This is my second experience with Mill Road Garage, the first time was very good. Called the day before and was booked in this morning 9:30am. Very friendly and knowledgeable receptionist and mechanics. Work was done within 2 hours, I was called and told my car is ready. I took my VW Polo for a routine service to the main VW dealer, and on collection I was told that the front discs needed replacing and was quoted a price. Having read good reports for Mill Road Garage I decided to ask them to quote for the work. I found them quite a bit cheaper and arranged to take the car in. Within an hour of dropping the car off I received a telephone call from them stating the discs were less than 50% worn and no work was necessary, and there would be no charge whatsoever. It is good to find a good honest trader like Mill Road Garage, but at the same time it questions why the main dealer told me that the work was necessary.

Steve and the team are excellent, for the work they do, for their customer service, and for their very reasonable prices. Steve communicates clearly and listens (patiently!) to his customers (I've heard him on the phone to other customers and in the garage itself). I thoroughly recommend the garage! Recently, Steve has helped me out in dealing with Audi UK over an original manufacturing fault and his help has led to me not having to pay anything for the repair. He has also seen me at very short notice recently to sort out something on my car while I waited, when something cropped up just before a holiday drive away, for which I was very grateful!

I've used Mill Road Garage for several years to service & fix my car. They always explain whats been done & I know I can speak to a technician if I've got any questions (last time I spoke to Bob, who was very helpful). I like that fact that they specialize in a few makes, rather than fixing all, it gives me confidence that they know about my car (Audi). Interesting comment about Mill road refusing to use owner supplied parts. I had a complete suspension rebuild with uprated units done on my A2 - all supplied by me with Mill road charging for labour. First rate job by them as was the full service both at very reasonable prices. Some time later I noticed a knocking from the front suspension, took it in for diagnosis which turned out to be a failure of one of the uprated dampers; without asking for proof of purchase (remember I bought and supplied all the parts originally) the guys contacted the manufacturer, obtained a replacement and fitted it all free of charge within 24 hours. Sounds like consistent excellent customer service to me plus the lady on the service desk was always helpful and friendly.

Top garage family run took my eos for the yearly mot and advised Stephen about a problem with brake. Needed a new brake booster and Stephen kept price and labour down for the actual job. Day later MOT passed and brakes like new. Top job.

Updating my review below as Steve made a particular effort to contact me to provide me with proper info on work done so I feel much more satisfied that proper work was carried to to attempt repair. Looking at other reviews I’d say similar has happened to others so if you don’t feel that you’re getting the service you expected ask for proper feedback. “Just got charged £80 for looking at stereo and saying they couldn’t do audio repair and for looking at door/roof seal and saying they had adjusted it, but that it would leak again, which it did THE NEXT DAY. Refused any refund. I feel totally ripped off. Won’t be going back”

UPDATE UPDATE: After further communication with Steve, we have found that there seems to have been a genuine error and Steve has corrected everything in a friendly and satisfactory way. UPDATE: Steve from Mill Road has called and we are investigating what's happened and how it could have happened. The review will be further updated when we compete the tests. It's good that he called because it shows a level of concern. Extra star given on that basis. Update to follow in coming days I took my car for it's first major service and it was the first time I've not used the main dealer after a poor experience last time out. So I tried Mill Road even though it was practically the same price as the dealer quoted. So in went my car and I knew the ad-blue was low. It needed filling up in 800 miles. The garage called me to ask if I wanted them to top it up and I said I did. On the itemised bill the charge wasn't too much more than I would pay filling in up myself. So I was happy enough. I've done about 1000 miles in the car since getting it back and guess what it needs? Yep. Ad-Blue! The car tells me when it needs filling up in 1500 miles and I usually get 5000+ from a full tank. So no way can I believe it was filled up. You could argue what was meant by "would you like us to top it up" but then if they just put enough in to make the warning go off. Only a little thing, but if puts that doubt in my mind about everything else. Back to the dealer for me I think sadly.

Reliable, quality work, reasonable prices and courtesy cars. Good service too - you get the estimate before you have the work done, no separate ripoff charge for "investigations", and the final bill is always close enough to the estimate as makes no difference.

They added £100 onto the quoted price of my service as they'd underestimated the quantity of oil needed! - without discussing the problem with me before they went ahead! - following this review Steve, the owner, called me and offered me a partial refund in recognition of the mistake. I've now raised my rating from 3 to 4 stars.
