Nothing but respect and admiration for their service and love for our pet animals. I have never had even a hint of an issue with them. They have been my pet cat Mystic's vet ever since I moved to the area in 2017 and they have an absolutely spotless track record which is admirable given how much Mystic fears going to the vet (she suffered trauma before I adopted her). I took my cat to this surgery for the first time today and i could not have been any happier with the service. The receptionist was lovely and the vet was one of the nicest guys ever. He was fab, he was very gentle and talkative to the animals (which i loved), very personable to the owners and so down to earth. Our Hugo is a 5 months old border terrier, he had all his vaccines at Blackheath Veterinary Surgery. Every time we visited the vet, all staff are very friendly and happy to answer any questions we have. After Hugo has his KC vaccine, he vomited and wasn't really himself, so I sent an email to ask about it. One of the vet Alan came back to us very quickly (out of office hours), I was very pleased by that.

Very hit and miss. Its difficult to see the same vet twice and the advise they give can be conflicting. The same with the reception staff, some are good others are not. I've never once been seen on time, always have to wait quite a while with my cat getting stressed in her basket. Its the closest to my home though so the best option for my cat.

Dominic is the best vet I have ever seen. He is always zesty positive and smiling (you can tell he is smiling even under the mask). He is treating all animals like his own. We have been going to this practice, mainly to Alan van Heerden, BVSc, MRCVS, for 5 years for our two standard poodles. We cannot speak highly enough about this vet and the whole practice. Across the board, the vet’s knowledge, skill and understanding, the ability to explain things to clients, the good judgment when considering different options for treatment, and the quality of all the support staff (nurses and receptionists, especially Ashley, Chloe and Kim whom we deal with a lot) make this a truly exceptional practice. We use it a lot because both our dogs have long-term problems. Also, now, in the worst of the coronavirus pandemic for London, we continue to visit it frequently (aged 67 and 72) and have no qualms at all thanks to the flawless care the practice is taking to ensure clients’ safety.

I’ve been bringing Chewie here for almost nine years since he was a pup and he scrambles to get into the place. The vets here are all extremely courteous, friendly and thorough and I simply cannot fault them. They seem to take a genuine interest in my dog and - being a first time paranoid dog owner (for want of a better phrase) - have been extremely sympathetic as far as any concerns I’ve ever had are, well, concerned. Never a problem with booking appointments and am always greeted by a friendly face behind the main desk.

Fantastic and professional veterinary practice that is really holistic about their approach to your pets. I've had to go in a few times for my cat, including one operation under GA and the pre-care and after-care was exceptional. I felt really confident with their recommendation and care and was kept up to date throughout the day. Alan and James are wonderful vets. I work with dogs full time, so I get to know a lot about vets. Alan and James are very knowledgeable and extremely caring. I trust them 100%. Excellent support staff at the practice too. They are not my nearest vets, but they are the ones I will always go to. Post script, May 2020: And now I have lost my own wonderful boxers Timmy and Ben. Timmy went a year ago aged 14 and 2 months, and Benny just now aged 13 and 4 months, always given such brilliant care by Alan and the team. On Alan's recommendation Benny also had acupuncture from Nicky at the partnership practice Animal Clinic on Shooters Hill Road. It really helped him with his rear legs. So thank you Nicky too. I cannot imagine better vets. Thank you

I have only good things to say about the Blackheath Veterinary Surgery. I am very surprised by the negative comments from 2/3 years ago. I am starting to wonder if it is even the same vet! I am moving in a few weeks to a different area of London and am really going to miss Alan and his team. Two years ago, I brought in my cat when she was just 8 weeks old and since then I have been so happy with the service and the care she receives. I really hope that I find another Vet who is just as caring and charges such reasonable prices. The Surgery is always helpful with my queries and I usually get an appointment within the week. They are always open about their prices for treatments and have never tried to ‘up sell’ me anything; which is something I have seen whilst visiting another vet with my mother’s animals. I am truly going to miss this surgery and advise anyone who lives in the area to take their animals here.

I was welcomed by Kim the receptionist who explained they were running a little behind. My cat FOXY was called for, I went in the room, and again was greeted by a lovely surgeon but I can't remember her name. I told her what the matter was with Foxy. She checked him over and as she was doing so she was explaining everything to me, and what treatment she would start with,and also about future treatments if needed.I went out to Kim the receptionist who apologised again for the wait. I made another appointment and paid my bill, which for the first time I felt was worth every penny. I wish I had gone there year's ago.

Great vet! Transferred from another local vet who misdiagnosed my cat with terminal cancer, worrying me needlessly (and costing me £1,500 in the process). Have taken dogs and cats to them and they give options and recommendations on treatment in a sensitive way. We have two rescued Romanian street dogs, both of whom have required treatment. The practice is great - reliable, compassionate and sympathetic to the individual animals' needs (particularly with regard to one of our dogs who because of her background is extremely defensive towards other animals), and a recent referral and surgery was carried out extremely quickly. I sadly had to have my old rescue cat pts and, again, the staff were lovely and very professional, especially as he was a very vicious boy and by no means easy to deal with!

We cannot be more happy that we are registered at Blackheath Vet. Our 11-year cat Remy has been going to Blackheath Vets for annual check-ups for years, and a few months ago they discovered that the cause of a sudden change of behaviour was an intestinal tumour. After evaluating all of our options we decided that operating was the only reasonable solution - and both Ash and Alan performed a very lengthy and complicated surgery on Remy a few days after the diagnosis. We could not be happier with the level and care and attention that everyone at the clinic provided. Aside from the surgery itself we received regular updates and aftercare advise, and Remy is now doing much better. We have since had reason to visit them again, for new issues to Remy's health, and still are extremely thankful to everyone at Blackheath Vets.

I have been a customer here, on and off for 10 years or so. They are the most wonderful practice. Through my previous cat Dookie's heart condition, and treatment, to saying they'd fit me in on the day it was time to say goodbye. I had that day again today, with scrawny Wobbly Dave, a cat I have cared for, 7 of the 15 years I've known him. The staff were so lovely, had tissues at the ready (they were needed! ). Explained the process well, so I would know what to expect. I've taken him in there in some sorry states, when he's escaped for a couple of days, (at age 18! And 19 respectively I might add. he was re-named houdini for a while) and injured his scrawny starving self. We were treated with dignity, respect and kindness by all the staff on every occasion. Today they made a tough day a lot easier. I thank you for your services over the years. You never know... I may be back some day...

Alan and his Team have been instrumental in the early days of the charity, understood our needs and provided excellent service and advice without cutting corners to care or quality of treatment. Alan is our trusted vet, for all emergencies and clinical cases and the rare breed of a vet with a conscience. Many of our volunteers' own pets are now clients at BV; same goes to the two Sanctuary dogs, of which one is a registered blood donor at the clinic! As a charity, we work with various vets in various parts of London and beyond, but come back to Blackheath Vets for all the clinical or complicated cases; we have come to trust Alan's diagnosis and prescribed treatment as well as his approach to involving us in understanding different conditions and ailments. Unreservedly, 5 stars are the kind of care our cats receive so we are reciprocating in the rating. We would recommend them to families even if it involves a bit of travelling.
