Lovely walk with nice views. I have dodgy knee's and this walk was still very comfortable. Will be visiting again.
K. l.
Such a nice walk! The views are simply beautiful. There's different walks as well to make it longer. You can venture up to Dovestone Edge and around to The Trinnacles. The car park here accepts cash and card. There was a little horse box food van when I went that looked like it sold lovely food
J. W.
Great walk, a path all of the way around if you park at the lower car park. There are toilets here, but it does cost to park.
If you don't mind walking down a hill a car park in the forest up the side is free, postcode - OL3 7NN.
Nice walks all the way around which isn't too long.
You can take many paths off the main track to go up the mountains if desired. Most of these are mountain side, except one which is an actual winding pathway up to the top to another reservoir.
Dogs are welcome here and most people walk with them off lead, providing cattle isn't grazing at that time of year.

Beautiful reservoir. Easy walking and lots of accessible paths. Great for dog walking. Lovely views. Car park reasonably priced, lots of spaces but advisable to get there early, very popular and fills up quickly. Take water with you as the refreshments van is not always there. Enjoy.
R. C.
Good walk, nice and easy around the reservoir, there's not much parking, but the views are amazing and well worth a visit

I can't believe how lucky I am to have this on my door step. This is literally one of my favourite places EVER. if you're not from Manchester you should STILL Visit this place. Perfect for getting a easy10k step in, perfect for a family picnic. Or just to have a nice breeze for some mental clarity. Honestly this place is STUNNNNING...
THERE are so many different routes you can take, over the bridge, around the water, SOOOOO MANY, the atmosphere is euphoric and everyone is so welcoming & greet as you walk by. Really nice PLACE, stunning scenery and watching the sunset is to die for, especially near the famous Indian hill mountain..& perfect for summer barbecues. The only thing i would advise summer time it gets busy!!!
IF THE SUN IS OUT PLEASE DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT COME FOR A WALK WITH your favourite Channel perfume you'll be attracting 100s of flies as usually thats standard during the summer. They domt bother me but if you have kids some hats that provide shade will do & maybe some cream for the itching. But most of the time my toddlers have been absolutely fine, also if you're a runner then running around the lake is just heaven.
K. Y.
Absolutely beautiful place, got lucky with the weather when we went to, will definitely be back again ❤😍
E. D.
Beautiful place to go for a run/walk. So many different routes. Car park is £4 for all day though I didn't notice the other options for 2 hours etc.
It does get busy and it's not a massive parking area!
G. S.
Rarely do we get a space in the car park here but thankfully, midweek, arrived early (ish), straight in. A walk up the track to Chew reservoir at the top of the valley was a great experience as the mist began to lift; hot soup, cake and a cuppa in hand. Magical and extremely peaceful. If you can get to the top, be ready to breath in a very normal world - far more normal than anything further down the track!
T. O. G.
Nice walk around the reservoir, choice of two car parks at Binn Green starting at a higher level or the ‘main’ Dovestone car park which is at water level. Binn Green has toilet facilities but these are currently locked for the foreseeable. Both car parks were very busy on a New Year bank holiday, people parking absolutely wherever they could at Binn Green, even on the approach road. We walked around the reservoir on the easy access path, which was relatively easy though there were one or two large muddy puddles that a wheelchair might have issues with especially in the colder months.

