After our rear diff seized it was towed to Austrin, as I knew from their reputation that they were good. They were brilliant from the start, they made their best efforts to at least diagnose the fault before the Christmas break. Then post-Christmas break they were professional and communicative regarding the repair. I had about 3-4 phone calls with them discussing options for the repair and giving me updates. When I went to collect the car, the team were very friendly and the car had been washed. I really like this professionalism of this garage, so much so, that I booked my Audi in for a full transmission service. 5 stars guys – you deserve it

They took on a job I was finding problematic. They called once they had the car to discuss, and they solved the issue in very good time. Took my 2008 Golf R32 for a full transmission service including oil changes on the DSG gearbox, Diffs and Full Haldex service. Wanted to get my transmission serviced, but being very cautious with my car, I was reluctant to get it done at any random garage. I wanted it done properly, the way it was designed to be done without paying main dealership prices. Searched online for a ZF gearbox specialist around Newcastle and found Austrin Gearbox Specialist. Ticked all the boxes, so decided to book it in. Very happy with my choice. The personnel on site was very knowledgeable, reassuring and professional. Gearbox now feels smoother. This is a long overdue review. Steven, Dave, Andy and the team are second to none! Their willingness to help is unrivalled and they shine line a customer service beacon that others fall into the shadow of... My particular issue was a Transfer gearbox one Range Rover. This is one of the best, cleanest and most organised workshops I've ever come across. The guys at Austrin are extremely knowledgeable with auto and manual transmissions and arguably one of the best in the country, glad to have them on my doorstep. This isn't your average garage, it's a true engineering workshop. Multiple visits to the main Mercedes dealership and they couldn't identify the reported fault, Austrin had the car an hour and had identified the fault I had described and liaised with my warranty company keeping me informed at each step. If you have transmission issues don't bother going anywhere else, get booked in with Austrin.

Booked it in over the phone and took it in today. Very friendly service and explained what they would do. Got a call to say the car was all done and straight away email to with the price to pay. More than 5 stars for these guys. Nissan quoted us a ridiculous price for an oil leak. Second opinion from national tyres found the source of the oil leak to be completely different. Nissan basically told us not to fix and to trade in. National tyres recommended Austrin to us and well this company went above and beyond to help. Price was great and service was unbeatable. In a word, excellent. Very knowledgeable and quite happy to discuss the procedure and what they found when performing an oil service on the auto transmission, so you are fully informed of all work, planned and additional if needed. After getting the car back, the fuel consumption is better and the gearchanges more clean - would highly recommend and will use again as and when the auto oil needs replacing. They even cleaned and hoovered my car which I did not expect - All round, a really good specialist service.

In August 2021 we bought a used mercedes from a local dealer. Around 4 months after purchase the vehicle had a gearbox fault. We took it to two local garages who ran diagnostics to identify the fault, however they told us Austrin were the guys to see regarding getting the gearbox repaired. From start to finish the service we have received from Austrin has been fantastic. Ultimately I got involved in a dispute with the dealer who sold us the vehicle, with regards to who was going to pay for this work. Austrin identified the specific fault and were very frank and honest about what the cost implications of this repair would be. There was no 'hard sell' from them, they also took several phone calls from me about the best way for me to proceed with the dealer. They could have not taken the time to talk me through everything over several phone calls, but they did, because quite frankly you can tell straight away these are stand up guys and they care about their customers. The customer service I have received from Austrin has been absolutely first class. Thank you so much.

Brilliant experience from start to finish. The gear box (DSG 7speed) on my Seat Leon failed before Christmas and Austrin were recommended to me. I gave them a call and they took time to explain the possibilities of the fault in simple terms, I never felt pressured to use them. Called on the 23rd Dec to go ahead with repair but they closed over Christmas until 4th Jan. Called on the 4th just to see if they knew when it would get started on and was told it was done already and took time again to explain the fault and fix. Can't fault them at all, they even had my car defrosted for me picking it up. Thank you very much Steve and Dave who I spoke to over the phone and everyone in the garage.

