I'm so glad I attended Janet's yoga classes and Active Birth Workshop before my first birth. They gave me so much information, calm and confidence, and really contributed to me having a great, positive birth experience.
The yoga classes (via zoom) were very relaxing and introduced various positions for birth which I ended up using during labour with great results. I really looked forward to them each week.
The workshop was extremely helpful too and covered the physiology of birth and practical exercises for mother and the birth partner. They made me and my partner feel much more informed, confident and positive about the upcoming birth, and meant that we had a great birth experience using what we learned. I highly recommend Janet's classes to anyone wanting to prepare well for birth.

As a midwife and fourth time mother, I cannot emphasise enough how wonderful Pregnancy Yoga was with Janet, and how much it helped me during my labour and birth.
Even with years of experience as a midwife, being trained as a yoga teacher, and having birthed three previous times, I looked forward immensely to her weekly Zoom classes. The movements practiced in class become intuitive in labour, as Janet had mentioned often during class.
I think people who discover her courses in a first pregnancy are extremely fortunate. I look forward to further learning with Active Birth online teacher training in early 2023. Thank you so much Janet x

I have only the best things to say about Janet and her active birth and yoga classes. So many of the techniques and sage advice that she has shared with us have been so helpful in helping my husband and I feel prepared for the labour and delivery of our little babe. I have particularly LOVED learning the affirmations and we have already started saying them when we talk to the baby.
I’ve also used them to help me navigate stressful moments or when I’m worrying about baby’s movements and they have helped me to stay centred and calm. I can’t wait to put it all into practice when I go into labour!!

It was a really informative online course in a friendly and welcoming environment. The founder Janet is a childbirth pioneer in this way of thinking about pregnancy and labor that has gone back to a more nature inspired way that also infuses Hypnobirthing. I find her teaching empowering, uplifting, informative, and encouraging. She helped to alleviate my fear of birth and I ended up having a positive birth experience with a very healthy baby boy. Highly recommended!

The Mama and Me Nurture training with Lynn was wonderful! The experience was real and the insights about the mothers and baby’s needs were great! Meeting the other mothers and birth workers gave me a great encouragement for my own work! Lynn is very knowledgeable patient and loving with her wealth of information from years of experience! The course was well structured over the 3 weeks with material provided as great resources! I am looking forward to add what I have learned it i my workshops.
Thanks xxx

I couldn't recommend this hypnobirthing course enough. Janet was so generous with her knowledge and wisdom without being prescriptive about what birthing should be. The course empowered myself and my husband and we felt confident and calm approaching our daughters birth. Covid restrictions in hospital threw a few curve balls at us and it was through the hypnobirthing techniques that Janet had taught us that I was able to remain calm and feel at ease, especially when unexpected complications arose. I am so pleased we did this course, as well as Janet's yoga classes which were wonderful at making me feel connected to my body and baby. Janet is a beacon of knowledge and is so happy to share and offer extra support - we are very grateful for her expertise and guidance.

I am very grateful to Janet for the Active Birth workshop that I attended. I can speak for my partner as well in sharing that we both enjoyed it very much and left feeling relieved, energised, inspired and excited about the journey ahead. I appreciated not only all of the content but also Janet’s approach and way of communicating everything - it felt very grounded and comforting! Both my partner and I very much enjoyed the practices as well. I felt a sense of relief in having the experiential practice and I appreciated the way that Janet explained and explored the role of the birth partner. I would also like to share that I was happily surprised at how well the online format worked as well. I was (prior to the workshop) a little ambivalent about 6 hours on Zoom for something so embodied but felt that it worked brilliantly and, as Janet suggested, found it very useful to practice within the home environment.

The Hypnobirthing course has been a real eye opener for my partner and I. It’s definitely helped us feel more confident and relaxed about the whole process, whereas before it was a source of anxiety and stress. Janet explains everything in a warm and wise way, and has taught us a new way to think about the pregnancy and birth experience, so thank you!!!

Attended Janet’s yoga classes throughout pregnancy and loved them! Her advice and guidance also became super helpful during labour; highly recommended!

Janet's classes are fantastic, I did them throughout my pregnancy and really enjoyed turning up every week (albeit online) and the sense of comfort and continuity it provided me during my pregnancy (these things were really important to me during the pandemic). I've never really enjoyed yoga before - I always found it quite competitive and assumed I had to be really flexible to be good at it. But Janet's classes are completely different - she really encourages you to tune into and work with your own body. I loved the way they helped me connect with my body and my baby during pregnancy. I also remember how relaxed I felt during and after the classes because of the meditations she includes. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone.

