We've been dealing with B+K for years for selling properties in Bristol. They've been very efficient and always responding professionally. We are dealing with them now for a different matter and their response has been extremely disappointing. Unprofessional, without any regards for our requirements. They demand upfront payment when engaging with one of their senior solicitors and the follow up has been nil, zero after nearly 2 weeks. We find ourselves in the position where having wasted that upfront fee (not cheap),are looking elsewhere for someone to represent our small business. As an edited post I have to add that BK did eventually get back to us . They are dealing with our matter in a professional and efficient way at the moment and hopefully will continue to do so. I hope that in the future, communication with clients is improved at the initial stages.

I was mostly happy with the service provided by Fiona at Barcan&Kirby. She led us through the case, explained when we didn’t understand and was thorough in providing expert witnesses to consider the case. Our only gripe was attention to detail in documents: incorrect dates, names spelt wrong etc. It meant on occasions we had the impression of sloppiness and as my mother was dying this was extremely distressing to her, to think her case wasn’t important enough to get details right. I’d use Fiona again, but I’d be diligent in checking through documents and I really think it’s the job of the solicitors.

I engaged in a very contentious divorce & Hanni Pennelegion & her team were able to diffuse and sort through the nonsense from the other side & provide me with an amazing service. I got a great sense of friendliness and efficiency right from my first call to Barcan & Kirby and that welcoming feeling was maintained all the way through - one the phone and in the offices. So there is evidently a great culture of excellent customer experience and engaged staff who are happy enough to deliver great service. I chose Barcan + Kirby due to their presence in my local area of Bristol. I'm very glad that I did, as from the initial phone call, an appointment / consultation was made very quickly. I immediately felt safe and confident that I'd made the right choice. I don't wish to go into too much detail, but my case was to do with clinical negligence (a misdiagnosis resulting in further long-term inconvenience and injury - an un-noticed achilles tendon rupture). I'd never made a claim in my life before, so I was nervous and apprehensive at first, but I was briefed quite thoroughly in an easy-to-understand way about what going forth with the case would entail. My personal solicitor was Fiona Dabell - she showed sympathy towards my situation whilst remaining very professional. All emails and calls were answered swiftly and I was updated as things progressed. The case was quite long (over a year), but this is the nature of such a case as many consultations and medical reports are required. Personally, I appreciate this kind of thorough approach as, if one is going to go ahead with this kind of action, then no stone should be left unturned. We (my wife and I) contacted Barcan+Kirby Solicitors with the need for legal advice for a property issue we were having with our neighbours which had plagued our lives for near two years prior. The Customer Relations Team were very understanding and actually listened to what we had to say, and, they were both, friendly and supportive of our situation. Their professional manner was excellent, as rather than pass me around between departments, they found the correct department, spoke to them on my behalf and then offered us dates to setup a appointment with the suitable party that could handle our case, all this in a couple of minutes whilst we were on the phone with them for the first time. They were also accommodating to the fact that my wife’s disability meant that we could not travel into Bristol city centre for the appointment and rather wanted to hold it at their Kingswood branch as it was right around the corner from us. Again, the person on the phone was accommodating and took it upon themselves to check with their colleague about dates and times, and, sure enough, they were able to arrange the appointment to take place at requested branch. With regards to costs associated, Barcan+Kirby Solicitors were, and always have been, up front and honest of the costs associated and they even offered us a reduced rather for the first appointment which was well received on our part. The initial appointment itself was very useful and well worth the money spent. Miss Sharlie Sollars, an Associate at Barcan+Kirby Solicitors, with whom we spoke to at the appointment was very professional but also sympathetic and supportive to our plight. We explained our issue, the troubles we had already had and are currently having and she was able to diligently formulate the legal routes we could take to potential remedy the situation, thoroughly running us through both, pros and cons of each option. She then also clearly defined the scope of work that would be required for each option and the associated costs, offering options of setting up a lump sum pot from which funds could be withdrawn etc. All in all, we walked away more informed then we had been previously, and, armed with the information provided, we are now also in talks with our insurance provider to potentially support the legal costs associated with trying to resolve the conflict, should it go to court. Since, then I have been in touch with the team at Barcan+Kirby Solicitors a couple of time with regards to follow-on queries and have always had my questions answered. Areas of improvement needed: Generally, speaking the service is great, however, a couple of areas of improvement/focus should be the response times to follow-on queries, and, forward contact with the person(s) you actually have an appointment with. Follow-on queries don’t seem to receive the same attention or expedience as those where money is being discussed. Getting a simple response at times is rather slow, and, in my humble opinion, does not feel like it is given the attention that is required; this considering the fact that often times the standard 5-7 days for a reply is not met, not just for emails but as call back requests. Lastly, although contact details are openly provided for the person(s) with whom you had a face to appointment with, getting in with them touch after the fact, be it via phone or email, seems near impossible (again, expect where queries for billable work is concerned). Considering you, as a customer, build a rapport with said person(s) and look forward to working with them, you are often contacted by intermediaries or other representatives, which although helpful and appreciated, is not what you expect. Hence, if these two aspects could be improved, the service provided would in my opinion be as excellent.