Our car with DSG just lost drive while pootling along at 30mph recently. Engine would rev but gears wouldn't engage (car just rolled backwards when the stick was in the 'drive' position). Local village mechanic wasn't confident with automatic transmission issues so recommended Austrin Gearbox Specialist. Although clearly busy, they collected it from my driveway two days later and had it repaired a further two days after that. Off the road for less than a week. We were relieved it didn't require a new gearbox or complete disassembly - just a replacement Mechatronic. The various people I spoke with were very friendly, helpful and accommodating throughout. I got calls, emails and texts with updates. The price was agreed before any work was carried out. They even washed the car before I collected it!! I will use again with gearbox issues in future.

so i couldnt find anywhere to replace my dual mass flywheel on my mk5 golf dsg, so called these guy and they booked me straight in, i was informed they wouldn't replace the dmf without replacing the clutch after it being diagnosed, i agreed and had the work carried out, it was completed within 3 days. bit on the expensive side but what do you expect from a specialist, I've done 3k miles in the car so far an its perfect.

Performed a gearbox repair on a 2012 manual transmission Nissan Qashqai . In all aspects AGS were outstanding. In the 15 years of car driving, I had never experienced a problem other than something on the level of break pads. So I was a little apprehensive about who to get to fix the gearbox. AGS transparency, communication, endeavour to fix the car without raising costs and customer service (including a courtesy car) can't be improved upon. I unreservedly recommend AGS to anyone who has the need.

I used Austrin recently to carry out a full drive-line service on my Insignia VXR Supersport which included the TF80 Automatic Gearbox, Front Transfer box, Haldex clutch and Electronic Limited Slip Differential, I am very happy with the service that I received and the staff are very knowledgeable, friendly and professional and are educators on all things transmission related e.g. how you can be pro-active in extending the life of your transmission components and quashing many industry myths. I felt comfortable and reassured that my car would be in good hands, not only that they are very honest and straight up about any issues that arise during the service/diagnostic and offer recommendations on potential solutions, also very fairly priced too - I have already recommended Austrin to some fellow car enthusiast friends who are looking for the same drive-line service I booked my car in for, my view is that if you want a complex machine serviced or repaired then go to a shop that specialises in such technology. Its not just gearboxes that Austrin specialise in, also Transfer box, Haldex clutch and Limited Slip Differential units too, they also offer a health check service to determine what level of transmission servicing you may require. One of the owners kindly allowed me to take a few photos of their facility, watchmakers precision springs to mind.

Had my RS Megane Mk3 gearbox rebuilt at AGS, along with new: flywheel, clutch and slave cylinder. I visited AGS based upon the strength of their reputation, and wasn’t disappointed. The quality of the customer service provided by David and Steven is excellent; very friendly, professional and respectful. Both are clearly passionate about the business and were happy to answer all my queries. I’m also very pleased with the quality of the work conducted on my Megane, as the gearbox now operates like new. It’s also worth noting that I had an aftermarket Coolerworx Short Shifter fitted prior to visiting AGS, and it still operates perfectly after their completed work. I'd like to extend my thanks and gratitude to all the team as Austrin for looking after my old Jeep Cherokee so well. They told me they'd investigate the transmission and get back to me before agreeing any further work. Recently had my bmw auto gearbox rebuilt at Austrin and what a pleasure it was. I knew nothing about auto gearboxes as this is my first automatic and all of my questions, concerns, worries & doubts were all well addressed by Steven. Well what can I say, these guys are absolutely awesome! Have an Ix35 that had an issue with 4th gear and had some seriously huge quotes for the repair and not many garages prepared to take it on. WARNING... If you call these guys, ensure you are actually speaking to the garage... Somehow I had originally been speaking to Service4service who I had not realised were nothing to do with the garage. They gave me a quote as a "worst case scenario"... car was collected and 2 days later I get a call from Service4service with a price that was more than double their "worst case scenario" so I was furious. They explained that they were into the car and it needed loads more doing and after I had given them the price originally quoted and mentioned that as all of their calls are recorded, they said leave it with us and we will give you a call back ". Later that day I had a call from David who was actually from the garage itself and I can not praise him enough... What a breath of fresh air! He was friendly, polite, super helpful and a pleasure to talk to. It transpires that they were unaware of the price the "brokers / agents" Service4service were trying to charge. After our discussion and because I felt reassured by David I asked for the work to be done at LESS THAN HALF THE PRICE SERVICE4SERVICE were trying to charge. Got a call from the garage, again, David (who is a credit to the company and their service) to say car was ready and they were just washing it!! Car is now driving like a new car and I can not thank them enough, great service, great people, great experience. I can not recommend these guys enough but ensure that you are talking directly to the garage and not a broker / agent... Ask for David and he will look after you I am sure!! Thank you so much guys... Living in Sweden I had a really hard time finding the answer to a question I had about the Aisin TF-80 transmission. Nobody could tell me if what I was experiencing was a feature of the gearbox or if it was a sign of ware or malfunction. Fantastic service, the most professional business I have dealt with in a long time. A full transmission rebuild on my 1994 80 series Landcruiser finished early and they washed up when finished. Could not be more pleased. Just to note AGS rebuilt a Mitsubishi box for me years ago. They did a great job then also.

