J. S.I submitted a request to these guys over the weekend and they responded first thing Monday. They called to let me know that they themselves don’t work on automatic gearboxes but directed me to a company in the area who do. He even went on to offer some advice on obtaining a quote specifically for automatics.
Although I won’t be using their services, I thought the effort deserved a review.
K. H.I want to give 6 stars! I was sent here by my mechanic to check out a noise possibly caused by the clutch/gearbox. It turned out it wasn't the gearbox, but Ernie had a look anyway, even though it wasn't their specialty. It wasn't an easy one, they couldn't find the issue at first, but he went back to my car over and over again until he found the issue! Someone at another place did a cowboy job recently when replacing the battery, and it didn't sit properly in its bracket, making the rattling noise. He fixed it for me and the noise is now gone. Oh and while looking for the potential cause he found a massive bulge on the inside of one of my tires that could have blown any time. I can't express how grateful I am. Incredibly nice, dedicated people. Thank you!

The gearbox was replaced and I asked Ernie to do a full service as well. I picked my car up today excellent service he showed me my old gearbox and the reason it needed to be replaced and explained all that had been done. W. W.Went along with my 22 year old VW golf, the manager checked it over, no reverse , first or second. Opened the bonnet adjusted the gear cable actuator, tightened everything up and bingo I'm back on the road. Great service, very expert and honest. Didn't even charge me. Next service they'll have my business.

S. M.I have used Top Gear multiple times. It’s well priced and on multiple occasions when I’ve come in for a check on something, they have told me when there is nothing wrong. In that situation it is easy for someone to “find” a fault and charge you for a repair you didn’t need. I know I can trust the guys at Top Gear to never do that and I will always call them before any other garage when I need something doing on the car. Honest, well priced and nice guys.

C. W.I've a Quashqai +2. For the last 3 years I had a knocking noise when accelerating and rattling when changing gear. I'd been to 2 other well known garages who billed me for work but didn't resolve the issues.
After taking my car in to Top Gear they showed me exactly what the issues were: a weld on a metal plate had come loose and the drive shaft was worn and could be seen to visibly 'knock'. They replaced the driveshaft, engine mounting and fixed the loose plate.
I'm very happy with the job, professionalism and amazing value (can't stress this enough!). The car drives like new. Highly recommended and a pleasure to deal with.

J. R.My Audi TT had an oil leak form the gearbox and I was referred to Top Gear by another garage as they said a specialist would need to look at it. Ernie inspected the gearbox and made sure I didn't pay over the odds for unnecessary repairs. Gearbox leak is now fixed for a quarter of the price it would of cost me at another garage. Highly recommended. Will be coming back here for any future repairs.
k. b.Couldn't engage any gears & went in with what I thought was an expensive clutch replacement. Based on advice from Mark they did a bit of investigation & replaced the slave assembly. Problem solved at about 1/2 the price of a full clutch. I'm really happy with the service, clearly these guys are technically skilled but also honest & have customers best interests in mind. Definitely recommend!

M. M."HONEST GARAGE". My son car broke down in Liverpool, and I'm from Wolverhampton, looking around I found Top Gear online. From the moment I phoned, Mark at the garage was so polite and so nice. We had a good chat and I travelled back up to Liverpool to drop the car off. We was told by RAC that the Clutch had gone and you can imagine we were looking at £600 plus for the job from any garage, I dropped it off to Mark. The next day I had a call and I was dreading the worst. It was just a simple fluid hose that had melted, which was the cause of the car not going in to gear. It was not the clutch. Ernie is the person who told me and he said it was a simple fix. My cost were less than a £100. I was so happy that this garage was so honest. Thumbs up to the staff. This is hand on heart an honest garage, This is the best garage I have ever been to. If anything goes wrong with my sons car, this is where we will be going to from now on. The reason I chose this garage was for their honesty and this is the service I got. From the moment I walked in to the reception I could see the garage was a well organised garage, clean tidy. The staff spotted a few other things, namely, no brake lights and wire that had been cut inadvertently from some previous work carried out on the car and they put it all right for me. m.Went in expecting to spend a fortune on a gearbox repair on the advise of another mechanic. Ernie sorted me out and realised the problem was a wheel bearing failure. Car was returned to me within 3 hours of me dropping it off. Cant recommend them enough, thanks to the whole team.
