Reviews of Loudons Fountainbridge
V.
The waiting time was around 20 minutes as it was busy at the time we went. Absolutely delicious brunch. Service is polite and friendly but slow. Food was well made. We had their American pancake which was a little too sweet for me but the Scottish smoked salmon was excellent. Price is slightly on the higher side but worth it. Would love to visit again.

This is a very busy place and it’s always good to get a reservation beforehand. The staff are very helpful and friendly and they helped make space for us even when we hadn’t made any reservations.
We ordered a veggie breakfast, french toast, and an oat milk latte. The french toast don’t just look amazing, but they were just out of this world.
The veggie breakfast was also nice and since it was our first time trying out Scottish breakfast, it was extra special.
The ambience of the place is nice and it’s very well lit.
The coffee roast was very good but the quantity was little for the price paid. They are generally more expensive.

We really liked this place! The space is very cozy and spacious with plenty of seats, including sofas. The staff were all very nice and the food was tasty — we had the full English breakfast, leek soup, and scones with clotted cream and jam. We didn’t love the scone to be honest, but everything else was very nice.

1st impressions count, yes they definitely do. Greeted by the maître d' who was welcoming and took us to our table (we hadn't booked, it was around 9.30am on a tuesday) it was relatively busy for this time but there were enough tables available. At the table he went through the specials and I took this opportunity to visit the toilets. Impressed by the cleanliness, I would also point out that they are down a flight of stairs, not sure if there is an accessible one on the same floor, or a lift to downstairs, it's worth checking beforehand to prevent any issues. Back to the review. I loved the atmosphere, there is no music playing and it's just people having breakfast and speaking to one another, spot on. The order was placed, and I went for a scone to start followed by avocado smash. The scone was the right temperature and the perfect temperature, warm and generous, and even the butter provided was not solid requiring a blow torch to melt it like most places, great touch, and the clotted cream and jam was brilliant, the latte ordered was generously sized and it was uber smooth. Forgot to ask which bean they use, it was lovely. Now the Avocado smash was nothing short of brilliant, presented with a poached egg on top, cooked to perfection, no runny white bits, just perfect, yolk the correct texture, and the layers all gave a different experience with every bite, the accompanying vinaigrette based dressing was delightful. The portion was spot on, my only critique would be to use a slightly larger slice of toast it sits on, a half size more and it would be perfect, despite that its still not enough to be marked down as it may be enough for some however at the same time it may not be, but i wouldn't let it stop me ordering again, I would just order a side of toast, its that good. 10/10. Staff were attentive and polite and checked in to make sure everything was ok, smiles all round. If you're looking for somewhere bright, spacious, relaxed, near town, with excellent breakfast options then Loudons has to be on that list. I'll be visiting again to try out some more of their dishes.

Brunch was delicious, had the full breakfast and is a great portion size, the homemade beans are incredible! Food is reasonably priced, full breakfast was around £12 however drinks are quite expensive, £4.50 for a fresh orange juice!
Would definitely recommend for a nice brunch.

We had the most delicious vegetarian breakfast here, hands down the best I've eaten. The restaurant was bright and spacious, you didn't feel like you were sitting on top of the table next to you. The outside was interesting too, with an inscription above the door from the building previous life, I love seeing things like that preserved. When we visited it was busy and there was a wait to be seated (not too long though!) and then a wait for the food but nothing you wouldn't expect from a busy place. The host and waiting staff were extremely friendly and overall we had a great experience. Sometimes vegetarian breakfasts can be very lack luster but this was sooooo good and I especially liked the shredded cabbage which was part of it, I don't know how they cooked it but it tasted amazing. They also had veggie haggis on the plate which was really tasty too, I'm very glad I got to try it. I highly recommend visiting, you won't be sorry! If I'm ever in Edinburgh again I'll come back here for food for sure.

Fantastic brunch, even better staff
Thank you so much to the staff who went the extra mile and put 'Happy Birthday' decorations on our table for my partner's birthday breakfast. It was an unexpected special touch.
The vegan breakfast was delicious and high quality, I can definitely recommend Loudons!
J. S.
I personally like the full breakfast here. I have tried so many British breakfast and this is the best for me so far. The sausage is delicious and the toast is just on point
F. P.
Came here on a busy Friday morning. The waiters were friendly and provided excellent service despite it being so busy !
