Reviews of RSPB Newport Wetlands

I absolutely loved this place. The staff were very helpful. I had booked a mobility scooter which was a godsend. To pick it up at the reception which was a bit of a walk for me, they said that they would have brought the scooter to where the car was if they had known. The cafe had a good choice of snacks. We both had a lovely sandwich, coffee and Welsh tea. We set off following the map given. There's a choice of routes you can take depending on how long or far you want to walk following the paths surrounded by reeds and flowering plants. There's also a pontoon over water with a lot of assorted fish. Different birds can be heard whilst you wend your way through the wetlands. This all so enjoyable especially if your a nature lover.

Great place for the family to enjoy nature.
We Pay for RSPB membership so parking is free.
Staff are great
The shop looks really nice with a wide range of bird watching and feeding products.
Toilets on site are very clean
We didnt eat at the cafe, but it looked nice.
The only down side was I did spot a bit of litter. It amazes me that even at place that are nature reserves some people still drop litter.
M. T.
Nice flat easy walking. Not many birds to be seen but August can be a quiet month. Impressive nos of bees, including the rare carder bee, on everlasting pea and other flowers. Nice cafe/restaurant and shop. Plenty of parking free for RSPB members.
J. B.
So peaceful and lots of wildlife. We saw catapillers, coots, moorhens and buzzards. There were other birds such as magpie, Jay and dippers as well as Swans and Canada Geese. Fantastic walk and well worth a visit.
J. W.
I do love exploring the coastline, especially where there is a lighthouse! I found this place online and decided to stop by. Parking is £4 for non-RSPB members - you buy a token from a hut to operate the barrier - but to visit the actual wetlands is free. We had a little wander to the East Usk Lighthouse, saw the coast and the West Usk Lighthouse across the river and then headed back as my partner isn't a big fan of walking, so there was a lot we didn't explore. There was clearly lots to see, but the pathways weren't marked very clearly, so I can imagine it is easy to get lost here! Still, a very beautiful place to get lost and I would definitely recommend!
R. T.
Beautiful place to go for a walk. We did the longest route. Was really nice. Could do with more shady places to sit along the walk. Cafe was extremely clean. Hot food would be a bonus but lovely sandwiches on offer.
K. C.
A beautiful place to spend a sunny afternoon. There are a few walks to choose from that are all calm and peaceful. Dogs are allowed around one particular walk. There is also a cafe and a shop.
L.
This was just stunning. We weren't sure what to expect visiting and my what a lovely surprise. Beautiful weather, views and just a lovely place to be and enjoy nature. Totally recommend!
A. S.
Very nice open space walked to the light house and along the coastal path a fair distance lovely views not many birds,as in swans or ducks seen tho on that day
R. H.
Great couple of hours exploring Newport Wetlands, lovely little cafe with a fantastic window to watch the wildlife.
Toilets available int the cafe. Open 10-4. Option to walk down to the sea and follow the Welsh coastal path.
C.
Staff are very friendly, very well informed, knowledgeable and happy to help. It’s a wonderful peace of nature. If your lucky enough in the winter months you can see the starlings in there thousands.
K. E.
We did Summer dip pond experience my daughters loved it. Great staff and beautiful grounds and scenery. Recommend
J. B.
Absolutely beautiful place, couldn't recommend enough. The area is kept wonderfully clean, car park charge isn't expensive (if you're an RSPB member you need only visit 2x a month to pay it off), and the cafe and gift shop are fab.
There are several different walks you can do around the area and they are all labelled clearly with signs around each one to ensure you don't get lost.
They indicate clearly also which ones are suitable for disabled people and dogs and which ones aren't.
There are informational signs dotted around, and currently (October 2021) they are doing a very fun Halloween scavenger walk type thing which was fun even for us adults.
Couldn't recommend enough.
A. K.
We had a fantastic visit to the wetlands. The staff were very friendly and the wetlands were lush and peaceful. The paths are well maintained and suitable for prams and wheelchair users.
There are no bins on site as visitors are encouraged to take their rubbish home with them.
G. S.
Thank you very much. You are amazing.
You arranged everything for Ukrainians.
We all spent marvellous time
N. N.
Lovely respite with walks for the modest adventure types...being near water like this is a gift . The centre is now open and and welcomingly so. One of my favourite places.
G. R.
Absolutely gorgeous and peaceful.
Who would have thought an area of such beauty and tranquility would be so close to the city?
Do much to see - just they for the walk this time.
N.
Beautiful wetland nature reserve, which also has a small woodland and a coastal path from which you can see the mudflats of the estuary. Many different types of bird live here and there is always lots to see. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable and there is a lovely visitor centre, shop and cafe. Highly recommended location for any bird watching.
R. W.
Excellent Walks through various habitats. Lots of wildlife to see and great views over the severn estuary. I never tire of visiting this place. Now charging £3 for non RSPB members to use the car park.
J. C.
Lovely place, lovely friendly helpful people, great for my mum who can't walk far. Cafe in such a lovely location it's just dreamy, to sit on the decking and watch the birds. Food was shocking and almost inedible, a tiny bit of effort could transform that aspect.
A. C.
Nice for an hour or so. Fairly flat with tall grass and wetland makes seeing wildlife tricky outside the hides. There is a nice stretch of the estuary with nice views. Lovely cafe for coffee and cake, with a small gift shop.
C. S.
A great place to visit with young kids out for a little adventure. Mini beasts are everywhere for them to see and if you can, hold them. Great place for bird watchers too and if you just fancy a nice walk around. Wheel chair parking, mobility scooters available to hire. Picnic area and indoor seating, toilets are in the building as you enter so ask little ones before the long walks around.
F. T.
This is a beautiful reserve. Plenty of trails and great wildlife. The coffee shop and visitor centre is a brilliant place to stop for a drink and bite to eat. RSPB membership is £5 for a family and this is the fee to park, so if you plan to go regularly it's great value too.
R. W.
What a great place to visit! The staff are so knowledgeable and it is just fascinating, as well as lovely walking. Saw several egrets which were beautiful and new to me (other than on TV). Loved it. The poplar sphinx moths were spectacular.
I. K.
Lovely place for a walk with a good chance of seeing some birds
G. G.
Beautiful place to walk and enjoy the views. Be mindful if you're taking a dog as they can only be walked on the exterior route around the perimeter of the wetlands and the route is 6km. Gorgeous views of the Severn from the East Lighthouse at the far side of the wetlands
S. S.
We mostly visit this Wetland reserve as an advantage of living close by. It's beautiful and breathtaking place. There fish pond, light house, birds, berries and birds sight seeing place and nice scenery. Great place for walk, bird sighting, fish feeding and fresh air.
