H. S.Lovely staff, clean and friendly. Enjoyed the Christmas Market there and more recently donated some items. Although the shelter was closed it was easy to follow the instructions as to where to drop off the donations safely. Website is also updated regularly
H. M.Dogs! And cats! It's obvious they care about the wellbeing of the dogs because you can only see them if the dogs choose to go into their outside area and see you. They have a little shop too with some pet essentials.

L. G.Very caring shelter. We got a little Cairn, Trixie, aged about 6yrs for a friend who had her 11yrs. We took her on when friend was very ill and Trixie lasted another 4yrs with us despite being riddled with a/ritis, irregular heartbeat and terrible cough with bronchitis. She had a terrible temper but with that lot who wouldn't have? Just because the dogs have been put in here please don't write them off.

We have put together a parcel for the animals and the lady just came to the gate and told us to put in the donation room then walked away from us

We have came away very disheartend at not being acknowledge for our gift
Sadly we will not be doing next year as we are very disappointed
We know COVID has its has restrictions at the moment , but it costs nothing to be polite and thankful

M. M.If you want to rescue an animal at this time the help on the website is not what one expects. The time it takes is long and my problem with this site is that they do not let you know if you're unsuccessful. That means you are waiting for days before you realise you haven't got the animal you applied for.
G. S.Got our deaf white cat from here a few years ago ( Ice) now called "mad Eddie" who rules the river bank 100% safe and sound and away from cars or danger.
Staff were so kind and we are now going through the stages to adopt a friend for him as I write this .

N. S.Great place which is continuing to look after all the animals there through a time when they have limited ability to re-home them. However, I've been fortunate enough to be able to re-home a dog from there this year and couldn't speak highly enough of the staff and the service they provide. They really look after the animals in their care and the adopters of new pets excellently.

The staff were so friendly and helpful, we had some time to socialize with the kitten and make sure we were a good match.

A. A. G.Great as a sanctuary, obviously the animals are well looked after and dogs get exercise. I wanted to take a cat home to accompany my indoor cat but I was very condescendingly told that this was not allowed for very minute reason, I was disappointed and my hopes were up after absolutely falling in love and I think this policy should change as an indoor life can be very fulfilling for a cat especially when you pay them as much attention as we do.
M. A.After losing our cat of 20 years didn't want another cat...they break your heart. However after 2 years decided our house was missing out on something so we visited this shelter & homed our special little lady. Staff were amazing, great with the animals & very friendly..would recommend visiting. Little willow (used to be Cindy) is a tonic & best thing I ever did. Thank you keep up the great work :)
H. C.I use this cat and dog shelter for dog boarding. Staff are always friendly and professional. They make such a fuss of my dog even when he's boisterous. My dog is always happy to go back when taken, loves the attention the staff give him. Boarding rates are very reasonable.

i. m.Visited the shelter on two occasions, was very impressed by the dedication of the staff and how the animals responded to them with obvious affection and attachment. The staff were very helpful and pleasant, taking every care to ensure that the animals were well matched to their new homes and owners.They work very well together as a team , making each visit a positive experience.
P. M.Have only visited to drop off food/bedding donations, but staff appear to do a great job. Took home my rescue cat from a different shelter 15 years ago, sadly she recently passed away, but adopting her is one of the best things I've ever done. Keep up the good work :)

C. I.My husband and I adopted our cat from this shelter 2 weeks ago. She's a beautiful cat and it was touching to see the staff say goodbye to an animal which they had clearly loved and cared for. We found the staff to be very helpful and practical, even though they were really busy. Past reviewers have expressed frustration that they weren't able to adopt the animal they wanted, or that it wasn't easy to be given an animal- well, it shouldn't be easy! It's clear that the employees and volunteers here care about the lives of these animals, and are committed to finding them good homes that follow their guidelines. If you are vulgar enough to leave a profane review for an animal shelter which is clearly trying it's best and following sensible guidelines, then maybe you're not the kind of person who deserves an animal.
R. N.Visited in December 2020 to drop off a duvet and mattrass topper. Very friendly staff. Just follow the hygiene and one way route marked and drop things off. You can donate newspapers, duvets (not pillows or cushions), leads, food etc. Just check Facebook when the next donation day is.
J. C.A great place that clearly care about the animals they are sheltering. I adopted 2 beautiful cats and couldn't be happier. They conduct lifestyle checks to make sure the animals are going to suitable homes and that their personalities will suit the family. Their cats come fully vaccinated, microchipped, free health check at the local vets (including 1 month flea, tick and worming), and 1 months insurance.
If you're looking for a pet, I'd whole heartedly recommend paying a visit and I guarantee there's a loving animal waiting for you.

T.I came to the cat and dog shelter to adopt a cat or dog about January 2020 I found a beautiful cat named romeo I was willing to give him a fabulous home with a huge garden.on enquiring on reception hoping to talk privately as it was busy the man asked if I had grandkids which I said yes 12 7 and 6 .He then more or less said sorry no small kids with our cats and moved on to speak to someone else..it was disgusting and left me totally upset!!

We seen rabbits, kittens, cats, donkies, dogs, horses and hens. The staff were all lovely and helpful. We didn't see a dog we wanted today, but will be back soon.

D. C.I give 3 stars for the environment but I agree with the last post. Before we even filled out an application we were told no because we have a 4 year old child because the dog we wanted to adopt was boisterous (he was still a pup) so this is very much expected. As a dog owner I am well aware that puppies who have not been train properly can be boisterous but with a little training and time and effort that can be sorted. Having a child should not be a deciding factor when trying to give a dog a nice loving home instead of being stuck in that cage for months. If the dog showed signs of aggression ( which I asked and was told no) I could totally understand your decision but im unhappy that we were not even.considered even.though we absolutely fell in love with him. I wish this could of been a better outcome
F. M.After losing our much loved cat we came here to rehome cats or kittens. We now have two lovely 4 month old sisters . The staff were all excellent and we could see the cats were well looked after and cared for . They do ask a lot of questions but this is for the benefit of the pets and so good that spaying and chipping are part of the service.

j.I visit this shelter a lot as my two black labs stay in their kennels whenever I'm away. It's obvious to me that these people REALLY DO CARE about animals - otherwise I wouldn't leave my dogs there 4/5 times every year.

s. r.We got a rescue 🐈 from here September 2016. They wouldn't let us take her until we could prove our resident cat had been vaccinated! She'd had a difficult time when she was younger but now she's well settled and a bit of a pest sometimes,but wouldn't swap her for anything!
