H. W.We visited last week to adopt a sow to go with our other sows. We were introduced to a lovely little guinea pig that we loved instantly.
Sharon kindly cut my other guinea pig nails and we had a chat about guinea pigs in general.
We were able to see the rescue with all the other piggies in - it was fabulous and they are obviously well looked after.
The next day, I visited the vet with Maple (as I had with my other piggies, not for a negative reason) for a check over. The vet said she was a healthy little piggy and they all commented how lovely she was.
This is my first time to a rescue, and I will definitely visit again.

I. A.Following sudden bereavement of an adored neutered boar piggy, l was left with a sad, grieving older sow. I phoned Avalon and Shaz asked me to come straight over with Daisy. First introduction not successful, but a six week old baby was an ideal match. I have adopted from Avalon before, and the commitment to caring and rehoming is second to none. Shaz is a lovely person, kind, dedicated, and so hard working. Please don't buy guinea pigs from pet shops or breeders, support Rescues like this. Thanks so much Avalon.

A. L.This is a fantastic guinea pig rescue and they are looked after so well. Our guinea fell ill and needed medication just as we were going on holiday and Sharon was more than happy to board him for the week and look after him until we got back. We also ended up picking another pig while were there. I couldn't recommend this place enough and they deserve every donation. Two very happy little pigs!

Update: Sadly our piggies crossed over the rainbow bridge, but we now have a couple of new boys we have adopted. They were carefully selected for compatibility and they get on really well (they do have their moments, but doesn't when living together!)
Update 2: one of our adoptees had a stroke, that sent him for his long sleep. To avoid his chum becoming lonely Avalon has found the perfect new roomie who after less than a day together happily share a hidey together

What an extremely lovely and friendly place. My new baby is settling in well and the communication from the rescue has been excellent. The guinea pigs are clearly cared for so well at Avalon. Holiday boarding is so useful too, last time I went away my guinea took ill whilst there and was nursed back to health free of charge until well enough to come home. Exceptional service!
D. E.Avalon provides a much needed service for guinea pigs that are unwanted,abused especially by overbreeding and poorly cared for. Obviously there are also piggies that need rehoming for other reasons other than the above. No guinea pig is turned away and they are all treated with love and care. Avalon has been operating for many years with exceptional knowledge of the care needed to give guinea pigs the life they deserve.

j. p.Shaz who owns and runs Avalon Guinea pig rescue in Nottingham works all hours, tirelessly taking in, rescuing and rehabilitating as many unwanted Guinea pigs as she possibly can, as well as working full time!
These poor pigs that need her help end up in such a bad state because of the ignorance and indifference of their 'owners'.
They buy them on a whim and don't take care of them properly, neglecting them which results in sick and malnourished Guinea pigs.
Thank goodness there are people like shaz in the world to pick up the pieces and make them well again and find them proper loving homes.
The pet Guineas I've had from the rescue over the years have always been in tip top health
I highly recommend you go to this rescue if you are looking to give a pig a home or alternatively if you need to rehome yours for any reason, you will find shaz always willing to help... without judgement.
Running a rescue is costly and to keep Avalon running, it relies on the kindness of people and the donations of money, food and bedding that supporters give.

Shaz was so helpful and informative she help me bond all the girls. She also helped with finding a guinea pig knowledge vet who have been fantastic. Highly recommend Avalon shaz give the best care to the pigs. I have personally seen the rescue and her piggies, the home they have and the care they receive from shaz is second to none. When we have dropped off food to support shaz i have seen how well the pigs ar cared for.

J. J.Avalon do a great service by taking in unwanted and rescued piggies. Some they need to keep as they can't be rehomed but those that can are lovingly cared for and the obvious depth of knowledge that Shaz has built in her many years of running the rescue shows and reassures. I have been twice now with a single piggy that needed pairing and Shaz has supervised the introduction superbly! I can't fault them especially as it's a non profit organisation run by a lady in her own time while she also works a main job!

