We would like to thank everyone at Summerdale Vets, everytime we go the staff are really friendly, courteous, and helpful. They always go the extra mile to help and all our pets love them. Thank you so much for all you do fir us, we really appreciate it. We want to thank everyone who was there with us yesterday as we had to say a final goodbye to our furbaby Mylo, everyone was so helpful and kept us fully informed of everything. Mylo is now at peace with no more pain. THANK YOU all for your patience and helping us through a very difficult and heartbreaking time 💔.

Found this guy on the road after being hit by a car. I suspected broken bones but it turned out to be fatal so he was put to sleep. 😔 I've saved a lot of animals over the years & this is the only vet ive come across that actually puts the animals well being before getting paid. I really cannot fault the care my elderly dog Honey has received from the staff at Summerhill. They are all so helpful and nothing is too much trouble for them. Took our 2 dogs today for a check up, seen a vet named Danial. What a fantastic vet credit to the veterinary industry and to Summerhill. Not only did he listen to our concerns but took the time to explain everything to us in full. Bern going to Summerhill and other practices in the chain for years and Daniel was fantastic. If you are a pet owner and an animal lover then I cannot tell you how amazing the team in Newport were when our beloved Weimaraner had a seizure in the middle of the night. Ross, the on duty vet, held our hand over 24 hours of worry and tears and gave our Dragon the very best care and attention at the end of his life. Ross was outstanding, taking time to listen and explain, whilst we had to make the very worst decision. He was there at the end and you can see that he and the nurses truly love the animals in their care. We could not have asked for a kinder, more compassionate team to look after our Dragon and support us. We are heartbroken.

Would like to thank summerhill for helping us as a family in the peaceful passing of our family dog. The vet came to the car (despite the rain and getting wet outside) eased Roxie and let her sleep peacefully in the arms of me and my brother. Changed here from budget Vets back in 2012 due to it being closer to my house. The only criticism I have is the service from Belinda the receptionist. She was very rude in her manner and left me waiting in the rain when she said she would come and call me to pay. This is the last type of customer service a distressed pet owner needs so I would recommend re training your staff on basic skills.

I'd like to say a massive thanks to Bethan, Amita & Toni for their help and professionalism over the last 4 months, I brought my dog in with what i thought was a sprain, Bethan checked her over, noticed a heart murmur and got us booked to have a heart scan for her within the week (very lucky) we then had an x ray on her leg to find out she'd basically torn a ligament and Amita who done the Lateral Suture Surgery was so helpful! Even when i called to check up on her (she had to be there all day) everyone was great and let me know how well she was doing! We seen Amita for a few follow up appointments and she was so helpful with everything and within around 4 weeks Tinks was like a completely different dog - so happy and feeling like herself again! Toni helped so much by dealing with our insurers directly (Legal and General) i was updated regularly. 12 weeks on and my dog is back to her usual playful self, thank you so much for answering my questions, helping me make the decisions of which surgery to have for her and reassuring me throughout the process! I cannot praise the staff enough . I have recently visited a number of times with my cat buddy and each time I’ve received a caring professional service . The pre op diagnostics were second to non , they really wanted to ensure we covered every possible risk before his surgery recommending heart and liver scans along with full bloods after all he is a 16 year old cat with a small heart murmur. The reception staff were very sympathetic to our situation and always provided me with a same day quick appointment , the vets really did have buddy’s welfare at heart. He’s now making a good recovery and it’s lovely to see him back to his old self , eating everything in sight and circling the dinning table like a shark at meal times and no longer in pain. It was a very worrying time. Thank you to all the staff at Summerhill you have given my cat his quality of life back.

My wife and I brought in a injured wild bird a few weeks back. The surgery pretty easy to find but parking may be difficult during busy times of the day. Staff are helpful and understanding. They were able to give the injured bird the care it required, which unfortunately meant euthanasia. Staff were courteous and sensitive when explaining why this was the best course of action. We were grateful for their help.

I phoned in morning, was given an afternoon appointment. Rang when we arrived someone came out and collected the dog. He was returned along with medication after examination and test. The waiting area had ample space to social distance as well as some seating area's. Payment is by card as expected.