The full big breakfast was amazing and we also shared the spiced apple, date and Banana smoothie - so yum.
L. S.
Great service, environment, choices and quality food. Loved it. I really recommend to try the choices with Scottish ingredients, like the salmon.
S. S.
We were waiting around 15-20 minutes on Friday to be seated as it was busy inside. The atmosphere inside was okay, but didn't feel that cosy. The lady who was seeing us was lovely and friendly and she warned us that they only take card payments. Latte tasted good, I had English muffin with smoked salmon and eggs and I enjoyed it, the dish was freshly made and tasted good 👍🏻 My partner had full English breakfast and he liked it 👍🏻
N. R. (.
Fantastic breakfast all made in house. Various vegan and gluten free options available. Waitress was super friendly and the overall experience was a delight.
T. W. F. T. W.
Good quality of food and healthy choice menu. Customer service lacking, had to ask twice for an order of toast. Waiting staff never checked up to see whether we were enjoying our meal or try to upsell with additional purchases of Tea etc. No free access WiFi and prices on high side. 😷 Requirements are nonsense.
I. A.
I ate here three times in four days! Incredible gluten free options although I never strayed from the full English breakfast. One of the best things ever! Manager and servers are all very knowledgeable about coeliac / celiac. #glutenfree #coeliac #celiac
Y. C.
Went for brunch, glad we had booked ahead as it was extremely busy. Friendly staff and really lovely chai latte. Also really enjoyed the French toast, thought a bit of mascarpone would have gone really well with it! Lovely atmosphere
S. P.
Really great pancakes and smoothies. Good service. Would recommend!
M. S.
Walked in Saturday morning and they were able to fit us in without much of a wait. The place was cute and clean. We had the American pancakes and the full breakfast. Both were delicious and the full breakfast gave us our first taste of haggis.
J. D.
Went here for some brunch and the service from our waitress Emily was absolutely outstanding. She couldn’t do enough for us and was very chatty and pleasant. She continuously checked up on us and made sure everything was okay which we really appreciated. Our food came fast and was really nice, as were the coffees. Some of the menu items were a little pricey but it is expected in this area of Edinburgh. Overall a lovely brunch location and would definitely recommend!
T. L.
Full breakfast came in a great portion and the bread tasted nice. Americano( guest beans) was amazing☕️❤️
J. M.
Nice place for brunch. Very busy and we had to wait, but the food was great and the staff very friendly.
J. D.
We had a great breakfast here. We enjoyed the Full Breakfast and the Christmas Eggs Benedict. I was also impressed that they cater to carnivores, vegetarians, and vegans equally. Friendly staff and a family friendly atmosphere make this a place I’ll gladly recommend.
I. M.
Been going here for quite a while, particularly for the full breakfast - BUT - now they BAKE their sausages. How to turn a decent quality sausage in to something that looks fake, and has a strange texture.
Otherwise has a good selection of quality foods, but until they cook the sausages properly, I will think twice about going.
M. L.
Cool vibe, chilled and efficient staff, excellent breakfasts (brioche French toast, figs and maple syrup, American pancakes). Worth a visit for sure
G. J.
First stop when we arrived in Edinburgh. It looked very nice from outside, so we have it a try. The custard infused brioche bread with smoked bacon bacon and maple syrup plus candide pecans was lovely. Just what the doctor ordered! Friendly and efficient service and a carafe of water was offered without asking. We've still got time to go back as well. 😁
D. T.
Absolutely incredible brunch!
I got a sausage & bacon filled roll - the sausages in particular were Next Level. Friendly staff and great coffee. Highly recommended.
N. S.
Loudons is a nice place to have breakfast but at £50+ for two people, it's just a little too expensive. Minimum tip on card machine was 12% which I find obscene, do people tip 20% for breakfast? Minimum tip should be less than 10%. The food and portion is good, but no better than many other cafes close by. The setting is comfortable but loud, like a school cafeteria but reimagined for yummy mummies. Staff are friendly but again no better than standard. Would I go back, yes, would it be first choice, no I don't think so.