P. W.I have had a number of guinea pigs from Avalon and have always found that Shaz Kelly offers a first service. She is always available if there are any questions or if advice is needed. The guinea pigs she rescues are gorgeous and are used to being handled and are a delight to own. Avalon also offers a piggy bonding service which is an excellent idea The guinea pigs have a full health check up so you know that you will be adopting a healthy pet. I have no hesitation in recommending Avalon.

It's soul destroying to see their disappointment when they try so hard to please people, when they lose pigs they've fought so hard to heal. 1 star reviews are unfair, you try working two jobs, keeping rescues fed, clean, medical needs seen to and respond to emails, etc!

The rescue is well thought out, the piggies are very well cared for and Shaz and her volunteers do a great job looking after them all. B. B.It was with much sadness that I had to rehome my two female guinea pigs. Looking on Google, Avalon guinea pig rescue poped up. I rang them and the wonderful owner answered and offered my girls a place. When we arrived , the owner couldn't have been nicer. I couldn't believe how clean all the guinea pigs and their housing was. I felt much calmer leaving my girls , and knew they were going to be looked after.
So please, if you are looking for a pet pig, please go to this lady.

They are not that expensive. They are well handled and friendly. I would recommend the rescue to anyone looking for some guinea pigs. :)
R. H.Amazing people looking after some animals who have had a terrible start. Have known the rescue for several years now and have rehomed many piggies from them. Shaz extremely knowledgable and I know I can always contact her if I have any questions. It is a shame that some individuals simply want to cause trouble for someone who spends all of their time looking after hundreds of sick and mistreated animals. There are bound to be animals that have underlying health issues simply because of their backgrounds. When you go to a rescue you have to accept this. Avalon do not have a crystal ball. None of us do. However, I know Avalon will gladly take any animals back to their rescue if individuals don’t feel they can cope. Please keep up the good work Avalon - those furries are counting on you!

H. E.Sarah p you are talking a load of waffle, she would never do what you are saying as she is one rescue that is a brilliant one, no other person has ever had a problem like you are saying. I don't even think a vet would check for mites un less the pig had a bear patch. She is a 5 star rescue and loves every single one till she finds a loving home for them. If you're guinea pig had a problem she would have advised you to take her to a vet, may be you kept the new pig in an un sheltered area and she got a chill or the new food. So many things can happen to piggies in such a short Time, Shaz keep going you do a fantastic job and I would always use you again. Thank you

I have rehomed many piggies from her all are rehomed in excellent health and condition. She is extremely helpful with advice on any issues with your piggies and is also able to look after them while you are on holiday or can help with grooming them. A really wonderful rescue who deserves a lot more recognition and help than it currently gets! 1000000% recommend this rescue!
S. L.I contacted Avalon guinea pig rescue after becoming aware of 2 guinea pigs in need of help (a mum and her little baby son) as the mum was in a bad way. Shaz was more than happy to take them in so I collected them yesterday, they stopped at my house over night and I took them to Avalon today. I became quite attached to them overnight but because I have 7 already i knew I couldn't keep them. I am so happy I took them to Avalon because as soon as I met Shaz i could see it was clear how much she adores these gorgeous little animals. I am so happy that the piggies will finally get all the love, care and attention they deserve. And hopefully when they are better, will find their loving forever homes. Plus I got to meet the beautiful poons who happens to be the most gorgeous guinea pig on the planet!

D. S.Having adopted a couple of Guinea Pigs from Avalon, I've seen 1st hand the sterling work put in by Shaz Kelly (often helped by a few other members who also give up their free time). You are always made to feel welcome and Shaz's knowledge is up to speed on health care, diet etc for the Guineas. Shaz does all this work out of the goodness of her heart and undying love for the Guineas in her care.
Avalon is not charity registered and relies upon donations from adoptions and via their web page.
There is a saying "Opt to Adopt" which is true, there are so many animals (of various breeds, shapes and forms) simply waiting for loving homes.
Rescues like Avalon, (along with Shelters and RSPCA centers), should ALWAYS be your 1st port of call when looking for a pet, don't pay over-inflated prices breeders ask, let's 'price them out of the market' by getting your pet from one of the above places, purebreds don't live as long as the 'Heinz 57' variety and you get more love in return!