I have spent many many adventures here ! It’s amazing all year round with amazing views ! Parking now at last you can pay with card £1.00 for two hours ! The colours you see , the wild life truly fantastic! Go your self & enjoy ! There are toilets there as well and picnic areas but no barbecues are allowed which is good ! There are maps and signs for you to read ! I have spent time on the famous Indian head as I love it !
r. d.
Lovely place with lots of walking areas . Parking machines for both coins and cards.didnt accept my phone contactless. Ice cream has options . Signage should say how long it takes as people can then plan to either go all around or just a small stretch as parking is pre paid and difficult to judge how much to pay .
L. T.
A lovely place to walk. Get there early to avoid crowds & get a space to park!
S. A.
Lovely walk and views, not too strenuous, lovely day ♡
W. D.
Always a great day out at Dovestone reservoir, especially if you walk all the way to the top to the waterfall section, and then back down around the path that takes you past the famous Trinacle.
F. T.
Absolutely loved it here, one of the best reservoirs
S. P.
A perfect place to visit for one day. Beautiful view.
H. M.
Beautiful walks and a great trail as part of a hike
J. B.
It's a beautiful place with lots of little pockets of amazing hidden spots. Helps you re-energize and connect with the earth.
Been here in all kinds of weathers and have loved it regardless.
I would love to go to stay at some of the lodges they have there. Just absolutely spectacular views and scenery.
Cant wait to go back again!
T. K.
I been here many time it's a great place for walk and bike ride, nice place to picnic or spend the day with family , very beautiful view. Got Toilet at car park
J. W.
Lovely views peaceful walk with plenty of stopping points :)
P. I. P.
Beautiful reservoir I have ever seen, good place to walk and trek, this reservoir has memorial forest. It is located in the pennine hills.
a. g.
Beautiful place! Honestly so peaceful and quiet. The water looks so pure and there is lots of green fields you can sit and rest, or just by the water. Ideal for family walks, on your own or a couple friends. And it was good that the toilets were near the car park just before you start your walkiee :)
N.
Beautiful place for walking everyone is so polite and cheerful when walking round
S. V.
Lovely place, if you looking for a place to make a long walk, running or a picnic you must go for it.
You can find some benches and is a few car parks there as well.
D. Z.
Lovely walk, stunning views
B. P.
Find this place using the komoot app, picked one of the many trails in there. To won't be disappointed, great views with lights of trail options from hikes to steady gravel paths. £4 to park all day and there's a nice food vendor there with hot and cold options.
There's also picnic areas of you want to take the whole family. It's a good day out especially when the weather's great.
N. B.
One great place in the neighbourhood. Great landscape. Very scenic and picturesque. Sky appears to be dark blue due to light deflection from water reservoir and hills around it.
Nice approximately 3 miles walk around the lake. One can take several other trails up the hills and/or trekk in several other places.
Cool and breezy due to landscape, hills and large water body. If you don't like very hot sunny day, this place could a good choice as mix of hot sun and cool breeze makes it perfect.
Plenty of metered paid parking. However, these fill up pretty fast. Visitors also park on main road in busy days. Unfortunately, carelessly parked cars can get parking violation tickets. FREE parking for BLUE BADGES.
Public toilets are available. There's also a sort of boathouse. Swimming is not allowed. There're plenty of places for picnic.
D.
If only they could sort out their parking. . . It’s cheap enough, around £1 for 2 hours, £2 all day, but there just aren’t enough parking spaces, lines faded, and it gets extremely congested. The actual walk round the reservoir is a lovely walk and is well kept, clean and tidy. Mens toilet is dirty and smelly.
S. H.
Great walking trails. But the turn from main road to the car park is very tight.
b. h.
Love it here, great for a summer walk and loads of different walks you can go on.. stunning views.. we will be back
s. y.
Visited yesterday , very beautiful weather, extremely busy parking but found it at last . Good place for hiking and bbq is not allowed .
m. t.
Beautiful treks, you could take any route. But it was too crowded, hard to get parking.
R. N.
Lovely place to walk with the family. Good quality footpath all around the lake so ideal for those with young children and prams. If you feel more energetic, you can do a lap of the Yeomen Hey reservoir too which adds on about a mile and a half but the path on far side is not suitable for pushchairs.
Great views with minimum effort, £2 to park for upto four hours makes this a good day out.
D. M.
Wow...
Heavenly purified.
They are highly involved in the nature of the fountains and lack and hills.
Simply purified your mind.
The water and duck are super friendly.
And the boat club.
Just like feelings growing.
Must be able to walk 👣 along further.
Z. A.
Beautiful scenery. Nice to explore with the family on a sunny day. Also a great workout climbing up the mountains. Stunning views when you reach the top. Parking is only £1 for 3 hours. Toilet facilities available.
N. K.
An amazing place to visit with family or couples, the scenery is absolutely phenomenal, it has beautiful mountains to see, amazing site for some family pictures, alot of parking, family picnic, children will enjoy the sea-side, a lovely open space nature, I would recommend it
H. A.
Really good place to visit, especially when it's good weather, there is a trail that toy can walk around the reservoir.
The hills or mountains can be climbed, you just need a bit of energy and it will get a bit steep but when you get to the top, its worth it, you get an amazing view. The photos don't do justice
T. J.
This place is lovely, such an amazing place! A great place to take walks or even cycle around. Me and my wife go there quite regularly to take hikes and pictures of the beautiful scenery.
L. B.
Amazing place, full of wonderful vista's and a place of mystery. Get off the beaten track and there are some awesome sights to see...
Get there early, as parking however reasonably priced, is limited.
N. D.
Very beautiful hike.
Very good to visit in summer.
Very cold at the top of the mountain 🏔️
Reservoir is huge and you can enjoy boating in summers only.
O. D.
Amazing views and lots of lovely natural features. Many different paths that you can take and there are picnic benches dotted around too. We came from Huddersfield and it wasn't much of a drive at all. Would highly recommend to anyone close by.
S.
Great place to park your car and start a hike. Ensure you pay for parking because you will get a ticket if you don't. £4 cash for the day 17/10/22. Don't be tempted to park on the road if the car park is full because you will get a parking fine.
S. P.
Gorgeous place, but get there early to find a parking space!
H. S.
Paid £4 for parking all day. Amazing scenery, tesco not to far..appropriate footwear needed as its the pennines. It was off peak so wasn't to busy, get there early...open all day.
M. E.
A good walk around the reservoir with stunning views from the four hills that surround the lake. Car park and toilet facilities at the entrance. Ideal for a walk with family or friends.
B. D.
Lovely place for a walk, good circular route around the reservoir, some part are tramac, other are gravelled, ok for a pram on a hot dry day. Paid parking avaliable, 60p for 3 hours £1.20 for the whole day. But the meter only take coins. There are other routes for those more adventurous.
A. L.
A really superb place to go for the day. It can get busy at the weekend and during sunny periods. There's plenty of parking, but can fill up quickly — make sure you've got change. Before going, make sure you also check the weather and go prepared — very little shelter if the weather suddenly turns. No cafe here, but there's toilets (Aug 2020 currently closed due to Covid-19). There's another reservoir you can visit — you can carry on around Dovestones, but can also go higher if you're feeling adventurous. If you've really adventurous — you can head up to Wimberry Crag, which gives great views over Dovestones —go prepared and make sure you've got suitable footwear.
J. B.
Fantastic views, with a good path around the main reservoir, and trails leading up into the moors. Car park is very small, doesn't cost much, but if it's a nice day you're not getting a spot.
k. l.
Nice walk with great views, gets steep in places but there is a more steady incline up the tarmac road
P. F.
Dovestone reservoir had a lovely day there today weather great views amazin plenty of paths to take but if you fancy a nice stroll stay on the path alongside the reservoir, great walk for the family and the dogs highly recommend ,parkings very cheap but limited so get there early, toilet facilties available
G. C.
Absolutely stunning walk for a sunny day. Really worth a visit, there is a car park but it can get full really quickly and is chargeable so make sure you take some coins. There are on-site toilet facilities too. Walking around the reservoir will take approximately 1 to 1.5 hours. Worth a visit
M. O.
My favourite place to go for a walk in any type of weather. The parking is pretty cheap. Has a sailing club on the reservoir which always looks like a fun place to visit in the summer. Plenty of different routes to walk
S. R.
Brilliant walking area. Parking can become difficult at busy times. Toilets. Park in Greenfield and walk to the Reservoir. Occasional van will be there with tea and snacks.
J. W.
Absolutely stunning place to walk! Make sure you take the route up the river which makes for even more fun. The views from the top are simply spectacular. Couldn't recommend more!
R. A.
Reservoir is lovely to walk around, especially in the snow. The car park on busy days is chronically short on spaces. We were lucky but some had to drive round in circles waiting for a space to become free
L. S.
This has been one of the best walks I’ve done in the snow absolutely lovely but you definitely feel that breeze from the reservoir so please wrap up if you go for a walk around here. Overall this was stunning and I can’t wait to go back again. It’s one of the most stunning places to go and it’s just on your front door step!
L. G.
Beautiful place. Stunning scenery to blow any cobwebs away. Plenty of different levels of walks to suit all from budding explorers to families with a pram. You forget where you are with such views.
J. T.
Went here to walk the dogs with my daughter and her boyfriend. The paths are really good for prams/wheelchairs and groups. At the end of the walk you can enjoy an ice-cream from the van. There are toilets and parking (small charge for parking).
