I've attended the post natal mum and baby Pilates class on Fridays for several months now and feel like it has helped my post natal recovery massively, particularly healing my core muscles. Imogen is a great teacher and takes care to observe and correct you as you do the exercises. It is also a lovely space to meet other mums and babies, often with a coffee and chat after!

Postnatal Pilates with Imogen has been amazing - a chance to get back into your body whilst your baby plays beside you. The classes are so friendly and inclusive (tailored to post natal needs) and babies are welcomed (and sometimes even incorporated into the exercises). I’ll miss this so much when I go back to work.

Lou and her YPP are a fantastic Pilates studio. I’ve attended for some time, following a surgery and also pre and post natal. As a physio myself I am extra critical. Lou is experienced with the complex and specific pre and post natal needs of women. The exercises and classes are targeted and effective, without unnecessary stress on the body.
I credit the classes for keeping me from pregnancy aches and pains, managing any niggles quickly, and feeling myself after birth.
And the classes are friendly, relaxed and a great way to meet people, especially as a new mum!

Great flexibility and range of class types and times. I started with lower back problems and haven't had any problems since. Imogen's classes are just the right level of demanding and she really pays attention to whether you are doing each exercise correctly. Wouldn't be without Pilates now!

I really enjoy Imogen's classes. She's a great teacher with clear instructions and she's careful to check that we're all doing the right thing. I joined YPP after several years at another pilates studio and am very happy that it's just as good! The flexible membership is an added perk.

The postnatal pilates really helped my recovery after having my daughter. I found the classes just the right level of challenge and there is a lovely friendly atmosphere too!

Ready for a New Year of pilates with York Pilates People! This will be my third year. I like the range of classes and times, currently using evening sessions to counteract the day's sitting at screens. All the teachers are attentive and keep an eye on us even on Zoom, modifying moves to accommodate the different degrees of flexibility (or otherwise!) that we are capable of.

YPP are amazing! They were recommended by a colleague, and after doing their 'Intro to Pilates' course I haven't missed a week. The teachers are very good, always providing modifications and helpful personalised feedback. After sitting all day at a desk, class really helps with any back pain I've built up.

Love, love, love Liz's 7.30am props class on a Friday morning! A chance to put my working week behind me and work through all the aches and niggles that sitting at a desk can bring. Get's me out of bed and sets me up for the day. Liz's patience and kindness when my small children also join me on screen and join in the exercises is really appreciated.

I've just done my first equipment class with Liz and thoroughly enjoyed it. We used resistance bands and she put together a lovely class that left me feeling nicely challenged and stretched in all the right places. Liz is very encouraging and friendly, and - as always with YPP classes - there are options for adapting exercises where necessary to accommodate different needs. The focus is on what is right for each individual. Looking forward to the next one - thanks Liz!

I've been coming along to Lou's intermediate classes regularly for about 18 months now, and that alone is testament to what a great Pilates teacher she is!
Before now, I had attended both small group and gym classes where class sizes ranged from 6 to 40, and I knew that, when I was recommended Pilates to help with a hip injury, I definitely wanted smaller group classes. Lou teaches in classes of a maximum of 10, meaning there is ample room for everyone in the studio but also, importantly, the capacity for individual attention where required or requested. If a particular exercise or movement isn't working right, she's quick to troubleshoot and suggest adaptations for tight muscles, loose joints, injuries... whatever the issue, she can help you to work around it. Lou also works with Liz and Maddie; I've never taken a class with Maddie simply due to class timings but Liz is also an excellent teacher. The classes are fun - always a laugh, especially with moves like "rolling like a ball". They're challenging, too, but in the right way!
Each week I leave class feeling that I've worked hard, feeling taller, stronger, but just as importantly relaxed! I feel like I glide home on my bike afterwards, with all the neck and back tension gone and my hip stronger than ever. I've never had good core or upper body strength, yet with Lou's classes I now find myself folding into shoulder stands - something I never thought I'd be able to do!
If you're looking for an effective and enjoyable Pilates class, it's right here!

Highly recommended- I’ve attended different classes with all 3 teachers and have enjoyed them all.
Very relaxed and friendly environment. New to Pilates 2 months ago and quite nervous about starting but I have been well looked after. You can work at your own pace in classes ...but you also feel like you’ve had a good work out. There has been a huge improvement in my back stiffness/soreness (from desk job) since I’ve been coming here.

I’ve been going to classes 2 or 3 times a week at YPP for quite a while now, both in the studio & on zoom. The classes, whilst challenging, are always enjoyable with modifications for different abilities. The teachers are all fabulous, I wouldn’t go anywhere else now!

Cannot recommend this studio enough. I joined around a year ago having tried a few different places but straight away this one felt like home. It's a lovely space and Lou is a fantastic teacher. Every class I have been to feels so welcoming and you never feel judged, even as a newbie, just supported. There are classes to suit most people's schedules (and even more now due to the transfer to video classes). I am currently pregnant and so have been attending the prenatal classes which are great too. It's good to meet other pregnant people and she offers postnatal classes which I am sure will be excellent as well. I've not had any of the expected pregnancy niggles like back ache and I'm sure it's down to these classes. Give it a go!

When I moved to York I was looking for a yoga class but couldn't find one that suited me, so thought I would try Pilates. The Pilates I had done before was boring and I never knew if I was doing it right but this is totally different. Lou is an amazing teacher who builds a narrative of movements through the class and she really clearly explains what you should be feeling in which part of your body, why, and how to make the movement easier/harder. There's also a really friendly atmosphere in the studio which makes it a relaxing experience.