G. B.
Very quiet and easy flat walk for all ages
C. S.
Absolutely love the place. I travel often now to this place the visitor centre and cafe is really good and very clean. Staff are great. PLEASE DO SOME VEGAN FOOD!! its really sad in a place like this that the food on the menu isn't more eco friendly or animal friendly. I can never have anything except a coffee which is sad as I love the place. The views and wetlands are amazing and suitable for all depending on the route you take. I really like the hides even the smaller ones are really good and so handy.
D. J.
Stunning place - easy for walks with well maintained paths, plenty of room to get away from it all and lots of wildlife. Visitors centre an interesting place with great coffee. Friendly and polite staff and volunteers.
K. T.
Well maintained site with nice facilities. Good for a walk on well made paths. Not much bird life on show, but to be expected at this time of year. Waders in The Severn but a long way off so hard to distinguish without powerful binoculars or a scope.
H. P.
Lovely place for seeing nature . Plenty for the children to do. Very Covid safe and helpful and friendly staff
V. P.
Incredibly helpful welcoming staff, wonderful surroundings. We didn’t have long this time but will be back! 🦅 🦢 🐦
L. H.
Wonderful place. Peaceful, unspoiled. Plenty of parking and excellent cafe. Great resource with loads of info if you love birds. Well worth a visit.
L. F.
First visit to this lovely place. Took the grandchildren on an Easter egg hunt, but being a bit cold we didn't see much wildlife. If you are looking for a couple of hours out I highly recommend
F. T.
Lovely spot for a walk in nature, next to the coast. Plenty of birdlife to see, obviously. Great views of the Severn channel. Good facilities, gift shop and cafe.
E. P.
Friendly staff, well made paths. Could do with some coloured markers to match the route colours on the map. Tea, cake and sandwiches from the rspb cafe were all excellent, and they were happy to fill water bottles too.
P. P.
Wonderful wild walk, slightly marred by the couple with a mobile discotheque who appeared determined to follow us to the bitter end.
Notwithstanding, we spotted a stoat, and a swimming grass snake. Not a bad day out!
I.
Lovely place.Fairly busy when I was there on a Saturday. Great for a wander round the wetlands and great views over the Severn. First thing to note is that the car park fee is £3, payable in a machine in the visitor centre using correct change only. Also, the car park is locked at 5pm (or dusk if earlier) and you can't leave after that. Nice visitor centre, lovely cafe - great cakes.
R. J.
Lovely place for a stroll especially if the sun is shining. They have a lovely coffee shop too with indoor seating and a great view of the wetlands.
S. F.
Always a lovely day. Did the dog walk along the perimeter
A. M.
Fantastic spot a little off the beaten path. Lovely cafe and shop with excellent food and great views over a pond with various birds and ducks to be seen. The knowledgeable staff will happily fill you in on the birds that can be seen at the time.
There are also several walks of varying lengths through reed beds and over pontoon style bridges with hides at different points where you can settle down and watch the wildlife. Apparently they have a resident otter but I didn't get to see it... There are guided walks organized from time to time which are well worth joining - check the RSPB website for details.
There is a children's playground to keep the youngsters occupied... But remember to bring wellies or good hiking boots if it has been raining recently - some of the paths can get muddy.
K. T.
Very accessible with lots of beautiful views and birds to enjoy
L. A.
Lovely place for a relaxing couple of hours or a full day out. Restricted areas at the moment due to Covid so visitor centre, toilets etc are closed but there’s plenty of parking and plenty of space. Beautiful view across Severn Estuary near the lighthouse. Well worth a visit.
C. F.
Great for a walk and great if you're a bird spotter, lots to see, lots of paths to walk depending on how long you want to stay. Only downside is car park is £3 if a non member which isn't a massive price. But it's a steep hike when you go a few times a year and it was free and suddenly you have to pay. Got a nice cafe and visitor centre. My only note is that the staff are a little pushy with asking you to become a member I've been and even after i asked where the bathrooms are.
S. C.
Love the place. Lovely walks. Nice food. Picnic areas, staff gave lots of knowledge
N. D.
Lovely staff giving informed meet and greet.
Great footpaths and variation of ground types.
Lovely cafe and well served
K. J.
I love coming here during all seasons. Wildlife is incredible, scenery is fantastic and it's wonderful to breath in the nice fresh air.
Parking is free and there is a nice little coffee shop to crab a hot drink after the walk. Staff are friendly and you might even see a bird that you have never seen before 😉.
K. R.
Nice quiet day, no screaming kids everywhere now the park has gone. Will be interesting to see how the RSPB manages the reed beds to tempt more wildlife in.
j. a.
Excellent day out for the kids to go exploring looking for bugs and birds etc and good walks for the fir or not so fit all flat along the seawall and through fields and hedgerows, would have got 5 stars but some of the paths have large uneven coverings where my wife fell over and injured her arm, apart from that very well done wetlands👍
A. P.
Lovely place shame about the pilons nearby which ruins the nature vibe, apart from that great walks and a park for the kids to run around climb on the boat and zip line. If your in to photography this is a great place to visit as lots of wildlife swimming, flying, wadaling around ready to be snapped. If you've not experienced this place before it would definitely recommend a visit. Helpful and friendly staff, also supplies good and drink here with a reasonable cost if you don't want to bring food or drinks with you. Fun day out for all.
B. J.
Lovely place for walks but not really if you have a dog. My son has a dog and it had to be kept on a lead at all times, and as the dog was with us we were restricted to limited pathways.
No litter or poo bins so have to carry it back to the car. Not even a bin outside the café/shop but there is dog water bowls! Hence as you're walking around you may see the plastic bags with poo that others have left behind.
Just provide a blinking bin!!!
Café nice, clean and good coffee. Not cheap (as normal these days). Lots of nick knacks for souvenirs and the kids.
If you want a nice new pair of binoculars or telescopic devices, then they have a reasonable range on offer. Check price of what you want first!
There is a playground for the kids but not everything works and it's best to keep an eye on the kids as it's open to anyone.
N. S.
We visited when the rain was pouring so we didn't see many birds. We did see a Kingfisher whilst looking out the window in the cafe. We have a 2 year old so did the shorter walk but it was lovely and lots of puddles to jump in.
