Reviews of Archipelago Bakery
L. R.
I stopped here for tea and cake and the place didn't disappoint!
It was pretty small so it's good for those who want a quiet place to relax. They also had WiFi available.
They had a range of cakes, including vegan options, but I didn't see many traditional flavours which I was after. I opted for a yogurt and coconut cake (I think!?) and it was delicious!!
One downside is I couldn't see any customer toilets.

Lovely little place, artisan baked goods and delicious lunch ideas. Great for vegetarians and vegan, and coffee is wonderful too. Wifi and pleasant atmosphere. Loved it. 4 stars from me, because the hot chocolate was disappointing. Not very chocolaty… tasted like plain foamed milk, and I do wish they’d ask about cinnamon on top before putting it on. Everything else was delicious.

Tried today their plum cake and was just perfect for this autumn weather, delicious with a great touch of fruit mixed in the cake. Very unique recipe. Can't miss if you're in Edinburgh.

We just found this lovely place by chance. The decoration was so warm and the food so delicious. Vegan options also. Just perfect.
The people attending were very helpful walking us through the numerous options.
100% recommendation

The soda bread at Archipelago was the most fantastic bread I’ve ever had. It’s crust is bumpy and crunchy and once sliced reveals a dense and luscious interior. Outstanding with a cheese and charcuterie board. Lovely, helpful young woman at the counter. Highly recommend.

This may be a little biased as I used to work there but cannot recommend this place enough. Everything has so much care and thought put into it by Caroline and the other staff. It is all organic and a more healthy option than anywhere else. You do pay more however I do believe this is because you’re paying for quality. It has fresh baked bread every day, cakes and tray bakes every day, pastries on Saturdays, soups and a curry every day, a great selection of salads, a variety of different savoury pastries, and much more. Care is taken with the coffee and the coffee bean changes every couple of weeks too, as well as having around 20 different types of loose leaf teas! I would definitely recommend you give it a shot, I know I’m glad I did :) (ps. I was not asked to write this review just to clarify).

Amazing selection of daily made pastries. Gluten free for those that need it. Friendly family atmosphere. No laptops. The cinnamon buns were amazing. Definitely a place to stop.

Dropped by in the hope of healthy food and a good cappuccino. Both food and cappuccino were Devine and the lady who served me was lovely too. Highly recommended place

Very tasty take away or sit in sandwiches, breads, cakes and more. Bit on the pricey side but worth it!

The bread here is to die for. Carrot & sunflower loaf available on Saturdays is incredible and a lovely way to get some sneaky veg into kids (also amazing with honey!). Proper, delicious yeast-based loaves with fabulous crust and yummy flavour, I'd highly recommend this place for its loaves, which include Combine Harvester (spelt and oat), stoneground wholemeal, white bloomer, and other variations. They sell out quickly though, so if you want bread you need to pop in first thing and certainly before lunch! Cafe sells a nice selection of cakes and brownies and offers local artisan tea, flat whites, oat and soya milk alternatives and the usual array of coffees. Well worth it for the bread alone!!!! 🍞🍰☕

We had a delicious lentil/sage soup of the day, a warming bowl of curry and an espresso. Great food, amazing bread and the staff was friendly and genuine. We would love to go back there.

It's a magical place. Every single time I experienced new sweets that surprised me. The combination of tastes is perfect without too much sugar, which is unfortunately common these days, overshadowing other tastes.

Cozy vibe. Good service. Great hot chocolate.
Service with a smile =)

Heaven is a place on earth called Archipelago Artisan Bakery!
What a lovely wee place! The staff was exceptionally helpful & the coffee was just delightful. Last week my husband tried their granola bar, I tried their brie cheese sandwich and they were god damn good!
If you are looking for glorious baked goods & cozy ambiance , Archipelago is the place to go!

Grabbed a quick late lunch here Tuesday 24th August 2021 - Brie roll and five bean roll - it was a bit late and they didn't have much left - wasn't sure if it might be a bit 'dried up' but was actually wonderful and very tasty indeed. lovely friendly staff thank you!

How could it be possible?! Everything here is extraordinarily delicious, from vegtable korma to hazelnut bread and energy bars.
Thank you Caroline.