As a pregnancy yoga teacher myself, I only started doing Janet's zoom pregnancy yoga classes towards the end of my pregnancy once I had finished my own teaching. I was looking for a new class which I could learn from but still switch off in and turn off my own "teaching" brain. I instantly fell in love with Janet's classes on zoom and was quickly attending twice a week and learning more and more each week. The classes became my sanctuary each week - closing my bedroom door and having 90 mins to myself to unwind and relax in my own space. Pure bliss! Janet taught me brilliant new breathing techniques and I also found my body moving into positions we practised each week during the birth without even thinking - muscle memory is amazing! Thank you lockdown for allowing me to access Janet's classes online from Brighton and thank you Janet for bringing me so much joy at the end of my pregnancy and help in the birth!

I highly recommend the pregnancy yoga classes with Janet and her course on Hypnobirthing for Active Birth. My husband and I found this knowledge and practice sessions essential to have a beautiful pool birth where we were calm and enjoy every part of it. We'll always cherish these memories as first-time parents and we couldn't have been able to do it without Janet, Jill and the amazing team at the Active Birth Centre. Thanks for playing such a key supportive role for women/parents during pregnancy, childbirth and postnatal. Eternally grateful!

Janet is an amazing active birth and pregnancy yoga teacher. She goes beyond her role as a teacher and makes everyone in her classes feel at ease. We also attended her couples yoga class and my husband loved it; it definitely helps birth partners feel relaxed and better prepared for labour. We did attend other antenatal classes but they were all about theory, pain relief and complications. Janet’s classes are empowering and focus on helping you feel positive and confident about labour and birth. She is a pioneer in pregnancy yoga and antenatal preparation and I highly recommend her classes.

I went to Janet's pregnancy yoga classes for the last few months of my pregnancy and I can't recommend them enough. They were a great way to relax and stretch, keep the body active, but also to meet other pregnant women and learn a lot from Janet and Lola about our bodies and about childbirth. I found the positions, and breathing techniques we did in class were great tools that I used during my labour to make it a really positive experience.

Edited after second session: My husband and I attended the Active Birth course in January 2020. We both agreed that it was one of the most useful antenatal classes we took - as it gave you all you need to feel confident in birth. We found that Janet was a wealth of knowledge and not judgemental about different birth oaths. We really appreciated getting to work together through positions, breathing and support for labour. We took a Hypnobirthing course some where else and preferred what we learned here. We had taken a pregnancy couples yoga, which would be good as a supplement to the main Active Birth workshop but for recommend if you had to choose one, opt for the full day together.

My partner and I joined Janets "Active Birth Course" last weekend and absolutely loved it. Both of us felt so empowered afterwards, what an amazing day.
We also loved it over zoom (which I never thought I'd say!) as it meant we were able to work out our space ready for birth, which has been so helpful.
Thank you for so much insightful wisdom that we're excited about taking forward with confidence!
I can also highly recommend Janets weekly yoga classes which marry so well with the Active Birth Course and reiterate beautifully her ethos of empowering women, keeping active and believing in your body and baby to birth confidently.
Thank you for your contribution to our babys journey!

I recently did the Active Birth for Hypnobirthing weekend course with Janet and Jill. I can't recommend this course highly enough. The knowledge that is shared on the course is so empowering- an offering to remember our own feminine wisdom and power to birth our babies with ease. I feel so much more able to trust my body and my baby to take this journey. I'm so grateful for the insights that where shared into our natural hormones as women, the choices we have during birth and so many wonderful exercises and tips to make birth as easy as possible. Janet and Jill bring such wonderful energy into the space. I loved everything about this course!!! Would say it is a must for anyone about to go on the journey to parenthood.

Janet’s Yoga class and active birth course are wonderful. The Yoga keeps me feeling great throughout my pregnancy, if I miss a class I immediately feel it with random aches and pains. It is truly my favourite time of the week. Her approach to birth is life changing. I feel fortunate to be able to learn so much from her. Thank you.

The Active Birth Centre has been my sanctuary throughout my pregnancy. Janet's yoga classes are amazing - she is the authority on yoga for pregnancy and Active Birth - and the Hypnobirthing course was better than I could have ever imagined. My husband and I left feeling calm, confident, empowered and truly excited about our labour and birth. I would recommend everything they do at the Active Birth Centre to any expectant women and parents.

I have been going regularly to pregnancy yoga at Active Birth centre since week 20 and also participated in the excellent Hypnobirthing weekend. Janet and her team have helped me greatly to remain calm over incidences during my pregnancy. I always feel I have more space in the body for the growing baby after the yoga classes. Through exploring different positions for birth and learning about natural pain relief during the class, I have now changed my perception from fearing childbirth to looking forward to the occasion. Thank you very much for your help!