A. S.
Lovely walk not strenuous at all, very nice views, well recommended.
M. O. A.
A good place for a walk surrounded by lots of greenery and a lake. The walk is very easy which makes it family friendly.
L. F.
Great route around the reservoir, which you have the option for a longer and shorter walk, gorgeous views from the back of the reservoir on the longer route, lovely rugged scenery 👍it's pay to park but only £1.30 for the whole day. Other routes all around the reservoir to explore, brilliant day out!
S. A.
Great place for walking around the reservoir. It takes around 1.5 hour to do so. I was a bit annoyed when I found out that they close toilets at 4:30!
O. f. D.
What a beautiful place Monty and I have been for a little day of a walk on Saddleworth. So much more to explore so deafly need to come back. Dress warmly and ready for the countryside nothing else here apart from site toilets within the car park so you’re on for a packed lunch or a pub dinner #dovestonereserveir #saddleworthmoor #reseveoir #zuchon #countrywalk
For more come ideas and see us at fb @ourfamilydays
C.
Fantastic place to go walking/hiking
Lots of different pathways with varying difficulties.
Around the resevoir itself is an easy walk and suitable for most people and age groups.
For those who fancy a bit more difficulty there are several steeper paths up to the surrounding cliffs and hill tops.
All in all a stunning place to visit.
Highly reccomend
V. T.
Stunningly beautiful. We walked all round the reservoir in an anti clockwise direction. It was a glorious day and a miracle we got a car parking space! Pure fluke as it was incredibly busy! As we visited during the Coronavirus period we were shocked by the amount of people who were oblivious to the wearing of masks in spite of an inability to SD at 2 metres whilst gaining a ticket to car park. Most were only strolling as far as the first bridge to picnic (in their hoards - several families clearly mixing against the rules!!). Luckily for us we left them behind as we circumnavigated the reservoir. Nonetheless, whilst some caution is suggested at the moment, this should not detract from the beauty of the surroundings which had pretty stunning views across the hills.
R. W.
Really lovely had a fantastic walk around reservoir about 4km. Ice cream to finish it off at the end. As long as weather is fine you can get around with a pram and toilets at car park. £1.30 for all day so cheap parking.
C. M.
Beautiful scenery, 3 reservoirs with a beautiful waterfall at the back of the third with a sketchy but extremely fun climb, decent size peaks for the area and a beautiful walk for the weekends or any other day!
K. M.
Beautiful! Absolutely stunning views, such a lovely place for a walk on a clear day. It's dog friendly, the kids were well entertained spotting waterfalls, climbing on rocks and exploring the woods. The toilets weren't a pleasant experience at all, but it hasn't put me off visiting again. Overall, an absolutely wonderful place and we'll certainly be going back again.
M. W.
Beautiful, would be 5 star but the car park to small so get there early as it's extremely busy.
J. O.
Absolutely beautiful walk, by far my favourite in the Manchester area. On a sunny day especially, the 360 degree views are breath taking. An easy circular route around the water with a good surface for wheelchairs. Parking is cheap at 60p for 3 hours and there are toilet facilities available. Lots of benches for a picnic and there's also more challenging walks in the surrounding hillsides to tackle if you feel up to it!
K. B.
Went on a lovely day. Lambs everywhere and a lovely route to walk. Will go again, if you're heading back through Lees be sure to stop by Coles cafe because there is nowhere to eat or drink around here.
E. D.
A beautiful spot, with lovely easy, picturesque walk around the reservoir. Nice picnic area near to celebration wood where we planted a tree in memory of our son, Edward
S. M.
Lovely place for a walk, pathways to follow along too. Nice little waterfalls, streams also good viewpoints ahead.
a. k.
A great place for a scenic walk. Go at your own pace and enjoy
Y. K.
Dovestone Reservoir beautiful place nice views and a great walk with the family.
A. H.
Stunning location with picturesque views, lovely long walks. Easy parking.
C. R.
The best place for hiking
S. G.
Dove Stone Reservoir and Indian’s Head is Oldham’s primary wilderness spot and has breathtaking views all year round. Fantastic if you like #biking #photography #walking #hiking #boating #nature #scenery and even #meditation. You will not be disappointed.
.
.
But don’t think about bringing your BBQ or you will get shot!!
L. H.
One of my favorite places to go for a walk and take pictures
M. K.
To think this is less than 30 minutes up the road, beautiful views!
J. Y.
Nice walk around the reservoir. Has small carpark, can get full at weekends (pay and display). Has disabled carpark free for blue badge holders.
N. U.
Nice walk and some great scenery to admire. Good parking facilities. Only minor problem is the litter 😒
J.
One of my favourite places. Been going since I was a kid. It's worthwhile to walk further on to the top reservoirs. A little quieter.
Parking is £1 for 2 hours or £2 for four hours or £4 for all day. Take some change as it doesn't take card payment!
N. S.
Great walks and good for kids and dogs. Can spend hours here with flat walking or head further up into the hills and follow the river to waterfalls.
A. R.
Beautiful place but too crowded. Wouldn't go on a weekend again.
S. M.
This is such a beautiful place and the main 2.6 mile round reservoir walk is on pram friendly paths. My little ones love it here!
J. F.
The walks can vary from flat and easy to a c400m climb to top, which is hard going but well worth the view!
A. M.
Clean path around a 2.6 miles walk suit ale for dogs, kids, pushchairs and wheel chairs users.
P. S.
Someone been so disrespectful to others and environments:: used this beautiful place and left their mess as they’ve expected a table service;😬
H. K.
Great walk around, facilities for toilet, ice cream van, snacks van too. I don't think parts are suitable for wheelchair users, but there is plenty that is accessible- see how you go. Warning: parking can get full, go early on a sunny day, the car park has narrow approach the queues can wrap back causing congestion. Aldo watch where you park on main road as traffic enforcement had ticketed plenty of cars.
C. ..
Amazing view loves this place
m.
Beautiful place for you to see.
J. G.
A lovely place, easy to get to by road or the train to Greenfield and a walk through the village. There’s a chance to stay locally, “glamping” on site or traditional camping/caravanning at nearby well i hole. Uppermill and Mossley are close by for restaurants, bars and pubs.
When you are at the reservoir there’s a fair few decent walks from easy ( flat footpath around the water) and more difficult (around the tops of the hills) then everything in between.
It’s very busy at weekends and school holidays and the recent low rainfall has exposed a lot of the bed of the reservoir. There is a lot of litter where the water’s receded so I ask you to please take your litter home and don’t use disposable barbecues. Be respectful of others and you are sure to have a great time.
Ps evening visits are usually just for adults 😜
K. P.
It's beautiful place to visit please don't smoke if you do make sure you put it off no BBQ there thank you
a. a.
Beautiful place with natural views. Parking available £0.60p for 3 hours n £1.60 for all day.
K. H.
Excellent walk and some good climbs my favourite walking place to clear the mind
R.
Beautiful place for a long or short walk. The views are divine, such a peaceful place.
K. N.
Stunning views Lovely place to vist and great for walk
C. H.
Beautiful place. Just a shame there's never enough parking.
S. H.
Lovely walk around the reservoir. Sometimes it can get very busy.
H. B.
Great place to come for a half day, beautiful scenery and good paths for an easy walk.
There's a few different routes which look as though you can extend or reduce the length of a walk. They're circular too, so no backtracking required to get back to the car.
M. W.
Beautiful peaceful place. I spent many happy childhood years running about here with rams trying to steal my icecream. It's just breathtakingly stunning. I love the quiet, the sheep and watching the boats sail about. It's fun to paddle at the rock pool and clamber about. Nice place to fly a kite and forget the world for a bit.
E. H.
Probably the best walk for doggies, about 2 hours long, lovely scenery and cheep parking.
D. B. C.
Really enjoyed our visit. Wasn’t hard to find a spot for family. Kids had great time. Would definitely recommend to families.
L. M.
Beautiful place to walk parking is hard to get so be prepared to wait but very worth it!
K. K.
Very nice, quiet and peaceful place and very near to Manchester.
A long walk is very beneficial around the reservoir.
w. L.
Great place to walk and relax and take in fantastic views
S. D.
An amazing place. I can’t believe we have such places like this. On a hot summers day this is perfect to spend time with family and friends. Not allowed food as it is a preserved area however it’s a stroll and just a casual catch up with amazing scenery. There are also trails for running and walking paths.
J. m.
Good path all the way around,a grand feeling of wide open space.
P. K.
Dovestone Reservoir has it all. It's a superb place for families to visit; with on site parking and toilet facilities, as well as being accessible to most via a well maintained footpath - perfect for buggies, bikes, and wheelchair users. If you're an experienced walker, there are still some excellent trails up and around the Reservoir that will reward you with excellent views over Saddleworth and beyond.
D. W.
Lovely early morning walk. Well worth the early start
T. T.
Beautiful surroundings. Lots of options for different routes x
J. M.
Walks for all kinds of walkers for beginners to experts, is natural surroundings.
l.
I love this place. I come at least once a week and in all weather. I have done night walks, day walks, hikes, climbs and runs. It's truly a wonderful place, and it always has a challenge if you want it, or a nice easy walk with beautiful views.
Normally when I'm there people who pass me always exchange pleasantries, which just makes a friendly atmosphere.
One slight issue is that coming at peak time can result in difficulty finding a parking spot. There are alternate car parks though, so it's possible to search around. Parking is dirt cheap, and after 8 (I think) It's free.
D. J.
Beautiful scenery. Great for hiking, dog walking or a family day out.
V. V. J.
An incredibly beautiful place - great for walks, runs and dog walks 😊