J. B.
On a quieter day it would be easier to absorb the ornithological ambience. This was Saturday and many parents were there with kids. Only £3 to park and no other entrance fee. Food in cafe was good but a long wait and charmingly amateurish messing up of the order but getting it right after 45 minutes. No signal indoors in cafe and no wifi either which won't do in 2019. Not that many birds or otters in view but it's hard to complain at something cheerfully supplied for so little and it had its moments.
b.
Great walks from 30min up to a couple of hours on the marked routes. Lots of wildlife and well maintained tracks. Car park gets locked at 5pm though so if you want to stay longer or wander in the evening you need to park outside somewhere.
L. M.
Such a lovely place to visit and staff a so helpful. If you need to you can book a mobility scooter for your visit.
R. M.
Good walks and cycle rides a few miles long. Only half mile to lighthouse with view of estuary although longer route for bicycle 1 1/2 miles each way was signposted. Longer routes also signposted.
Centre a few minutes walk from car park has cafe toilets and viewing places.
No signs to overall location until you are within a few hundred yards.
Signposting not very clear within area. Easy to find your way around after walking through. Best to walk straight through to estuary first.
Overgrown with reeds with a few areas of open water. I saw hardly any birds in 1 1/2 hours there (1 bird only I think). I enjoyed the walks and views of the estuary.
Car park locked at 5:30 pm daily or earlier in winter. So you have to watch the clock when there.
Overall a reasonable experience. There are probably more birds to be seen at different times of the day and year. Most places of a similar nature have a good selection of birds to see at any time so rather disappointing on this occasion.
S. G.
Very extensive wetlands with walks down to and along the sea wall with its unique land/sea-scape. Very nice visitor centre. Which is free to access (apart from the £3 parking fee, which you can avoid by parking on the road a short distance away.) I'm sure the bird life is also extremely interesting and varied but, not being a huge bird watcher this interested me less personally.
S. F.
This is a great place for walks to get fresh air and look at the scenery and wildlife. I have been visiting for many years, the RSPB centre staff are friendly and helpful, the toilets Re clean and the cafe is good if a little pricey but they have to make some money. For toddlers BN you have a little play area with a short zip wire. I love visiting and now bring my little baby.
M.
A wonderful place where you can explore nature safely. I gladly recommend it. Feel free to visit it if you are passing through Newport.
D. W.
Arrangements are a little different with Covid - parking is free but the visitors' centre is closed. The staff are friendly and the paths amidst the reed beds are always atmospheric. We loved this place and were happy to make a generous donation to the RSPB on the way out.
R. W.
An enjoyable day out with a variety of wildlife. I tend to spend the morning at Goldcliff Lagoons then the afternoon on the main reserve.
M.
Fantastic walks at the Wetlands. An RSPB volunteer allowed us to look at the various moths following the previous evening count - very interesting and insightful 😁
K. P.
Lovely place to go for long walks, nice little park for the kiddies, cafe a bit on the pricey side, but their are plenty of places to sit and have a picnic, some lovely bits in the gift shop too
A. B.
Nice site, plenty to see if you have time. We have nice walk with our baby girl (on trike). Nice food. On side. Great place for photo shots
B. P.
Idyllic reserve with a variety of habitats and pretty walks. Volunteers were excellent with children and very knowledgeable. Bring the binoculars.
T. S.
Excellent, wouldn't believe it's so close to Newport. Daughter loved it and it is very peaceful. Good place to chill out and explore nature.
K. J.
Lovely place to walk and learn about the diverse nature of the gwent levels. Also some great workshops for children during the school holidays.
P. H.
Fabulous place for a walk although VERY windy and you don't really see many birds!
p. e.
Took Our Grandaughter Pond dipping today. She loved it. The whole team were amazing with Her. Highly recommended
D. A.
Well worth a visit.
P. P.
Great place for a bit of nature spotting. Not to spoiled and has a nice natural feel. Great for riding with young children. And some lovely views across the channel.
N. F. P.
The Newport wetlands has plenty to offer - a great choice of walks with wonderful coastal views, (dogs must be kept on a lead!) and the East Usk Lighthouse. Take your binoculars, or a camera - loads to see! Then drop into the visitor centre for gifts, books, or a drink and some snacks.
n. p.
You don't have to be a twitcher to enjoy the walks mainly flat. Take your Polaroids to see the sholes of rudd and roach from the ealk-ways.
M. i.
Stunning place, boucle floating walk way, miles of grass or reeds or,,, well green grassy reedy things, nice random concrete things to sit on,,, gud!! 13 out of 17 rasta badges
M. N.
Great place for birdwatching or for a walk with the family. Lots of species of birds, very well kept. People at the visitor centre are very helpful, there is also a nice coffee shop. Really enjoyed my day here
T. P.
A great place to visit: parking is reasonable and you can spend a long time there due to the various walking routes. The cafe is great, too: its walls are mainly glass, allowing you to look out over the wetlands.
S. P.
Lovely quiet refuge, not just for birdwatchers! Cafe is very popular so service can take a while if it's busy, but the views from the cafe are glorious.
p. l.
A peaceful haven for nature. Helpful, friendly staff. Particular thanks to the shop team, who looked after our shopping while we walked around the wetlands. Close up view of a Swan. Next time we will come when the cafe is open!
S. W. (.
An absolutely lovely day out, with a little park and great scenery children and adults alike find a great day activity here.
L. C.
Great place to go not many people nice walk lots of birds and wildlife around.
J. T.
If you want an easy walk on the coast with some ducks, swans and lots of vegetation around then this is for you. Very friendly staff and a decent cafe with clean toilets, accessible by pram/pushchair, gets windy so bring a jacket. Wish some of the other tracks were serviceable. They could have commissioned a local artist for actual sculptures for the sculpture trail and made it more interesting.
K. B.
Good place for walk. Dogs allowed but different paths and on the lead only. Prepare yourself for no poo bins.
m. h.
This is the first time I have been to the Wetlands and I enjoyed every minute .
I would highly recommend the visit.
You still have to wear masks whilst waiting to go into the cafe and you also still have to fill in the Track and Trace
In written form.
You can spend at least 4 hours enjoying yourselves. There are activities for children and guided walks.
P. T.
Gorgeous retreat, just a few minutes drive from Newport. Can't wait to explore more, wish it was open past 5 so I could go after work & enjoy sunset!
F. J.
Such an interesting place. Great visitor centre, cafe shop and loos. Well organised for distancing etc. Mostly flat paths with accessibility for wheelchair users and pushchairs. Lovely day out for a walk and views. Recommend a visit. Easy trip for me from Bristol.
m. c.
Seagull with broken win on my flat roof. Called and they said they couldn't help. No guidance on who to call. No help offered. Not a charity I'll continue to donate to.