Unfortunately we had to have our beautiful dog put to sleep, and the vets, nurses and reception staff where all amazing in such a heartbreaking moment for us, they where nothing short of caring, professional and empathic. The vet even came to find me at reception to ask if I wanted our dogs paw prints made! Very touching. I read a previous review that says the practice is money orientated, I completly disagree, yes we where made aware of the costs however I believe this to be good practice, you need to know what your going to expect, but it certainly didn't get the impression they just wanted our money. Can't recommend highly enough. The level of care, compassion and customer service is second to none. For an extremely busy emergency vets they go above and beyond the call of duty. I brought my dog Harry here for TTA surgery and he recovered perfectly. Very clean practice, and professional staff. Expect to wait if you're taking your pet for a routine check up as emergencies are dealt with first... and rightly so. Highly recommend

Very helpful. Had problems with our cat for a very long time. After the injections given by the vet, the cat started healing and came back to normal after about 2-3 weeks. She is a very happy cat now and wants to play all the time, unlike before. Maybe not the cheapest but you pay for the service. Will definitely be using in the future.

We brought our Jack Russell pup, Pickle in for an emergency appointment after being attacked by a border collie running loose off the lead. The staff were very helpful, kind and compassionate. From the reception staff to the vet, they looked after us and made a very worrying time much easier to deal with and we cannot thank them enough. Thank you from Lee, Sam and Pickle ❤️

My cat had FIP and these saw her through from the start to the end. Vets are mostly young and from my experience they were inexperienced. This led to the wrong blood tests being requested which led to a weeks delay in her treatment. The final result was the same however I wonder if this delay caused an early death. They drained her stomach in the first week which it turns out it also takes a lot of essential proteins. She went in with a large tummy and came out a shell of what she was due to being drained. On the day she died we took her to vets as she was fitting and vacant. We called before hand and when arrived were treated respectively. Placed into a consulting room stressed out and desperately upset over losing a friend all the vet wanted to discuss was what we wanted to do after. He was trying to sell us cremation on different levels. After few moments I asked if we could put our cat of of her pain, he then went to get the necessary returning a few minutes later but my cat had died in my arms. This is probably the vets first experience and it showed. It is not about money but it cost me £2k for her treatment and there appeared to be no senior vet monitoring their decisions. All staff were lovely I only regret not receiving a more experienced vet. We were led to believe that they will drain her tummy when required so I took her on my way to work at 05:30 for this to be done and a vet working nights refused saying if he did it will remove her proteins which made sense to me after he said this. I wish I had seen him all the way through. I understand she was going to die anyhow however with an experienced vet we would have had better Decisions made which could have made our cat more comfortable in her final days. I am grateful for their compassion but will not be returning with any of my remaining cats.

I have to say I loved the place, but since they have sold out to some big conglomerate they leave a git to be desired. They seemed quite happy to let my dog die unless they got the cost of the life saving ooeration up front. Not happy as having been a client since there opening the business.

We were unfortunate enough to have a feral pigeon with a damaged wing in our garden. Local vets were not interested in helping. Summerhill were happy to help and appeared really caring theoughout the phone call and during the visit. Would not hesitate to recommend or use again.

Place has gone down hill rapidly,full of foreign vets who have not long qualified,e mail address that doesn't seem to work,charged extortionate prices,we recently had to have our cat put to sleep due to her failing kidneys, even before the vet,who's overall said summer wood,had given her the injection she rushed of and came back with literature about caskets, just goes to show all this firm is interested in is money,we asked for our cats paw print to be done,this has not been done. One of the worst things to happen was Jean Morris selling out to a large company who have many different practices all named summer, they get your money then no sooner are you gone it's next mug please,we were quoted different prices from different foreign vets at summer hill Newport,my advice is if you haven't loads and I mean loads of money then shop around, one vet we seen could hardly string a complete sentence together in English so what chance have people understanding the vet ?? Nothing against foreign vets but ensure they have plenty of years practice and are able to speak English fluently then people can understand what they are saying.