K. D.
Best place to visit when it's sunny. Great route round the reseviour that you can cycle or walk around in the sun or colder weather. Beautiful place.
M. T.
A beautiful place with great walking paths...
K.
Lovely walk, flat and easy circular (around 4 miles for smaller route, around 6+ for larger circle). Parking is £1 for 2 hours, £2 for 4 hours, toilets open from morning until around 4pm/5pm. Lots to see and do, you can even walk up the hills and get a nice view from up high. Plenty of picnic spots. The route to Dovestone from Huddersfield A-roads is quite scenic.
R. A.
Lovely place for a walk
P. J.
Loved it here. We did a loop starting in the main car park, along the West side of the reservoir and up to the headland North East of the reservoir, with views over the other two reservoirs there. A walk back south along the headland (East of Dove Stone) brought us to Chew reservoir, before walking down the valley beneath Saddleworth Moor (you could extend it by going over that moor too before dropping down). Took us 4 hours at a decent pace with a stop for lunch. £1.30 to park all day, basic toilets in the car park. Great views back towards Manchester city centre!
y.
Brilliant place to go for a nice stroll. Picnics are also allowed.
Ice cream man is always there. Very nice tasting after a long walk.
M. S.
Awesome Place
d. w.

There's so much on our door step,
S. H.
Stunning!!!! Lovely walk around the reservoir. Peaceful, tranquil and picturesque.
H. H.
Nearly empty. Lots of Canadian Geese.
J. A.
Dovestones reservoir is a great place for a leisurely stroll around the reservoirs or a place to start a more adventurous hike over the moorland.
The trail around the reservoir is a well made path and should be accessed by wheel chair without too much of a problem.
There is also a nature trail through the wooded area with informative signs to get the interest of children. They are educational and fun for the kids.
The car park is large but does tend to fill up quickly at the weekend so getting there early is a must. There is usually a catering trailer and an ice-cream van in warmer weather. There is also public toilets on site.
If you are interested in something more strenuous then a hike up to Indians head may be more appropriate. The Moors can be accessed by a few paths, straight up Indians head is a steep climb. The access road to the upper reservoir and the path up Ashway gap following the water channel up to a tunnel and then on to the top of the moor are more gradual climbs.
There is a path that follows the ridge of the moor all the way round passing Dove stone. The way you want to access and walk is completely up to you and how long you wish the walk to be. In-between Dove stone and Indians head is the access road to the upper reservoir and can be used to easily get up or down from the moor.
Walking around the ridge is a great walk with stunning views when the weather is clear. It also offers flexibility to the length of the hike.
The Pennine way is also accessable and can be incorporated into your hike.
I hope this has been of some help and I hope you enjoy your day at Dovestones reservoir
s. s.
A very beautiful place for nature lovers, and for hiking and climbing