S. B. D. “.
A fabulous area to visit and take in nature. Lots of various species of birds and sights to see such as a lighthouse, wobbly bridge that kids love. If its just a walk, plenty of space to walk around and get some fresh air whilst stretching those legs. Don't forget to help the RSPB maintain the area with a donation, it all helps maintain the area.
R. R.
Fabulous morning spent drinking coffee and watching the birds from the cafe windows. My dad has Alzheimer's and lived the calming and relaxing atmosphere here. We'll definitely be going back x
D. H.
A lovely place and setting to go and just unwind and relax enjoy the wildlife and fresh sea air.
M. T.
Fantastic place to walk around and see some wildlife. The kids loved it too
S. M.
The visitors centre has toilets and a shop and cafe, the freshly made sandwiches were great. Enjoyed walking on the floating pontoons and plenty of wildlife to see. Car park is £3 and get token from the hut by the visitors centre.
S. B.
Very good nature reserve
Peaceful walk and flat
F. S.
Fantastic walks, reasonably priced parking! And a really friendly member of staff named Jonathan helped us and we had a fantastic time!
C. C.
Great place, such an amazing wealth of insects and wildlife. Good dog walking too but please make signage towards the end of the route clearer for dog owners. Embarrassing to be told off when you didn't realise it was a 'no dog' path. And to all dog owners, pick up the poo!!
R. F.
A place to get out in the open and relieve any stress or worries you may have. Somewhere you can pause the rat race of life and just relax.
C. “. m. M.
Good car park £ 3 . Pay to exit. Token from cafe . No dogs allowed in cafe! . So they lost 6 customers. Unable to comment on food . Why have a dog walk route if dogs not allowed in or by cafe. Dog walk is quite long and no short cut though centre. No warning of this ban .
A.
It is a unique landscape with walker friendly marked pathways through the reeds and waterways up to the sea. The shop and cafe are housed in a discrete building that blends into the surrounding and provides simple refreshments and good giftty stuff by friendly helpful staff there is an RSPB stall with knowledgeable helpers. The site is on the route of the Wales coast path which is how we found it by walking by. Great day out for all the family.
P. D.
Well worth the trip. Very enjoyable few hours with simple pleasures of walking, nature and a bird or two. Free admission to the wetlands with helpful volunteers full of enthusiasm and good knowledge. Wasn't a great day for spotting birds, but did see some wonderful deep blue dragonflies, as we were there just to take in the experience.
P. D.
Situated adjacent to the Severn and Usk estuaries, the RSPB Wetlands is beautiful, wild, spacious and welcoming. The area is connected by coloured, marked walks; short ones and longer ones with chances to say "Hello" to other visitors as well as trying to find all kinds of wildlife. With a Visitor Centre, restaurant and shop the experience is complete.
K. K.
Nicely restored area for walks, picnics and viewing the wildlife. Great views of the estuary on a sunny day. Visitor centre with cafe. Accessible in a wheelchair with one more challenging slope (zig-zag path next to it) as you head to the coast.
G. W.
You wouldn't believe it 2 min away from lanwern steel works
J. C.
Beautiful! A must visit and lovely staff. Huge variety of birds and insects 😌
S. J.
Bitterns breed here, first time in over 200 years in Wales, really important place!
R. L.
Friendly and helpful staff although the restaurant seems not to be very aware of gluten free options, although it does in fact have some.
Good network of walkways and at least one pretty decent hide. There is some heathland habitat as well as wetlands.
R. B.
Please update your website to show the opening times of the cafe as we visited today and it was closed, very disappointed as there were 6 of us, all members too.Still did a walk and the volunteers are always helpful but you will lose a lot of business/ visitors. Why not close the cafe on a Mon & Tues instead of Thurs & Fri as these are usually quieter days generally.
D. M.
A real gem in an unexpected location...friendly staff in cafe and shop...will be revisiting v soon
C. S.
Great day with my class! Thank you to Emma for making it interesting and relevant to the children.
N. R.
Massive wildlife reserve manned by real friendly rspb staff
S. H. D.
Beautiful views of the Channel and a great opportunity to get snapping.
E. D.
If you’re ever looking for a peaceful flat walk in this area then the wetlands will provide all. I’d recommend going on a day with plenty of wind to listen to the constant thrashing of bullrush.
R. W.
Absolutely on the money can definitely say I will be a regular visitor 10/10
I. D.
Fun day out with plenty of wildlife on offer if you're patient enough to look for it. A variety of different routes available to walk and should be enough to keep kids engaged for an hour or two too if you're lucky!
Y. W.
Nice for a long walk along the water with nice views.
K. A.
A really lovely place to take a walk and see the water wild life. The cafe is also open and offering a good selection. There are a number of well marked walks that will suit anyone. Good pram walking area. Car parking at cost unless one is a RSPB member.
B. C.
We had a lovely walk here last weekend. The trails are pushchair friendly which was a huge plus. Its nice to have a clear choice of different length walks and their approximate times. At the moment the car park is free although at normally £4 which goes to the rspb the normal fee seems worth it.
K. D.
Lovely beautiful place for a nice peaceful walk and wildlife spotting. The staff in the visitor centre are great and really helpful, and the shop is fab. Some really lovely walks. As a member you don’t pay for parking, which is great. Only a small parking charge if you’re not, which goes to the charity, so definitely worth it. We’ve recently got dogs, but still love going, as they love the long walk around the outside of the reserve, along the coastal path. There are also tables and dog water bowls outside the main entrance if you want to order from the cafe with doggies.
A. G.
Very nice place to go in the summer for a walk around, it's £3 to park, you can wonder around the site see any birds that have flew over for the summer, they have some good information panels explaining what you might see, there is a walk way is suitable for wheel chairs. It's a nice little day out, you can spend a couple hours walking around.
J. W.
Wonderful views, wildlife and friendly staff.
g. w.
Absolutely amazing place. Great walks, lots of Birds. Nice big visitors centre.
A. E.
The estuary side of the RSPB Wetlands Newport provides good water birdwatching.
However the actual reserve is so heavily reeded that not many birds could be spotted.
Extremely informative and helpful RSPB staff enhanced the experience.
L. M.
Lovely quiet haven...easily accessible for pushchairs/wheelchairs. Super cafe with delicious cake and helpful staff.
T. A. M.
A great family walk. Very vast and full of wildlife
C.
Been here a couple of times with the kids and on a nice sunny day it makes for a nice afternoon out in the fresh air.
However, beware of some of the staff, I found them to be rude, which was surprising.
j. p.
