The cadets are based on board an old 1950’s lighthouse ship, which was decommissioned and converted in the late 1980’s/early 1990’s. Good to see the ship put to use, it gives a reminder that the Hythe used to be a port (much of its maritime history is long since gone). Opposite the lighthouse ship is a concrete pillar with a metal lantern on top - this was once part of the entranceway into a coal-fired power station, which stood where the warehouses are now from the 1920’s until the 1960’s. There's another pillar (missing it's lantern) a bit further down the quay, at the entranceway to a breaker's yard. There's a similar lighthouse ship at Tollesbury, from the same era as this one

Brilliant venue in The LightShip at Colchester Hythe!
Thoroughly enjoyed a very well run Trafalgar Night with food and Shanty Singing.
Look out for next Year. Was run by Lion Quay Sailing Club. Really Friendly Club!

Great cadet group and the catering they do for the roman roadsters car meeting every month just shows how good the cadets and leaders really are. Credit it you all

Visit once a month for their Sunday morning car meet. Loverly breakfast and all proceeds go to the sea cadets.

Your child can't miss it. It's a good learning experience and skills. All the team are welcoming and lovely.

Was shown around on national heritage day. Cool ship, great that this is used for the sea cadets rather than having been scrapped.