D. N.
Beautiful views in all directions.
S. S.
Lovely place to visit
G. O.
Really great place!!
D.
This is why people come to Oldham. I think if the council import sand from Liverpool or Wales or anywhere else im England they can make a tourist destination. Get some pedal boats on the water also! We don't need a lidl at mumps! When it's busy here parking can be a problem need more spaces for coaches an all. Been coming here since teens amd those toilets still smell bad.
J. D. M.
Absolutely beautiful walk regardless of the weather. Ideal for all ages and abilities and fantastic for photography.
M. W.
A beautiful escape good for the soul...
B. S.
It's a beautiful escape, with many different avenue's to take for a walk. Check my photos for the beauty! During hit days and wekeendsy parking can become a problem. The reservoir is part of the Peak District National Park
N. A.
Beautiful walks. Wheelchair/pushchair accessible though a bit steep in places.

Lovely place to walk, plenty of benches and picnic benches. Pay and display car park £4 for over 4 hours. Have public toilets too. Did some litter picking whilst there and filled 6 carrier bags.

Amazing place ♥️♥️♥️♥️
A. E.
Nice gentle walk around the res, more difficult walks to be had....car parking in the area however is a different story
L. T.
Lovely place to walk and relax
NO FIRES NO BARBEQUES AND NO CAMPING
S. J.
Now one of my all-time favourite places. Such variety of features, landscape, texture and views. Short walk, long walk; take your pick and enjoy either. It's also amazing how the light changes the setting over the day. Good boots are recommended for the off track walks and the route up and down from the Trinnacle is well worth the effort.
H. A.
Beautiful. Great walk
N. D. o.
A nice walk to the top to chew resavuar
A. K.
Great place for a walk/hike, very scenic reservoir with many routes to explore, brilliant hills with views at the top that make the hard work very worthwhile.Take extra layers for the tops as can get windy, loads of parking £4 for the whole day, on site toilets.Well worth a visit. Not far from Oldham and Manchester.
D. L.
Absolutely brilliant enjoyed my walk with my wife to dogs good 2 hours of walking really enjoyed it well recommended

What a great walk round the reservoir.. The dog enjoyed it to... 👍
S. C.
Brilliant walk. Nice and clean area.
c. s.
Amazing walk relaxing with amazing scenery
A. D.
Great place for a walk. The lower Reservoir is great for those who can't climb and decent as it is mostly flat and takes around 45 mins to walk around at average pace but if you want the most stunning view then you have to go to the top Reservoir where the view is spectacular.
Parking can be difficult on a nice sunny day so get there early is my suggestion.
Facilities are minimal but there is usually an ice cream van there for a drink or snack.
s.
Crossed the bridge, went straight up to the top, steep with some scramble, great view from the top, then can either come down on the same path if you only have a couple of hours or so, or continue to the left or right, your choice, before taking the paths coming down to the reservoir.
V. B.
Sitting on the water's edge you feel all your worries melting away...
D. L.
Great place for a walk around
A. E.
Great place for a brisk walk . Car park can be a bit busy put it’s worth it . Needed a debit card for the car park ticket ,which was only £1 for two hours. Ice cream van on the car park and public toilets .Well worth a visit
R. W.
Parking was a but tricky but a lovely easy little walk
D. F.
Very nice walk, ample parking and toilets. Tea,coffee also available at reasonable price

