Highly recommended. I was caught speeding at 112mph. At first I wasn't too worried until I found out being from England I could not use my regular Solicitor in Scottish courts. I originally contacted a solicitor in Glasgow that I have used previously for conveyancing to recommend me a good Solicitor who could get me to keep my licence. Doing 112mph was an instant ban. Was initially charged with section 2 dangerous driving and facing a ban, large fine and having to resit my test but with Ronnie’s hard work and dedication to my case he got it reduced to section 3 careless driving and with his good work and professionalism my sentence was 3 penalty points and a £300 fine, I did have mitigating circumstances but without Ronnies help the end result would have been far worse for me. I cannot thank Ronnie Simpson enough for his kindness and professionalism in resolving a traumatising and distressing situation for me. I was involved in an accident over a year ago when a speeding car shot onto a roundabout and skimmed my car as I was entering the roundabout from a standstill. I was alone. Had a charge of Dangerous Driving against me. Checked the implications and knew I needed a good quality lawyer to fight my corner otherwise I'd be accepting a mandatory 12 month ban. Contacted Michael Lyons Sol. And spoke with Ronnie. He was confident that there would be a good case going forward so I decided to commit and go with them. I can now say I'm glad I did so, as Ronnie came fully prepared to court today with a large case file and we left with a reduced charge (agreed before hand with the sheriff) of careless driving and 6 point endorsement with a £360 fine. The only regret for Ronnie was that he didn't get a chance to cross examine the police witnesses which shows the type of determination he had! The only thing that wasn't ideal was that I initially spoke to Ronnie on the phone then when I had the opportunity for a sit down it was Michael himself who I met and at the intermediate diet it was the 3rd member of the team who was representing me so running into the trial itself I was unaware of who would be representing me. Given I was a "newbie" to this type of thing I was unaware of the work going on behind the scenes. However a quick phone call to the office and I was explained Ronnie would be dealing with my case at court and a brief explanation of the process involved was given. There was also an issue in my opinion with the Locus Drive through requested as the driver filmed it at 14:30hrs and the event tool place at 22:30hrs so the traffic and pedestrian presence was a vast difference in comparison. All in all though I'm chuffed to have had them represent me as otherwise my job was in jeopardy and any future job opportunities at risk without a licence. I would recommend them to anyone else seeking help in relation to motoring law! Excellent work in the courtroom!

Good drivers are hard to find and so are good employees. Please we urge any company to consult Ronnie & Michael before paying off your good staff if they have tallied up points. Out of 3 drivers they managed to keep 2 on the road and the 3rd down to 6 months, which we kept on in another capacity. How much would it cost to employ and train more staff. Earlier this year I had quite a serious road traffic offence against me looming. I was a little stumped at what to do and my options were not immediately clear. I was guilty of the offence, however , there were circumstances surrounding my incident that needed to be communicated in a careful, clear & deliberate manner, so It was obvious I needed a lawyer to represent me. I did have several options available to me as to who to hire . I was advised from a friend (who is a lawyer himself) to use a specialised lawyer in the relevant field and specifically the “Road Traffic Lawyer” based in high street. Upon calling RTL I was spoken to by a gentleman called ‘Ronnie’ who clearly set out my options , which , to my surprise , were more numerous than I expected! I was given sufficient time to choose a pathway and was quickly emailed a list of questions to answer surrounding my personal circumstances and all information I could remember from the night of my arrest. Upon completion and sending of these answers I was quickly responded to, saying they would carefully review what I had written and see if there was anything in what I had written that would aid my cause. The review of my info was excellent , cherry picking the helpful ,but more importantly omitting the potentially damaging and non relevant into a concise version (that a sherif would need to listen too!) - this is where using the RTL really helped me as it highlighted to the judge very important points rather than it being diluted down by boring & “clutching at straws” flannel. Used Ronnie's services again after being stupidily being caught speeding the day before I was due in court for a similar offence. Charged with dangerous driving and this was luckily reduced to careless driving before even going to court. However the judge we had for sentencing in Lanark was very harsh. After Michael had put forward my case, the judge agreed with everything that was said. For unknown reasons the sheriff had given me an unfair sentence and I was disqualified for 15 months! Reduced to 12 months for a guilty plea. To say I was unhappy was an