M.Shyam and the rest of the team at Ansham Associates worked tirelessly to obtain planning permission for our very ambitious project – changing a small 3-bedroom country bungalow into a large, 2-storey, 6-bedroom luxury home. They took care of all correspondence with the council, and presented the project at the local parish council meeting and gained unanimous support for the plans. We felt completely at ease having Ansham head up the planning permission procedures, and are overall very happy with the designs and service offered.

This review covers our initial meeting up to and including the completion of RIBA stage 3. Concluding with a successful planning permission.
Initial thoughts. We met numerous architects in the weeks before selecting Ansham. Shyam and Arthur made a good first impression; they were excited about the project and were absolutely clear about the kind of work that motivates them as a practice.
Stage 1: Preparation and brief. Shyam took great care in extracting our specific objectives. All variables affecting the site, the current house and the local vernacular were considered.
Stage 2: Concept Design. I think this was an area within which Ansham really excelled. A great deal of original thought and imagination went into the concept designs producing an outcome that was unique to our site and bespoke to our wishes. The timeline slipped a little here but that was as much our responsibility as theirs.
Stage 3: Developed Design. This involved parring back the concept to align with budget and likely planning constraints. At the time of writing, having successfully passed planning and shortly going out to tender on the build, I can confirm that Ansham judged the planning element perfectly. Looking forward we hope for this same accuracy on their budgetary judgement.
Concluding comments: From the outset to the granting of planning permission, Ansham have proved excellent value for money. We have a bespoke design that beautifully aligns with our objectives. Moreover, Ansham’s negotiation of the planning process, for what is quite a striking design in a village, was nothing short of masterful. I am not convinced we would have arrived at this overall level of outcome with any of the many other architects we initially met.
