Reviews of The View Student Accommodation

The View is a great accommodation well located within the city. As a Computer Science student my building was just around the corner. The Tesco Express right next to the entrance of the View is very convenient. I lived in a studio apartment and it was very spacious and modern. The people at the reception were always very helpful and friendly. I would totally recommend it!

I live here. It's alright. The staff on the reception are really friendly and helpful, which is a plus. Maintenence issues are also resolved at a comfortable pace. The rooms are also cozy and the view is really really cool.
As far as student accomodation goes it's really solid but there are a few things to consider if you plan on staying here.
There are 17 floors of apartments, but only two sets of lifts, with one breaking down very frequently. You can figure out for yourself why this would become a source of frustration.
Some of the kitchen appliances provided are questionable in terms of quality. It would also be nice if the wardrobes had some form of lighting, as the doors inconveniently block out the ceiling lights.
If you compare The View to the The Verde you can see how Downing Students assessed the failures and shortcomings of the former in order to ensure the improved quality of the latter.

I think The View is a good place to live in first year due to its proximity to the city centre and only a 20 minute walk to campus. It has spacious rooms however I think the kitchen would benefit from more cupboard space. The reception and maintenance staff are friendly and will help with any issues you may have.

The view is a very nice place to live, I’ve made lots of new friends whilst staying here and the flats have been good. Reception has also been great, especially Lauren who is always lovely, doing little mini events even during coronavirus which has made the experience a lot more enjoyable. Brilliant place to live for first year students definitely recommend this place.

I have really enjoyed my time staying here at The View as a first year student. The rooms are big and spacious and it is so convenient having an en-suite. The kitchen/lounge area is perfect for socialising. One bad thing I would say about the kitchen is that the oven is not the best as it seems to take forever to cook food and my flat only had one oven shelf which was not so practical when there are up to six people that are wanting to use it. Besides this, the staff are so lovely and always willing to help, especially Lauren on reception. I also liked how reception always tried to do fun things such as quizzes or the wheel of good fortune where you could win goodies-this was really uplifting since we have had to spend so much time indoors because of the pandemic. In terms of location, The View is perfect for a first year student! It is not even a 10 minute walk from the centre which has so many shops, restaurants and bars and there is a Tesco express downstairs which is so handy when you cannot be bothered to walk far. It is also a great spot for students studying business since the business school is right next door. I would definitely recommend The View!

Rooms are very spacious and all the staff are very friendly. Lauren at the front desk is very helpful and nice to talk to. I would highly recommend to any student as it is very close to everything in newcastle and everything is within a 10 minute walk of here! Very nice building and nice people! Enjoyed my stay here for the last 9 months very much!

The rooms at the view are really spacious, especially considering it’s a university accommodation, and the living area is huge too! There isn’t too much space in the kitchen, in a flat of 6 we managed 1 1/2 cupboards each, but it’s definitely manageable! The reception staff are all so lovely and very helpful, especially Lauren! And the Tesco’s underneath is extremely convenient for last minute too ups, but it’s really close to bigger shops, there’s an Asda and an iceland about 15-20mins walk away from the city centre, and loads of Tesco’s, a huge M&S, Waitrose etc in the city centre about 10-15 minutes away so it’s really conveniently located! The en-suite is a really good size too, and comes with a towel rail and hooks for a dressing gown etc which is super helpful aswell! Though there’s only 2 lifts, I never waited too long to get to my floor, and I have personally never waited for a washing machine to be free either!
Overall, the accommodation is really nice and modern, and the reception staff and super friendly which definitely helps welcome you and settle you in!

Dropping my Son off for the start of the Uni term. Staff are very helpful. The rooms are clean well furnished, and the communal areas are spacious and a really nice addition to the living space.

Having lived here throughout my first year of university, I have nothing but positive things to say. The rooms are spacious and having an ensuite is a definite plus. It's great to have sufficient storage within the rooms and the under bed storage is great for storing larger items such as suitcases. The communal living space and kitchen is perfect for socialising although could benefit from a little extra space. Maintenance issues are dealt with promptly and all staff are super friendly, especially Lauren on reception, who is always around to help with parcels and concerns. The view is in a central location, ideal for easy city access with a Tesco directly below for any grocery essentials. The reception always have freebies and competitions on the go building the community feel of the View. Would highly recommend for anyone looking to stay in Newcastle.

Not what you would expect from a student accommodation - modern, clean and reasonably well equipped. Key fob entry and a security reception too, glad to know our daughter is reasonably safe there.

Stunning views in the perfect location for nights out in Newcastle. Though it’s been hard having first year during covid, The View has made an effort to lift everyone’s spirits through things like spin the wheel (where I won free mini golf) and giving out sweets and chocolates. Also Lauren the receptionist makes an effort to get to know everyone and is always super friendly, helping to make the place feel more homely, which is especially nice if it’s your first time away from home:)

The location is great, closer to the urban sciences building than the Newcastle uni main campus. The rooms are spacious but the kitchen does not have an air extractor. The rooms got too hot but the maintenance responds quickly so that was fixed. The staff are nice, never had any noise issues. The view is great especially the higher you go. My only complaint are the washing machines but it’s really the company that manages it, too expensive and doesn’t do the job properly.

