Attentive service and knowledgeable staff are the reasons you should shop for audio video equipment at an independent retailer, and they are two things that Richer Sounds has in abundance. All of their staff have a seemingly encyclopaedic amount of knowledge, and that is no easy task in a sector that has so much constant change. If you need specific, high quality A/V gear I can think of no better place to shop than Richer Sounds.

I have been a customer for many years, and I purchase all my home entertainment systems from them. Home cinema, tv's Dvd recorders etc. I have just purchased a new home cinema AV receiver and dolby atmos speakers to replace my existing AV receiver as it was past its time, as quite a few years old. Their prices are extremely competitive and will price match. The staff are always friendly and very knowledgeable, and are always available to help on-line and in store. They have a demo room so you can experience the home cinema experience (popcorn? you had better ask) As you have guessed I would definitely recommend.

These guys came up trumps again. Having a high-street presence is all about the customer service nowadays and these guys do this very well.
Kieren, who I dealt with, allowed me to explain what I was looking for and he walked me through all my options. At no point did I feel he was pushing me towards one product or another. He agreed with a lot of my views and gave me things to think about I might have overlooked. This is what I was looking for. I ordered a great system and it was delivered the very next day.

My all in one DVD 5.1 system packed in just as the Lockdown started so that gave me plenty of time to look at a seperates system to replace it. Having read several reviews and seen various discussions on various AV Forums I had an idea of what items I wanted to test.
A week after some of the Lockdown restrictions eased I contacted Reading Richer Sounds and James arranged for me to demo the items. I took a load of Blu Rays, DVDs, CDs and SACDs to try out the system and the team were more than happy to leave me in the Demo Room. After 45 minutes or so it was suggested I try another set of speakers as having listened to the music I was playing they thought they would suit me better. Indeed they did and there was not a complaint when I played everything I had all over again.
Buying a package of TV, Blu Ray, AV Amp and 5.1 speakers got me a discount but there was never any attempts at 'snake oil' sales and trying to tell me that a few £150 cables were essential to make my system really sound great. Just very helpful advice.
The items look a while to arrive but this was week one after Lockdown and that was only to be expected. However I was kept informed of progress via emails and phone calls.
Can't find any fault with their service. Hopefully I won't be buying any AV items any time soon but if you are I would heartedly recommend Richer Sounds Reading.

I have purchased TVs and audio equipment from Richer Sounds for over 10 years now and have found them to always be knowledgeable and friendly. My most recent experience at the Reading store was excellent, Dan (my sales' adviser) was so thorough in his customer service to me on my TV and Sonos Playbase purchase - from assistance on the best possible positioning of the TV (stand or bracket, I went with a stand in the end) and Sonos kit, to guidance on the best cabling - he even kept the store open for me an additional 20 minutes. I'd also like to thank the GM, Steve, for his extensive knowledge that really helped with the decision making and also for offering me a price match on a couple of items too!

Overall it's hard to fault the experience with these guys. They listened to what I needed and had a setup in the demo room which matched; spent 20 minutes talking through the options and specifics of the room it would all go in etc. Once I'd made a decision, they were very flexible on holding onto items until I was ready to collect (the room was having work done on it) whilst giving others out (wire to be chased into wall etc). Very good prices; I am always paranoid at paying over the odds and check everything online, and RS prices always seem to be at least matched to the best online prices with the addition of great local service. Finally fired up my new surround system last night and it sounds amazing, very pleased. What's not to like! Huge difference to the experience at the larger chain stores where it seems difficult to find someone who can speak in basic sentences half the time.

Gave him some pointers to what I was looking for and he set up a demo for me to show me of what he felt I was looking for. It was perfect! We bought the amplifier and speaker set there and then. I came across Richer Sounds 8 years ago. They were very informative and helpful. Brilliant little shop, you just don't get this kind of customer service from other larger outlets. The Manager (Lewis) really knows his stuff and is clearly passionate about what he does, He took the time to walk me through replacing my home sound system despite the shop being busy at the time. In the end I decided to take a rain check but I'll definitely be back to complete my purchase.
If this shop is a representation of the whole company then the future looks very bright for Richer Sounds. Hopefully this place doesn't lose its ethos when it grows.

