One of the best accommodations I have lived for a long time so far. I bet you’ll enjoy your staying here. If you like to walk or run in the morning the Salary Brook trail is your place which is one minute walk from this accommodation. Tesco is 10~12 minutes walk, the university is 15~20 minutes walk. There is a bus stop just in front of the Hub. From my window, I could enjoy the view of the nature as well as birds who used to wake me up in the morning. The hospitality team is extremely helpful. I specially thank Chantelle for her supports and amazing instant responses.

I've been staying at this place for more than 8 months now and all I can say is that it feels like I'm home at times when I needed any kind of help the office people were always ready to help. Beyond The Box is the best accommodation for students as the university is nearby and if you like to walk so can go walking as well.
I've been enjoying my stay here and the people here are really helpful so it's been a delight.

This will be the best choice you ever make for your child. The staff really go above and beyond to make the students stay memorable.
Staff is wonderfull, caring, helpfull in every way.
Housing is close to Essex University, transport and shops.
Everything your student will need is there.
I am glad we chose Beyond the Box for our daughter from South Africa. (stayed 3 years 6 months).
You can have peace of mind if you are a International Student. International students THIS is the place to stay.

Lovely accomodation for students. They've been supportive and friendly throughout the year when I did my undergrad at Essex Uni. Felt like a family.
Love them so much 💖

Thoroughly enjoyed my time here!!! The admin team was so helpful and efficient! The rooms are a good size and there’s plenty of storage space. The common room has a movies, books and games as well as a pool table! two Some new buildings and rooms so have been added so it looks even better than before!

I got pretty lucky to get a vacancy in what is normally a fully occupied student accommodation. Rightfully so. The rooms are well designed for optimum space utilization and are usually well lit. There are several common facilities available to the residents including gym, play area, meeting rooms and quiet study areas overlooked by an efficient management to deliver the quality promised.
The location is perfect with walkable proximity to the university, including bus services from the university for late night situations and a bus stop almost by the doorstep that connects to most of the important parts of the town.
The high-point for me was the lovely people (Chantelle, Brenda, Josie, Jason, Julie, Joe) in the hospitality department. They are friendly, approachable and dependable - top traits for a student who just moved across the ocean. Super grateful.
Highly recommended!

I have lived her for two years and have rebooked for my final year at university. I have absolutely loved my time here, rooms are spacious and the facilities are very well managed by the staff. The staff are very helpful and respond quickly, the maintenance man is very nice and can sort out most issues very promptly. There are student wardens on site after staff leave who is very helpful and can be contacted after the main reception staff leave. Overall I would recommend this to many students as you are close to the university and Tesco's and you can met a lot of other students and it is very cosy effective. 10/10

Great place for both undergraduate and postgraduate students! The accommodation has everything you need and you can book it individually or with friends. Felt very safe for living in Greenstead.
I personally booked individually as I did not know anyone, but ended up making some of the best friends here! They also have a really cool hub which is great for both studying (chill areas and quiet rooms) and hanging out, which was a lifesaver during the pandemic.
The only downside is that it can be quite pricey for the average student, which is why I eventually had to move out. There were also some moisture issues due to the safety locks on the windows, which mean the windows can barely be cracked open.
All in all, I highly recommend!

As visitors I was very impressed with the new site. Both the Student Hub and the accommodation blocks have been well designed and are pleasing to look at. The facilities are comprehensive and are designed to meet the needs of all students. The location is convenient for access to the university and the town.
Having experienced student accommodation many years ago I would have loved to have had the chance to stay in a place like this!

Beyond the Box Student accommodation is a terrific place to live at. It offers great proximity to the University and to services like Tescos, petrol station and bus services to town. It also faces the Salary Brook nature reserve which can offer great walks and open space. The studio rooms are exactly what one person needs, the shared kitchen also offers ample room to cook or even have some friends over. The one downside to the whole accommodation would be the small laundry rooms... I would recommend having bigger or more laundry rooms. The staff who work there are very nice and very helpful. They even helped me move my belongings on a last minute emergency to help me out! Overall a great experience.