It's all in the title really. Except....I didn't know that they have 3 disability scooters that you can borrow. I used my own boot scooter and almost rattled myself to death!
M. P.
Went for a peaceful evening walk yesterday with my mum to offer her some relief during the Covid-19 pandemic. Set off about 7.30pm and almost had the place to ourselves. With warm, summer weather this place always offers rewarding walks with spectacular views across the estuary. The visitor centre is currently closed but you're hard pushed to find some nicer walks around Newport. This place is also dog friendly as well!
A. E.
Nice walk you got the wet lands sea front woodlands fab 4 hours out
C. D.
If this is the "amazon of Wales" as is often marketed or claimed in environmental debates, its very disappointing and underwhelming. You can hear fighter jets and helicopters doing their flight training on occasion as they fly directly overhead breaking the peaceful break you are hoping for (though this is infrequent). There are some birds, but hard to spot without patience and binoculars. Okay for a walk (nearly fully flat). There is a decent visitor centre but has been closed throughout the pandemic. Its too small and near a large city to feel truly "wild".
R. S.
Awesome place to visit was there yesterday staff very helpful and a great cafe with excellent food and drinks
G. T. T.
Superb for wildlife and photos .great for family's
P. W.
Beautiful place to visit.. Shop and café to sit and enjoy a bite to eat..
J. Y.
Lovely walks..
Highly recommended for all
A. L. p.
Enjoyed this day with neil and Linda and hope to do it again next time I go down
T.
Simply it's wonderful, beautiful location and simple but great facilities.
The cafe is small and does snacks and small lunch dishes. The food is simple but tastes delicious. Most of the ingredients seem to be organic and/or fair trade. You can taste the difference.
Staff are friendly and welcoming. The gift shop and cafe are located in a building overlooking a small lake. A large 3 sided glass wall allows you see the birds with ease. You can also sit with something from the cafe and watch the birds.
The whole facility is family friendly.
The reserved has all the family facilities including:
- Toilets
- Cafe

I would always walk around here at least once a week. We have stopped visiting so often since they have introduced parking charges.
It is a nice place for a stroll but can get busy on weekends.
L. A. A.
An amazing place for a walk and birdwatch. Perfect for all ages.
M. L.
A very peaceful place, Great for birdwatching or just coming for a coffee. The cafe does small refreshments and has a great view through a glass wall. It's always nice and clean with friendly staff that are ready to help.
You can get onto the trails 24/7 but the car park is only 8am-5:30pm
n. s.
Free entry to a great little RSPB centre with cafe with huge observation window overlooking a small lake & reed bed, ideal for armchair bird watchers. Lovely walks along well maintained paths through reed beds & along the estuary. Great for starling murmurations in winter. Parking free for members & not pricy if not.
G. P.
Very nice walking area, well laid out, car park is locked at 5.30 so if you are going for an evening walk, park outside. The playground is great. There is a dog walking path, and other paths are not meant for the dog walkers, however, I would suggest that this could be relaxed for older people walking dogs if they were under control and on leads - in order to cut through the middle as the perimeter is rather strenuous. The visitor centre is vey nice, with a coffee shop, if a little over-priced.

The RSPB Wetlands reserve in Newport is a great day out. £3 to park, free entry. Once playpark for kids, and a lovely walk round the reserve. During school holidays there are additional activities available for kids usually at a small charge, includes things like pond dipping, bird spotting, mega beast hunting. Nice cafe, or you can take a picnic and use the outdoor picnic tables. Lovely place to visit if your kids are at all outdoorsy or love nature. The reserve has recently had kingfishers and otters spotted which is brilliant for a place that's only a few miles down the road from Newport City Centre.
P. W.
What a lovely place to visit,so easy to find, the staff are so friendly, helpful and full of information about the wildlife. The walk around the wetland is easy going and lots to see, would definitely recommend going
N. K.
Lovely place to have walk around and a coffee and a cake at the end nice
B. J.
I love this place. Plenty of parking, decent cafe, helpful staff, fantastic views over to Somerset and North Devon. Unless you are a keen and patient bird watcher you will be lucky to spot the smaller birds but herons, egrets, swans and water fowl are usually pretty obvious. Many of the paths are free from dogs and cyclists which makes walking with younger children easier.
J. B.
Fabulous walks and a great cafe.
T. P.
Nice and flat and free entry. £3 car parking. Cafe with outside tables with a view. Recommended if you need some fresh air, views and interesting sounds (next door power station plus birds - one sounded like a kitten being repeatedly murdered but I know not what it was). Just go there!
M. E.
I’m a regular visitor to the wetlands never gets boring as there’s always plenty to see . However my last visit was very disappointing, thought we would try it with the dog and I appreciate there has to be another route for the dogs due to the different types of nature around the wetlands .The walk itself was still enjoyable but I was very disappointed that there was no dog waste bins anywhere around along the trail . Also my nephew and his 2 children have recently visited , being a single dad was left unable to change the young ones due to the baby changing rooms being in the ladies toilets .
a. r.
Good walks all round and friendly staff the cake in the cafe is amazing.
R. G.
Lovely place to have a walk, great for kids both from an educational side and a play side. Staff are really friendly and full of knowledge, the cafe is good sitting on the lake with views to all sides. Always see a lot of the wetland birds up close and personal on the feeders stationed near by. Worth the visit.
S. P.
Wonderful place for all the family, mostly on the flat a nice paths. Disabled parking. Beautiful tranquil view
V. W.
Lovely walks but not a lot of birds to see, still very pleasant, nice cafe looking over water and toilets and a shop there as well
T. G.
A beautiful way to connect to nature. Today we visited and walked around the wetlands. The wind was rustling through the reeds and there was lots of animals and insects to see. The highlights were, lots and lots of dragonflies and seeing a King Fisher. The car park is £3 but there is no other charges. If you are a member of the RSPB you can park for free. Well worth a look.
P. C.
Great wetland nature reserve with a fine visitor cafe. Good cafe and shop.
B. S.
Very over grown and for a nature reserve not much wild life
D. S.
We thoroughly enjoyed our tranquil family walk around the beautiful Newport Wetlands. The children took along their binoculars and had some fun taking part in spotting the local wildlife in their RSPB book and the little park was a nice touch. The car park on site has a fee of £3 but is completely free for RSPB members. There is a fairly large visitor centre with a lovely gift shop and cafe with food and drinks set at a reasonable price plus the staff are friendly and welcoming. Not bad for a couple hours out of the hustle and bustle of the city to entertain the children free of charge.
