Reviews of Student Roost - Portsburgh Court
I enjoyed my stay here. It brought back memories of my student days. The sheets were clean and WiFi was available for one day. The communal fridge on each floor is great for storing food. Staff were very friendly and helpful and allowed me to keep some of my luggage with them for a few hours. The building is very close to central Edinburgh, the university and Edinburgh Castle. All rooms come with a desk which was very useful for me. Ironing facilities are also available.
Set in the heart of Edinburgh with views of the nearby castle. The self contained apartment I stayed in had everything I needed including a comfy bed. I stayed for a couple of nights and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. It's not fancy, but it's safe and well located.
Lived here for my first year of university and could not have hoped for a better place to live and adjust to university living. John at reception was lovely and would sit and chat over cups of tea which was awesome and completely different to what I have experienced in places away from home before.
John, Georgia and Emma are the absolute bomb and definitely make this place! They are full of chat, support and recommendations to students meaning this place is more than just a comfortable place to stay!
I spent my first year in Edinburgh here, and first year overseas at large. Couldn't dream or ask for more pleasant staff. Notably John at front desk, I couldn't dream up a greater person to ask on where to go in ever city I wanted to visit in Scotland; Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, Inverness, the guy had an answer. Siri has nothing on him.
Great staff and decent rooms.
in a good location central to town and university's
All you need for 1 or 2 nights stay in edinburgh. Very near sainsbury local. Room is a bit small but very clean. Staff are friendly
Stayed here with a group of friends during the Fringe, clean and fully functional, nice to have our own kitchen to hang out in and a great location.
Plain, simple and clean. Nice staff. Central located with all kinds of facilities nearby. Great value for money.
Very friendly staff and comfy accommodation! Excellent location very close to George Square and market.
Clean, good location and you even get a small shower set gift for free. Worth the money!
Nice staff, fairly clean, fairly quiet - pretty average experience if you've stayed in this kind of place before, which is quite different to a hotel. This place overall felt like the cheaper end of student halls - just badly put together in many ways, like not having bedside tables, no shelf space in the bathroom, and cheap mattress and pillows. Nothing dreadful, but lots of minor irritations.
Nice and clean uni accommodation. A short walk away from the city centre and Main attractions.
Best. Student. Accommodation. Ever. (Trump Voice and hand gestures) - especially Georgia.
Perfect position. Near to Grassmarket and a loro of pubs. Rooms quite essential.
Great staff there johnathon and the team are brilliant
Good affordable accommodation.
Great place , staff are friendly and helpful
Good place.
Nice place
We booked in August at a good price for the time and location (3 minutes from grassmaeket). Good attention from the staff. The rooms are small. It is a student residence and you can tell that the room was for one person... We booked a double room with a double bed and the bed was one and a half large. I don't know if you can leave your suitcases there, but on the way back there is a hotel that can be left for a fee with the Stasher app.
Fantastic experience!
It is a university college that makes rooms available when free for students: you can use the kitchen where you can meet new people and prepare an excellent meal. There is a self-service laundry service, 24/7 reception. Right in the centre, 5 minutes from Edinburgh Castle. The staff was super friendly and helpful, especially John. The bed is slightly small but the accommodation corresponds perfectly to what it should for a university college: don't expect a hotel but for a few days of vacation it is perfect!
We spent a few days in Scotland and stayed here for visiting Edinburgh. The staff was really friendly and helpful, especially John. The accommodation is a student roost, they rent private rooms in a common flat when they are free from students: you can share an equipped kitchen. You can also find a self-service laundry and an iron. Free luggage storage also available; reception open 24/7. It is just 5 minutes walk from Edinburgh Castle and the city centre. Don't expect to find a hotel, but for a few days it's perfect!
I lived in here last year and it is generally good. The staff in the reception is nice and always willing to help.
Fair in general, in terms of location and structure. Rooms a little small compared to the standards and the cost involved. The full-wall window helps make everything seem larger, despite the possibility of only partial opening (obviously). Normal and functional common rooms. Very kind and friendly staff. One year of life.
Staffs are good. However, it was a room for two people and it was the first time in my life that there was no electric kettle, especially in the UK. Of course, there are no hair dryers, etc. The location was good, but the pillows and bed were the worst. I asked the reception for more pillows. There is an electric kettle in the shared kitchen. Visitors are there for a few days, but a star goes out to the Edinburgh uni students who have to live in the room for months.
Really friendly staff. They are charming.
To make a difference, we were in front of the door to our room section and we could hear banging almost continuously.
But for the price and being a student residence we couldn't ask for more. Delighted.
Excellent location 3 minutes from Grassmarket and Victoria Street. The staff is very pleasant and cooperative. Rooms with own bathroom. Well-equipped common kitchen. Good price
Very clean and dynamic and helpful team. In the city center, 2 steps from grassmarket
Good service early departure at 10:00
University accommodation. Basic but a stone's throw from the center.
Highly recommended, neat and very central
Central
Comfortable, modern and pleasant.
Well placed and clean student style accommodation. Every 4 rooms have a shared equipped kitchen area. Highly recommended budget stay during the fringe. Smallish double bed and own bathroom and shower. Well organized tagged left luggage service.
Perfect for the price
Did exactly what it said on the tin. Simple accommodation but clean. Rooms are student fayre so minimalist but large study desks and comfortable double beds. Shared kitchens well appointed and spacious. Laundry on site and common room. Don't expect TV. Learn to talk to each other again!
This is good accomodation for 1 night stop over or a few days. The staff are very friendly & very helpful. The only thing not so good was our mattress, it was a very lumpy one & not comfortable at all. Apart from that, facilities were good, staff were lovely & meeting people of all different nationalities was great.
The bathroom was tiny and so was the room. The window was very small but luckily we were high up and got a lot of sunshine. The kitchen was very sparingly furnished but enough for breakfast. Doors closing could be heard which could get annoying very fast. The common room was nice and spacious.
Student accomodation, comfy beds, basic. After living here for nearly 2 semesters it is an alright place to live. The lighting in the rooms and some of the kitchens is pretty bad and the window in my bedroom is very small. The staff are friendly, but in terms of social setting it doesn't feel very much like student housing. The laundry is super expensive which really adds up when you are living here for a whole year. Overall it is pretty expensive for the quality/ size of the rooms, but the common room is a nice space, and the 3/4 size beds are comfortable. The location is good for being close to the university and old townow as well as bars and clubs on cowgate.
Stayed here during the festival. We were on 7th floor in a good sized room with a double bed, washing machine, microwave etc. Also had a view of the castle. Very convenient location and facilities. There were some minor wear and tear problems (battered blinds, draws that came out together etc), but for student digs it was fantastic.
I stayed in Portsburgh Court during my first year and had such a great time there. The staff absolutely made the experience for me. They are always so enthusiastic and friendly. In particular John, Georgia, Emma and Daniel were always really kind and happy to help out. Thank you so much guys!