I cannot recommend the Active Birth Centre enough. I took practically all available antenatal courses available and believe they contributed hugely to the beautiful home birth I experienced. The pregnancy yoga classes provide a safe and calm space that offer a huge relief to all the little pregnancy niggles and also offer a gentle introduction to preparing for birth. I also found that the relaxed environment helped me relax fully and acted as a weekly reminder to chill out and enjoy pregnancy. Lynn’s Preparing for Life with your New Baby course is equally amazing, as it offers the perfect amount of information to feel ready and at ease without feeling overloaded. Lynn does a beautiful job at encouraging you to use your instincts, particularly for the early hours and days with your new arrival. Janet’s Active- and Hypnobirthing course is also the perfect preparation for a natural birth. I felt empowered, prepared and excited for birth following the course.

I thought my first positive active birth experience *could* have been a fluke but the Active Birth book by Janet Balaskas is my bible. I’ve just had my second more than positive active birth experience, following a c section, so a VBAC. It was another joyful experience thanks to Janet and her research and techniques.
I will Janet’s praises to anyone who will listen.
Janet -
I can’t thank you enough for opening my eyes to the female anatomy, understanding my body and the miracle it performs and sailing through all the stages of labour with a smile.
I am forever indebted to you! I want to do it all over again!

I gave birth to my first (and only) child at home thanks to the confidence that attending the Birth Centre and Janet's classes gave me. Janet was careful not to push any opinions on us. In my experience - she gives you the facts and empowers you to understand that birth is a natural process and to trust that your body knows what to do. A bit like eating - you don't digest by thinking about it - it's uncontrollable - your body does it naturally. I wish more women understood this and felt less worried about giving birth - as worry causes our body to tighten - the opposite of what we need when trying to deliver a baby when the best thing you can do it relax ... breathe and let it happen. Janet explained the workings of the body really clearly and I loved it when women in the classes came back to share their birth experiences - that was really, really helpful. Like I say, I gave birth at home with no problems whatsoever - it was painful of course but because I was in my own space in a birthing pool (for 12 hours) I could relax and enjoy the incredible sensation of peace and ecstasy created by my hormones in between contractions. Janet's breathing exercises got me through those contractions and I had no pain relief whatsoever. It was a life changing spiritual experience. What struck me was that the senior NHS midwife who attended my birth told me if I'd been in hospital I'd have had a c-section, for sure, that she'd seen this so many times when natural birth is interfered with. In the UK under 2% of women give birth at home - I think that's a terrible shame. I also recommend the birthing pools that are on hire via the Active Birth Centre - having seen other pools which are more like children's paddling pools apart from the words 'Birth Pool' written on them - they actually hamper the experience as the shape doesn't support the woman and a lot of time is spent mopping up the floor! The birthing pool I got came high enough over my bump to give me relief - plus the sides were strong enough to support me. In short, I can't speak highly enough of Janet and would recommend anyone to attend her classes.

I really enjoyed Janet and Lola's pregnancy yoga class. I was really uncomfortable in my own body before this class and have been since I was a teenager and it has taught me so much about how to relax, how to sleep, how to be comfortable and have better posture. Even if I don't use any of it for the birth, I'm really happy to have been to these classes. I don't jump if someone touches my shoulders anymore which makes having a massage much more relaxing :) I am also thinking carefully about how to get the baby in to a good position for birth which is really good to feel in control of the situation.

Cannot recommend the Active Birth Centre highly enough - my partner and I did the active birth workshop with Janet Balaskis before our baby was born, and it was a brilliant practical help for us during labour, and gave my partner confidence to help me through it. I then went on to do the New Baby and Me class with Lynn Murphy, and then two runs of the Mama and Me follow on class. I was feeling really vulnerable when I first attended, when my baby was just 6 weeks old. She was a reflux baby so even leaving the house felt like a huge thing, but Lynn's class was a little oasis of safety and calm during this time. It was a lifeline meeting other mums and Lynn provided us all with a nurturing and non-judgmental space. Her gentle approach and advice allowed me to learn to trust my instincts and gave me the permission I needed to parent in the way that I wanted to. I made some really good friends on the course too who I've kept in touch with. The combination of baby massage, yoga, and advice from outside professionals on weaning, nappies, and self-care, was exactly what I needed to help build my confidence and my strength, and Lynn really provides a holistic approach to mind and body. The classes are very small and personal and Lynn really made a huge effort to get to know everyone individually as well as providing additional resources and support. I was really sad to leave in the last class as it felt like family having seen our little ones grow from 6 weeks to 6 months. It really was a very special place which I'm so thankful to have had, and I can't recommend the classes highly enough to new mums. Thank you Lynn!

