I have visited Red Hills Pitmans Parliament many times. The last time in July 2018 when I attended Durham Miners Gala. On this particular day 13th July Donald Trump was visiting London and Red Hills had it's own protest against the visit.
Red Hills is steeped in history of the working man. If you're in Durham do not miss a visit to this stunning building. You won't be disappointed.

Historic Redhills (or the pitman's parliament as it was known locally) is testament to the collective power of the miner's union in Durham in its heyday. It is a beautiful and evocative building that is currently undergoing a long process of refurbishment to restore it and establish itself as a cultural hub. If you are in Durham, it is certainly worth a visit. Details of events and opening times are on their website. If you value the role of trades unions in Britain, consider becoming a Marra (Durham Miner's name for a work mate) - this helps to fund the restoration programme, but most importantly the annual trade union celebration - the Durham Miner's Gala. The pits may have been closed, but the spirit of community lives on and reminds us of a better world.

Excellent place to visit and find out about the Mining Heritage in and around Durham.
It may encourage you to become a Marra .