L. M.
Really lovely place, friendly and helpful staff, great menu, delicious food and yummy coffee. It’s got a lovely vibe to it and I’m looking forward to coming again.
The soup was soup-er and the toffee apple tart was so delicious we demolished it in seconds!!
v.
we had an english breakfast and it was pretty good. the service was a bit lackluster.
H. H.
Had a really amazing breakfast with my wife. The classic full breakfast at really high quality, especially the tasty beans, great toast, good black pie and really tasty Haggis. My wife had an avocado smash toast. Also really delicious with an olive tapenade (they ask if you don't like it because it's quite intense). Best is the specialty coffee. Had both the house blends (fruity with a bit stronger acidity than I normally prefer but like everything top quality) and the Guest bean wich was on point for my taste, nice strong body, low acidity, but not bitter at all) best start in the morning ❤️
R.
We had lovely food and a wonderful time for breakfasts here. Their all day breakfasts is great. The staff is amazing. I have food intolerances and could order straight off the menu. Teas and coffees are good too with loads of varieties. We miss this place.
D. C.
We waited about 15 minutes for a table at 1030am on a Monday morning. This was during summer peak period. Food was really good, we were very satisfied. Also very good service. They made us feel very welcome.
R. C.
Incredible breakfast. We had the Scottish smoked salmon toast and the goats cheese Benedict. Can’t stop talking about wanting to go back and only just left… 10/10
J. D.
Good food, good coffee, nice folks. Seem to need reservations, so consider that. Had a few seasonal dishes so that was nice.
T. B.
The atmosphere here is very nice. It was busy but not too loud with a cozy laid back feeling and nice decor. The staff are attentive and kind, and the food is delicious. We had the breakfast service - eggs Benedict and American pancakes - both of which were a sizeable portion for a reasonable price.
L. G.
Excellent food and excellent service. We came in as a group of 6 and they accommodated us very well. They managed to sit us down in a seated area for coffees before our meal and moved us to a table when it became available. Kept us in the loop consistently. It is reasonably priced and in a great location.
R. T.
A nice place to have brunch, breakfast or lunch. It's a pity that we needed to wait instead of making a reservation. The food was great, the options on the menu varied enough to have a good choice, and the service very attentive and friendly. Well done and keep up the good work!
A. P.
The best place for breakfast in Edinburgh. I've been there seventh times so far (and planning more), tried sixth different breakfast options and each one was delicious. They do great coffee and amazing cakes as well (carrot cake was the best from what I have tried so far)! The service is always spot on, everyone smiles and make you feel very welcome. Bright, simple yet tasty interior. Busy at weekends, but so, SO worth your time and money! ♥
S. R.
I’ve came several times to Loudons and every single one has been a fantastic experience. The food is outstanding and they cater for gluten free. The service is incredible: knowledgeable, friendly and caring. When in Edinburgh there is no other place where I’d have my breakfast or lunch.
A. M.
Service is great, super friendly, comparison price/quantity is great. Food is prepared in front of you as they have a open kitten and bar so you basically see how they work and make your food. Nothing to hide!
If you don’t finish your coffee well they will ask to you if you want it to take away and if you say no they will offer to make it again just in case you did not like it!
You guys are giving a bloody great service I wish I could find the same treatment in the rest of the country!
N. S.
This place is usually packed during brunch time, but we managed to get a space. They serve a wide variety of brunch options, like classic egg Benedict or pancakes etc. They also have a wide range of coffees and teas!
However, I would say that this place is way overpriced. Apart from how they present their dishes, there's nothing really special about the food. It's all quite generic brunch cuisine and the coffee is expensive as well. I got the avocado on toast, but my friend once got porridge which cost her £5, despite the fact that it was just normal porridge (probably microwaved) with bananas and chocolate chip sprinkled over. My meal was also on the average side, though I do believe their bread is homemade!
All in all, a good experience if you're looking for something more on the fancy side. Plus, it's quite central (more on the westend) and the staff are also super friendly!
C. G.
Fantastic place to have either breakfast, lunch or even a brunch. The coffee was outstanding, the service was fast and the speciality I had (winter spiced pancakes with white chocolate and a blueberry sauce) made it so good that we'll visit this place again, either for lunch or for a afternoon tea. There is a big chance that you've got to wait before you'll be seated (even though they work really fast and smoothly) but it's just that busy. The wait is worth it at the end if you'd ask me!