K. H.
Beautiful! Various walks through the place, info posts about what's around for those of us who aren't experts, visitor centre with excellent café. Get your car park token from the visitor centre, £3, bargain to help keep this place going. Pond dipping for children was happening when we were there too, and they let us have a quick look! :-)
A. C.
Very popular. Lovely to see insects and flora as well as birds. Only main paths open - no cafe/visitor centre although RSPB tent and volunteers at entrance. Parking free at present.
J. M.
One of the nicest stretches of Newport's coastal path. Great too for blackberry picking opportunities at the right time of year!
A. K.
A beautiful setting, the cafe has a great windowed area you can look out over the lake and see the local wildlife, we saw 13 ducklings being raised by a super-mum!
The area is so peaceful and well worth a visit to escape the busy city nearby.
A. C.
Lovely walk, long and relaxing.
A. C.
Quite hidden away, southeast of Newport at the end of country roads, this nature reserve is a delight, with extensive reed beds and circular walks along the flat coast and back inland. The visitor centre has very helpful staff, a small café with views over the reed marshes, and a gift/book shop. I've been thrice and will certainly go back a fourth, fifth, sixth time, etc, for its tranquility. Just as well then that the Welsh government in the end decided not to build the M4 Relief Road nearby (which would've cost over £1 billion, exhausting Wales's capital spending capacity at the time).
P. W.
Lovely walks around the wetlands, unfortunately didn't get to see too many birds but did see four beautiful swans. Great weather and really enjoyed it ☺
L. H.
Absolutely stunning place. Great for walks. Very few birds around. Really good cafe as well. Staff were friendly and helpful. Will be revisiting regularly
A. I. L.
A great day out and a beautiful place the wardens and volunteers are all good there's a cafe and a shop it has disabled access and the have mobility scooters to hire
V. B.
Lovely walk! Pram friendly. Little playground and hunt for the kids to do. A cafe and gift shop also. Don't forget token from shop to get out of car park! £3.
A. Q.
It's got amazing walks through the reserve and in spring and summer plenty of Birdlife to spot. However, dogs are not allowed on the reserve. There is a 6km walk around the reserve on which dogs and cycles are allowed it is mostly pretty flat and has a smooth gravel path along the majority of the route. You will need decent walking shoes and in winter certainly waterproof types. Well worth visiting.
S. S.
Great day out with the family but suitable for all ages.
A nice park for the children to play in, a beautiful area with lots to do and an onsite cafe with a revamped menu serving hot and cold snacks including Welsh Rarebit which was outstanding.
Free parking, free to walk around but feel free to make a donation to help support the RSPB and their cause
S. H.
Beautifully scenic place, very helpful staff, as well as the nature walks the wetlands has a children's park, picnic benches, gift shop and a delightful glass walled cafe overlooking the lake. Great place for a family day out, free entry to reserve, all you pay is for parking.
M. P.
This place is a very relaxing place to visit, plenty to do and see. It's right on the Bristol channel and there are some great views. It's a good day out. There's a pub by the church witch has good food and drinks not a bad price.
E. T. R. L.
Very special place indeed. While there's some industrial landscape, what you remember above all is the reedbeds, the Usk and Severn, the flowers and birdsong. Beautiful and gentle, flat walks on high quality paths. And a great Visitor Centre. Good quality car park, but small fee.
J. C.
A fantastic example of an rspb centre.
Excellent layout, well maintained, affordable cafe and really enthusiastic staff.
Had a great book recommendation and lots of assistance from the very knowledgeable Hannah at the front desk.
The walks are manageable by everybody, young to old with disability friendly access throughout.
Sensible footwear advised, and bring a coat, it's changeable by the coast!
There are some dog and dog free areas, which should help to suit everybody, all clearly marked on the map in the bilingual leaflet.
I'd suggest leaving several hours to enjoy the paths and extra for some tasty proper coffee in the cafe overlooking one of the bodies of water.
Serene and a break from the city, really easy to get to from the M4 and Newport city centre.
Bravo!
S. T.
Lovely place with great walks and rare wildlife!!!
M. D. T. W.
A beautiful area filled with lovely staff and helpful guides. Everyone seems to walk through with a smile on their face and you know that you're welcome. The food is traditional, and locally sourced, as well as the fact that they are accommodating if you have children.
A. W.
Nice walks, plenty of benches for a rest or to eat lunch and a nice cafe & shop though playground and quite a few footpaths closed off.
B. G.
What a wonderful gem to find! Only have to pay for parking. There is lovely little gift shop too.
Very spacious, there were a few different routes to walk. Could easily spend the take by taking pack lunch with you.
A. T.
We visited here in the midst of Covid 19 so unfortunately not all of the facilities were open. All of the trails were open though, there was plenty of parking (free for RSPB members, £3 if not a member I believe). There was a stall set up just past the entrance which was manned by a few volunteers from the RSPB who were super helpful and great with our two young daughters. The kids particularly loved the "wibbly wobbly bridge", and spotting "Grampy Rabbits Lighthouse" (thanks, Peppa?). We saw lots of wildlife, the highlight for me being the swans and rudd in the waters. A fantastic day out, and we can't wait to come back!
L. H.
Took my mum for her 90th birthday as a day out. She loved it all. Still talking about it a week later. Lovely cafe with big window looking out over the water, nice walks, friendly staff and good shop. A lovely day out.
S. O.
Nice day out plenty of good walks and nature to see
J. M.
Stunning coastline, well maintained paths, and a friendly welcome. A fantastic morning walk.
S. M.
Nice day out with the kids. The is a play part there but that is a little dated and one of the gates to the play park was broken so not too secure. There is a on site cafe that was nice and all the staff in the main building were lovely and helpful. There is parking, which you have to get a token from inside
K. W.
Absolutely amazing place. We bought a membership because we're there that often. Cafe is a little expensive but the reserve is free so it makes up for it. Great park for the kids and amazing views on the walks.
N. R.
Great afternoon, friendly, helpful staff, lovey cafe
B. M.
Nice walks lots of wildlife. Marked routes well maintained and accessible to all. Car park shuts at 5pm but you can still go in after just park outside.
C. D.
Great place for the family to visit. A lovely visitor centre and very friendly staff.
The cafe is great but can get very busy.
Please note parking is £3 for non RSPB members.
M. G.
Lovely visit
Plenty of space to walk and explore. Love going over the wobbly bridge.
We've also had some fantastic organised days for guiding there with our brownies
A. P.
Unfortunately we didn't get to spend long here, if we had there longer we may have seen more. As we visited with a dog we had to walk the perimeter of the site and the interior may have been more exciting?
