I went to Birmingham Pilates studio with an ongoing back problem brought about by scoliosis. The detailed and thorough exercises and the care and attention led to a dramatic improvement in my posture, wellbeing and strength. The studios are welcoming, friendly and the sessions are huge fun as well as being beneficial to health and wellbeing. Miguel is passionate about Pilates in its pure form, and so the sessions are also educational, and encouraged me to think about my posture and adjusting my movements to strengthen my body and my breath. I would strongly recommend Birmingham Pilates Studio.

I have just finished my first six sessions with Miguel and I am 100% a convert to pilates (and Miguel!). I came looking for help following a year of debilitating sciatica and having to give up the strength training that I loved. I was initially worried that pilates would not push me enough or be enough of a challenge - but I couldn't have been more wrong. I come out of every session feeling that I have pushed my body and my mind to their limits that day and I'm discovering muscles that I forgot I had. The sessions are run at a pace to suit you and Miguel is super-patient and explains everything beautifully simply. I leave each session feeling satisfied that I have pushed myself, with lots to take home and practice, and most importantly - pain free. The whole experience really has been a revelation and I can't wait to continue my pilates journey. Give it a go - you won't regret it (the studio is lovely too!!).

I was struggling with a back injury and googling seemed to suggest that pilates was a good choice for dealing with back pain. I had to stop running and it looked like long term, running would make my back pain worse. Birmingham Pilates Studios came up on a search and seemed highly rated so I booked in feeling I had nothing to lose. I have accidentally stumbled on a hidden gem of Birmingham. Miguel is a fantastic Pilates teacher who is able to personalise the exercises for you. My back pain has gone and I'm back running. I can honestly say this is one of the best investments I’ve made - in myself, my body and my journey to fully appreciating Pilates. Miguel is so approachable, he really listens to what you what to achieve for yourself and pushes you each lesson to learn new routines; apparatus and also the connection Pilates makes through your whole person. I am thoroughly enjoying my time during both the one and one sessions, alongside the group sessions which really help you hone in on what you’ve learned and also gain inspiration and friendship from fellow learners. Initially I was nervous as a larger person pursuing something which I knew would be challenging - but it’s not only changing my body and my strength (which was super important to me) but also my confidence and my mind set. If you’re thinking about coming - I would urge you to just do it and book that first lesson! You will not be disappointed :)

I attended classes with Miguel a few times a week while I was acting on a UK Theatre tour in Birmingham (easy 15min walk from the New Alexandra Theatre) and loved them! He was very patient and understanding and catered each lesson to my specific needs. I felt he really took the time to understand what my body needed and how far I could go. He is very positive but also really encourages you to challenge yourself, so you leave feeling you've achieved a lot! Would highly recommend and will definitely return if ever in Birmingham again. I came to Miguel knowing literally noting about Pilates other than it might help strengthen my core a bit! I had hip surgery earlier in the year so thought this might help. After just one lesson Miguel made me realise that Pilates is so so much more than anything most people understand. It is a hugely challenging experience that, if you are willing and ready, will keep on challenging and gifting you for the rest of your life, no matter what age or ability you happen to be. Miguel opened my eyes to this amazing world with is enthusiasm, knowledge and patience and he will open your eyes too, helping you get where you want to go, however far that may be. He is a wonderful teacher, and for me, his classes and the whole world of Pilates has been life changing stuff.

Miguel is an excellent dedicated Pilates teacher. I have just finished my 5 starter 1-2-1 lessons and enjoyed it so much that I have now joined the Group sessions. I love it here! It is an exceptionally nice studio. Airy, clean and reasonably spacious - it has a really nice feeling to it. Just walking in makes you feel both energised and relaxed. Miguel is supportive and knowledgeable about Pilates.The emphasis placed on working with your personal issues and the detailed instruction is the best. Classes are always different so Miguel keeps it interesting. If you are feeling like you need a good stretch, to relax or ease sore muscles, this is the best solution to both. The class made me think more about my posture all day. I definitely feel better daily and seem to walk taller ! Ines

Had my first Pilates lesson via Zoom today and what a revelation. Miguel could see everything I did clearly and corrected me if my posture or position was not right. His instructions were very clear and concise and in fact it felt like I worked harder at home than in the studio. I would recommend this way of teaching and it means you can continue your Pilates journey from anywhere which is amazing.