O. B.
Really delicious brunch, staff were so warm and attentive and it was great that Loudons was really family friendly too.
D. F.
Went on a post-Festival Sunday afternoon where it was unusually quiet. Staff were friendly and polite, the burger was delicious, with everything including the bun giving the impression it was freshly made in-house. Coffee was very good also, with my only complaint being that the flat white is too small (albeit well-balanced in flavour).
The downside to Loudons is that it can normally be very busy at weekends but it's like that for a reason. No complaints here on this visit.
J. B.
Came for breakfast TWICE in my 3 day stay in Edinburgh. Place is large, nice, clean, and modern. Ate the huevos benny and the banana coconut French toast, both were delicious. If you want a sit down, delicious, and large breakfast, this is your spot!!
N. T.
Flavoursome pancakes. Nice surroundings. However very busy over weekends for lunch/brunch. Prepare for wait. Sofa's are comfy but wouldn't recommend them unless no other tables available for dining.
A. G.
Delicious brunch, they have a wide range of choises including vegan and gluten free.Food is very good, well made with quality ingredients. We ordered the Loudons breakfast and some poached eggs with huggis and it was all delicious.
M. K.
I didn’t know what to expect from the place after I saw it, it was packed with families with children. Entire vibe was family friendly. The quality of cooking was above my expectations. Custom made beans and curiosity cola instead of the normal one it makes a difference.
A. S.
Excellent vegan options and nice staff and friendly service. Can be really crowded around 12, so if you show up around that time be prepared to stand for a while to wait for a table. Really recommend the quesadillas and the pancakes.
T. C.
Went there on a Saturday during lunch time and there was quite a big queue for tables. During weekdays it's not too busy.
The service is great. All the servers are nice and attentive. They made sure you were acknowledged and gave you a table as fast as possible. It was quite nice that not all our party had to be there for us to get a table.
I got the full breakfast and it was pretty good. I'd recommend the white bread instead of the brow because the brown wasn't tasty. Everything else was quite good. Not the best breakfast I've had but it's up there for quality. Fairly priced.
I can only recommend this place for the breakfast selection. Haven't had lunch here.
L. S.
Went out for a hangover breakfast and had the best one in my life. Staff is incredible friendly and quick although it is New year's morning! Food is delicious as well. I will definitely come back.
A. M.
Great food. A bit pricey but undoubtedly worth it for the quality. Had the full breakfast and the Mediterranean poached eggs, as well as the pineapple and ginger juices. Impressed by all, as well as with the service, that despite the place being so crowded the queue was extending out of the shop, was quick and efficient. Would definitely go back!
S. M.
Good food very mediocre drinks and service can be better in some aspects. No calories informations and a but over reacting on masks.
M. T.
Very popular place, recommended that you book a table, there were a lot of people waiting in the queue.
We had the full Scottish breakfast. Good quality bacon, sausages and the haggis was very tasty. Slightly let down by an overcooked poached egg. Would have liked a runny yolk but it was hard inside.
Staff were pleasant and attentive.
E. L.
They have a great variety on their breakfast menu. If you are a poached egg lovers this will definitely be a must visit place. 90% of them are poached egg on either muffin or bread. Restaurant is clean and spacious, very comfortable. We ordered poached egg with haggis and chorizo. And poached egg with pulled pork with chilli mango sauce. They were great!
T. H.
Factastic breakfast, lots of choice and amazing gluten free options. Staff was very friendly, you can’t book tables and there was a bit of a queue but well worth waiting a couple of minutes.
M. G.
A fantastic place for brunch! The menu is varied and interesting, even the most traditional positions come with a twist. Whether you’re a vegetarian, gluten-free, have a sweet tooth or prefer to start the day with a boost of vitamins, there will be an option for you! The service is attentive yet not intrusive. Loudon’s has a big shop floor so that one doesn’t overhear the conversation at the next table and the arrangement is such that even big groups can be accommodated.
The joy of visiting Loudon’s comes at a higher than average price (around £11-13 for food + beverages, although the quality of the dishes makes up for this) and not infrequently a long wait in the queue of hungry customers!