G. H.
Dogs are allowed around the edge of the reserve which is a good thing but we have an elderly dog who ended up having to walk 5k because the signage isn't clear on the entrance where dogs are and are not permitted and the distances involved. Also there is a distinct lack of bins around the reserve so be prepared to carry dog mess with you.
T. P.
Dedicated staff and loyal followers. All working to improve the quality of the habitat and outdoor experience. High quality food and snacks. Great cuppa! Great way to get fresh air and exercise whilst connecting with nature.
A. C.
So much wildlife and so accessible. The play area can get water logged, and when that happens they close it for safety reasons. But then its unsurprising considering the location.
The cafe has the best view for somewhere I've ever had the pleasure of taking a coffee break in.
R. H.
Went taking my class of sixth form biologists. The education section could not have been more accommodating and did a great job showing sampling. The site us lovely and (when away from my pupils) very peaceful. The cafe also has a really nice view if a lake. Parking is 3pounds but this is paid for in the shop not at a machine. If you collect the RSPB badges they also have a board of rareties.
As looking after pupils not much time to look for wildlife but still saw; newts, many invertebrates and fish, nuthatch, grebes etc.
j. p.
Peacefull , place to gather your thoughts free to get in
A. E.
Impressive RSPB reserve. Having visited many of this charity's sites, this certainly ranks very highly. This is mainly due to its impressive facilities that have clearly had a good deal of money spent on them. The visitor center, toilets, shop and cafe were all warm, clean and well organised. The staff were all exceptionally friendly and the lady on the till in the cafe was extremely helpful with regards to my groups dietary needs (all vegan). The only downside to the center was the cafe seemed a little on the the small side during peak visitor times.
The reserve is fairly large with a good variety of bird species visible even to the most amateur of visitor. Pushed for time on a visit, we only walked through the reserve for an hour and saw mute swans and cygnets, mallards, coots, moorhens, shovelers, wigeon, reed bunting and oyster catchers. The only downside of the reserve is that the paths are a bit sterile for the keen wilderness lover, but this does mean that a large proportion of the reserve is accessible to wheelchair users
D. B.
Loved every minute. Friendly staff, lovely views over Severn Estuary. Great walks if you are fit, but can hire scooter. Spotted Dunlin, Curlew and Heron
L. B.
Although a beautiful place to visit as we have many times, today we visited with our puppy and saw a different view and lack of facilities . On walking the dog route as obviously not allowed where main wildlife areas are which we completely agree with we found not one single dog bin hense faeces and discarded poop bags in hedge rows which was absolutely disgusting . The cafe is inaccessible for dog walkers as theyre not allowed on that side of the site not even on the veranda outside and should you wish to use the toilet facilities these are also inaccessible unless you tie your dog at the front of the center building. Although a lovely walk this center is certainly NOT dog friendly
H.
Great place for a walk, quite a few route although badly sign posted, easy to find your way around and wander but some trails the signs just stop
C. H.
Love it here. Nice walks. Bikes welcome. Cafe lovely. There is a parking charge of £3, make sure you have the correct change!
R. P.
Lovely people, amazing place
N. P.
Nice for a walk but lucky to sight some o the species
R. W.
You want to unwind, relax, walk, talk, enjoy and just be at one with nature, this is the place for you. Staff are great too, but the birds and location are greater still.
E. T.
A fabulous place to see wildlife and walk. I would highly recommend. Nice play area for the children. Lovely visitor centre with friendly staff.
S. F.
Nicely kept, loads of notice boards for the kids to look at to tell them (and me!) What to look for or to help identify things we'd spotted. Good little play park too. Picnic benches and a cafe. We will be frequent visitors over the summer.
P. N.
WELL WORTH A VISIT. GREAT SKIES, GOOD BIRD SIGHTINGS OUT OVER THE ESTURY. A STRIKING MIX OF INDUSTRIAL AND THE NATURAL WORLD.
C. L. M.
Really relaxing place to go for a walk
L. K.
Well kepts grounds with walks of varying lengths. Our kids love heading for the lighthouse via the bouncy walkways then walking to the left and back to the visitors centre (about 2 miles) where we have a picnic, play on the zip line and sometimes grab a coffee from the cafe. Food is really good and freshly made. The buzzing overhead power cables leading from nearby Nash powerstation add a little novelty/concern but the range of birds and chance to get a blast of fresh sea air is the real draw of the Wetlands Reserve.
l. r. (.
Had a lovely time here today, despite the weather being a bit wet. Had a lovely walk around the wetlands taking some photos. Met up with Gavin from living levels and found out lots about the gwent levels and the thing they do to help.
E. W.
Lovely walks. Nice cafe. Toilets now open. Great family day out.
b. p.
Beautiful walk for anybody whether you have children or dogs or just fancy a stroll. Great views and gorgeous little coffee shop for a rest
C. S.
Lovely walk Gordon's and us.
D. F.
Great place for a walk and to see the wildlife, lovely cafe for post walk chat.
O. A.
It’s a good place for a long walk
J. D.
Stunning, peaceful, loads of space, wildlife everywhere and it's free!
L. B.
Very peaceful to walk around, great along the coastal section, and a lighthouse, what more could one ask! Rent a pair of binoculars, or bring your own, and do a bit of birdwatching.
P. M.
Went there for the day just outside Newport near retail park amazing place wetlands have many points to see the wildlife suitable for all ages and abilities definitely well worth a visit. Children play area and cafe and shop
M. K.
Having a phobia of electricity pylons, this was not the best place for a walk. We had a dog and had to go around the perimeter, which involves passing many pylons. Good for the pylon enthusiast!!
M. H.
Parking for 3£, you must buy token close to the entrance in machine. Coffee must buy before 4pm, because it will be closed... You can see many birds and many pieces of insects. But very close to the power station :(
P. M.
Beautiful and free. This place was built to compensate for the loss of habitat when damming Cardiff bay. Good cafe, sea views, loads of birds, playground and all free. Recommended.
G. P.
Great bird sanctuary where you can walk on the flat through different habitats. Childrens play ground is very muddy in wet weather. Large popular café serving light snacks. Small RSPB shop.
S. F.
Didn't see much but the rubber bridge was good
D. O.
Excellent visitor centre from rspb. Nice food and drink with views over pond with lots of wildlife. Plenty of walks for families. Walks around the perimeter if you want to take the dog. Shop in visitor centre for rspb goods.
R. C.
Always great to walk around and enjoy nature
c. p.