I was recommend to visit Richer Sounds by a friend of mine who had recently bought a TV from them and was impressed with their service and prices. I didn't take his advise initially believing that Curry's was the easy, probably cheaper option and the staff would be less likely to intimidate me with their "techy" speak making me feel an idiot for not knowing what I wanted or needed. So off I went to Curry's to be ignored initially and then dealt with as if I was some sort of inconvenience.
So after this experience I visited Richer Sounds in Reading and was immediately acknowledge and offer a drink on arrival.
The in-store guys were very helpful, not in the least bit geeky but very knowledgeable and just really interested in my requirements and explained things in simple terms.
The demo room is great and the range on display is impressive. Having decided on a TV and wireless surround sound system the price was painlessly negotiated so we both parties felt good about the deal and it was certainly in line, if not better than the "super stores" My purchases were in stock and Steve (The Manager) even carried them to my car for me - nice touch.

Excellent shop. I've shopped here for years and i can honestly say that all the staff have been friendly and helpful. The shop is usually busy when I've visited but the staff always find time to help where possible. A special mention to Kieran who has always been helpful and pleased to see me. I'm very surprised at some of the bad reviews here, its not a reflection of service I've experienced over the years and up to this day. I've also used their after-care service recently which turned a fault around on my tv within a few days, no hassle and a generally positive experience.

Went to buy an entry level sound bar for my TV. Helpful staff took time to understand my requirements and showed me the one I was interested in. They suggested I also listen to a few of the other ones that were slightly more expensive. It was good advice since the improved sound was worth the extra money to me. Bought the product and took it home. Normally Richer Sounds are very competitive on price so I hadn't checked before I bought it. I did a quick check on Amazon and found it quite a bit cheaper. If it had only been £20 cheaper, I would not have asked for a price match since the experience and advice was worth that to me. On this occasion I did ask if Richer Sounds would do a price match - they were happy to do this and arranged a refund.

The staff here at Richer Sounds which include Kieren (long time legend!), James (assistant store manager) and Steve (store manager) are all professional, friendly and knowledgeable. I have been a regular customer over the years, none more so than this year as I've upgraded a lot of my AV equipment. If you're serious about audio visual gear and hi-fi then visit this place as the knowledge of everyone working here far outweighs that available in other stores. They're often busy but never too busy to help and allow you time to demo equipment (though best to book a time slot to avoid clashing with other customers in the main demo room).
Back to Kieren, who has been a great help this year and who has recognised my loyalty as a customer with some great deals. Thanks Reading Richer Sounds! 😃

Freaking superb service. I purchased a high spec Sony TV here last month after relocating to Reading and after transferring my belongings I simply could not get it to play audio through my Bose Soundbar. I tried everything for days and followed advice on the Bose support forum and via Google. Lots of other people struggle too and often get nowhere, sending their TV or soundbar back to their supplier. A store and free home visit as 'all part of our service sir...' quickly fixed it, as they promised they would. That's the benefit of supporting our high street retailers over Amazon etc. And buying from those with genuine sales and technical after sales support. Thank you soooo much Richer Sounds and especially Steve and Archie. I am one seriously happy bunny now!!!! I was looking for a specific Hisense 65" TV model and having called up several branches of RS up and down the country, I was starting to think that I may struggle to find one of these units as nearly every branch was either sold out or had a reservation. NOTE TO JULIAN: If people are going to make a reservation and genuinely going to purchase a product from you, I feel they should at least offer their credit/debit card details prior as commitment to purchase, some of the branches I spoke with [Liverpool] had 2 of these units reserved for the same customer, with no financial commitment, not only was this greedy from the customer’s part, but if he/she had not turned up, then they could potentially be missing a genuine sale. The response I got from most branches whilst friendly, was pretty non-committal and disinterested, with the exception of 2 branches, namely Leicester and Reading. I spoke to the manager at Reading “Stephen James”, who was very approachable and helpful and having explained my situation he said no problem, they had the product available and it was mine if I wanted it, to which I was delighted even though I had the long journey from Cheshire to Berkshire to collect it, I felt it was worth it. Unfortunately, my journey down was not a good one and was held up several times and didn't actually arrive until after 5pm, I quickly telephoned to apologies that I was going to be arriving late and they kindly agreed to keep the store open for me until I got there, which was outstanding service! I would also like to mention “Devon” from the Leicester branch, who was also very helpful and called back to say that the TV he had reserved for their customer was now available, but I explained that I have already found one. Great Service and will be back again, well done!