Walked and climbed for miles, with our dog.
S. N.
Stunning views, a place you must visit
J. B.
Great place to walk and soak up the stunning views.
l. l.
A great place to see, probably the best in Peak District with regards to views. Plenty of walking routes available. Good for dog walkers, hiking enthusiasts, bike riders and families with small kids as there is a flat route around reservoir which is about 3 miles long. Beautiful views and challenging routes, a quintessence what a hiking route should look like. Some basic facilities like toilets and a ice cream available (in the summer). Be there early as car park gets very busy quickly. On the good side car park is very cheap.
V.
Amazing to have a visit and small picnic when the weather is nice and clear.
G. R.
Always a pleasure to visit 😎📷👍
D. R.
Lots to explore with the kids and some challenging walks too - a good day out if the weather is nice!
H. H. S.
Absolutely beautiful place, we walked all around the reservoir even with my 10month old in a pram. Parking is a bit of a hassle and the toilets were disgusting no water was coming out so had to use the water tap on the side but seen loads of ppl not taking hygiene seriously!
I. Y.
A good easy walk for beginners. Nice sites and and some divergent routes for the more adventurous.
The main route around the reservoir has an accessible path for wheelchair and mobility scooter users (just don't forget your RADAR key). Some of the hills can be a bit tricky for less mobile wheelchair users so make sure to have support and take your time.
S.
Love the place people are friendly, great walk for the family, nice challenge if you want to climb the waterfall, word of warning get there early if you want a car parking space gets really busy can pay for parking cash or card cheap aswell.
A. K. R.
Beautiful hill walk mind I was in shorts T-shirts and trainers so not quite the footwear for hill walking so do take appropriate footwear but once up on the hills the views were spectacular and well worth the trek
D. D.
One of the best places I know to go for a peaceful walk. The views surrounding the reservoir are awesome. There are a few choices of walks depending on how fit you are and how much time you want to spend. I just like to follow the path around the reservoir but you can head off into the hills if your legs can take you there.
A. S.
Wonderful place to visit near Manchester
K. B.
Beautiful place to visit and lots of wonderful walks to suit all ages and abilities.
However insufficient parking and very old parking meters. Been a few times at a weekend and the car park has been closed.
K. M.
Lovely place for a nice walk with the family
D. B.
Please like if helpful 👍
This was my first visit to Dovestone reservoir and I loved it. Parking was easy and only £1 for two hours. There are some lovely walks around the reservoir with varying degrees of difficulty so the choice is yours. The landscape is beautiful too. It was not very busy on the day I was there but I'm told it can get quite busy on occasion. All in all a good day out. You won't be disappointed.
P. E.
Very nice place to visit, the car park can get very busy.
J. H.
Toilets,car parks, nice views.
A. H.
Great for if you want to hike for a few hours, but trash and fires can be a problem sometimes, although no fault of the reservoir itself. It’s a shame they don’t have a cafe or shop for days when I forget my water bottle.
S. M.
Beautiful scenery, takes about 3 hours to walk around but the path can get pretty muddy so check the weather otherwise you can walk up to the waterfall (on the higher path) but there's not an actual path after this so you can choose to go up into the hills or turn back.
F. V.
Really nice walks and views!
P. C.
Beautiful place but does get bissy can be hrd to find a parking spot sometimes
a. j.
Lovely place to visit great views good for hiking.
D. A.
A nice easy walk around the reservolr.
S. V.
Nice countryside walk on boxing day. Never seen the place so busy with people walking dogs. Main car park was filled to capacity. Had to park in the upper Car park and walk down. Weather was reasonable but far too many people with dogs not on their leads causing mayhem.
A. S.
£1 pay and display for 2 hours
Breath taking views
Must see
Boating club and sheep farm at back
Lots of species of birds.
Family friendly walk.
Toilets close early but Greenfield Tesco with toilet is a short drive away.
K. G.
Great for full day out. Not wheelchair friendly if you want to go right around the reservoir. Toilets need updating and no disabled toilet. Take a picnic and flask and you spend a full family day. Car park is cheap.
C. T.
Stunning place, plenty of routes to suit all abilities. Toilets at car park are clean (and open again after lockdown). No cafe but ice cream van was there and usually a food van too.
C. H.
This is a great place for a lovely walk. Some nice pubs nearby for food afterwards. There's an ice-cream van on the car park to.
H. H.
It is a beautiful place to spend a whole day with family, friends or just alone. A unique contact with nature, beautiful landscapes to enjoy, beautiful views that will make you fall in love with this place. For those who like to walk and enjoy nature, this is the ideal place. I highly recommend it. You can't miss this great experience!
D. M.
Love this place first as a kid.... Had many a picnic on a summers day...now great for long walks. Is beautiful in the winter. Popular with dog walkers and cyclists. The sheep that wander around are pretty fab too.
Highly recommend this place. Think parking is free for certain society membership owners like the nspb
M. A.
Nice place to visit with kids, dogs etc.. Beautiful place, unfortunately this time road closed due to being busy... Get there early if you want a parking space.
S. K.
Lovely place! Great outdoor walk! Lovely on dry days parking is no longer free though!
S. t.
A lovely place to sit and watch the world go by
M. F.
It's a beautiful place to go to. Highly recommend it. There's a lot of places to park, also you can buy an ice-cream from a van (which was very tasty by the way). There are also toilets but unfortunately they aren't very nice.
M. M.
A great walk up to chew reservoir but the part round dovestone reservoir a little too busy on a sunday
A. C.
Stunning, just Stunning location
j. h.
Amazing views, Great for walks and jumping in muddy puddles 😆😉.
T. H.
Beautiful place to walk round on a nice day will definitely love to come again and explore more. Cheap parking think its 60p for 3 hour or £1.30 all day. Only seen an ice cream van around so bring plenty of food and drink if your making a day of it.
A. K.
Beautiful and peaceful place to go for a walk and get away from the city especially at night, listening to the water and the wind blowing across the lake also watching the sun come up in the morning and everything around the lake coming to light and the birds singing in the morning not to mention the ducks lol just being somewhere where your talking in fresh air and enjoying the open eye catching scenery we are blessed with. A special experience highly recommended.
S. N.
Let’s mention the good first - this is a beautiful place with a tranquil walk that is a decent length, even for hardy children! Very clearly signposted and you could even get a buggy round if you wanted. However, the parking situation is pretty horrendous. Fair enough we went on a bank holiday but it took ages to get a space in the tiny car park with tiny spaces. Later in the day people were queueing for ages for a car park attendant to tell them to turn around and find somewhere else. Not pleasant when you have kids especially. If this was fixed it would be a great day out!
U. J.
Realy good place for enjoy the summer
C. S.
This an excellent place to visit and spend the day, I can't believe this just on our doorstep in the Peak District just on the other side of Huddersfield. Its an amazing place.
F. T.
One of the most beautiful places near Manchester. Very quiet, beautiful nature and could be a good place to go to for a romantic day out in nature.
k. T.
Beautiful place.... scenery is amazing
P. C.
Super place for a walk.
Y. D.
Great walk. Despite clear notice, I don't know why people keep their dogs free and sometimes dogs start chasing lambs. Just £2.5 for full day parking.
H. P.
Lovely place to walk about
Z. D.
Very pleasant walk around the reservoir. Wife has bad knees and totally enjoyed the walk, there's plenty of benches along the walk to stop and rest if you need to. Only criticism is the toilets were shut, by the time we got back to the car park... oh yes the car park! When we arrived It was full, I was told to try the next one along the road, that was full too, but there wasn't much room to turn around. Eventually went back to main car park and got in... it was worth the effort. Definitely putting it on my list to visit many times moor.😉
J. G.
This place has the best scenery in oldham by far and possibly in northwest. This is my go to place for weekends for my morning jogs. The fresh air in the morning is phenomenal, the cacaphony is my kind of music to my jogs. If you're close by do pay the place a visit you will not be disappointed.
P. S.
I have been to Dovestones a number of times as the founding member of the Coddiwomple Club UK. @CoddiwompleClubUK
This time I went up to the Trinnacle. A great climb up the rocks Birchen Clough and waterfall. It’s not that tricky but it’s best if there’s two of you….just in case.
It was worth for the view from the Trinnacle but too windy to actually climb up onto it to get the picture I wanted.
Wrap up warm for the top though as it does get cold and windy.

