I've been let down by a lot of garages in Brighton so had pretty much given up hope of finding a decent one by the time I booked my seventeen year old diesel for its MoT this year. The car failed due to what we thought was the nearside front wheel bearing giving out, so knowing I don't have the tools or patience to do a job like that myself, accepted their quote and asked them to do the work. What had actually happened was that another Brighton garage had failed to tighten my driveshaft nut after a previous job and so there was play in the wheel because of that. All it took was for them to put on a new nut and the car was fine. Here's the thing - they could have just tightened the nut, not replaced the bearing at all and charged me hundreds, and I'd have been none the wiser, but they were honest and told me exactly what had happened. The second time I took my car in was to try and sort a soft brake pedal. They checked the brakes and put it on the brake tester to make sure it would pass the MoT, but weren't able to sort the softness - so they didn't charge me - even though I was happy to pay them for their time. They're really polite and friendly, they don't treat you like an idiot and are happy to talk you through what work they need to do and why. I have a list of repairs I need to have done on my car, and I know which garage I'll be calling on. Thanks so much for all your help.
