Summary of what we found helpful from dRAW’s service
• Listening during the scheme design phase: Seamus and his team delivered a scheme which we both liked, and was differentiated from other similar size developments in the area. Quick turn-around for the various iterations.
• Distinctive design: When we chose dRAW, we were well aware of the distinctive house-style (one of the most timeless, in my view). This, I think, makes the end result more special, compared to other bland designs you might see.
• Tendering and negotiating with building contractors: It has become difficult to find competent builders at a reasonable price in London. dRAW has a panel of good contractors who want the work and are separate to dRAW. dRAW can manage the price to a reasonable level and deal with contracting.
• Suggesting materials suppliers: Where we were in a quandary over sourcing materials, dRAW were able to go into lists and provide samples and advice. Be it for the building inspectors or the door handles. Prices were also keen.
Overall, building works are not cheap in London and are a considerable commitment. But if you want a RIBA architect and the distinctiveness of the work, with full CAD drawings rather than a builder using a draughtsman, then the charges are very reasonable indeed.