Miguel is one of a kind! Whatever level of experience, Miguel has exercises and equipment to suit, whether it be his reformer beds or perhaps even the wunder chairs! I believe clients can be at ease with Miguel's way of teaching, breaking exercises down and/or explaining the reasons behind the exercises if required or interested. Miguel shows passion in his teaching and will definitely help you achieve any goals in mind at the pace you wish to practise at. I finished this morning my first pilates session with Miguel by skype. I was extremely impressed how efficient it was. I am 67 and not at all fit. I really would not fancy going to a mainstream gym but I am in my fourth week of going to Birmingham Pilates. I like going - the Zellig Building is an interesting place and the sessions are stretching, literally, but are a good experience. Miguel is safe and reassuring and keeps adding variety to our sessions. After today's set of exercises, my shoulders felt better than for 20 years and that prompted me to give this review.

Within a month I was climbing the stairs without breathing heavily , within three mo the everyone kept saying how well I looked and that I’d lost weight , within six months I kept being told I had never looked better with bright eyes and glowing skin. Had I had Botox ? Had a had surgery or found some super food? No I had found Miguel and reformer Pilates . It has transformed my life . Pilates one on one classes are essential to my mental and physical well being . Miguel alters the combination of exercises and equipment as the sessions flow . Starting Pilates was one of the best decision i have ever made and i am very glad that I started with Miguel. We focus on areas i need to work on and i can see progress and even some more definition on my body I've never seen before. This is always very enjoyable sessions and i feel much more relaxed afterwards.

I took the free taster session due to suffering with lower back problems, and on being advised reformer sessions would be best to help build core strength before moving to mat pilates. I found Miguel to be very personable and passionate, with an interest in really trying to understand my posture and core strength abilities, whilst showing me the equipment in the studio so I could really experience the Reformers in practice and understand how further sessions might be useful. I'm booked in for 4 more lessons and I'm sure I'll re post further reviews to let you know how it's going.

The thing that first took me to Birmingham Pilates Studio was a prolonged period of lower back pain caused I thought by excessive gardening. While this probably didn't help, I now realise that the real problem was my 'core' and the lack of stability and strength thereof. I attended a free trial and assessment with Miguel and knew straight away I had come to the right place. He immediately reassured me that I would be working on building stability and strength in this key area which would underpin every other physical aspect of mobility and well-being. I have completed five classes (one on one) and already I can feel that I am getting stronger but more importantly, I can locate in my minds-eye the muscles Miguel is helping me to activate. While I am a long way from being proficient in the excercises, I have utmost confidence in Miguel's expertise and my decision to attend BPS. I am looking forward to my next five sessions with optimism as I feel I am at last doing something positive for my health and well-being. I would recommend anyone of any age or ability to give this a go. You won't regret it!

I've been coming to see Miguel for a couple of months now for strength and rehab after years of neglected injuries. I have thoracic outlet syndrome - a frustrating catch-all term for 'rubbish shoulders that squash your nerves and veins'! Pilates helps me restart the conversation with all those little muscles in my back and shoulders that have been forgotten over the years/ never knew I had in the first place (!), and begin to correct the wrongs. I am now walking and sitting taller each week and feeling stronger all the time. Miguel's classes have even given me the strength to get back on the climbing wall after many years absence and I look forward to many more months of learning :-)

I have injured my knee through running and need to get it strengthened. I was told pilates would be good for this, so I booked myself into Birmingham Pilates Studios for a one on one free trial to asses my needs. Miguel greeted me and took me to the studio where he asked me some questions on why I was looking for a pilates class and what I wanted out of it. He assessed my posture and gave me some exercises to try. He also took me through some exercises on the equipment while explaining the areas being worked on. I found Miguel very professional and knowledgeable. As a result I am now looking at booking the best course of sessions to help me. The studio is compact, but great for small groups and one to one sessions and is situated in the funky Custard Factory buildings.

I started Pilates 8 Months ago because my balance was bad and I frequently tripped over any uneven ground. I also had neck & shoulder pain. Now my pain has gone. My balance is good & my walking has improved. I highly recommend my Instructor Miguel, who is kind & patient.
