McVey & Murricane were recommended by my financial adviser to carry out the conveyancing work during a re-mortgage. I can highly recommend the services of this firm. Communication was clear and replies were prompt. The instructions were given at every step of the process via email where you can access an online portal to interact with McVey & Murricane, this portal was very simple to use. They phoned you if necessary to clarify any matters. Where physical documents had to be signed you are offered the choice of printing an emailed copy of the document to return via post, or if this is not an option for you the document can be requested via the post. Something I i felt was a very nice touch was how the firm highlighted important information in the documents they sent and how they used the formatting and colouring. This made the information easy to read and understand. I will be keeping McVey & Murricane in mind for any future needs

However, even things become complex or difficult, that is when you have a true test of the character traits of a conveyancing firm. In my case, a manifest error on the part of my broker caused major difficulties in achieving completion. McVey and Murricane responded by fighting my corner robustly, with senior partner Allan Rudlow contacting me with regular updates and providing his personal contact details. Also assisting was the capable Maryanne, as my day-to-day contact, who achieved the feat of leaving no email unanswered for longer than ten minutes! Initially, I had some issues with the online interaction (form filling) which was clunky and unclear. The portal they have created is well constructed and easy to understand and I found it pretty straightforward to upload all of my information which took a chunk of stress out of sending documents by mail. My solicitor, Beth, was both professional and responsive typically within 2 -3 hrs and walked me through the critical points in an easy to understand manner. They under promised and then over delivered which I prefer. My wife and I decided to go with McVey and Murricane when buying our first home together. They were less than other conveyancy lawyers. Which will make sense why as I go on to give my review. You will also deal with a number of different people at different stages during the process. Thought I'd write this so that people have an idea of what to expect. First of all, they were relatively attentive. The major milestones were met within good time. It's reliant on yourself as a customer being able to meet their time constraints when you're asked to submit documentation. Which weren't taxing and as a conveyancing firm, they give you ample time to do it. Well potentially dependant on your situation. However it takes me to my first point. When we initially decided to go with M&M, I asked them if their initial quotation represents the full scope of what we will be paying - they told me yes. Nevertheless, this isn't entirely true. If you are late with submission, you incur a fee. A small fee so it wasn't a major issue as we were prompt with submissions. You just need to make sure you read every email thoroughly. Which you'd expect from a client. Anyway, this leads me to another point. You will communicate 95% of the time via email. They don't like phonecalls. The vast majority of our phonecalls weren't answered. So if you are worried about something or struggle to digest information sent via email - you will have to email them about it. They do typically reply within a day. Which is relatively reasonable and rectified by, for the most part - prompt replies. You will have to be patient. We had a trainee solicitor called Sarah towards the end of the process. Who was relatively prompt in replying and generally nice to speak to. But we really needed help with our property as it had a few issues that weren't there when we viewed. Regardless, a couple of emails went completely unanswered. This leads me onto the main issue I had with them. So… when property buying was more realistic in Scotland, we were looking at homes we could stay in potentially forever. During this period, we went to view a house and the owners gave us the impression they wanted to sell quickly. I relayed this to whomever was helping us at the time. She recommended that we let it go to closing. It was against how I read the situation but I was new to this so went with what McVey recommended. It sold within a day of that I think? We were devastated but we knew the state of the market. So we didn't complain but I mentioned it fleetingly. We got a phonecall from Amanda. She said she was senior in the company and it was bad advice we were given. Offered us money off and said we would be dealing with her from now on. We then began to receive correspondence from someone else. So we just relayed information through them. Amanda called to make sure we were content in general which was nice. But we didn't directly deal with her after that. Maybe their workload increased so much that a senior wasn't then able to deal with an individual client. That would be my incline anyway. Nevertheless it was confusing and they should have told us what the situation was. We didn't get the discount. We presumed it would have been in the final quotation. It wasn't. I was getting frustrated with them a bit towards the end - so chased it up. We emailed them a few times about it. Sarah said Amanda wasn't in so she couldn't ask her about it. Never heard. Amanda was due back in like a week or something but this is now almost a month afterwards. Overall, we weren't happy with a few situations but they were okay considering the circumstances of probably having a multitude of clients due to the sharp turn of the market. In terms of the system of it all, they get you over the line relatively seamlessly (other than the few issues I mentioned). Jennifer Morgan was really nice to deal with in the New Business team.

I also found it was best not to assume anything during the process, I had to be on the ball. Perhaps all of the above is reflected in the pricing though compared to other conveyancing firms I use, so if money is a consideration that may be relevant. Fine for a remortgage, wouldn’t recommend for anything else requiring more in depth communication or a personal touch. The tracking site lagged considerably behind the reality in comparison to other online conveyancing services, requiring extra work to provide assurance things were actually going to complete on time over a Christmas period with several public holidays. Any interactions were dealt with swiftly and with a warm manner from those dealing with the case but often there was no confirmation or receipt of requested documents, so you feel in limbo a lot of the time, and I never really got a handle on who was actually dealing with things as it seemed to be a different person each time even in the same email chain. In the end it was dealt with faultlessly from a legal standpoint, but I just have had much much better dealings with other large and small conveyancing firms for a variety of other needs and similar cases, and so their customer service leaves them in a completely average position. Having not been asked to provide a google review, I’m surprised at the sheer volume of five star reviews here and wonder if their post completion survey signposts those giving better feedback here.