M. A.
I had a delicious brunch here, on New Years Day. There was a line when we got there, but we didn’t have to wait very long (maybe 10-15 min). It’s surprisingly big inside, especially compared to most places in Edinburgh. The hostess was exceptionally kind - she took into account my dog and seated us in the sofa area so my dog can have his space away from others. The food and coffee were delicious too - I had the smoked salmon scramble and my partner got the eggs and bacon. I wish I found this place in the beginning of my trip - I’d love to return on my next visit to Edinburgh!
A. A.
A beautiful gem in Edinburgh. A Great choice for breakfast. Friendly staff & lovely food
L. S.
The food is amazing and the staff very friendly. I need to eat gluten free because I have celiac disease and the waitress immediately asked if I got celiac because she would tell the kitchen to avoid further crossconmination. I really recommend this place :)
t. r. e.
They had excellent wait staff and table service. The food was brilliant and did not fail to fill my belly. I was sad to be leaving Edinburgh because of this gem.
Y. R.
Food is really good. Big portions, price around 10 pounds per person, but worth it.
Tea is a good choice to start the morning
Staff is really friendly and they try to make you feel good.
Recommended as a good place to start the morning.
G. B.
The food was absolutely delicious. No wonder why people are waiting and literally queuing outside. All staff members are smiling and welcoming. We appreciate the Himalayan salt and black pepper grinders. That's another sign that this place does care. We can only highly recommend xxxxx.
C. C.
Excellent café/restaurant went with a girlfriend and our newborns. Very accommodating and relaxing for mums and babies.
Service is quick, efficient and unintrusive.
Delicious pancake stacks and great coffee. Staff are all wonderful. ^_^
N. O.
Visiting Edinburgh, staff are very welcoming and genuinely nice, great atmosphere, great selection of food, unlikely combinations but delicious. Loved the place, definitely a recommendation
L. f.
No idea how you would even start making vegetarian black pudding...? The best veggie breakfast I've had anywhere. Kept us going all day. Highly recommended
N. S.
Everything on the full breakfast plate was delicious.
J.
One of the best coffees we‘ve had in a while (Americano with guest beans).
The breakfast was good, too. The service and the staff have been friendly!
D. D.
I went during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival on a Saturday late morning. They were busy but managed to find us a seat. Ordered the healthy pancakes. They were so so so good. Be sure to try their special coffee. Defos worth it. The staff were really friendly and fast. It's nuts considering how busy they are. Great job guys! We will definitely be back.
R. B.
Loved eating here. There was a line when we arrived, but the wait wasn’t more than 15 minutes. The gluten free scone was amazing!! Also really enjoyed the French toast. well worth the trip!!
G. C.
Had breakfast here twice during our stay in Edinburgh and the food was stunning. Thoroughly recommended.
L. M.
Very friendly service. Many gluten free options (also beers). Tasty food for a nice lunch or breakfast. Breakfast served also at lunch.
M. W.
Lovely, very good quality food and good options for gluten free also. Good friendly service with a good atmosphere.
A. B.
Incredible. Such an array of choice and Loudons cater towards many dietary needs such as GF, DF and vegan. I had the PB and butterscotch French toast and didn’t leave a single crumb: the toast was thick, filling and utterly delicious.
Hubby enjoyed some American pancakes with bacon and maple syrup which were soft and fluffy.
The coffee was also well made and I was able to have coconut milk which is a rare treat outside of your high street chain!
Staff were lovely and happy to make recommendations.
If you’re in the area, Loudons is a must-visit for brunch!
S. A.
I came here for breakfast which was GREAT! We ordered french toast and poached eggs with avocado (can’t remember the order name) I highly recommend it. The artisan coffee blend was so good that I had two cups of coffee :) The service was perfect and the staff very nice and friendly.
A.
The food is reliably good but sadly its often to busy these days so has become more processed feeling, unless your quick on your toes that day you will be waiting for a while.
3 stars only now really, as the atmosphere isnt great feels more like a canteen when busy.
S. M.
Excellent food and friendly staff. Really loved everything about this place. There was a short queue when we aren’t but were seated in about 10 minutes. It’s worth the wait!