My elderly mother in laws dog needed her teeth extracted and I had been quoted 700 plus from other vets. I rang here and the receptionist quited me 400 pounds tops. I booked her to see the vet in the morning and to stay and have the operation. We didnt have to wait long and spoke to the vet but she said Becky hadn't been booked in for the op and they were too busy. I explained that I'd booked it to be done that day as I'd booked the day off. She said she would see what she could do. She left us and returned to tell us that Becky could have the op. We picked Becky up that evening and the bill was 350 to my in laws delight. The staff are lovely and I can't fault this vetinery practise other than I'd love to get a feather duster and dust the webs on the ceiling. It's very reasonably priced for now...as the vet told me prices will be raised to compete with other practises which is dissapointing. I was considering mving my dog here as its more affordable. Highly recommended though. Thanks to the vet for a good job done.

I have just returned home from a post- operative check up with my dog, Benji.It is only the 2nd time I have seen the vet, that performed the operation. Her name is Jo and yet again Summerhill has got another very kind,efficent thoughtful and understanding, and very re- assuring vet. I have been a client of this practice for 50 years, and shared many of my loved dogs with them and grown up with the original founder of this practise, the wonderful and amazing Jean Morris. I would also like to mention my other regular vets Leyla and Monty.

I had to take my dog to the vet on saturday (emergency) he had high temperature I called the vet we were registered at the time and they asked for £70 just to see him as it's saturday and they charge double. That's when we called summerhill - they charged me normal price, gave him antibiotig and he was feeling ok after an hour. I always had to take a sick pigeon they didn't ask any questions just took him .. they are the best vet we've been with.

Summerhill were brilliant when my sister's cat was taken there after being hit by a car. The older female vet was so apologetic that she had to put the cat down. She even did a post mortem to make sure that she made the right choice for him. If this veterinary surgery was closer to my home, I would absolutely use them.

Very professional...saved my cat's life... Pdsa didn't want to know unless they had £200 upfront. absolutely disgusting then told me on the phone my cat would probably die before I got there.. Summerhill charged me £150 to wire his jaw. stitching plus all the meds even gave me a carrier to take him home... Would recommend to all.

I could have my pet treated under the free pet scheme down Cardiff, but I choose SummerHill as they make me feel comfortable with either a check up or leaving my beloved friend for an Op. Jean Morris is an extraordinary force of nature, but since the practise was sold out to a large corporation, the prices have shot up and I voted with my feet. I hate the ethos of arm twisting owners to vaccinate every year, when it isn't necessary, and for encouraging spaying and castration at a far too early an age.

I had a lab who was sick .we were very worried about him ..we are registered at whitchurch rd cardiff dr Doolittle....but every time we got to have an xray we have to go all the way up to newport to do so as they dont have the facility's there .humm When we got to newport we where told straight away that an xray and some fluids would cost 800 pounds ..say what...so we had no choice ..I stated we didnt have the funds there and then as pay day was a few days away ..anyway the good points .nice friendly staff and my dog was much better ...but in the end a 1000 pounds for the treatment he was in and out in 24 hours ... I feel that you need to have more options on how people can pay for the treatment ..for those who cant afford the costs you charge and to ask for the half upfront also ..I was later told we where totally ripped off as other vets would have been far cheaper .plus the travelling up there ..think you really need to look at how much you charge and have a heart on those people who love there animals but havent the money to do so straight upfront ....maybe payment plans with a deposit...not get them to get a loan out to cover the cost putting them in more debt .... Not everyone can afford insurance cover so you need to have other options ..rather than force people into a corner under there emotional place at that time ..this is just a sales tactic on your behalf ... But otherwise you do have a good team and lovely staff ..but you are way to expensive.....

After 3 unsatisfactory visits to another vet, which failed to resolve the problem of my cat's abcess, Summerhill were brilliant. They adressed the issue immediately, operated on my cat and the abcess, which had been there for 6 months, was gone. Their care meant there was no infection and my cat, who had the abcess when I recued him from the RSPCA, was able to begin a much happier phase of his life.