understatement. After court Michael told how I could appeal. I was unsure. I was wrongly charged with drink driving in 2014. I was reported leaved my car in a nearby hotel car park heavily intoxicated. When I was later breathalysed by the Police, I was 3 times over the limit and facing a lengthy ban which would have been a disaster for me and my family. I had used Ronnie Simpson a few years for another driving offence and he worked wonders to ensure I kept my licence, so I had no hesitation in contacting him when I was recently arrested for drink driving. I was arrested whilst parked along the main street in my local town in West Lothian, I had a reading of 110 which is 5 times over the limit. The police advise they had 2 witnesses, one who saw me stagger into my car and one who saw me driving it erratically. The duty lawyer at court advised me to plead guilty as he felt I had no chance. In April 2016 I was caught for driving at an alleged 100 mph on a straight stretch of road in the Highlands. The police officers who stopped me reported me for the offence of speeding and an additional offence of dangerous driving which I strongly denied. I was charged with speeding at 99.5mph on a 70mph motorway and also was charged with having no insurance at the time (which had expired without my knowledge two months before the incident). Whilst riding through Glencoe I was recorded by an unmarked police car at 101mph. Despite having a clean license, I was aware that at 41mph over the speed limit I was liable to a disqualification. My name is Ian Calvert I am using my daughters email address to write this review. My life was facing absolute destruction when I was accused of driving while under the influence in December 2013. The charge was based on a count back calculation initiated by the police as my actual count when the blood was analysed was under at 63. I was given the name of Michael Lyon by a friend who works in Glasgow Sheriff Court. My shame and nerves when phoning for the first time were completely taken away when I spoke for the first time. I contacted Michael Lyon Solicitors t/a The Road Traffic Lawyer when I felt was I wrongly accused of speeding. After the alleged offence, I returned to the locus in Allandale and found that the sign alerting drivers to the change in speed limit was missing. I had the benefit of Legal Expenses cover on my Car Insurance and I was made aware by this firm that I was legally entitled to choose my own Solicitor and not compelled to go with the Insurers designated panel I had dealings with Martin Black, Ronnie Simpson and Micael Lyon and it was the latter who represented me in the JP Court. All of them had first class communication and kept me informed throughout. It was believed by my Solicitor that the Crown should not be proceeding with the case but nevertheless, they opted to proceed. Alongside, my photographic evidence, my Solicitor carried out a Freedom of Information request to the council which confirmed that the main sign had been knocked over in a RTA 2 months prior to my alleged offence and was not repaired until 1 month later. This correlated with my evidence that the Police Officer who stopped me for the alleged offence claimed that there had been an increase in complaints from residents in the months prior over the increased speed of drivers in the area. Michael Lyon managed to get one of the officers to concede that the complaint timescales clearly correlated with the the date in which the missing sign was reported as damaged to the council. This then resulted in a case of credibility as to whether I knew or reasonably ought to have been aware of the change in speed limit regardless of the missing sign and based on the remaining signage present. It was my position that based on my photographic evidence taken around the time of the alleged offence, the remaining sign was obscured by overgrown vegetation. The prosecution had asked the Officers to attend the scene and take photographs. Michael Lyon argued that the Police Officer's photographs should be discounted as they were taken amidst winter when in January whereas this incident occurred in summer. My oral evidence was preferred to the evidence given by the officers. The outstanding cross examination skills of Michael Lyon resulted in a successful defence. There was strong critism of the Officers concerned given that they a) did not check that all signs were in place prior to commencing speed checks and b) admitted that they would have proceeded with speed checks even if they had been aware of the missing sign. This is despite conceding that the increase in complaints from residents is, on the balance of probabilities, to have been related to inadequate signage. Furthermore, Michael Lyon highlighted that it was a ridiculous waste of taxpayer's money and resource to send Police Officers to a) photograph a sign that had already been repaired b) try to recreate a scene that clearly would favour the prosecution given that it was winter and all the vegetation was bare. I simply could not recommend this firm highly enough. I had dealings with Martin Black, Ronnie Simpson and Michael Lyon throughout the case and found all to be extremely helpful and knowledgeable. It is refreshing to have a firm that are so approachable at any time and carry out their work so efficiently and effectively.

