Very good customer service (although the queue was long when I called, I had to wait 30 minutes to speak to someone). However, when it's your turn, they tried their best to answer all your questions and actually went above and beyond to help with your issues. So, if the waiting time is reduced, it would be fantastic.

Under restoration. Perhaps come back in 2024.

I often saw many tourist, of recent chinese visitors taking pictures of Manchester city council and the town centre. Manchester is a great place to visit and live, the central library, post office, KPMG building, University of Manchester, Manchester Metropolitan University, Manchester Police enquiry office, Manchester United Football Club are nearby including hotels. The Manchester councils also host many events and christmas shows, tram and buses are often used to travel within manchester with free internet and at affordable prices.

Very beautiful land mark. Unfortunately the day I went visited it there were a lot of construction and renovation in the area.
Lovely people and restaurants in the surroundings.
I highly recommend visiting it during the holiday seasons

Really beautiful hall steeped in local history and a great place to host an event. We had the company Christmas party here and it was excellent. The food was cooked to perfection and served by great staff with the kind of precision and care you don't often see these days. Even posh Aunt Mabel wont be disappointed!
L. K.
One of my favourite place in England. It’s really nice and beautiful building. You should check it out. Grab a cup of coffee and just sit on the beach a front of the hall and just relax. Your day will be good. I strongly recommend you this Town hall!
Have a lovely day

After always dismissing Manchester as being a bit of a rough dive, the couple of times I've been fortunate to visit over the last couple of months have really turned me around.
Great, modern city with great culture and (dare I say) fashion.
The Christmas Markets were out of this world compared to what we have in Newcastle. I wish I didn't have a meal planned that evening because I just wanted to try so much of the food!
S. M.
Great building, nice place to get rest with a lot of benches, but unfortunately it will be close by 2024.
C. S.
Great architecture and a historical value. People's gathering place.
D. J.
Too bad that I didn’t have opportunity to visit the interior due to renovation, but the exterior is impressive enough
N. K.
Great building, the square is fantastic, many shops, cafes, stores, and great places to go for a walk and see Manchester
P.
City Hall is exceptionally impressive with many historic art works, numerous 'mansion like' meeting rooms, statues, marble columns and the list goes on! There is a cafe on the ground floor. Highly recommended if you are in Manchester and you are up for some history... hurry though because it closes Christmas 2017 for a minimum of 5 years whilst it is refurbished.
A. A. S.
Very good place for spending new years night here at the heart of the city

Must visit when you arrive to Manchester
T. G.
I visited in July 2019. This place is stunning and looks amazing. A must see when visiting Manchester. Although it was being renovated at same places I think it should look wonderful now. There is an open square which is great for walking around and other things too see as well in the area.
B. F.
the place currently closed but from the outside there's a beautiful statue

Just taken part in a grand tour of the Gothic styled Manchester Town Hall. Built by Thomas Waterhouse and decorated externally with the three symbols of God; the trinity of windows reaching up to the sky, Man; the various statues of men and woman and Earth. Floral decorations adorning the walls. On top of the spire is a golden cotton flower in homage to the Cotten products and mills. A must to see are the twelve panels painted by Ford Madox Brown found in the main hall.
E. C.
Believe the council members office is used to cover up corruption involving the combined authority breaching data protection and i believe use judges to stich families up in court.disgusting .shamefull, should be nicknamed."soddom and gomara
a. f.
You seldom see the building with Renaissance style in manchester but luckily the town hall still has its touch
R. C.
The interior of the Town Hall is wonderful. Visit the person on the desk by the door, there you can get a visitors pass to go up to the first floor. On this level you can see the magnificent Great Hall, Conference Room, Banqueting Chamber etc. Well worth a visit.
E. F.
Beautiful building
S. L.
Wow, what beautiful building to get your Booster.
C. T.
It's a lovely building built when Manchester was sure of itself and its place in the world.
There's a square with the obligatory statues and seating where it's great to spend time on a sunny day.
It is a working building and so you'll need to wait for an open day to be able to view some of its interior but just a causal visit will leave you impressed with it.
I believe that it's interior has stood in for the Houses of Parliament in a number of films and TV productions.
S. R.
This review is For the Town Hall building itself and NOT about the Council.
The building was completed in 1877 after architect Alfred Waterhouse won a compertition to build the building based on a Gothicist design. With the first Stone being laid in 1868 and at a cost of 1 million Pounds, paid for by revenue from the Cotton Industry.
Unfortunately the building is currently closed as the building is being renovated to bring it upto date and once back open in 2024 you will once again be able to see the Great Hall, Ford Maddock Murals, tthe unmissable Bee mosaic and the beautiful corridors and state rooms of this beautiful building.
In the meantime I'll leave some photos of how it looked before refurbishment as a little taster of things to come.
S. E.
I think it’s closed.

