Reviews of Warsash Maritime Academy, St Mary's campus
A thoroughly modern building adapted for the use of teaching maritime cadets. The ground floor a dedicated engineering space with the upper two floors being utilised as classroom space with interactive screens and decently sized classrooms.
Attentive and smart academic staff who are very knowledgeable in their respective fields backed up by a brilliant front of house team managing the main reception area, giving a warm and positive welcome to any visitors or cadets as they arrive.
My only criticism comes from a sense of nostalgia, as it lacks the charm and history of the previous Warsash campus and it feels as though it has a slight disconnect from the sea, where most cadets will spend their time, due to it now being a city centre location, rather than a coastal one.
As a former cadet, I have a mixed opinion about the college. For the most part, the education I'm receiving is excellent and certainly on top of its game, but there are a couple of issues that I think need addressing. The first is the timetabling issues, as we've sometimes had some lessons clashing, which thankfully were quickly rectified when we brought the issue up.
The second and more major is, I won't name names here, but one of the lecturers I have is absolutely useless, both as a lecturer and person. The way they teach some of our lectures is pretty much minimal to the point I really loathe them, and all they've really done is teach us the theory once, then expect us to know it perfectly first time round. This really doesn't help that they've got a strong streak of arrogance, and to quote, they would be "annoyed if anyone fails exams". They were part of the reason why I left part way through my cadetship, I hope no other cadets have to suffer with this lecturer.
Extremely brilliant faculty, good study environment.
