Reviews of Avoca Belfast

Had a really nice lunch in the upstairs cafe (it's a pity the restaurant bit hasn't reopened yet). We each had a salad; generous portions, fresh, tasty and well presented. Pleasant, friendly staff. Decent value. A great place for a bite to eat in the city centre 👍🙂
D. T.
I love the Avoca store, loads of lovely items throughout and delighted to see somewhere local stocking Pestle & Mortar products.
My chum and I ventured in to the cafe and were both impressed with our food. Food intolerances well catered for and absolutely delicious food .( By the way the fishcake is perfect. ) I'm looking forward to my next visit .
C. G.
Food was delicious but had to queue for 15 mins to get served. Still, the food was worth the wait. Would highly recommend for lunch. Always have a lovely shop to look round.

Gorgeous department store! Nice service, beautiful deli and fab cafe. A gorgeous place full of gorgeous things and worth going to Belfast for.

The line in the upstairs restaurant seemed a bit more than I had time for after I called in to use the loo (clean and passable if not quite notable.) I remembered having passed a take away section at the front door and decided coffee and cake would suffice for lunch. Cappuccino in 12oz take away cup was excellent. There were about 10 choices for cake/cupcake/traybake. I settled on the generously sliced banana and pecan loaf and OMG it was wonderful!! There was a fair sized seating area which was fully vacant on this cloudy but warm Monday lunchtime which I had entirely failed to noticed on my way in (derrrr😜)£5.50 which I think very reasonable for on street seating in the city centre. The food/coffee on this occasion was 5* and I can't wait to return.

A varied, beautiful spread from streusel to cheese that isn't shy on herbs and spices that will suit made with fresh and locally sourced ingredient. There's a nice atmosphere here, and plenty of space. I would recommend it, even though it is a bit pricy.
A. D. N.
Restaurant great place for lunch…. Food is fabulous.. but if a queue getting it… but that’s due mainly to the servers trying to do every job and not sticking to one station … but I’m sure they will work it out ! Great place for lunch.., there’s no sign to say it’s even there … go to back of the shop and walk upstairs… you will be pleasantly surprised
A. G. U.
We visited the upstairs cafe for breakfast. Great selection of delicious food that you wouldn't see anywhere else. Lots of vegetarian options and plant based milk alternatives. Would definitely recommend.
C. H.
Nice place for quick lunch, will pleased some vegetarians too.

Such lovely, unique gift ideas downstairs and wonderful (healthy and unhealthy but delicious) food upstairs. Feels safe too which is a bonus in these covid days!!
J. m.
Had a really great afternoon tea, only need a days advance notice of how many, with a £10 deposit per person booking, available Monday-Friday and also a Sunday. I lovely box plus a bag is supplied to take any leftovers home, the staff are very attentive and knowledgeable on what is on offer on menu. My first afternoon tea and I was not disappointed in any way, a lovely selection of teas and coffees available, so something to suit everyone. The below trays are one per person.

