I thought this fab cafe was a shop! But it's both, we walked in and it smelled so good, they sell Maison Berger room fragrance lamps and that is what we could smell, the lady that served us was so friendly and knowledgeable about the products that I bought one. The iced coffee was great and the cake to die for!

I’m a local and I visit regularly but I came in today with relatives from Gloucestershire. What a wonderful atmosphere you all created, in keeping with the 40s themed weekend in the Bailgate. They were hugely impressed.
The food, as usual was fresh and well presented. You’ve kept your prices reasonable in current times and you are always my recommendation for a place to go when visiting uphill Lincoln. Keep up the good work and producing that delicious coffee and walnut cake! 😁

Enjoyed a coffee and a cake in the cafe with friends on a recent trip to Lincoln. Two friends had a slice of the Victoria sandwich cake, another had the Bakewell cake and I chose the Tiffin. All homemade and absolutely delicious 😋 . Their "Flirty" coffee was smooth and also delicious. The premises are very quaint, and tastefully decorated. The staff very friendly and efficient. The gift shop side of the premises is filled with beautiful and some unusual items for sale. We could have spent a fortune! Well worth a visit.

We stopped here for hot chocolates and tea cakes on our way up to the cathedral. Beautiful cafe with friendly staff. They also sold lots of home items, with some amazing Christmas decorations! Definitely recommend!

Haven't ever noticed this place before. Went in for the first time today and was pleased I did! Lovely little cafe and homeware shop. Food was delicious and reasonably priced. Will be returning to try the afternoon tea!

Sanctuary in the Bail, provides just that, a sanctuary from the stresses of life, from the moment you enter, you are met by the wonderful owner, Stephen and his friendly staff.
The food is delicious and a good broad choice of high quality dishes, made with care for the look as well as the flavour. No one pushes you to finish and you can choose a shed (need to book) with blankets and privacy to see and relax.
The shop also sells a good range of gift items, including jewellery, pottery and candles.
It now includes a covered outdoor area to relax in as well.

You couldn't get anywhere nicer in the Bailgate! Absolutely lovely, friendly staff. Always accommodating, great food, and atmosphere. Their home made cakes are delightful!

First thing to note is that this is quite a small cafe/shop, so at busier periods you may not be able to get a table easily. This has a good level of service inside, with freshly made sandwiches and drinks. Staff are happy to help and quite smiley. Not the best place in the area, in my opinion, however, I still left happy and full!

Just enjoyed afternoon tea. To say it was amazing is an understatement. Outshines Betty's by a mile. everything made on premises staff couldn't be more accommodating with lots of smiles

Coffee and tiffin whilst on lock down. Visiting town for day, can't resist the walk up Steep St. I know I have stopped other places in my time but this little gem was open and allowing limited customers inside. In future we'll have forgotten about this may, but the tiffin was amazing. My partner managed to buy 2 pieces, wow. Must visit.
