Reviews of Plantation Villa at Ruxton Farm

My first Yoga retreat. Beautiful surrounding in old reconditioned farm house and barns.
Yoga sessions start 7.am prompt. Followed by 1hr mediation. There are various sessions throughout the day. I would recommend.
But, very cold rooms and menu slightly limited.

This was my first ever yoga retreat and I was understandably nervous about making a choice amongst all providers, as I was worried about being scammed, having recently been stung by a scammer. Up until I arrived I was praying that the place would be there - and it was. I wasn't sure what to expect and was very pleasantly surprised. The retreat is run by lovely people and has only opened a few months ago, so I can see it growing in popularity as it provides an excellent service and an opportunity to relax and recharge your batteries. They are located in the most beautiful surroundings, so not only will I be going back to the retreat but will be booking a short break in the Wye River Valley to explore its beauty. The retreat can be what you want it to be. If you are looking for solitude, you will be left alone and there is plenty of time to enjoy your own company. They have quiet and comfortable places to sit with a book and an extensive spiritual library which would probably take me a few years to read. There is long beautiful walks around so you will easily meet your 10,000-step target. If you want to meet new friends, that, too, will happen. I was lucky enough to be there together with some wonderful women who were very friendly, so I didn't even read 10 pages from my book, as I chose their company more often than my own. The owners and the resident staff of this place follow the Ayurvedic that I had never heard of, so I was curious to learn about it. They are Buddhists, which was also new to me. I was lucky enough to witness their collective prayer and listen to a talk about Buddhism which enriched my soul and gave me a lot to think about and take home. Their food is vegan, gluten and sugar free and there is a strict schedule that you may find odd at first but it is worth going along. The food is absolutely scrumptious and portions are generous. The yoga teacher is lovely and is also trained as a counselor so if you need someone to talk to, she is there to listen and help. Her yoga classes are great and although I never thought I would do yoga first thing in the morning, I found that doing it at 8am actually did me the world of good! She teaches different flows in the morning and the evening, and does not repeat them, keeping it varied. The yoga sessions and mediations are twice a day. Meditations are simple and classical. I couldn't have enjoyed my stay more - actually I could have if I'd stayed longer, as I found that it took me 3 full days to relax. I was honoured to meet the founder Ishara De Silva who is an absolutely beautiful soul and an amazing generous person. Talking to her and to the monk they work with from Sri Lanka was extremely interesting and life changing for me. I will definitely be back and am so grateful to all the staff for their friendship and support. Oh, I must not forget their amazing massages - heavenly!

This was my second visit to Plantation villa. I was warmly greeted, like an old friend by Panchali. I wasn't sure if my second visit would be quite as enjoyable …. it most certainly was.
The yoga and mediation was great , so restorative. I had a massage and steam bath in the new spa room , it was wonderfully relaxing. The bonus was hearing Monk form Sri Lanka on Zoom, what a wonderful wise man.
Planation is a wonderfully peaceful , relaxing and simple place to spend some time and restore the mind.

What an amazing place. This perfect bubble saw me through my first Christmas without my children and the friendliness, gentle encouragement, relaxation, inspiration, nourishment and attention were incredible. I felt comfortable from the moment I arrived. Special mention to Lara who took us through our yoga and meditation classes and always seemed to be on hand to help. Meeting the rest of the team, including the Monk, was a privilege. I loved the gentle yoga approach, the amazing cooking, the right amount of structure and free time, and the spiritual inspiration which was also offered gently and as an option. I’ll be back. Keep doing what you do Plantation Villa. 💚

So pleased to find this brand new, hidden gem of a place...off the beaten track and in a stunning peaceful part of the world! The staff had come over from Sri Lanka and only opened the doors in June 2022! Everyone is so kind and welcoming. The food was delicious.....and just the right amount! The yoga really helped me to feel 'back in my body'! The roaring woodburner was as cosy as cosy can be. The massage was SO good that I had to have another before I left! I spent hours idling around gorgeous leafy country lanes watching salmon leap in the river, wild geese fly over head and sitting outside the most stunning little church! Highlights included sharing photographs with Panchali, meeting incredibly interesting guests from all walks of life, chanting in the converted air raid shelter one evening, listening to Ishara explain about Buddhism and meeting 'the monk' via Zoom!! I left feeling lighter and brighter - reset, recharged, and raring to go. Don't hesitate to book!

