A nice spot to grab a quick bite to eat, I got the smoke salmon croissant which was really good. Their pastries which look very good from the windows for me was a bit of disappointment, I only got a vanilla eclair and it was not good. Their macaroons were also crunchy though they should be soft.

One of the best places to grab a coffee and pastry close to the Castle. A brilliant classic French bakery with great coffee. Definitely recommend the pain Suisse. They have a selection of beautiful classic cakes in the window too! Very limited seats inside but if you’ve got some time definitely give this place a go.

Really cute cafe, with yummy pastries and drinks. I took off one star because the barista working seemed very irritated with every little thing, and was also moving slower. We ordered drinks to go, and she gave us our cups with no lids. When I started talking asking for lids she walked away and said nothing. I then had to wait for the cashier to get them for us, and the barista looked annoyed with her as well. The inside is very cozy, but there isn't much room to stand or move, so it was difficult with our kids even placing a takeaway order. They didn't allow us to wait at a table for our items, which is understandable for other guests needing a table, and instead moved us in front of the door so we were in the way of every single person trying to get in and out, for closer to 10 minutes, for two small lattes. It is a bit expensive, compared to cafes selling the same items.

I don’t know if we were maybe just unlucky but we were slightly disappointed by our afternoon visit here. The shop was quite busy but we managed to get a table outside. I am not a fan how the table a chairs are situated outside. There is a set of table and chairs that right in front of the window that displays the eclairs and other similar pastries. So if there are people sitting at this table then you have to look over them to see the cakes which isn’t the most comfortable for both the person choosing the cakes and the people sitting at the table. I think they either need to display the pastries inside or move the table and chairs. I didn’t want to feel awkward so I didn’t bother looking as there was people sitting at that outside table so I just chose the pain au chocolat from inside and a hot chocolate. My wife got an eclair and we also picked 6 macarons. The hot chocolate was really nice and not too sweet. My pain au chocolat was a disappointment. It didn’t appear any different from the ones you buy from the supermarket. It was soft all round and no flakiness on the outside and not much chocolate on the inside. My wife’s eclair was fine but nothing special. The macarons on the other hand were very good. Overall, I expected a lot better.

This place is outstanding. Best bakery / coffee shop I found on my trip and this includes London, Paris, and Amsterdam. I had a latte that was the best I ever had. We had croissants, plus sweet treats that were top notch. Everyone working there was working super hard. If I lived in Edinburgh I would be there every day

Had the Plat du Jour Quiche and a gingerbread latte, and it was exactly what I wanted. The coffee despite it looks was somehow not too sweet, although still a delicious treat, and the quiche was wonderful. They also have an array of French pastries that looked delightful.

Such a lovely little patisserie with delicious cakes. We sat outside every morning of our stay and enjoyed a coffee and an almond croissant. Would also recommend the raspberry tart too!

Went this morning for a quick breakfast. Had an almond croissant and Americano - simple but delicious. Came back an hour later and got myself a super yummy chocolate Éclair. So happy I found this place. Will definitely come here often for yummy desserts. And very friendly staff too 👍

This coffee shop is a little gem. I stopped here to warm up a little bit. Ordered a latte and some cakes. It was a pleasant surprise. The coffee was rich and the cakes absolutely delicious. I think the worst thing I can say about this place is that they opened at 8:06 rather than 8am. The shop offers a nice selection of pastries, ornate cakes and slices, drinks, and sandwiches. As we were there for breakfast, we shared a raisin swirl, lemon meringue, and slice of apple tart, along with coffee and a refreshing peppermint tea. Each food was presented on small slate plates. Gorgeous and delicious.

This cafe feels authentically french. The food tastes like it was made in France, perhaps due to their French baking team. If you have a chance to pop in, try their Half Baguette and Croissant breakfast- it's quite large but you will not regret it. A star deducted however because i was not given a seat, merely a flat surface that was little more than a windowsill, no padding or comfort.

This was a wonderful little mid day stop. Our family had the pain aux raisins, the lavender latte, croissants, a vanilla latte and the 12 pack of beautiful macarons. Everything was wonderfully delicious except for the macarons. That just might be a preference as I am not a macaron expert. But, no one in my family cared for them. This mainly a take away place with only a couple of seats. But, it is lovely and quaint. I would definitely stop there again... and we actually did visit there twice. ;)

I was expecting a lot from it, living in the North of Scotland and being home sick (I am French)... I only had time to buy food to take away. The place is very small, busy therefore crammed. I was looking forward to a simple baguette sandwich: ham, butter and cornichons... sadly I was rather disappointed by the bread itself which wasn't fresh. Luckily the raspberry flan was absolutely delicious. The macarons were nice but not the best. I am a bit sadden to say but I doubt I will go back when next in Edinburgh.

Delicious pastries on a sunny August morning hit the spot and would recommend the coffee too! There was one barista working hard to keep up with many orders but despite warnings about a longer than usual wait, we were pleasantly surprised that they arrived as soon as they did.

I love this little cafe. Situated on Victoria street, just of Grass Market. I make a bee line to this special little place everytime i visit Edinburgh no matter how far away i am from it 😋 It is small but i always delighted to get a seat even though its busy. Authentic French bakery run by expats who wanted to recreate their love in Edinburgh. Wonderful coffee and baked goods served in a small storefront. The Macaroons were light and airy as they should be. This is a gem amongst the area that shouldn't be missed.

Best bread in Edinburgh in my opinion! The croissants are flakey, buttery and delicious. The tea is what you'd expect. I don't drink coffee, but my espresso drinking friends have said that you either love or hate the brand they are using. The Victoria location is quite small, better suited for a small group [I'd say at 3 it starts too get cramped at a table] or buying to go. If you're a larger group and want to sit in, I'd go to the other location. All in all though, this place never disappoints. [Note: you have to go down 2 steps to get inside, so it is not accessible for wheelchairs. They do have some tables outside in the summer, so perhaps that would be an option]

I really enjoy the pastries here but I was disappointed in their pear tart one time. I was a bit skeptical when I saw the edges were a bit dark but when I tasted it, it was nothing but bitter.