Lovely selection of scones, cakes, breads etc. With specials on daily too. Lovely helpful staff. Great coffee. Nice cosy cafe atmosphere. Highly recommend.

Very much enjoyed my time here. The food and drinks were tasty, staff was friendly and I loved the range of products they had on offer. Will definitely go again.

A rare find, a place that makes all their own produce from scratch. Great quality bread (best in Edinburgh from my experience), cakes, ice creams, salads, lunches to sit-in or take away. Lovely owner who is passionate about what she does. Well worth a visit!

This has become my favourite spot for a coffee and a sweet treat in the New Town. Their coffee is quite nice but the cakes and baked goods are outstanding. Stop by and try it!
L. C.
Beautifully baked bread and a big selection of cakes and other sweet treats. I would highly recommend the white bloomer, wholemeal carrot cake (best carrot cake I've ever tasted) and the little amaretti biscuits....but really everything is delicious.
J. C.
Such a cute little bakery. The chocolate cake was delicious and decadent. The vegan samosa made me believe I could go vegan. The staff was wonderful.
G. M.
Delighted to have come across this organic bakery which serves a wide range of hand made cakes along with a selection of teas. I was too late for their bread which apparently sells out by lunchtime, but took away a quiche which was delicious.
N. M.
Nice place with lots of lovely baking smells. BUT OUTRAGEOUSLY EXPENSIVE. Hence I only gave it 3 stars. I complained about the price of a croissant to go £2.25, and the response was 'that's what others charge'!
H. P.
Great for breakfast (amazing croissants and the tastiest homemade jam) and lunch (we had a beautifully made tart with really delicious salads). You can sit outside too and watch the world go by.
B. S.
Top notch, friendly service and wonderful food. Their breads are beautiful (I highly recommend the sourdough). The sweets are lovely as well and they have vegan options.
M. S.
One of our favorite places in Edinburgh. Love the vibe, the breakfast and the taste. The warm toast with rhubarb jam was amazing, so was the chocolate oat brownie.
S. W.
Really fantastic organic sourdough bread. I also really loved their brownies and date cookies. Sadly, I cannot recommend their scones--just not very flavorful.
E. R.
Perfect pear cake, the other baking looked lovely too.
D. C.
Buy local from enthusiastic talented crafts-peeps. Delicious proper breads, cakes and spanikopita.
C. A.
Awesome service. A lot of choices of cakes and pastries. Vegan friendly and a great selection of bread and lunch options
M. P.
Pleasant interior, great selection of cakes but our hot chocolate was not particularly rich or tasty despite its generous portion. Unenthusiastic service.
R. S.
First visit this lunchtime - chose baguette, (lovely chutney) & slice of berry cake. Really special! Can't wait for return visit! Bellisimo!
P. M.
Lovely fresh salads and baked treats daily! Friendly staff and cosy atmosphere.
J. P.
The best cake we ever had, lavender and blackberries.Coffee was good and sandwiches are great
S. B.
Hit or miss. Coconut lemon cake was nice but my friend's brownie was inedibly dry. It was like a solid brick of flour and cocoa
E. S.
I love the gluten free cakes, biscuits, bread. Worth to visit every week ;)
S. D.
Staff friendly. The cake selection was good. Unfortunately they didn't do milkshakes but the service was quick.
D. C.
Lovely cafe, great coffee and service with a smile. The vegan carrot cake is awesome.
L. H.
We loved this bakery - a highlight of our visit to Edinburgh! The homemade jam is especially good.

I was visiting Edinburgh and I wanted to eat some local cakes. I arrived just 15 minutes before the closing time, and the staff allowed me to stay and have my piece of cake :D Thank you!

C. W.
Great bread, friendly people, delicious homemade soup (pea and tahini)
J. M.
Not the biggest selection of pastries which was very unfortunate as I had to share a truly lovely buttery yet flaky crisp croissant!
G. P.
Quite simply the best sourdough bread I have found around the world. Lovely atmosphere too.
L. B.
Lovely spanakopita and salad. Cakes looked delicious but we were too full!
j. m.
The bread is really nice and fresh if you go in the morning the loafs are still warm from baking
A. K.
Extremely good carrot cake and coffee. The spanakopita was pretty good but not as good as the cake.
P. J. H.
Very friendly staff, great coffee and good, home baked pastries and savouries.
