Doing 5 Star so this can be seen by all, This College/University have absolutely terrible communication, and they refuse to help you throughout the course clearly picking by out favourites in the class. They have zero care for helping those with mental health issues and it’s instead like to say ‘that’s life get over it’ when you gain courage to actually speak up about it. They then unjustly fail you after they refuse to help in anyway shape or form even higher up side with their colleagues instead of listening to the student. Their student councillors do the one session and even if you book another session they don’t make one and you hear nothing back from them.
If you are looking to go here I’d 100% not recommend I’d suggest looking into other other places such as Newcastle where the teachers actually care and know what they are doing.

Disappointing!
I was expecting a college salon with trainees to be quite professional but unfortunately, on this occasion, that wasn't the case.
The salon isn't cleaned properly; there was lots of hair on the floor, at various stations, & this when they'd just started for the day. There was a big hair clip on the floor, tucked in to the wall.
The trainee that did my roots gave me the impression she was brand new; no chat, extremely gentle. Turns out she was level 2 but she didn't use enough dye to cover the grey.
She told me she'd check the dye in 15 minutes but that didn't happen. 45 minutes later a different student washed and dried my hair.
Water was not warm but the student had lots of personality.
No supervisor to check the dye job (colour match was good but there's lots of grey showing through), no supervisor to check the blow dry; no supervisor to ask about my experience /take feedback. No-one asked about the patch test before beginning either.
I was left to my own devices after the grown was removed & I stood waiting to pay for a few minutes.
I wasn't impressed but wonder if it's different with different staff/tutors... Not sure I'll return to find out.

Visited with my son as he's starting in September. It's a huge place and was spotless. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Looks like a great place to further your education.

I'm looking at doing a makeup artistry course in Sep 2021, do you have to do hair as well, i'm not really interested in that area and i don't feel great about having to pay for hairdressing equipment and i wont use the hairdressing training it just seems like a waste...

Studied at New College Durham from 2012 and it was a fantastic place the put all the support I need in place and we're very accommodating I would recommend this College to everyone of all ability as a deaf and wheelchair bound person I was always treated as an equal I attained my degree and I very happy I did

Pretty Good College.
I’ve studied Level 3 ICT for approximately a year at this point, and the atmosphere is a lot more released than school. However, the staff aren’t particularly good at supporting students outside of lessons, especially holidays, as responses to emails can take up to a week, and with assignment deadlines only being a couple of weeks usually it does make you quite short on time. Also, if you need any additional support such as PLC’s or LSA’s, there can be difficulties. For example, when I started my course they took almost a month to start providing my PLC & LSA.
I previously studied a Level 1 Catering Course via my Secondary School for 2 Years and the staff during that course weren’t particularly useful. Even after telling them I needed additional support, it was still a pretty difficult lesson. Although, certain aspects aren’t directly though the fault of the college, and my school could have helped more.
Facilities at the college are pretty good, although they are rather pricey, for example they have a gym, Costa coffee, Starbucks, POD (Snack) Store, and a student-ran restaurant. There’s also a beauty salon and car repair shop (limited due to being in a college setting).
Equipment for ICT Students is pretty good for example Photoshop, Microsoft office, Viso, GameMaker, Unity and a number of other industry standard softwares are provided by the college to students. Furthermore, all students have full access to Microsoft Office, and they can download it on their personal computers.
Due to the college having a university building directly affiliated with it, you can do higher education after further education and you get access to a lot of in and out of college discounts.
For example in the college, they provide free bus travel during college days and subsidies for Over 19 / University Courses, and free ‘school’ meals for those that are entitled.
Outside of the college, you can access many offers and discounts including free amazon prime for 6 months, and half price renewal, half-price SquareSpace subscription, £50 Digital Ocean Server Credit, and a number of other discounts.
The college is also a partner of the NUS & ISIC Student Discount Scheme, where for a small yearly fee of approximately £10 you can receive discounts at a number of major retailers, and you can also access student discounts which aren’t linked to the scheme, as it proves your a student. After applying for the NUS Scheme, you receive a card the size of a credit card through the post or delivered to the college within a few days, which contains your NUS Card Details in the front and your ISIC Card Details on the back. The NUS Card is for discounts in UK Retail stores, where as the ISIC Discount Card provides you free access to 2,000 additional discounts outside of the UK.
I’d give the college the following ratings I each respective category:
5/5 Course Choices
4.5/5 Teaching Standard
3.5/5 Learner Support Access
4.5/5 General Facilities
5/5 ICT Facilities
5/5 Discount Scheme
Overall Rating:
4.7/5
Converted to Google Rating:
4.5/5

Staff are great, you can go to a few different places inside for food and get a haircut or holidays in the college's real working environments.
