Iain Penman was recommended to me and my husband by some friends who had a loft conversion done. We were looking to get a 2 storey extension done and attach it to our existing out building. Iain set our expectations early on, in line with our budget, and we realised that our original idea would have been beyond our means. With his valued input, we were able to round upon a single storey extension, that had a bigger footprint meaning more space and that more money could be set by for a good finish, without exhausting our budget which would have probably forced us to compromise elsewhere. We had some issues getting the project over the line with amendments having to be submitted, and Iain was able to assist us in this respect and get the project finished and completed. Throughout Iain was easy to contact, listened to what we wanted, kept us well informed, and took us right through the planning process to application and building warrant. I would have no hesitation in recommending Iain Penman to anyone looking for a hard-working, professional, thorough, and highly competent architect to anyone that asked

Having read the positive reviews on this site we contacted Iain for help in renovating and extending a victorian bungalow in a conservation area. Iain's clearly communicated quote was very competitive compared to other agencies we contacted, however what really sold us was his positivity about the project and willingness to discuss ideas before money changed hands. This warmth and generosity continued throughout. During every stage of the process Iain has provided a helpful, friendly and diligent service. We have had issues with the planning department as well as with some engineering aspects of the project and Iain worked tirelessly to resolve these, going well beyond his remit and continuing long after we had settled his fee. Iain gave thoughtful input during the initial design phase, taking care to incorporate the things that were important to us in his suggestions in addition to presenting exciting options we hadn't considered. My old stone house is on the main road in a conservation area. I wished to extend the kitchen forward towards the road and this presented a possible problem with Planning Control. Iain Penman was recommended by my neighbour after good work done there. Iain visited several times and surveyed the site thoroughly before he developed a plan with a stone bay window. He then quickly drew up meticulous drawings, first for Planning Control, then for Building Standards and gained all permission requirements. After some time of thinking about creating another room within our house for growing children we decided we would like to convert our garage to free up usable space. We contacted Ian Penman of Architectural Plans Ltd after seeing his advert in a local directory. We were able to speak to Ian directly. When he visited our home he was professional, courteous and thorough and he came back to us in a timely fashion whenever we had a question or to update us. He explained the process to us in a clear manner regards applying for and gaining a warrant to convert our garage and provided us with further information to read in regard to the legal/formal aspects of this. After listening carefully to what our requirements were Ian provided solid advice and information. This allowed us to decide what we wanted in terms of our design and layout within the confines of the space that we had. Ian went the extra mile in providing different ideas and layouts in terms of the drawings and we eventually settled on the layout we wanted and plans were submitted to gain the warrant based on this choice. We wanted to create additional internal floorspace and a family friendly kitchen/dining/living space but have a small garden and didn't want to lose much of it to a kitchen extension. We needed some ideas to make the best use of the existing space without significantly increasing the footprint of the house. When we changed our minds at a late stage (entirely down to us as Iain had followed our brief to the letter!), Iain turned the new plans around really quickly and with good grace.