Great location , 5 minute walk away from the city centre. Rooms are nice and spacious as well as the kitchen. Staff are always friendly and there is always someone to contact when help is needed

The reception staff are very warm and welcoming, they will go out of your way to make sure you have the best experience while staying in this accommodation. They are always happy to help with any situation and do so in a warm lighthearted manner.
The security are well mannered and will help you with problems when the reception is not open ,they make sure your security comes first and overall makes you feel very safe throughout stay.
Facility are amazing ,with great community areas ,such as the games room. They hold numerous event thoughout your stay, which are free to take part in and you can win numerous prizes and get free drinks and snacks.
The rooms and flats themselves are very well furnished and have a nice neural decor ,so it is easy to make your room your own.
I would highly recommend this accommodation to any student thinking about studying in Newcastle.

Probably the best accommodation in terms of location. Facilities are adequate (laundry room, common room, shared lounge) , room sizes are good too. Staff at reception approachable and happy to help, they organised regular social events for the building too. Glad I chose The View for my first year accommodation!

The location is great, you can find basically everything within ten-minute walk. including the uni campus. The studio rooms are pretty spacious and cozy, have everything you need during your study here. You have this common room so that you might social with your friends there. Staff are mostly kind and helpful. Maintainean team also respond quickly. Recommended

The View Sometimes gets a bad rep because it is expensive. But there are always reasons. Its location is probably the best of all the accomodations in Newcastle, only sharing the top spot with a few closeby. The rooms are genuinely nice, good room space, big desks, big beds, big showers. The staff have always been friendly. The few who write badly about them have clearly done something wrong. Maintence was always super fast, as in same day or next day. There is free coffee every weekday morning, and often fruit, sweets, doughnuts or something else based on the events. If you walk at a good pace its 8 minutes to NU, 5 mins to Chinatown, 8 to Tigertiger, sinners, Eldon, Hiyou, The Gate and one extra minute for Grainger Market. And its right above the Tesco express, though I would reccommend going to the Metro[big one] that is also nearby. oh and 10 seconds from the NU business school.
The only reason I have to give 4 and not 5 is because the laundry situation was a nightmare this year, with at least a few months worth of scattered time the machines didnt work, the filters not being cleaned out or checked meant some of my clothes were ruined by horrible dirty marks after coming out the washing machine! Its also expensive, but that is the same everywhere. There were other machines available in the sister building, but its far from "on-site" convenience.
Overall, the View is a great place to stay if you have the money. It sits in that little pocket underneath the overly expensive ones that charge far too much for stuff you wont use, but is more expensive that the basic/function only places. Both options of which are in garenteed worse locations and probably dont look as nice as the View.

Lots of social events, staff are lovely and always great to talk to, there are hot drinks available every morning and free giveaways of various things every so often (i.e. Easter eggs, fruit, water, snacks etc.). Organised competitions are also great! You can do it as a flat or by yourself. Maintenance is easy to request, and quickly resolved. Overall a great place to stay.

Thank you for stop collecting rent from students who have left your accommodation. In such a challenging time, I am glad Downing Student values ethic and fairness over profitability unlike your competitor in red with the name starting with V. You are truly a premium and responsible student accommodation.

Good: The view of The View is best in Newcastle. The scenery is impressive if your room is facing Gateshead and above 12th floor (taller than the hotel nearby). You will be able to see 6 bridges across the river Tyne. The landmarks you can see are Tyne bridge, Newcastle Castle, St Nicholas Cathedral, Millennium bridge, St Mary Cathedral, etc.
The location is good, very clsoe to NUBS and urban science building, but not close to main campus.
Bad: The wifi is weak, but it is fine if you use lan cable.
Common room isnt very big and usually need to share with other people which makes me feel a bit awkward due to the small environment.
Laundry isnt very reliable but thats the problem of a lot of accommodations.

Location, location, location. Nice student accommodation. Very easily accessed for parents to drop off pick up. 3 mins from crossing Redheugh bridge. Can stop outside to drop off but not park. Street parking just around the corner also. Tesco Express below accomodation is a bonus.

Monique the receptionist is one of the most helpful I've ever experienced, her radiating positive energy and contagious smile is one that makes me appreciate my stay at The View every day.

Being a very sociable person I was worried about the reviews before I moved in , but when I came to the view I loved it very sociable have lots of nights in the social doing quizzs and pres , the social aspect of the view is amazing I have met loads of people just from going to other people’s flats for pres for people coming to uni to have a good time this is perfect place as it’s close to town and to uni it’s very convenient I would take the other bad reviews with a pinch of salt