If I'd live in Belfast I'd come here every week, I loved loved loved the food. I had the poached eggs with avocado and rucola. I highly recommend it! My friends had the power porridge and the Shakshuka, both not my thing but they said it was very good.
R. M.
Spotted the store completely by accident and so glad that we popped in for lunch. Having been to their Dublin based stores before it was an easy decision and delighted that they have the same high standards. Great display of fresh wholesome food and the portion size is very generous.
Fantastic food.
B.
5 stars for the tray-bakes! I managed to try all 3 of them whilst in Belfast and they were all amazing.
I. H.
🌟 Friendly and helpful staff.
🌟 Food market on the Ground floor — where you could by food to go. Lots of things to try. Recommend yogurt, soup, and pastries.
🌟 The cafe on the first floor is really nice. Worth dropping in. Spacious place for sit-in. Serves milk at tables and water at the till. Great coffee & delicious dessert & salad. Tried latte, lemon cheesecake & sweet salmon. Will definitely come back and try other food.
🌟 Other stuff also available: clothes, toys, stationery, cutlery, beauty products... on the ground floor.
🌟 The atmosphere of the store is peaceful and lovely. Really enjoy it. I have added this store into my favorite list 💗.
K. K.
Great food, a little expensive compared to other cafés in Belfast. Social distancing though quite poor especially on arrival at till.
M. J.
A great store with a variety of goods. They carry lots of cool products, but the thing that caught my eye was the baked goods in the window. Mercy mercy mercy! The largest and juiciest muffins that you have seen! So I wandered in and got one, err two... they tasted as good as they looked!! If walking the streets of Belfast, Avoca is definitely worth a stop in.
k. l.
A bit annoying that if you want to order hot food you have to wait until you get to the till to do so .you have to wait until everyone before you gets their teas coffee cakes etc. So the wait begins no I won't be going again. Food good and the one young fella working was run off his feet. They need to change how it works.
D. M.
Excellent lunch, service was first class and food was beautiful, chowder was beautifully creamy and crab and gruyère cheese salad was delicious. Prices were very reasonable too, we will definitely be back.
L. B.
Fabulous chocolate and Valentine cake, massive slices, never disappointed !! Staff lovely too!
C. M.
Good food, good service. Only reason it didn’t get 5 stars is because it’s really over priced. Expect lunch to set you back £15-£20 each not including a drink. But would still recommend a visit!
T. M.
Unexpected. A fairly limited menu, but what was there was tasty and well presented.
J. M.
I think, this Is the best restaurant in Belfast. Its good for vegetarian, but for normal people top! 🥰
Go there and bon apetit!! 💓
C. S.
Love looking around the shop at the different products, food, accessories, cloths, books, jewellery, lots to see
M. R.
What a lovely place to have lunch. My daughter and I enjoyed a glass of prosecco, salads and coffees all for under £40. Lovely atmosphere and very attentive staff.
A. H.
Friendly, polite staff, good range of food in restaurant
S. K.
Good food, coffee was excellent.
4* as expensive
A. M.
The shop is gorgeous, wonderfully decorated and so quirky! The restaurant food was delicious, so colourful and so much flavour and texture. A delicious treat!
M. M.
Love this place. Unique Gifts for Christmas. Food is always so good.
T. K.
Always enjoy this spot. Keep it up folk's
a. f.
Long queue and was slow moving. Food is good would have preferred the restaurant to be opened
j. w.
Although food very nice, quite expensive and had to ask for sugar and had no spoon to stir coffee. Very busy and rushed order so ended up with food we didn't order but paid for.
L. W.
Nice place just sometimes too noisy in the café
c. h.
Avoca magic in Belfast, great coffee and food in a homely atmosphere. First class
M. C.
Very little glutenfree options to enjoy with coffee
L. W.
Mum and I were disappointed as Mum has a gluten intolerance and there was practically nothing for her to choose… there was no gluten free bread, or even sourdough, which Mum is able to eat… therefore sandwiches, toasties, soup and sandwich were all off the menu for her. Even the salmon had sauce on it that wasn’t GF. So her choices were a Baked potato or cajun chicken. She chose the latter with salads but Mum doesn’t do well with hot and spicy. She could barely eat the chicken it was so spicy. I would have to say that the lack of food choice was exacerbated by the attitude of the staff member who took a very “take it or leave it” approach. I appreciate the place was busy and it wasn’t her fault that there was such a lack of choice, she couldn’t wave a wand and magic up some GF food… however, a little empathy and awareness of customer experience goes a long way. I have to say the other members of staff we dealt with were fantastic, but with Avoca being so aware of ethically sourced products and offering Vegan choices, I was shocked at the lack of options for celiac or GF customers as this condition is not a choice, its a medical condition and keeping a few slices of GF bread in the freezer to make a toastie is not a big inconvenience. Its a beautiful shop, but I wouldn’t rush back to the restaurant :-(
P. L.
Food great service friendly and attentive
A. B.
Great shop & restaurant. Love their stuff which is mostly made in Ireland.
M. B.
Not as good as it used to be - lot less stock, iced vanilla cup cakes more dry and much sweeter than before (too sweet) however, still love Avoca, so unique, quirky, lovely fashions
J. C.
I like Avoca. But a few things have changed since lockdown and not for the better. It's lost a lot of its fabulousness. Plus they left security tags on 2 items and I had to return the next day to have them removed 🙃😑... still love the overall atmosphere of the shop and the staff ate always lovely
L. M.
Beautiful store for ideas and inspiration
Food is fabulous and take away food amazing in healthy tasty choices
M. M.
My favourite place! Absolutely amazing food!
B. S.
This was a visit to the coffee shop/restaurant on the upper floor. Lots of tables and friendly helpful staff.
Extensive menu of salads and bakes carefully and thoughtfully presented.
Plenty of choice of drinks.
L. F.
Stopped here for tea and a cake after a long day of trekking around. It's REALLY busy here but definitely worth it. The cake is excellent and enormous! The only thing I didn't like is that the milk for drinks is kept in jugs on table which isn't amazing. Ours was empty and we had to go begging another table for some.
M. F.
Just popped in for a quick bite in the cafe, the coffee is very well made especially the latte, and the scones are delicious! Maybe a little more expensive than other cafes in the area but it is well worth the price. I would definitely recommend it and will be back soon.