One of my favourite places round Manchester!
Beautiful place, ideal for a long peaceful walks, hills climbing, relaxation, surrounded by beautiful nature. Ideal for romantic, family or lonely walks or walk with a dog. Love coming here every time!
I. W.
This is a great location for a family walk and perhaps a picnic. The walk around the main reservoir is relatively easy and flat(ish) for those wanting more or a challenge the walk to up to Chew reservoir is a bit tougher and quieter.
J. M.
Love Dovestones. If u want to visit without a car go via Greenfields train station and call a cab from outside. Oldham cabs took us and they also have cars which you can request take your dog.
S. J.
Glorious and wonderful place for a stroll, now matter what the weather.
I would have given 5 stars but for the parking and on site toilets.
On a nice sunny weekend, you will be very pushed to find a parking spot.
J. B.
Nice place for a walks, Short and long. 60p for 3 hours, £1.30 all day free for RSPB members displaying sticker. Toilets by main car park. Small car park so on the nicer days it's usually full by midday.
s. a.
Very beautiful place for walking only one problem is parking space
K. C.
Stunning place
J. J.
Very good place to visit
N. B.
Beautiful walks for all ranges. Main car park is a bit expensive.
V. D.
All time favourite! Nice walk, nice view. If you like you can also do bit of hiking.
O. R.
Love my walks and jog at dovestones. Never gets old. Friendly people there.
K.
A beautiful place where you can choose really how much you want to do. A picnic or a good walk. Worth a visit
C.
Absolutely stunning scenery. We took the most adventurous routes we could find visiting all three resevoirs, where we explored the breathtakingly beautiful snow covered crags & Saddleworth moor.
If you have never been before, do it now!
Be prepared for all types of landscapes to tread amongst, from knee deep snow to boggy marshlands, and steep and shallow inclines. Take plenty of coffee, water, food and courage for the steep bits :)
M. C.
It's a right big reservoir, some issues with idiots with BBQs, -big fire risk, but great spot, if you walk slightly off main path, you see hardly anyone, much busier on main path, consider getting bus to The Clarence pub, as car park often gets full.
L. G.
Lovely walk, but parking is a nightmare when it's busy!
W. S.
Great place to hike around
E. G.
Excellent for a dog walk
T. R. W.
Stunning views 😍
J. B.
We came here for a walk and a bit of fresh air. The area is beautiful and scenic. There are a few routes to take we just did a lap around the reservoir. The lap was about 4.7km from the car park and is relatively flat.
There are other routes that take you up onto the hills looking down on the reservoir the car Park is 60p for 3 hours or £1.20 all day
D. L.
Beautiful place to visit.
M. K.
Not far from a busy metropolis but feels a million miles away. Some gentle walks round the reservoir which you can do in a wheelchair and some challenging hikes up the surrounding hills and moors. Car park is OK and always has reasonable priced catering vans nearby.
p. h.
Great walk with good views but make sure you buy a parking ticket or you will come back to a parking fine
N. V.
The beauty of Dovestones reservoir is far beyond the words. Majestic views of the reservoir along with beautiful skies clouds and greenery is breathtaking. Definitely worth the visit.
a. b.
Wonderful place, lovely scenery will looked after, reasonable car parking prices too with toilets.
G. T.
Amazing place to walk around. Its missing a nice coffee shop and more parking.
j. t.
Stunning location. Ample parking at a reasonable cost. There is an ice cream van and a food van there. Also has free to use toilets.
J. Y.
Beautiful scenery with easy walks. However parking can be difficult on sunny days due to the limited spaces
B. T.
Great Sunday morning walk in the wind
L. C.
Perfect location for a few hours out. Scenery was stunning especially with the snow capped mountains. Can't wait to come back in the summer for a slightly longer walk with a picnic!
J. E.
Lovely walk and amazing views

S. R.
Great place to go for a walk. Several routes to choose between, and plenty of benches to stop for a picnic or rest on the way around. The carpark is very reasonable (£1 for two hours) and accessible.
n. s.
We Love this place great for family walks.. Also if you want challenging walk.
S.
It's a really nice place but the issue is PARKING very hard to get a decent spot we found parking 45 MINUTES AWAY
A. K.
Great place to go for a walk. Lovely views. Only bad thing is the parking, not enough spaces for everyone. Shows how popular it is though
K. Z. S.
Lovely walk with parking (the machine accepts cards) well worth a visit. Circular walk available. Good for dogs and prams
*. c. *.
Beautiful place to visit whoever your with, stunning views not many places this nice outside of saddleworth, perfect for dog walking, can get extremely busy when the sun's out
P. S.
Dovestone is a wonderful area to wander around for just the price of parking, or for free if you are an RSPB member.
G. H.
A lovely autumn walk in the country. Great views and handy parking.
M. L.
Such a beautiful place to visit all year round with so many different walks to do.
When you visit and park up be sure to walk the opposite direction around the reservoir to the way you walked last time. Visit the beautiful waterfall after the third reservoir.
A little slippery under foot after a downpour. But worth a climb to the top descending with the reservoirs on your right hand side 👌💚
S. C.
Gorgeous on a clear day.
s. h.
Amazing view and great for walks especially with the family. Many places to take selfies :)
M. 1.
Beautiful place for a lovely experience of walking and enjoying the scenery. Highly recommended 👌
N. I.
Nice walk and interesting reservoir
D. M.
Great place to walk around, especially in nice weather. Car Park gets very full though, so be prepared to have to park away from the reservoir and walk.
N. T.
Great place to visit. Would recommend whole heartedly. I have been hiking up here on the tops for many years now.... Take the chance to go.... Head up high and avoid circling the lake where it is busy.
D. O.
It's a lovely place to walk around it's so relaxing and chilled out around the the loads of good walks with your dogs and family 👪safe
K. G.
Great place was dog walking.large carport that cost. However use the small carport and it's free. From small carport you can watch birds feed. It's a nice walk around the reservoir.
G. C.
About the best reservoir I have visited and walked round. The scenery is brilliant. There was a coffee van and ice cream van there and toilets. There is a picnic area and benches at various points.
M.
Situated on the edge of Oldham and the Peak District National Park, Dove Stone Reservoir is a spectacular area popular with visitors and for family days out.
A picturesque spot, the main reservoir has its own sailing club, a permanent orienteering course, an extensive network of footpaths and good links to areas of open access moorland.
An easy access path makes it simple for the whole family (wheelchair and pushchair accessible see below for details) to take a stroll round the reservoir, stopping on the way at Chew Brook to explore the rocks and paddle in the stream. For the adventurous the site includes two more reservoirs to walk round, Greenfield and Yeoman Hey, from which you can explore Saddleworth moor and the crags above
C. L.
Me and my little girl had a walk round here today it was beautiful a lovely walk and lovely views that were breathtaking I would definitely recommend and we will be going again.
a. w.
Beautiful place. Stunning views if you take the high walk.
S. B.
Get there early to make sure you can park as it gets very busy. Lovely walks such a beautiful place.
S. W.
A great place for walking and lovely views.
f. l.
There is a scrambling routes after Greenfield reservoir make sure you have proper boots and there is a lot of climbing over boulders and rocks it's a better way to get to the top of the mountain then make your way down to yeoman reservoir it's by walking
K. R.
Arrived late morning. 60p Car park full however still managed to walk around with a feeling of having space and not being shoulder to shoulder with other folk. Lovely spot with lovely views. An enjoyable quick ramble of a couple of miles. Paths were free from dog poo although when straying off-piste it could be spotted. C'mon dog owners!!! JOHN from RSPB was very informative. Will come back to try and get a sight of the peregrins.
A. H.
Amazing place to enjoy a walk, it helps both your mind and body
a. s.
My favourite place to walk chill and unwind, the Pub at the bottom near the roundabout
"The Clarence " amazing food drinks and the staff are ace.
H. s.
Lovely walk, parking a bit hectic. Very picturesque and peaceful. Great for dogs.
A. B.
Love it here! A great place to escape from every day life. Not too far from the bus stop. Usually snacks are available via vans.
Fab to see RSPB area and varying species there
R. A.
Lovely place for a nice steady walk
B. T.
Excellent walks on the Moors and paths of the Peak District. Easy walks around the reservoir or harder hikes up to The Dove Stone, Indians Head or Pots and Pans.