Took my newly bought car in after a whining noise was still present after fixing the wheel bearing. The gearbox internals were completely mangled to the point that it is nothing more than ballast, however AGS managed to fix it, while the service might not be the cheapest, all work is guaranteed and the after sales care is second to none. I took in my gearbox explaining the fault a mobile mechanic advised of within 24 hours I had this back as they had stripped the gearbox to tell me this was in working order with no issues and no faults ( as advised by a mobile mechanic the gearbox was faulty). They stripped, cleaned and rebuilt the box replacing bearings and a damaged 2nd gear. They identified and replaced a worn drive shaft while they were on. Having been told by Mercedes Benz dealership that I needed a new £5000 gearbox I was referred by a friend to try AGS Their technical knowledge, facilities and presentation inspired great confidence and their professionalism identified my problem as a faulty CSU unit which they promptly removed, had reprogrammed and refitted all within a week and at a cost of around £1000. Just picked my motor up and I’m over the moon. Steve was really helpful... I had the worst case scenario where I had early signs of gearbox issues.. high revs gear slipping when pulling off. Had Steve and his team check to see what the issue was and to my relief the gearbox came back fine no faults found. However still didn’t explain what was going on with my evidence of it slipping whilst driving. Steve and andy kept the car over night to test further and topped the oil up as I was about half a little low after further inspection. I picked the car up with basically 3 choices leave it as it is and run it , sell it fast or try giving the gearbox a service and a oil change and see if we can see any evidence of any breakdown. Steve showed me inside a gearbox on display in his office And the mechanics of how it works, it made a lot of sense to give the gearbox a service and an oil change hoping to get further evidence of what it could be. To my delight whilst waiting 5 days for my service to come around I noticed the car was running a lot better no more slips or hiccups. I was even more confident of giving it a service with fresh oil. I Picked the car up tonight and it’s running like a dream, very happy with going ahead with the service and clean, Steve confirmed there was no evidence of any metal shards being found but dirty oil and Little debris was found so it was due a oil change. I’m hoping by looking after the gearbox and change the oil every 2-3 years or every 50,000 miles I can help prevent a new gearbox being needed. (They don’t come cheap) I seen the amount of cars in his car park needing oil changes or gearbox changes and it was a real eye opener to get this sort of thing done every 3 year max. I will be a returning customer and I highly recommend steve and his team. I thank him for his honesty with machine diagnosis and going the extra mile with customer service to help find the fault. Booked my 2018 AUDI A8L 3.0TFSI for a gearbox service at 60000 miles. Customer care was 1st class. I was told as mine was the 48v Mild Hybrid the gearbox was a different version to the normal ZF unit and a sump had to ordered from the Audi dealer and support frame had to be removed before they could tackle the job in hand.. But they still managed to complete the job on time.. I have owned this car since 4000 miles and it always had a clunky feel and has been back to the main dealers on numerous occasions to try and rectify the problem but to no avail so I have learnt to live with it. Imagine to my surprise when I collected my car it drove exactly as it was supposed to do when it was new. Thanks to AUSTRIN ENGINEERING for there 1st Class Service and Customer Communication would definitely recommend there services.