I had a wonderful 3 days at Plantation Villa at Ruxton Farm, from the time I got there I felt very looked after, the twice a day yoga and meditation sessions, delicious vegetarian Ayurvedic cooking, lovely staff especially Panchali the manager and Lara the yoga teacher, there was a Ayurvedic cooking class and an insightful and profound talk and counselling sessions from the resident Buddhist monk translated by the owner herself Ishara. The rooms were lovely and warm and cosy and so was the living room with its log burner. A shame the Ayurveda therapist was away on Xmas hols but I’ll be back in the new year to stay and have some treatments! I feel like I have had the time I needed to rest, reflect and reset! It was so nice also to bond with the other guests 🙏🏽Thank you Plantation Villa!

Plantation Villa, is a hidden jem! From the moment I walked in, it felt so warm and friendly with so much good energy and love around the whole building. The daily routine is amazing, with Yoga and mindfulness classes by a incredible lady called Zara - she was so insightful and made me feel very comfortable as I'm only a beginner. The food was really nice, and alot of tasty spices... I also had a massage followed by a salt bath, which was a very enjoyable experience for me! I found this retreat very grounding, and it was just what I needed to give me some space and time to find myself in world full of such chaos and busy lifestyle! Thank you all 🙏🏼

Beautiful retreat with lovely, caring people. When they found out, it was my birthday they quickly decorated the dining room with beautiful cut out plants and colour papers. It looked beautiful!!!
They also baked me the most amazing carrot cake for all of us for breakfast !!
I recommend the place, the massages and the new wooden steam machine. The food is also excellent, all vegan and delicious.

An amazingly, peaceful place with beautiful surroundings. The staff are respectful and caring. Loved the yoga classes and the grounding meditations. The meals were delicious and filling. I found the cookery classes were very interesting as they showed me how to use correct spices and how this affects the body.
I will be visiting again for a longer break.
Thank you 🙏

Brand new retreat where you can experience as much or as little as you wish with yoga, meditation, talks, cuisine and excellent staff and accommodation.

A lovely place with welcoming people. Enter the Plantation Villa with an open mind and you will not be disappointed.
I am no new to yoga but to be brought back to basics by Lara made me realise how much I missed guided practice. I very much enjoyed the meditation too. I valued the time we were able to spend talking to The Monk. Life lesson learned. I look forward to attending their short open door events too.
Following previous reviews, food is plant based so I know some may find it not overly filling. But the quality is superb!

What can I say, other than I absolutely loved my stay at the Hereford location of Plantation Villa
Thank you so much for making my stay feel so special.
It was my first time at any retreat, but I can assure you it won’t be my last at Plantation Villa
From the consultation with the Ayurvedic Doctor which wasn’t rushed, to the gorgeous 1-hour massage that I fell asleep during…I felt like my body, mind and needs were properly catered for.
Prior to arrival I stressed to the staff how important it was that I didn’t have any gluten, animal milk or processed sugar as I have allergies and intolerances. Not once were there any issues during my stay. Normally at any resort or hotel I stay at this is a constant problem.
The food was amazing, and despite the evening meal being small, (as it was advised prior to my getting there), it was still wholesome and tasty.
I managed to attend all the yoga and mindfulness sessions despite being a beginner and convincing myself that I wouldn’t attend the morning sessions. I even went out for a walk in the Hereford countryside with other guests which I didn’t think I would do
Coincidentally on that weekend, all the guests were female, and so we nattered, advised each other, and listened during what should have been our reflection time. The owner of the retreat, also sat with us in the evening and took us through mindful meditation before bedtime.
At no point did I feel uncomfortable and in fact already decided after my first evening there, that I wanted to return.
I’m super glad that I chose to go to a retreat instead of a spa. I was looking for quiet time, relaxation, and space to myself in beautiful natural surroundings, and this is what I got.
A big thank you to all the staff that helped this weekend feel special. I have nothing but love and gratitude for making my stay perfect.
It’s a shame they couldn’t control the typical English weather though…but hey…you can’t have it all!

A beautiful nurturing space with generous warm hearted people. Enjoyed meeting other guests and the insights into Ayurvedic concept. Plus the most wonderful birthday cake I think I have ever tasted.