Fantastic Place For A Walk. Varying Difficulties Of Walks, Some For Families With Kids, Some A Little Longer and The One We Went On Up The Waterfall Which Definitely Isn't Suitable For Kids. Enjoy
H. m. W.
Amazing.love it
K. S.
Place not so far frim Manchester. In good weather it is stunning. Good for walk/ridebike. There is parking very cheap but in off day and sunny day it's very busy. Ice cream track is there but just with icecreams and slusch. No drinks. Toilets are there but mostly without toilet paper. Nature is just beautiful 🤗
S. S.
One of our regular walking trips. A big hit with the kids. Stunning! Only negative is that it can often get too busy over bank Holidays, which means no parking!
T. C.
Simply beautiful, just go and enjoy the scenery and many walks.
K. S.
Loverly walk round the resovuoir
S. K.
Amazing place to go ,lovely walk has been busy due to kids still being off and you have to pay for parking
C. B.
Great place, easy walks, parking is a nightmare, tiny car parks and people that just wait for a space.
So park further away and walk in, we saw some hidden gems as a result and saved on parking!
M. G.
Beautiful stunning place great walk and it isn't too strenuous! Nice for a picnic or a family day out!
L. L.
The water is so relaxing just the scenery is amazing
L. T.
Great day out for family. The only thing is the small car park. We came at around 11am so no space left.
R. B.
Such a beautiful place. Can spend hours there walking around. And nice picnic table for kids to have some food.
C.
Very good place to go and explore but will need alot of water and energy 😁 because it is not really for the light hearted 😊 or u could just go for a stroll around with family if u don't want to go far
H. S.
Very good place to feel fresh air and welcoming the scenic atmosphere towards your eyes.Toilets are available but not so clean.Car parking is cheap and limited on site
K. D.
Love Dovestones! Something draws me here all the time... there's the path to walk/run around the full reservoir or if you walk down the gated path and to the left it leads to the stream and also to the right leads to the stream, where my kids love crossing from rock to rock on the 'stepping stones' then splashing each other with water, its a safe depth for us to sit on a big rock or on the grassy verge, and the water is so clear...but very cold:) Perfect place for a person needing some thinking space, or a few hours out with the kids or for long dog walks... In the daytime this place is beautiful but at night its magical, on clear nights the stars appear so big they look close enough to touch & the sky always seems so amazingly bright! I've seen loads of shooting/falling stars up here and satellite's passing over... Its just a lovely place to be:)
K. J.
Brilliant place for walk, pram friendly :-) views are amazing, must be see
s. s.
Absolutely awesome place, great scenery, nice to walk around the reservoir and up on the hills. One of the hills is called Indian's head and well recommended for the views
C. K.
Great place for a walk
P. K.
Beautiful walk around the res'. Highly recommend the climb above it. The views are spectacular.
V. L.
¹lovely outdoor place for walk and picnic
M. M.
Great place. Reccomend parking nearby and walking over. It's practically impossible to get in and find a parking spot. Cut through the path opposite the Clarence and it takes you straight there.
The place is even better now bars are opening up again. The place feels much less crowded
W. B.
Beautiful natural environment absolutely love it plz bring coins with u for parking becox card machine is always broke and yeah plz dnt throw things I have seen people doing this

L. P.
Beautiful for a day out, good amount of parking spaces but getting there early will always help!

Stunning landscape with accessible paths around the Reservoir with some more tricky paths through woodland etc. Fair bit of wildlife to see aswel
A. C.
Its a beautiful place! Best in bad weather or very early to avoid the daft crowds
D. D. M. K.
Excellent day out many different terrains for walkers cycling and dog handlers
M. G.
If you like fresh air, beautiful views and enjoy walking then it's well worth your time to visit.
d. s.
Great views, head up in to the farmer fields for a better walk away from the crowds.
J. M.
beautiful
M. P.
Lovely walk with great views. It really feels like you are on a walk in the countryside instead of just following a path around a reservoir. For a longer walk we took a left turn at the new bridge (half way point) and continued up to the top of the reservoir and around. Probably adds on another 20 minutes.
D. F.
Despite all the recent rain the footpaths were in good order with only a few muddy places which were easily negotiated.
16/12/2019
J. E.
It's ok, and a good walk, but... Considering it's advertised by the RSPB as a nature reserve there is little natural here. A man-made reservoir surrounded by non-native pine-plantation forest and the apparatus of intensive pheasant rearing/shooting makes a stunning landscape feel hollow, lifeless and empty. MUCH work needs to be done to breathe life back into this landscape in order to return it to glory.
F. K.
Nice place to go to when the weather is good
G. D.
Easy hike for all ages. It can be very slipy on rainy day!
E. S.
Beautiful place! Perfect for picnics and great walks around the reservoir.
C. A.
I love how peaceful it is around here. So many different walks to enjoy too.
H. B.
My favourite for meditation
M. B. A.
Please take you litter Home

Always the place to go for fresh air, walks and the dogs. The children shouldn't find it too boring. You can't go wrong in the main.