very beautiful

Manchester City Council is the local government authority for Manchester, a city and metropolitan borough in Greater Manchester, England. It is composed of 96 councillors, three for each of the 32 electoral wards of Manchester. The council is controlled by the Labour Party and led by Sir Richard Leese. There is one Liberal Democrat councillor (former MP for Manchester Withington from 2005-15, John Leech), and one Green Party councillor. Joanne Roney is the chief executive. Many of the council's staff are based at Manchester Town Hall.
Manchester was incorporated in 1838 under the Municipal Corporations Act 1835 as the Corporation of Manchester or Manchester Corporation. It achieved city status in 1853, only the second such grant since the Reformation. The area included in the city has been increased many times, in 1885 (Bradford, Harpurhey and Rusholme), 1890 (Blackley, Crumpsall, part of Droylsden, Kirkmanshulme, Moston, Newton Heath, Openshaw, and West Gorton), 1903 (Heaton), 1904 (Burnage, Chorlton cum Hardy, Didsbury, and Moss Side), 1909 (Gorton, and Levenshulme), 1931 (Wythenshawe: Baguley, Northenden, and Northen Etchells), and Ringway in 1974. A new Town Hall was opened in 1877 (by Alderman Abel Heywood) and the Mayor of Manchester was granted the title of Lord Mayor in 1893.
Under the Local Government Act 1972 the council was reconstituted as a metropolitan borough council in 1974, and since then it has been controlled by the Labour Party. In 1980, Manchester was the first council to declare itself a nuclear-free zone. In 1984 it formed an equal opportunities unit as part of its opposition to Section 28.
Elections are usually by thirds (a third of the seats elected, three years in every four), although the 2018 and 2004 elections saw all seats contested due to substantial boundary changes. Labour has controlled a majority of seats in every election since the council was reconstituted. Between 2014 and 2016 Labour occupied every seat with no opposition. In the local elections held on 5 May 2016, former Manchester Withington MP, John Leech, was elected with 53% of the vote signifying the first gain for any party other than Labour for the first time in six years in Manchester and providing an opposition for the first time in two years. On 7 March 2017, it was reported that City Centre Councillor Kevin Peel had been suspended from the Manchester Labour group after reports of bullying. He sat as an independent, still taking the Labour Group whip until he rejoined Labour. On 24 July 2019 it was reported that Majid Dar (Ancoats and Beswick) had been suspended by the Labour party.

Manchester City council is doing a decent job. They’re not the most efficient or the quickest, but those working there do care and I’ve witnessed good service from them for as long as I’ve lived in the city. We need to continue to become more ambitious as the city moves forward.
N. J.
Beautiful building at a very picturesque square. Nice to just walk or sit around.
C. S.
This place is good for so many things and would be good for people to attend to if not house because they would help you out so much even if you have a bad history of things and other places wont help see these. They are the people to help so much and are happy to help anyone homeless or just came out of prison.
R. A.
Lovely wedding venue. Beautiful building with so much history. I'm sure we'll return.
N. P.
We held our wedding ceremony here in April 2013. We chose the venue for its character and history and loved the Conference Hall where our ceremony took place. The staff were very helpful. Thank you for helping us have a special day.

The fireworks on the Christmas-lights-turn-on-show were pretty cool here. Most of the festivals take place around here. The Town Hall is a very nice building in the heart of Manchester.

I'm Yun from Korea.
I lost my bike in Manchester but many people did donate for me.
I am now in Argentina.
I want to talk about donations.
First of all, thank you to those who sent me donations.
With the help of many people
Nick has collected 3535 pounds, and ukmtp has collected 667 pounds.
ukmtp sent me a donation (667 pounds).
I was assisted by Lee Hindle.
And when it was deposited into my account, the money was transferred to Lee Hindle's account.
I can not speak English well. When I buy things I need to travel, Lee will buy them.
But there was a problem.
We used 2372 pounds to buy bikes from donations. And Nick bought camping equipment. The problem is that the remaining money is still on Lee Hindle's bankbook.
The total donation is 4202 pounds(3535 + 667).
I have been worried for a long time.
And I wrote this because I thought I should inform the people who sent me the donation.
Thanks again to those who gave me a donation.

Hello, Mayor, I am a Korean who has lost my bike, I can continue my journey with the help of the mayor of Manchester and many friends.
Although I lost my bike, it was an honor to be able to experience the UK as a country of gentlemen.
Thanks again to the mayor and friends for their help.

Grand old historic building, more ornate than many cathedrals. Top notch cafe with nice linen & china and very good prices. About to undergo a major clean & refit so it should be even more spectacular in a couple of years.

A fantastic place to visit. If you can, sign up for the guided tour that takes you within the rooms and get acquainted with a slice of history! The building is architecturally lovely and beautiful with loads of opportunities (and angles) for shutter bugs to enjoy! There is also a lovely cafe within the Town Hall and is great for afternoon teas.