Well I would to say how peaceful and wonderful place you can walk and feel the see some of the beautiful wildlife wonderful
K. P.
Great place to visit and to take a walk for a couple hours
M. W.
Visited the shop, which is now open to purchase binoculars.(gift for granddaughter)
Knowledgeable shop assistant.
Excellent service
D. B.
A very pleasant place to wander around. There is a lovely cafe so at the end of the walk you can partake of cake and coffee. The staff are very pleasant and helpful.
S. K.
Beautiful scenery however the dog route is basically a overgrown muddy tractor path that is poorly signed posted and is basically a way for them to grudgingly accommodate dog walkers without actually allowing them into the wetlands.
It has no relief route back to the car park so if you get half way around the circumference and realise it's too long or you need to get back you are essentially cut off. As was the case while walking with my 86 yr old grandmother who had a funny turn half way around so I had to cut through only to experience dirty looks and get harassed by a cantankerous old man.
There are other options rather than condemning dog walkers to the outskirts of the park and responsible dog walkers should not be ostracised because of irresponsible ones.
O. J.
Nice for an hour out and handy that there are paths to walk dogs, however my main criticism is that there are no dog waste bins on said paths, resulting in people either not picking up after their dogs or leaving the bags on the path - not good.
P. C.
Not the most interesting of walks, but lovely view out the Wetlands. Parking was free during Covid opening times.
B. D.
Gets better all the time. The paths outside the Reserve, across the Newport Wetlands, and along the coast, seem to be much better waymarked than I remember them being a couple of years ago. Lovely area.
J. O.
If you want peace and quiet don't go in half term ( sorry Mums n Dads). If you're a serious bird watcher it's fantastic when quiet
H. B.
Lovely place just a shame one woman at the café today spoke to my sister and I like we were school children for feeding our children sandwiches in the café despite spending around 15 pound on drinks crisps and ice-cream. The woman also basically spoke to a three year old child harshly over a toy she thought she had stolen from the shop. Her attitude was bad. Needs some ppl skills!
D. B.
Very enjoyable walk and very nice people at the RSPB centre. If you don't see much wildlife it's always nice to watch what's happening on the estuary
D. E.
I like going for a jog here. The outside track from car park to car park is roughly 5km. Nice fresh air away from the pollution of road running and great views to enjoy along the way.
G. B.
We were given good advice about finding a little owl and I got some good photos. Had a good lunch too. There are plans to put a motorway through here I think. That would be criminal destruction.
J. I. C. S. !.
Great place to take children. Lots to do out doors like bird spotting and long walks. Large play area and a restaurant near lake.
M. H.
Great site for walking as well as bird watching. Fab cafe too
K. s.
Not the best day for seeing birds but still a great place to walk around
J. S.
3 pound all day parking. High restriction 2.0m. Beautiful place to visit.
J. B.
Beautiful, stunning area and the tour guide was brilliant
K. L.
Brill place! Thr kids love it here!
Today we did the Dino dig which the kids thoroughly enjoyed!- from digging dinosaur bones to making mud huts and to bug hunting! Fab visit!

It's a nice walk and staff are friendly, but saw zero wild birds!
L.
Lovely place for a walk plenty of parking 3 pound for all day
R. “. E.
Great place for all the family to enjoy. You can walk along the paths or cycle around the perimeter. There is also a visitor center that holds events through the year.
A. T.
Costal walks and water ways with hides to watch birds from and a lovely cafe with bird feeders and a pond, also children's play area. Well worth a visit
c. l.
The day i visited this site was so windyand there wasnt too much about.. Did see a few wading birds from the lighthouse area. Got some decent pics on the bird feeders near the centre. Greenfinches, goldfinch, Blue tit, Pheasant. Will def visit again. I am disabled but this wetland has def done its homework to cater for disabled visitors. Staff were so helpfull
n. e.
Nice! And free. Probably went at the wrong time of year though - freezing and windy. Nice to see some swans and cool birds. Wish I saw an otter!
T. T.
Lovely walk by the estuary, lots of birds, visitor center and cafe
D. P. R.
A nice place for a daily walk. I haven't been here before Covid so can't comment on the impressive looking facilities here.
G. S.
Lovely scenic walk around the wetlands. Limited access for dog walkers though.
M. T.
No children's play area, but shown on site map. Just an overgrown enclosed area.
N. D.
Newport Wetlands National Nature Reserve is an area purchased by the Cardiff Bay Development Corporation in reparation for the loss of three Important SSSI sites in the development area.
Although the loss of the SSSI sites can never be recovered the Wetlands NNR does give back some fine open spaces for the use of the Welsh people.
The large area of land encompassed by the reserve has opened up access to the Birds and wildlife that were mostly already present in the landscape. Targeted land management has improved the overall site and attracted some additional species.
It is jointly managed by Natural Resources Wales, Newport Council and the RSPB, (RSPB handles the public face of the reserve with the Visitor Centre and its immediate surroundings)
Birders should head for the east end of the reserve to the less developed Goldcliff Lagoons, (maps available at RSPB Centre), for the birds and wildlife in and around three Saline lagoons, (best around High tide), viewable from a number of Hides and Viewing platforms.
The Uskmouth Lagoons are freshwater habitat at the West End of the reserve (between the visitor centre and the sea), and is general scrub and extensive Reed beds that contain some rarer species of Birds and mammals.
The centre of the reserve area comprises Traditional Wet Grassland of the Gwent Levels and there is a large two story Hide at Red House Barns
The Wales Coast Path runs around/through the reserve in places, and Dogs and cycles are limited to these specific routes.
Visitor Centre is Open 09:00 to 17:00 every day bar 25th December with the Cafe open from 10:00 to 16:00
RSPB have recently started to charge for the use of the Car Park, A charge of £3 is being charged to non RSPB members. Exit is by ticket only available from the Centre
I do not understand this as it goes against the whole ethos of the reserve, which was of course given to the People of wales in reparation of the lost sites in Cardiff bay. Also as the car park was in place prior to the RSPB centre being built It is not something that they have provided so should not be charging for it's use
A. S.
I enjoyed the walk around which took me to a lighthouse and by the beach. Very steep slopes that claim to be wheelchair accessible but probably aren't.
C. F.
A great selection of flat walks. Lovely views of the River Severn and the entrance to the river Usk. Well worth a visit.
H. D.
A great place for a walk with good views and bird watching. Cafe, toilets and shop.

An oasis of peace by the Welsh banks of the river Severn. A remarkable setting, whatever time of year. Knowledgeable staff take a genuine interest in the conservation work they contribute to.
