I have been having massage therapy with James Hurst at Ten St James since the beginning of the year & have found his treatments invaluable. I run around 1500 miles a year so staying injury-free is very important to me. James has helped me maintain full fitness this year. The best thing about his treatments is that they aren’t the old-school sports massages that really hurt, he gets great results without the agony!

I’d been searching for a good sports massage therapist for about two years and finally discovered James Hurst when I also found Ten Health - St James's Studio for reformer Pilates. James is brilliant; both in pinpointing issues, addressing them in sessions and then also giving follow up exercises where necessary. I’m reticent to say this, should it mean it’s harder to get an appointment in the future, but without doubt the best sports massage therapist I’ve seen for a long time.

I went to see James at TEN Health because of chronic calf tightness and plantar fasciitis developed from running. James was exceptional as a Massage Therapist in both provide relief to my symptoms through muscle therapy, but also in providing advice. James shared useful excercises and also recommended physio treatment. The combination of which has all led to me being able to run again. I will continue to visit James through my future training plans and would recommend him to anyone looking for a Massage Therapist.

I have done 3 sports massage sessions at Ten Fitness St James studio with James Hurst. I was impressed by James' knowledge and skills from the start. I have a lumbar scoliosis and tight shoulder and neck from working at my desk all day. James listened to my concerns carefully and take the time to find out what is causing the muscle tightness. He also gave me some exercises to do at home which really helped. I would highly recommend Ten fitness and James to anyone who is thinking of getting a sports massage.

After a number of relatively unsuccessful visits to Physio’s around London I decided that it would be better to try Massage at TEN Health & Fitness, St James's Studio. After only a small number of visits, one issue had cleared up almost completely and there was a marked improvement in general mobility and flexibility. I can only put this down to my masseuse James Hurst and his identification and resolution of the issues – a mixture of assisted stretching and massage. He has a good sense of humour, is clear and concise in his explanations and above all, has the ability to identify and resolve the issues presented. Thanks for all of your help!

I saw James Hurst at TEN Health & Fitness, St James's Studio for deep tissue massage following a back injury. It was one of the best massage treatments I've had (and I've had a lot!). James was very thoughtful and thorough despite the short appointment, suggesting what might be the underlying causes for my pain and giving me some ongoing exercises which could help prevent another injury. I've already recommended him to several friends!

Classes are small, which allows trainers to tailor classes to clients needs. They are all experts, they understand how the body moves, wont make you do countless reps but will help you hone your technique, build strength and learn how to do more complex sequences. It covers all fitness needs, plus physio and massage, which I find critical to helping me with mobility and historic injuries (thanks Gurdev)! I've also learnt that simple/slight adjustments can resolve shoulder issues i've had for years, and enable me greater extension and flexibility which i didn't think was possible.
Front desk staff are helpful and friendly - nothing is too much to ask, and it feels like a community.

I went to see James initially because of stress-induced neck pain ... his treatment has helped me enormously and every time I see him, I feel physical relief. But it's more than that. Ten is a facility with great quality classes, even thought not all of the instructors are completely caring towards the clients. A shout out goes to the outstanding instructor Zoe Cornwall with whom I’ve had the most beneficial class for my injury. She is incredibly knowledgeable but most of all she was caring of my problem and constantly came to me to help me make the most out of every posture, and support me through all the exercises. She’s the kind of instructor you wanna work with. She does her job with heart and charisma, and that’s the perfect mix. Keep up the great job Zoe!I can’t wait to practice with you again.

I’ve suffered with very tight hip-flexors for a while now and booked an appointment with James Hurst at TEN Health & Fitness, St James's Studio. He was immediately able to diagnose the problem – he has a very impressive knowledge of the musculoskeletal system – and work on the problem areas in a careful and controlled manner, whilst also taking the time to explain the techniques. After my treatment(s), I have enjoyed a lot more freedom of movement which is great. Highly highly recommended professional sports massage therapy.

Andrew I is a magician! I run, cycle and swim all the time but my work is based in the office. I developed back pain and after first 5min of examination Andrew (physio) knew exactly what I do wrong. He gave me good advices and adjusted my whole body. Andrew is full of knowledge and his positive approach makes the whole visit very pleasant. I really like Ten, lots of classes, some really great instructors. Carol & Danilo are my favourites- they work you really hard and take time to correct and adjust your movements. Their instructions are super clear.
Ten have some great facilities- showers,
toiletries etc. However they really, reallt could do with updating the decor (the green carpets look and feel
old) and when you look closely at the machines & carpet you see how much the place needs a good hoover. It just does not feel very hygienic... I also wish they could bring a socks only policy as they seem to do in other studios. The St James studio has good spacing between the reformers so the person next to you does not bump into you. Fitzrovia is another story, however.

James has a wide range of techniques, skills and knowledge that he applies to your situation ensuring the therapy is tailored to your needs rather than a cookie-cutter treatment, I would highly recommend him.

Having suffered a major back injury last year I was encouraged to give reformer pilates a go by my rehab team, and so far my experience with Ten has being nothing short of fantastic! Class sizes are intentionally limited to no more than 10 people, which allows for a fantastic level of instruction, correction and individualisation.
Even as former rugby player (who is probably double the size of some of the other participants!) I've never felt out of place, and enjoy the deceptively challenging workouts. Thanks team!

Fantastic studio and instructors. Booked a last minute class through classpass and attended a class with Zoe. Found her to be super friendly, incredibly knowledgeable and attentive. She corrected wrong form instantly and provided modifications according to everyone's injuries/weaknesses. Very friendly staff at the reception and great facilities overall. Ten have created a little haven in the middle of Mayfair offering a range of classes from TRX to Barre to Reformer Pilates. I love the Reformer classes as you work every muscle super hard but the pace is not frantic, (I find really really fast, intense exercise stressful) and the session still targets all your muscles intensely in a deep and satisfying way with visible results. Ten's instructors are very thoughtful, going round the class first to ask if there is anything in particular the students would like to work on today and then adjust the class accordingly. Modifications are given and the instructors are very attentive to any injuries or incorrect alignment. The studio itself is clean, sleek and modern with lush rainforest showers, complimentary use of big fluffy towels (no limit!) and gorgeous REN products to use and deodorant. There are two hairdryers ad two pairs of GHD straighteners available in the changing room too. There are no lockers, but you are able to take your belongings into the class, the Reformer studio is spacious and well air conditioned.
All in all I'd say this is one studio who have definitely gotten everything right! It's a pleasure to be able to visit and work out under the expert guide of the Ten team.
