I absolutely love David's classes. He is extremely experienced with an amazing wealth of knowledge of the whole practice of yoga. I love that the class I attend always incorporates pranayama and meditation as well as the physical practice. I've really noticed my all aspects of my practice improve. I have been to India a couple of times to study yoga and David's class is the closest thing I've found to that style of yoga. David's passion for yoga always comes through in the class and there is a always some fun and laughter in every session! I would highly recommend David to anyone looking for a yoga class at any level of experience as David has classes to suit everyone.

My 1st introduction to Yoga was via one of David Atkinson’s classes and straight away he put me at easy among other more experienced class members. David has a very inclusive way of teaching people of all levels and is able to included great breathing and meditation techniques into his classes. Several years later I have continued to attend his classes and also a couple of his Yoga retreats held in Same y Ling monastery in Scotland. I would thoroughly recommend his retreats too as there is more time to experience a wide range of meditation and yoga practice in a beautiful relaxing environment. Overall I find David a wonderful teacher and I am so grateful to how Yoga makes me feel!

David is a fantastic Hatha Yoga instructor. Each lesson is extremely well-organized and never repetitive, incorporating a wide range of postures, breathing exercises and meditation techniques. For the more challenging postures, David always suggests a number of variations that are easier for less experienced students to follow, thereby ensuring that everyone benefits fully from the practice. I cannot recommend David’s classes highly enough!

David’s retreats cover posture practice, breath work, thai massage and meditation, interwoven with a generous dose of yoga philosophy & history. David has a unique ability to illuminate a holistic view of yoga practice, without sacrificing the depth of experiential learning for his students.

I've been to several different yoga classes over the years and David's is the best by far. I've now been going for about 3 years and plan on staying. It is both relaxing and challenging - David introduces variations to postures so you can choose whatever level you are comfortable with. Every class is different, with an emphasis on different areas or techniques - it's never repetitive or boring. Everything is explained and demonstrated, so you can't get lost, and the pace is just right. David is extremely knowledgeable, and you feel that you are in very safe hands. There are extra workshops and retreats that you can join if you wish. It is a friendly, relaxed and highly professional class.

I have been taking classes with David for over three years. In my view, David is a brilliant teacher. He is vastly experienced and hugely knowledgeable. As you would expect, he is also calm and patient! His classes are designed to challenge you but at the same time everyone is encouraged to go at his or her own pace. David brings some top teachers to Newcastle and runs some great weekend courses of his own. If you want to experience the real deal, then I can’t recommend David’s classes enough.

I have been going to David’s classes for about four years, starting on a six week beginner course. The classes are attended by all ages, shapes and sizes and everyone is friendly. Variations on postures are always shown and gentle suggestions are made when limbs don’t quite go where they should. David’s knowledge is vast but subtly imparted and I always come away from the class, glad that I went, feeling relaxed and stretched. He is, I feel, a gentle soul with a lovely laugh and I would recommend his classes to anyone.

I've been going to David's classes for many years now and would highly recommend them to anyone. I've been to various classes within the city, but David's is my first choice.
I really like the variety that David brings to his classes, every one is different and provides a nice mixture of breath work and postures. He caters for all abilities and is great at helping you to develop your practice.

His teaching is very similar to the traditional Indian style of yoga and there are classes to match every skill level.
I have tried David's retreat weekend which was a brilliant intensive yoga weekend and attend his monthly Pranayama (breathing practice) sessions.
I can't imagine choosing another yoga teacher here in Newcastle!

David is a very knowledgable teacher with a great understanding of yoga practice. As a complete beginner he has taken me through to intermediate level and grown my confidence. He takes care not to allow us to hurt ourselves and doesn’t encourage us to push our bodies too hard, encouraging a slow, steady approach. I also like that he holds separate beginners classes so everyone is at a similar level. The classes are a good mix of gender and age and they are friendly and not competitive. I definitely recommend David’s classes, especially if you are a little unsure or a a complete novice.

David is an excellent and extremely patient teacher who has a particular talent for working with mixed ability classes. His holistic approach to yoga, encompassing breathing technique, meditation and posture work is totally un-intimidating for beginners and energising and relaxing in equal measures for seasoned practitioners.
I attend weekly classes with David and have also attended extended sessions and weekend retreats led by him. Each of these are well planned, thought provoking, creative and never "samey" or uninvolving. I leave every session with David, whether it be an hour, three or a weekend, feeling happier and mentally and physically healthier.

I have been attending David's classes for nearly 7 years now. He's a wonderful teacher with wealth of experience. He creates calm and kind atmosphere in the class, and is very much in tune with the energy and needs of the class participants. Good vibes all the way. The sessions are well balanced with posture and breathing work and are 1.5 hr long! which is fantastic (I often feel rushed in other studios where you have only 1 hr). Caters for every levels and no one feels left out. You can take it easy or go for more challenging posture work. Every time I go away with work to different cities and attend classes elsewhere I do miss David's classes and alway come back to them when back in Newcastle. Highly recommend! Namaste

I have been attending David’s class for a few years now, and I love it. The atmosphere is both chilled and focussed, which suits me just fine. Each session is unique, so it always feels fresh and I’m constantly learning. David encourages his students to develop at their own pace and to suit their body by offering variations for each posture and useful advice for how to practice at home. He brings a good humour the practice which makes you feel relaxed and not worried about falling over – we all do it!
I would also highly recommend the retreat David organises at Samye Ling. It’s perfect for anyone wanting to go a bit deeper into the practice.

The first time I tired David’s classes was probably about 9 or 10 years ago and to say he got me hooked was an understatement! I loved his easy going, humble teaching with a keen awareness on helping students progress with learning postures without pushing them into positions or being overly picky on posture position. His classes are relaxed, informed and fun.
I have also enjoyed the luxury of one to one sessions with David for sometime and that is when I came to understand the true extent of his knowledge and how he really lives what he teaches. A rare find indeed.
I have also benefited from several Thai Massage sessions which again were pitched just perfect, not too intense (as I requested) and David seems very aware and capable of working with concerns, injuries etc. He holds a wonderful space that you can leave feeling 10 inches taller and breathing much deeper.
A couple of years ago I managed to attend the Spring retreat at Samye Ling which I enjoyed so much I hope to attend this autumn again.
If you are looking for an authentic, relatable teacher and Thai Massage practitioner look no further. Highly recommend!

David Atkinson is an excellent yoga instructor. I can’t recommend his class enough.
It’s obvious that he teaches yoga for yoga’s sake, as opposed to any sort of “lifestyle experience,” and perfectly balances technical expertise & advice with lots of yoga history and background.
I find the classes extremely meditative as well as a good workout, and there are a lot of laughs along the way too. David is very professional but doesn’t take himself too seriously!
I always find he has an uncanny knack for giving just the right advice or cues at the right time, whether it’s posture work or guided meditation/body scan during shavasana.
A few years ago I would never have expected to consider myself a dedicated yogi, but I’m 100% convinced that it’s thanks to David I’ve stuck with it and look forward to continuing to do so.

I can highly recommend David's yoga class (and have already done so to several friends). I started yoga with his beginner course 3 years ago and still go regularly to his classes (the yoga retreat weekend is also great)! For me, it's the right mix of exercise, relaxation and breathing techniques. The other yogis in the classes are nice and relaxed with a good gender and age mix.

Yoga is not about asanas and it's not science also because yoga as no birth or death it existed before birth and also after death. Yoga does not mean human form trying to achieve something in return but something beyond human expectations.