Janet’s active birth workshop is excellent and left both me and my partner feeling excited and very positive about the upcoming birth of our baby. It worked well on Zoom and was great to be able to do the workshop from the comfort of our home.

I went to Lynn's pregnancy yoga throughout my second and third trimesters. I found it so helpful, she's a very experienced and inspiring teacher. I went into labour with calmness and confidence. I also attended her Baby & Me class once my baby son arrived, this was a lifeline to me in the overwhelming early months, it was a calm, supportive, space to explore early motherhood amongst other women with similar aged babies and I have made friends with some of the mums so the support continues.

Feeling overwhelmed and knackered as you do as a new mum, I somehow found my way to the Post-natal mum and baby courses at ABC... from my very first interaction with Lynn, I knew I was "safe"... more importantly I knew that my six week baby was in good hands (literally - Lynn held my baby whilst I dashed off to the loo!!!). In the end I did 3 blocks of the course - because I found the sense of peace and freedom there so enticing. I also have made what I consider life-long friends from attending the courses.
Lynn has an amazing attitude to motherhood and she was both reassuring and informative. I really cannot thank her enough.
In hindsight it would have been great had I also done the pre-natal yoga - but I just did not get my act together in time.

Great course. It was really informative, had a good variety of ways to learn and practice techniques and see information. It was very comfortable and a warm and friendly environment. I also do Pregnancy Yoga here and the founder Janet and her partners and teachers are pioneers and experts in this way of thinking about pregnancy and labor that has gone back to a more natural and nature inspired way. I find their teaching empowering, uplifting and a totally positive and encouraging way to look at pregnancy and labor. Highly recommend. This course isnt cheap, but it seems to be the going price and you get some really good handouts and a book as well. Well worth it!

I absolutely love the active birth yoga classes, they make me feel great and also feel very mentally prepared for labour.
The active birth workshop is a MUST do for all pregnant people and their partners.
Thank you Janet!

I was so glad to have been recommended this place. I am expecting twins so my pregnancy has been a lot more medicalised than some others, so it has been particularly lovely to be able to come to a class that is just about being in touch with your body, babies and connecting with other women. Janet and Lola are both incredibly supportive and a great wealth of knowledge- they were both very accommodating and able to help me understand a bit more about which exercises I might find trickier due to carrying two babies. Would highly recommend to anyone.

The Active Birth centre was a life line for me in the early days with my new baby. Lynn Murphy was incredible at holding the space for all the new Mothers and babies. We had time to just be together, to meet new friends, to stretch, sleep, chat and even learn to massage our babies. From 6-12 weeks old, this really was the best morning of my week in those hazy postpartum months.

I definitely recommend Janet's amazing prenatal yoga classes! Janet really helped me to to prepare my mind and body for birth, and the classes helped to give me strength for the rest of the week! Tammy Kruger

My partner and I attended a very informative and well-paced Active Birth online 1 day workshop taught by Janet Balaskas in June this year. The class gave us a lot of confidence and practical tools to practice in the months ahead. Thanks Janet!

We attended the Life with your New Baby workshop with Lynn Murphy and really loved it. What Lynn taught us made so much sense and made us feel more confident about parenting. The way the day was broken up between discussion and teaching helped us absorb a lot of information without feeling overwhelmed. Throughout the session we were given a bag of practical tools and a reminder of what is most important to hold onto, and I felt a cloud of worry lift off my shoulders about all the unknowns.

Wonderful, informative and empowering. Janet is a leading authority on this stuff and the facility is calm and bright. Highly recommended.
We came away exhausted but looking forward to the birth and much less anxious. (And the bean bags and the tea are excellent!) Thankyou!

The Active Birth Centre is absolutely lovely, a comfortable and relaxing environment for all courses and activities and run by a group of kind-heart, highly skilled and knowledgable individuals who do everything they can to help you and make you feel welcome. I would recommend this place to absolutely anyone no matter the course or class they are interested in doing here!

We had a lovely day with Lynn who made us feel comfortable and excited about parenting - there were no prescriptive how-to’s so we left feeling empowered with a good set of tools while knowing flexibility is important too. Would highly recommend!

Wonderful experience of yoga classes and active birth workshop here with Janet, and a positive and calm birthing experience thanks to all that I learned and practised. Very highly recommended.
