Went there for my MOT. Received a friendly welcome checking my car in. Was kept informed and up to date every step of the way. When it came to collect I got a good rundown of the outcome and next steps and it was all done in a timely and effective manner. Highly recommended!

Had both sidelights changed for under £20 including bulbs. Very quick service while I waited. The person at reception was very pleasant. No complaints. I had less luck at the Halfords on foss island, where they didn't seem to know what they were doing, so I would use the Layerthorpe shop again.

It couldn’t be more different with the service at layerthorpe. Mike was fantastic and really helpful. Great place to go for a quick bulb change, nearside headlight on insignia is awkward to do, for 10 minutes and a small fee done, sorted, easy. Never used them for a big job so can't comment on those.

Booked the tyres on line for 11-30 fitting. When I got there was told would not be ready until 4-30. 11 -30 is only the drop off time. Had to reschedule for a later date. The store manager was apologetic and did his best help. This is not the stores fault it's the web site that is not clear. The actually fitting process was very good.

We called after an underside trim-plate came away, and they told us we could take the car straight in to be inspected. Got there within 10 mins, manager waiting for us, immediately had a mechanic get the car on the inspection ramp. They checked for damage, confirmed no damage and advise the trim-plate itself was not necessary to replace. All this done as a courtesy, didn't charge, great service, knowledgeable and friendly.

The guys at this branch were fantastic, from the initial phone call through to collection. They talked me through each step, no hard selling, a really friendly and professional, trustworthy service. I initially went to another place for my MOT (they shall remain unnamed..) and came to Halfords for a second opinion. The scores on Google were spot on. My total bill for the same work was more than halved from £515 to £251! I am looking to buy a house so every penny and pound counts. I will return next year and for services throughout the year as and when required. Special thanks to Martin (Technician), John for a fantastic collection experience, and especially Mike who should be really proud of his 37 years here. I have to be honest I thought it would be an impersonal customer experience because Halfords are such a big name, but I was pleasantly surprised that they offered a personalised service. Not only did they manage to fit us in without an appointment, they manage to do it ahead of the time frame given, so that I could have the car to go to a funeral the next day. Would have preferred to be shown the old tyre and the problem on collection as other garages do. There are two branches close to each other. Be sure you go to the one you booked, I didn’t!

Have yet again received excellent customer service from the Layerthorpe branch of Halfords. The branch will always be at the top of the list for auto related issues. The experience at the Layerthorpe branch far outweighs that of another local garage with a very similar name. Shame that the Layerthorpe branch does not come up as an option when booking through the Halfords website.

Had winter tyres fitted yesterday by the Layerthrope Road branch. Mike was incredibly helpful in sourcing ones which would fit correctly and was pleasant and professional throughout. Would highly recommend. That said, I can’t say the same about the staff at the Foss Island MOT centre who were border-line rude and clearly did not want to help, so avoid them. Go to the Layerthorpe Rd branch instead.

The mechanic who did my MOT was completly honest with every aspect, since it failed I was unsure what to do but he told me everything that needed to be done and to bring it back after I got the engine power washed. At the end he said he threw in a few extra fixes since he had already quoated me, if that isn't honourable then what is?

As we'd recently bought the car we were advised that it was safe to drive and that we should take it to our main dealer as it may be fixed under warranty. We weren't charged for this by Halfords. One thing I found strange was this time booking on line it kept offering Foss islands (Thursday)as the first option and Harrogate (miles away) as the second. The team member, Mike, confirmed all the deatils as per the on line reservation, explained it would take up to 1.5hrs & took the keys. I was never ever going use you again after trying to rob me with my old car saying all brakes needed doing 3 years ago as the brakes lasted 18 months after your brake check and I sold the car with brakes still not needed doing but I came back xmas 2016 to get brakes done on my new car because of the 4 month payment plan and use foss island branch york again which I thought was risky , you were honest saying only my fronts needed doing but my rear had a few months left , I took my car to get rears done and new back tyre on 29th July 2017at layerthorpe branch york and the guy rung me saying back brakes are like new and only tyre needs replacing , the guy at Halfords was brilliant will use layerthorpe again but never foss island as that's twice you have tried to con me with no apology or offer of compensation what so ever , would recommend layerthorpe york to everybody absolute honesty and 1st class service