I started Pilates after having a baby. I was hoping to get my strength back and prevent the previous back pain carrying my first child around had caused. A year on and I am stronger, my posture has improved, and I’ve had no back pain despite endlessly carrying a very heavy toddler around a three storey house.
The booking system allows for flexibility, and the city centre studio is welcoming and calm.
Lou is a great teacher who explains each move very clearly and somehow always knows exactly what you’re doing wrong and those little adjustments needed to put yourself right.

Can highly recommend YPP. I started almost a year ago and have really noticed a difference in strength and flexibility. Lou and her team go the extra mile to keep the classes fun, interesting and varied while still making the exercises very effective in a friendly and relaxing environment. The booking system is fair and flexible and offers a whole range of classes for all abilities and the studio is a pleasure to be in. Many thanks York Pilates People! Helen.

Good classes, lovely instructors, really enjoy pilates as a way to stay active and build strength/flexibility

All the teachers are brilliant and always encourage us to adapt the exercises to our ability without compromising the excellence. I love the classes and I’m able to follow classes above my level when I have to attend different ones due to work commitments.

Just brilliant. I hate all exercise classes but I've been consistently going to Lou's once or twice a week for 18 months, which is little short of a miracle. Classes are super friendly, welcoming, and not intimidating, but they're also a really good, rigorous workout. I hardly ever get back pain any more and feel more toned with loads better posture. Can't recommend highly enough. Great studio, great gang of people.

Liz's Rise & Shine class on a Friday morning has become the highlight of my week. Not only does it signal the end of week/beginning of weekend, it's just such a lovely way to wake up and start the day. Liz has a beautifully calm way of easing us through the exercises, even the some of the trickiest, and I now find I can do more than I thought I could! I couldn't recommend this class more highly.

Great classes and great teachers. Flexible membership. The 7.30am online class on Tuesday morning gets me out of bed and sets me up for the day! Thanks to everyone at YPP.

York Pilates People is a fantastic studio. Lou has a calm and clear way of teaching, tailoring levels to suit individuals, and creates a relaxed and fun atmosphere in which to exercise. She has put together a great team of other teachers, too. The online booking system is convenient and easy to use. I can’t recommend YPP highly enough.

Liz is a great Pilates teacher. I’ve been taught by her both in class (remember when that was a thing) and on Zoom.
She brings her enthusiasm and expertise to the class and provides clear guidance for all movements, demonstrating to start with and then watching and providing feedback to ensure we are getting the most from the class.

I love going to Pilates with Lou; so much so that I go to the early start sessions on a Tuesday. Now, I am not a morning person, particularly during the Winter season, but these sessions are too enjoyable to miss! Louise is super, and knows exactly when to challenge and/or support - an amazing teacher and a truly lovely person. Thanks Louise; you are doing a cracking job!

Having had a break from exercise for a while I was initially apprehensive but I am loving being back to doing Pilates. Lou is warm, friendly and encouraging, always ready to adjust the exercises to work for you and your body. I have already learnt a lot about which muscles I need to strengthen and am feeling the benefits. The studio is light and bright and a pleasure to be in.

My doctor recommended I start pilates to help with my lower back pain and I'm really happy I did. It's been about 2 months since I started at YPP and my back pain has decreased significantly. One of the most important things I've learned so far is how to stand properly and be conscious of my posture. It's made me realise how much unnecessary weight I might be putting on my back by having a bad posture or not engaging the right muscles.
The classes are always lovely and the space is friendly and cosy. It helps a lot that the classes are small and intimate so you don't feel like you're getting lost in the crowd. This makes it easier to express any questions you might have during the practice and the teachers can keep an eye on everyone and give you guidance.
A lovely experience overall! Highly recommended X

This class has been great for me. I used to struggle with shoulder pain brought on by hours in front of a computer. Within a few weeks of starting the class, I noticed a difference. I haven't reached for the Deep Heat in months! The class has helped with posture, flexibility and core strength. Louise is a fantastic teacher - she's encouraging and clear with her instructions. I leave her classes feeling rejuvenated.

I can’t recommend it enough. Group classes can be intimidating, but as soon as you arrive in Lou’s studio..You’re immediately put at ease & I’ve not once felt like an idiot for not being able to get it quite right or when I fall sideways off the balls & foam rollers. I go sporadically (definitely not enough) but I do use what she has taught me in my daily life, not just on the mat in leggings, which is what it’s all about right? Like checking my alignment when walking upstairs, carrying heavy items & popping corks off wine bottles 🍾 I now no longer unnecessarily put my back out & it’s great. Thanks Lou :)

I joined York Pilates People after my rhematologist recommended I try a pilates class to improve my joint health. I have hypermobility and at the time was suffering regular joint pain. I cannot express how much of an improvement these classes have made. I am a total convert. Being hypermobile, my flexibility has never been an issue but my joint stability has always previously been poor. Lou took into consideration my needs and made adaptations where needed. Lou's classes have helped to dramatically improve my joint stability and reduce my joint pain. I cannot praise these classes enough, especially if you have existing joint issues or hypermobility. The classes are welcoming and the studio has a lovely calming atmosphere. I have been really impressed.

I highly recommend York Pilates People. Lou is a great teacher and the studio is very well equipped. The studio is ideally located in town and the online booking system is so flexible. Thumbs up!!

I was a compete beginner in fitness. After 10 classes I'm far stronger, toned and flexible. Even when I get things wrong, Louise gently corrects me. I love coming here, and booking classes is easy.

Another great class with the lovely Liz! She really knows how to get the most out our hour long session, keep up the good work Liz!

A well lit studio and a great central location add to the excellent classes run by Lou. The monthly membership idea suits me well as I can timetable my sessions to suit my diary.

Louise runs a well-organized class in a warm, tranquil atmosphere. She really knows what she's doing and communicates really well.