Really spacious rooms with lovely full height windows and brightly decorated to make it feel even more so. Having your own bathroom and kitchen is an absolute blessing but also having the option to use the communal kitchen gives the best of both! The brilliantly sized desks included in the accommodation and the communal study spaces at the hub also gives the option for solitary or group study. Perfect!

Thank you so much for your time showing me round this morning, I was really impressed by the hub and all the free facilities and study spaces. The studio apartment I viewed was great will be perfect for me and all my gaming PC :)

Very small units, some very outdated. Good location, expensive as these places often are but with potential
I'm not personally there. I dropped someone off their very recently. I mentioned potential as it was clearly unfinished. Her furniture looked very tired though, no real drawer space.
Reminded me of a slight upgrade on a homeless hostel I used back in the 1980s.
Like I said though, has potential

Our daughter has been there while studying for her 1st degree and her master degree. Nice place.

Secured and clean, rooms are a little bit small, otherwise can be excellent

'HOME' is the word that comes to mind with BTB Avon Way,
New to the area I was worried to where to go and what to do but all them thoughts disappeared once I met the amazing team on hospitality. So if you are new to the area or even new to the country then BTB Avon Way will, in time, be your 'HOME FROM HOME'

A fantastic student accommodation. Such a great location and is perfect for any student. Really recommend!

The rooms are so nice with your own kitchen and en-suite, some with countryside views! There’s also a kitchen/meeting room on every floor where you can meet up. The ‘Hub’ is so good for quiet study, love it!!

Very modern and spacious rooms. The communal area " The Hub" is a great space that has quiet study areas and a studio for group activities or movie nights. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Highly recommend!

I lived at Avon Way for two years and that was the best decision I made during my time at university. The accommodation is a 10-15 min walk to the university, there are shops across the road if you are feeling peckish or ran out of milk and there's a bus stop located close that can take you directly to the university or the town centre. Living there was great, I had no problems with the rooms or my flatmates. The common room is a great social community for students where you can make new friends, play games or watch footy on TV. All staff are welcoming and there to help, they make your stay pleasurable as they go the extra mile; there wasn't a time where they didn't make me smile on a bad day. All maintenance problems were dealt with efficiency. There's a place for bikes and cars to park and is monitored 24/7. The price and value of this accommodation is outstanding! especially compared to the prices to live on campus and in other student accommodations; the rooms are roomy, and the bathrooms and kitchens have enough space for individual use what else could you ask for?