M. H.
Great place to eat. Coffee is great, as are the scones. Can't wait to try out some of the other delicacies
A. M.
Coffee shop has lovely salads, quiche, salmon and sausage rolls, for lunch. All beautifully made with great ingredients. And the desserts and scones are fabulous.
The main shop is magical. Crammed with beautiful woolen goods, blankets, throws and scarfs. Nice naks galore. Great place for present buying.
a. b.
It simply doesn't get much better than Avoca. Our first visit and the experience was fantastic. Our breakfast was fabulous and the customer service was as good as it gets. Particularly the girl who had her hair in a bun( possibly blue). She knew her stuff.
J. S.
I have been for lunch many times and it is a great spot. You invariably have to queue for a while for a table unless you arrive early. I was there for breakfast and was amazed to see it so quiet. I had the full cooked breakfast which was good quality. Would have preferred potato bread to the toasted wheaten but that's just personal preference. A really great place for breakfast or lunch with great quality food.
D. C.
It's ok.
There were gluten free options available according to the cafe however non were available when attempting to order, I was offered a cake which clearly contains gluten according to the front label but the staff member didn't realise it. Luckily I read the label.
The couch in which we sat at had some sort of sauce on it and my partner had his trousers stained....so things could have been cleaned better.
The staff however were lovely :)
S.
My wife and I really like this shop.
We always enjoy a lunch and browse around the shop when we are handy to the location.
The food is good quality and the deserts are lovely.
On the down side, I think they are under staffed and we try to avoid the lunch time at it's pick, because during lunch time, you could find yourself with a tray of hot food and no table to dine on, as they don't clear and clean the tables quick enough.
The last time I had lunch there, I noticed by the time I got a table to eat my food, the food and coffee turned cold!!
As it is in a very busy city, you would think they would have enough staff.
All that being said, I would still recommend this place... Just time it right!!
I. A.
Beautiful place, food excellent, friendly staff and very clean. Would highly recommend.
R. S.
It's great to have Avoca in Belfast. I especially like their informal dining area. The food is fresh and high quality and you just never know what you have in common to chat about with the diners beside you. In an age of chains taking over high streets, Avoca is unique. That's what sets it apart.
t.
Very popular at lunch time (the restaurant). Good selection, all of the salads are very tasty, lasagne nice. Weeee but expensive but doesn't seem to bother the constant stream of people coming and going. Downstairs they sell cakes to takeaway, all looked really good.
A. G.
Good ambiance and calm. Options available with veg and non veg. Desserts and coffee served as well.
S.
Consistently amazing food and nice service. You must try their scones it's the best in Belfast.
Can be a bit busy at times, but that's only an indication of popularity.
P. G.
Always great quality of food, and of course lovely surroundings.
M. H.
I've been to Avoca café before and always thought it was very tasty. I visited this time and was dissapointed. We stood waiting to get a table while staff talked amongst themselves and there were a number of empty tables. We then waited quite a bit before someone actually came to take our order (same story again, staff just talking). I ordered the parfait and my partner had the chowder. Both plates were beautifully presented however we both felt that the taste fell a bit flat and was not worth the money. The chowder was a little bland and for a big bowl, only came with one small piece of bread. I didn't like the taste of the stuff on top of the parfait and unfortunately it was all on top of it and this ruined it for me. I also don't think the salad added much and the bread was half toasted. Overall it was a dissapointing visit considering I've been before and had far better food and service. I will give it a go next time though!
S. M.
Huge portions, great for main meal or cake stop but not for light lunch.
P. H.
Lovely restaurant upstairs with a good choice of food. Shop downstairs has a lovely choice of items and gifts
R. B.
Amazing shop, lovely goods for all the family, clothes, household items, food, toiletries, books and a cafe, could have spent hours in here. There were lots of local items including the famous woven blankets, wraps and scarves but it's a pity that everything isn't Irish.
M. S.
Always guranteed good food. Slightly pricier than some other city centre but meals are distinctive. Today spinach brie and pine nut quiche with potato chorizo and sun dried peppers salad. Recommend.
J. D.
Lovely atmosphere with a delicious cafe upstairs. Variety of items are on the low end compared to Dunnes and cath kidson but still enough for a reasonably long browse through. Quality of their clothing is very high, however that is shown through their price. Cafe upstairs is a great place for a small bite or a healthy lunch option. (Main and 3 salads for £10) Defintely recommend a visit, but price is on the high end of the scale!
A.
Great shop for funky home stuff. Good range of products and clothes for men and women. Excellent cafes upstairs or a more formal restaurant both serving really healthy food. Excellent deli as well.
A. T.
A real gem in the centre of Belfast. Great shop downstairs and even better coffee/restaurant upstairs. I had lunch in Arthur's. Food is top quality and really friendly service. Packed out on a Tue which speaks volumes. Cathy and her team deserve the highest credit. Keep up the great work.
J. D.
Almost £4 for each side salad added to your dish is just way over priced
T. O.
Great store on ground floor with kitchen ware, men's and women's fashions, books and fresh food to go. Also on the 1st floor, there are 2 restaurants, 1 is self service and the other is waiter served. Both of these do great fresh food.
A. K.
Too long a queue. Excellent walnut cake and coffee
G. M.
Interesting ranges of soft furnishings and kitchen bits and bobs plus men's, ladies and kids clothes. They have a range of unusual and quality edible goodies, just right for gifts or a treat. Then there is upstairs. A sit down resteraunt with table service and a cafe style eatery with long refractory tables. Good in both is really good and varied. Not bad value for money too, a great spot for lunch if out shopping in the city. Finally there are clean customer toilets. Truely I can't recommend Avoca enough, give them a try and you won't be disappointed. P