I received a Final Notice NIP for a company vehicle failing to stop at a red light in September. The vehicle had not been signed in or out of the business and had no driver cards showing they had been inserted at the time either. Unable to identify the driver, I contacted the Safety Camera Partnership who advised that I should provide this in writing stating that I cannot identify anyone as the photo only showed the rear of a truck. Sent a letter to them, heard nothing, presumed all ok. December arrives and Police Scotland attend my workplace looking for a statement and why we couldn’t provide the information requested. Officers say it will be fine they are just confirming this and I will probably hear nothing else, took my details and off they went – Merry Christmas. February 2015, I receive a letter to my home telling me I am being charged with Failure to Identify a driver and there is a conditional offer of 6 points and a £200 fine. On particularly beautiful July evening I had the pleasure of driving a Porsche 997 turbo on the A83, a spectacular costal road with long straights and bends as it outlines Loch Fyne. Traffic was relatively light and I knew the road well. That particular 997 turbo is capable of 0-62 mph in a blistering 3.7 seconds. It has an over boost that increases the power to over 500bhp for 10 seconds. I'd overtaken twice on straight stretches leaving Lochgilphead. I had one more opportunity to overtake on a last stretch before coming to Inverary and as I sat at the lights leaving the town I recall how much I was looking forward to breathtaking road down through The Rest And Be Thankful. That was when two officers from one of the cars I’d just overtaken charged me with dangerous driving. They stopped the 2 other cars I’d overtaken and persuaded them to become witnesses against me. I had another 2 hour drive in front of me. Plenty of time to contemplate what had just been spat at me - potential jail time, a 2 year driving ban, resit the advanced driving test and a huge fine. By the time I got home I was pretty miserable! I called Michael Lyon Solicitors and once the citation arrived and I was invited in for a consultation. Martin Black detailed the judicial process ahead and broke down the options that could be available. Just hearing that I had options was refreshing to say the least. When the case was called to trial I was represented by the firm’s Ronnie Simpson. The charge of dangerous driving was quickly reduced to careless, this still carried a potential of 9 points. Ronnie managed to reduce that to 5 points. I’d been advised not to drive o that trial and to prepare for the worst on the 22nd December. I recently had Ronnie Simpson deal with two traffic offenses for my son, one was a traffic light offense and the other was a Dangerous Driving with speed in excess of 112mph. The traffic light offense Ronnie managed to get Samuel found Not Guilty which was great as he was a relatively new driver and 3 points would have affected his next case............Dangerous Driving. The Dangerous Driving case was originally a speeding offense which the Crown decided to change to Dangerous Driving because of the speed the police reported Samuel was driving at. After a lot of work and contacting the crown and getting mechanical/speed reports on the car Ronnie managed to get the offense dropped to Careless Driving and Samuel was given 5 penalty points and a £500 fine, which resulted in Samuel retaining his driving licence and not getting banned or made to re-sit his driving tests at a later date. I was charged with section 2, dangerous driving, for driving 138mph on the M74. The conditions were clear and dry and light traffic and the speed was the key factor in the conviction. Dominic Sellars went over all the evidence against me and sadly I didn't give him much to work with with a solid case against me. He did, however, do all he can to limit the damage come sentencing time. The Lanark judiciary is known for its hardline on speeding motorists, and the circumstances of the case were pretty bleak with a real chance of a jail sentence. Dominic managed to make the most, of what was a pretty duff case with no way out. He managed to, without winding up the judge, which is a triumph in itself, portray the offence as it was. Simply a bit quick on a quiet clear road, which we all know is hardly dangerous, and see to it I avoided the pokey and got a discount on the ban for it being a 1st serious offence, he even made my previous speeding offences look good. In the court he was magic, and compared to the other lawyers stood head and shoulders above the rest for the quality of defence, mitigation and making a bad thing (high powered car, high speed, young chap with previous motoring convictions) into a much less bad thing. My only saddness was he couldn't make the whole thing go away or get the charge reduced, but he did try, but the fiscal wasn't for it.