Like any accommodation it's not perfect. It's got its pros and cons and might be more suitable for certain individuals rather than others. I rented a 2 bedroom apartment with a friend.
Pros:
- Location. It's relatively close to the University. In fact, this accommodation would be really suitable for those who own bikes as it's easier to get to the university that way than walking. Walking to the University takes around 25 minutes depending on your pace.
- Decent storage space. I'm pretty sure every room has at least one set of drawers and a wardrobe which is not the best, but decent. It also has a set of shelves above the desk similar to The South Towers rooms at the University and the desk has a drawer as well. It's also got a bit of room if you're thinking of bringing along your own furniture. There's also plenty of storage space in the kitchen. I've never fully used mine. Only the fridge and freezer sometimes get full because the fridge is a mini fridge and so is the freezer in terms of size.
- Decently sized rooms. The bedroom has got good space for one person. The living room is almost the size of 2 bedrooms in my flat. It's a shame they couldn't have made better use of that space and extended the bedrooms instead. The kitchen is perfectly sized if 2 people need to cook at the same time.
- Nice staff. The staff have always been friendly and helpful with the students. Every request I had was dealt with relatively quickly. Plus it's nice that they are able to accept parcels on the residents' behalf in case you are away during a parcel delivery.
- Good heating. The heating is amazing. Compared to other accommodation I've stayed at outside of University, this one is really good. I've never felt cold inside my flat or felt the need to put layers upon layers of clothing to keep warm.
- Good Internet speed. You can also buy an upgrade if you need to.
- Double bed.
Cons:
- Bus. Now that the 75B is no longer working, there are no direct bus routes to University anymore. This means you would have to take the 64 bus to Tesco and switch there, walk to Tesco and take the bus there or just walk to University. Sometimes the bus is faster than walking if you're lucky, sometimes it takes about the same time if you were to walk which is around 25 minutes.
- No proper ventilation. My flat has a hallway from which you can access every room, but it has no windows and no ventilator. This means that every time I enter the flat, I am met with stale air. You can't even open the window in an adjacent room and leave the door open because all doors are fire doors and fire doors are not be left open. Even the windows have some security on them similar to the University accommodation, since they can only be opened a tiny amount. So during hot weather, the flat can get close to boiling.
- Some furniture varies across flats. After I moved in, I found out that some flats have TVs, mine didn't. Considering this flat is one of the most expensive ones on the site, that was surprising. There is a reason behind it, but it doesn't take away from the fact that some flats have TVs and some don't. For people who enjoy watching TV or have consoles, bear this in mind and ask the staff before accepting your contract. Some fixtures like lighting or fridges can also vary from flat to flat.
- The living room. The living room is quite big as I mentioned before and it's got quite sparse furniture. It's mostly empty and it's got plenty of unused space. This might be good for some people though if they workout at home frequently. Otherwise, it's a waste of space.
- The fridge. It depends on the person here, but I like to buy quite a few ingredients to store in the fridge. But I only have one mini fridge shelf, half of the vegetable mini-drawer and half of the fridge door. Most of the time I have to stack things on top of each other and still use my flatmate's shelf from time to time. As for the freezer, I have 2 shelves there which is enough.
This was from the perspective of a 2 bedroom flat, it might not apply to all flats.

I moved here in September 2017, the place was really cosy and furnished! I also have disability and they made it so much easier by adjusting it for me. They also treats you like as if you were an actual tenants which is a massive experiences for us to help us learn and grow our individual life experience for when we are adult. They are always on hands to help with anything! don't worry if the management team has gone home after their office hours, the student warden are always on hands to help. (if you are new to this accommodation, they can be identified by having a RSW Key and phone) you can trust them, as they have been trained by the team. the atmosphere feels so safe with all of the security and I feel that I can approach to the teams anytime with my issues. in summary, it is one of the best choice I made as I wasn't so sure of budget as you know.. students spend too much! but again, best choice!

Accommodation is well kept, well setup and overall a good place to live whilst studying a degree. The hospitality team are great! Always talkative and happy to go that extra mile for us students. Would live here again if required!

Staff here are very friendly and always help with any problems, rooms (at least my one) was in reasonable quality when I moved in - all problems were fixed quickly.
Site is getting new areas built and rooms are planned for refurb ready for 2019 start of academic year.

Rooms are top notch, much better than others we looked at which were further from the Uni!!. All round great accommodation & facilities, would def recommend to check it out :-)

Absolutely stunning student accommodation. Finished to a very high spec. I can't imagine any student that wouldn't be happy living here. It exceeded all expectations.
E.
Standard student accommodation really with pretty good communal areas. Prices are pretty good and it's not too far from university either so great for students who go to Essex. Also a pretty good place to go for house parties if you know who to talk to

I lived there for 3 years and I loved my stay there. I wasn't too keen initially on the accommodation but the staffs there, made it feel like home. I was always able turn to whoever was there and they were pleased to help out.

Honestly, the best hospitality and I’ve never had a problem with them. When you meet the staff they are always helpful, friendly and go the extra mile, especially during the unprecedented time. Looking forward to stay at beyond the box next year.

Just checked in for my first year at Avon Way after spending a year in the towers, the Beyond the Box staff have been great and really made me welcome and the process simple, let's hope the rest of the year goes as smoothly

Had a tour of one of their places. As a Dad with children at Uni it’s a shame there isn’t more places like it.

The new studio apartments are without doubt the best of all the accomodation I have viewed in Colchester and the hospitality staff really make you feel at home and part of one big family