Had breakfast in restaurant it was lovely
T. C.
Always amazing experience !
W. C.
A nice shop to go into, staff always friendly ,and the box of six cupcakes WOW they have to be eaten at one sitting with a big mug of tea 👍😄
L. B.
Beautiful women's and home store and coffee shop. Great salads and scones. You can choose between cafeteria style self-service or table service. The store is a lovely place to browse. Blankets, clothing and homeware also some speciality foods
D. B.
Excellent scones, but get there well before midday if you want to sit in with a scone. Can be very busy so don't expect lightning fast service, but staff are very friendly.
T. W.
Downstairs is an interesting shop of different style home ware and crockery to the usual plates and bowls normally found in larger chains. Upstairs there's a small sandwich counter and a larger (crowded at lunch time) restaurant area although I didn't have to wait long for the food. The portion of falafels and dios was larger than expected and service was quick despite it being busy.
E. C.
Came here for a quick bite after hearing a lot of hearsay and reviews.
First of all, the food is a little expensive, but for what we received I could not have been happier! I was so surprised by the fact that every plate that came out looked immaculate! Even the "plain" old salad (though I could never call it that) tingled the tastebuds.
Definitely come here for a look. The artisan meals are worth it.
B.
The food and coffee here are lovely. It can be busy but plenty of seating.
d.
nice spot for lunch, friendly service, good quality food.
M. L.
One of the lovliest shops in Belfast Goregeous range of homeware, books clothing and accessories.
The cafe really has to be experienced - so much so I went straight down and bought the Avoca cook book! Definately recommended!
D.
Busy lunch time which is expected in a place that holds an array of delicious lunches for customers who steer away from generic menues. Apparently local produce is used which is a plus in my humble opinion! Recommend going there for a wee top up!
J. M.
Beautiful shop! Super friendly and helpful staff. Especially lovely man at the door!
9.
Delicious soup and bread. Definitely will be back for more on my next trip to belfast
S. B.
Amazing cafe/tea shop. The range of cakes and tray bakes are incredible and such generous sizes. Also lots of unusual savoury food to choose from. Very competitive prices
L. A.
This place is a delight - the cafe is great, really friendly staff and the food is excellent. The boutique is also lovely, good range of mid price brands, things you don’t see everywhere.
M. H.
Fantastic place for lunch or afternoon tea. Spent three days in Belfast, called at Avoca to eat three times! Everything was fresh, beautifully presented and delicious.
N. F.
Eclectic mix of Irish artisanal goods along with other interesting food, books, wearables; the list is almost endless. Add to that a cafe and restaurant serving all a hungry customer might want ... What's not to like.
L. B.
I love this place. The restaurant is lovely. A good menu.....value for money. The cafe has a good selection of food. The salads are amazing!
N. M.
Just stunning items!
D. H.
I meet friends regularly in the cafe - good food, relaxed atmosphere. The shop is good but at a premium - this is treat food, not competing with the bargain supermarkets.
D. M.
Love this shop. You can find anything here, from clothing to stationery. Not exclusively Avoca branded. The place has a really nice café too. Pricey but worth every penny
J. C.
Lovely setting and brilliant staff and lovely products. A bit over priced though, especially food both in shop and cafe. Still would go back though.
G. T.
Great food!
C. M.
First time we have visted for lunch, the food is really good. The portions are big, the service is professional and prompt. Would definitely recommend as a lunch spot in the city
B. F.
Had a leisurely lunch here. Typical Avoca setup - good food, nice settings, reasonable service and not expensive. You can't go wrong at Avoca.
A. H.
Came here for lunch with the family, and it was fantastic. Had the burger which was rather large but wonderful... It was a little pricy but worth it as a treat. Staff were friendly and polite.
N. Q.
