Myself and my partner have been using Phil and his staff for as long as my memory serves me. Always keeps you informed and very reasonably priced repairs.

Staff are friendly, but repeated miscommunications mean we've moved on. The first time (our second visit) we learned when we came to pay that our MOT work quote was ex-vat. A simple mistake. The second time, (while the owner was away), I checked the quote was 'all in' - it was. I was then clearly told - "If you want a receipt, you'll need to pay VAT on top". It seems 'all in' meant 'including Labour'. I felt pressured to pay cash, and did so, to my regret, leaving without a receipt. Our final visit was also a minor misunderstanding. We asked for a quick check on a piece of MOT work, and a call before any billable work was completed - only to get a bill for work completed. Although clearly a genuine miscommunication and a very small bill, we decided to look elsewhere. On my final visit I also asked the owner about my previous experience in paying cash with no VAT, as I wondered whether it was an issue with that single staff member. He told me it's to help out the customer, and doesn't really benefit them. (Since posting this I received a frustrated phone call from the owner, giving an entirely different version of this from his staff member, and telling me they have the receipt, and that sometimes receipts are completed the following day for later collection. He offered to send me the receipts and has for all other work, but not the one in question. He was very clear they don't do unreceipted work, was on holiday when I dealt with the other staff member, and that if this was true, it was a sack-able offence.) I'm happy to acknowledge what he says, that this isn't a normal approach for them. The work completed was always good, and the owner was always friendly.