An excellent retreat; incredibly calming, peaceful environment. Staff are excellent and the sessions are brilliant. Worth noting that nothing is pushed on you!
Couldn't recommend more highly

Ruxton Farm is beautiful in so many ways…as is the peaceful, idyllic Herefordshire setting. Room was comfortable, attractive and warm at Christmas. The Ayurvedic food was yummy and satisfying. You’ll be nourished and cherished physically, emotionally and spiritually and your best self is likely to emerge. The small thing of a fixed routine makes a big difference. The effort made to incorporate elements of an Ayurvedic lifestyle into one’s “back in the world” routine is immensely rewarding.
Wonderful, mixed level yoga sessions. Lara’s talent for bringing out your best yogic self is amazing and invaluable. Panchalli will ensure you have all you need before you know you need it and inspire you with her artistic creativity. Chris adds a calm, wise assurance. After a life changing recovery Ishara has generously chosen to share the regenerating, life enhancing experience at Plantation Villa retreat with those who reach out for it…I’m grateful to have been one such. Any observation about Monk would be inadequate…lovingkindness and infinitude

Tranquility, fresh air, open spaces, clean and very nicely decorated property with comfortable beds and homely peaceful vibe with delicious healthy freshly cooked Ayurvedic food! What else could you ask for! Well there’s also Daily Yoga, meditation, activities, and access to pamper treatments, Ayurvedic doctor and a Buddhist monk! I certainly had an eventful and insightful 4 days but at my own pace and it was good to be able to jump in and out of the daily timetable at my leisure. Amazing surroundings and only a short walk away from the river! I walked away feeling pampered, relaxed and the much needed clarity I was looking for. I Loved the break and sincerely appreciated the service! It was eventful, peaceful and insightful!! Thank you Ishara, Laura, Panchali and the rest of the guys for the support and service! 🙏🏽

Had a wonderful, peaceful 3 days at this retreat in the middle of September. The setting of Ruxton farm is beautiful - very close to the River Wye , so it was very easy to enjoy tranquil walks by the river from the farm. The property itself is newly renovated to a hogh standard and I had a very comfortable room which opened out onto the garden and field beyond. The yoga classes were pitched at a good level for those practicing at a beginners/intermediate level. Regular meditation classess (x2 per day) were very calming. All the food is freshly prepared and very tasty. I was lucky enough to attend a talk by the senior Buddhist Monk from a centre in Hertfordshire which made the visit extra special. I would definately recommend and will be going again myself next year.

I spent a transformative 6 days at Plantation Villa, UK in August. I arrived hoping to be taken care of and to hand over the reins for a few days, to spend some time away from "real life" to recuperate after a painful breakup. I left a more empowered and peaceful person, having learnt so much self-care and new ideas to make positive changes to my life.
The villa set up is very much a home from home, Pancharli, Ishara, Bernardo and the family are so welcoming, knowledgeable, and calming. I was lucky enough to attend several of the monk's discussions and the very rare occasion of an all-night chant house blessing, which touched my heart and was incredibly powerful to witness. Bernado's yoga classes, meditation and health and nutrition discussions were inspiring. He has a wonderful sense of humour and puts you at ease, no matter how up-tight you are feeling. I also indulged in an oil massage which was very intuitive and nourishing.
I loved every ayurvedic meal we had, the portion sizes and meal timings took about 24 hours for my body to adjust to, but after that, I rarely felt hungry.
The location is serene, the river was wonderful for a swim to cool off in, there are many paths to run or walk but most days I just chilled on a blanket under a huge oak tree on the farm.
I was lucky enough to make genuine connections with like-minded souls who were staying around about the same time. The villa is based on an ethos of respect and kindness, and this flows both ways between guests and the family. It truly is a special place which has had an impact on my life. This is not a holiday, it's a life upgrade, if you come with an open mind and an open heart.

This places combines everything you want/need out of a retreat - yoga, meditation, healing Ayurvedic foods, surrounded by nature and a deep reflection of oneself. You can sense that Ishara has put her heart and soul into this place and it shows. Every meal was different throughout my 7 day stay and was light on the tummy, tasty to the tongue, good for the soul and prepared with love. Yoga and meditation sessions were Lara varied in themes, grounding and brought us back to the present moment. She was also a lovely person to be around. The daily talks from the monk was inspiring and eye opening. The one-to-one monk session was all the more special and covered what we truly need. Panchali who organises everything in the farm was friendly, funny and made everything flow well. I was beaming when I walked out of this place as it overflowed with love, kindness and a calming energy.

Just had a brilliant week at The Byre on Ruxton Farm. The cottage was first class. Emma and Steve were friendly and on hand to ensure everything was perfect. The location is very peaceful and has good access to all the places of interest.