I have been buying my audio and visual products from Richersounds in Reading for around 15 years. It is always my first place to look for anything in AV I need for my family and friends. Their advice has always been impartial and honest, I have even come away with a cheaper product than I intended when they have demonstrated that it is better than what I went in for. Today I was again served by Kieren for a sound dock and headphones for my daughter. He could not of been more helpful setting up the equipment for my her to hear it before buying it. I called into Richer Sounds Reading on Tuesday looking for advice on speakers. I spoke to Kieren who was very efficient and suggested an eminently suitable model and even set it up for a demonstration. The next day I rang and ordered the speakers and cables etc and they arrived before 10:00 am the next day .

Fantastic Service. Returned my initial message I left on the voicemail with three minutes. Very helpful and knowledgable over the phone. I dealth with Neil, the Store Manager.
Went in for a demo to hear the Surround sound system. Very happy with the demo and purchased the surround sound system and av receiver as well as HDMI cables.
Neil helped me with making sure I understood what each piece of equipment does, and making sure I had all the correct cabling.
Will be going back to purchase a LED/Plasma TV over the next few months.

I have bought my kit from Richer Sounds for over a decade now, and while products come and go, the customer service you receive remains consistently high.
I've just purchased a brand new CXN, CXA and CXC with Dali speakers to replace my 640 setup. The kit is superb, and Steve, the asst branch manager, was very patient and helpful throughout - never pushy, and the price was attractive. I had a potential issue over the speakers which turns out to be my ignorance rather than anything else - but once again, the whole team, including HQ and online monitoring, were excellent in making sure I was nothing less than 100% happy. Apart from John Lewis, other retailers are simply not in the same league as Richer Sounds, and they would be well served by following this business model.
Once my wallet has recovered from my latest round of boy-toy buying, I'll be back there for my next fix. Thanks again to Steve - next time though, make sure the mugs are in stock :-)

Having decided upon wanting to get a 5.1 surround sound system for our home, and considering a new TV as well, we popped into the Reading store to hear the speakers we were looking at in action and to get some advise on Amps and TVs.

He popped a quote over to us on an email so that we could take a more detailed look at the spec, which was great, as we didn't have to rush making a decision on which TV to go for, and allowed us to check reviews etc. We were able to speak to the team on the phone and email to make sure we built the right package for us, which was really convenient.
We decided to go for the recommended Amp and chose slightly higher spec speakers - having found a deal with another company, we asked Richer Sounds Reading if they'd be able to price match this, which Kieren sorted out for us - no hassle, we simply shared with him the details of the deal we'd seen, which he then checked out and gave us a call back.
We popped in to the store again to place our order and finalise everything. Yet again, brilliant customer service from Kieren, who worked with us to make sure we had the best cable options that we needed for each of the speakers, and organised courier delivery to home as well.
Fully recommend popping in to the Reading branch of Richer Sounds - and can honestly say that we are so glad we spoke to Kieren, he's a brilliant representative for the company! We're really pleased with our new system - it's transformed our living room, and the sound from the Dali speakers is absolutely brilliant! Full marks to Richer Sounds for making the research and purchasing process so easy.

There are only 3-4 spaces out the front and the same in trinity. All were full, so I had to park in Chatham multi-storey. It’s not practical to carry a large tv 150-200 yards and then up a multi-storey. So when I had bought my tv I had to then collect my car to load up. Only place I could park was on a double red. Maybe if one of the spaces outside could be reserved for loading, it might help... or maybe I was just unlucky that it was so busy...

Following my initial review last week, I was contacted by one of their staffs about my problem the very next day. Suffice to say, they sorted out the sub within a couple of days and have sweeten the deal considering my initial frustration. As such, I would recommend their service as they truly stick to their words about customer care.
Original review:
I went in and bought the Arcam Solo bar + sub 2 weeks ago (18th). At the time of purchase, they only have a new solo bar and the display sub. I was told that I can pay for the package but use the demo sub for the time being and they will order a new one from their warehouse (which they confirmed to have in stock) that should be coming Wednesday or Friday as that is their delivery dates. I was first promised a call by their staff named Joe.
Came Friday evening (23rd), I had to call in to be told that there is no record of the order! Subsequently I was promised again that I will definitely get a call today (28th) to inform me of the status by one of their staff called Kieren(?). Disappointingly no calls at the time of writing this review.
I'm now considering returning this combo and buy it elsewhere as I've paid not an insignificant amount for this and the level of service clearly disappoints.