The town hall is stunning inside and out! There is a beautiful cafe inside which is well worth the visit very elegant. During the Christmas period you can find stalls just inside the entrance and a beautiful tree. Fireworks are set off from the roof at new year and the Christmas light switch on that are spectacular

Manchester Town Hall is a building full of character with its impressive architecture. I loved the vaulting, stained glass windows and artwork in the interior. I visited with a friend and we were going to have lunch there but decided on afternoon tea at midday instead! It was absolutely delicious with a choice of sandwiches, cakes and pastries beautifully presented on a three-tier stand.
T. S.
Got married here in 2015, very nice friendly place, the above building is awful though and a strip club is outside, although none of it mattered on the day as I got the women of my dreams.

R. S. N.
I suppose the Town Hall is beautiful inside, I coudn't enter. Outside is nice, but not extraordinary.
Manchester: what a weird city!! old, classic and somewhat beautiful buildings are destroyed to build horrible modernities, as recently happened in Mosley St. beside St. Peter's Sq.
And there isn't a single park in the whole city center! It's not an attractive city ....
G. H.
Really nice building,

Confusing layout and unhelpful staff. Had an event here and it felt like none of the staff had a clue what was going on

Manchester Town Hall is a Victorian, Neo-gothic municipal building in Manchester, England. It is the ceremonial headquarters of Manchester City Council and houses a number of local government departments. The building faces Albert Square to the north and St Peter's Square to the south, with Manchester Cenotaph facing its southern entrance.
Designed by architect Alfred Waterhouse, the town hall was completed in 1877. The building contains offices and grand ceremonial rooms such as the Great Hall which is decorated with Ford Madox Brown's imposing Manchester Murals illustrating the history of the city. The entrance and Sculpture Hall contain busts and statues of influential figures including Dalton, Joule and Barbirolli. The exterior is dominated by the clock tower which rises to 280 feet (85 m) and houses Great Abel, the clock bell.
In 1938, a detached Town Hall Extension was completed and is connected by two covered bridges over Lloyd Street. The town hall was designated as a Grade I listed building on 25 February 1952.
Planning for the new town hall began in 1863. Manchester Corporation demanded it be, 'equal if not superior, to any similar building in the country at any cost which may be reasonably required'. The choice of location was influenced by a desire to provide a central, accessible, but relatively quiet site in a respectable district, close to Manchester's banks and municipal offices, next to a large open area, suitable for the display of a fine building. After investigating suitable sites, including Piccadilly, an oddly shaped plot facing Albert Square was chosen. The Albert Square frontage measures 323 feet (98 m), Lloyd Street is 350 feet (107 m), Princess Street the longest at 383 feet (117 m) and Cooper Street measures 94 feet (29 m). On this tight site, the corporation built a grand hall, a suite of reception rooms, quarters for the lord mayor, offices and a council chamber.
The second stage of a competition to design the town hall which attracted 137 entries was judged by Thomas Leverton Donaldson, a classicist, and gothicist George Edmund Street. The eight finalists were Waterhouse, William Lee, Speakman & Charlesworth, Cuthbert Brodrick, Thomas Worthington, John Oldrid Scott, Thomas Henry Wyatt and Edward Salomons. In terms of design and aesthetics, Waterhouse's proposal was placed fourth behind those of Speakman & Charlesworth, Oldrid Scott and Worthington but his design was considered far superior in architectural quality, layout and use of light and he was appointed architect on 1 April 1868.
The foundation stone was laid on 26 October 1868 by the Mayor, Robert Neill. Construction took nine years and used 14 million bricks. Estimates for the cost of construction vary from £775,000[2] to around £1,000,000 translating to between £72,120,000 and £93,050,000 in 2021. When Queen Victoria refused to attend, Manchester Town Hall was opened on 13 September 1877 by the mayor, Abel Heywood, who had championed the project.

The Manchester Town Hall, although is now closed for refurbishment, is quite eye-catching; Both externally and internally.
It hosts an elegant cafe, but unfortunately the service is very poor.
If you book a wedding in their conference rooms however, you'll be treated like royalty.
They also host the notorious Manchester Christmas Market each year and that fills to the brim with customers, both local and national. And of course there are the many businesses selling supplements and hand crafted items, many of which had travelled across Europe to be there. Many are turned away due to not having enough space to accommodate them. Instead, they are put on a waiting list.
It is a building of sophistication, and is well maintained.

(Translated) It is true that I walked with my family aimlessly, enjoying the old area in the center of the city, without thinking about consulting guides or plans, lost and left us surprised, the building is a beautiful Gothic style maybe late, accentuated with color of the stone, red surrounding, the detail of its facades and thinking ornaments we loved it. Beautiful.

Precioso.

(Translated) I spent the end of the year here and it was fantastic surrounded by people from all over the world and feeling like a real mancuner since it was a city that overwhelmed me from the beginning and I loved the idea of starting the year next to this emblematic building that next to its square and a few meters away from the relog I felt he was moved to each bell by being my first year away from home and I shared the beginning with many nationalities as citizens of the world

Since our time in Manchester was limited, we only looked at the City Hall from the outside. It is an imposing structure, the architecture is very detailed. If we had had more time, I would have liked to see it from the inside too. As a photo motif, City Hall is probably one of THE buildings in Manchester.