J. L.
Staff was very friendly and quick to table service, amazing considering how popular the place can be. Coffee was great even for Australian standards, and food was delicious. Highly recommended!
S. H. H.
Little bit of a wait to get in, but not terrible. Food was absolutely fantastic. Service was great. Pricing very reasonable. Great options for those on a diet.
H. T.
Lovely food and ambiance!
L. C.
The polenta chips are great ! Lovely breakfast
R. W.
Awesome! We had the American Pancakes, Mac n Cheese Sandwich and Spanakopita. All were delicious!
N. B.
Top breakfast place in Edi. Best carrot cake that I have had in my life. Very good service and simple yet nice interior.
E. C.
This is the best vegetarian breakfast I’ve ever had. A friend from home suggested the place and it was perfectly next door to our hotel. The staff were absolutely lovely - the waiter whose name I didn’t catch (glasses, dark hair worked Thursday 9th AM) was absolutely amazing. The veggie haggis was delicious and everything else on the plate. Could not recommend enough!
T. F.
Great selection and plenty of vegan options. Busy place but we got a seat fairly quickly. Portion sizes seem small but are filling. Could be cheaper though.
D. f.
The service & the atmosphere was great 10/10, french toast 6/10, eggs with homemade bread 4/10, cappuccino 8/10. Overall 7/10
J. D.
It's as good as everyones saying. Very friendly and attentive staff and yummy food though it comes with a price (which I was fine with, treat yo self!)
L. G.
Lovely friendly service. Delicious breakfast. Very busy so best to book.
E.
When I read bakery I was expecting some sandwiches and the likes but wow I was not expecting this. Had a benny with pulled pork and poached eggs and it tasted great. Would love to come back here sometime and try other things on the menu.
V. M.
The best place for breakfast and brunch or just a coffee in a piece full nice and cozy place. Full choice for vegetarians and always delicious plate of the day! High recommended
M. D.
Coffee is good, would perhaps have expected more flavor. Large room yet pleasant atmosphere. Efficient service.
S. W.
Very good breakfast & service.
M. B.
Bright and airy venue for an early Sunday breakfast. Good selection include plenty of veg, vegan and gf options. Lots of staff to quickly turn tables and keep everything super clean
J. B.
Excellent spot to grab a breakfast on the weekend. Incredible selection from full fry up to scones and cakes. Wonderful coffee with milk alternatives, which is great for someone like me that is lactose intolerant. They even have special roasts for limited timeframes. We will be back tomorrow to try out the delicious looking pancakes and french toast!
C. O.
Absolutely delicious and amazing service from Pip. Highly recommend. My only suggestion is improving allergens menu. Pricing is good too, I got two mochas and a double roll for just over £10. Great, contemporary, friendly and welcoming store. Amazing
S. T.
Really nice environment with the service excellent. Food was top quality but on the smaller side than expecting (Our table ordered the power bowls and Avocado on toast). Coffees were delicious and there was no pressure to leave while sitting about chatting after we finished eating. On the expensive side for a brunch place but would go back with a big group for the ease.
J. M.
Brilliant birthday breakfast. Premises exceptionally clean and well organised; staff exceptionally pleasant and attentive; food exceptionally well presented and delicious.
C. E.
This was our finally stop before heading home to North America. This trip was magical but the food here was absolutely delicious. It’s located in a nice little area close to the airport. This will be our first restaurant stop when we return in May 2023. Please go visit
O. S.
Loved this place. Some of the best breakfast food I've had the pleasure of trying including really tasty gluten free options. Awesome service too. Shout out to Pip our server who was fantastic!
D. P.
Lovely place for brunch. Really good menu choice and different. We visited both mornings on our break to Edinburgh. Recommend a visit here.
V. T.
the food itself was very good, but the portions were really small and therefore the prices were expensive, too. the staff was nice and the place itself looks lovely, but i probably wouldn't come again, since i get more food for less money at other places.
E. P.
Really friendly service and menu was interesting and good quality
A. H.
Very good quality food and range of menu for both all day breakfast and lunch.
M. A.
Loving their poached eggs & avocados.. amazing Americans .. I have to come here every time I visit this historical city
A. M.
I've been a few times in the past and always loved the food. But their standards have fallen back. The food was ok whereas it used to be brilliant. Service was excellent
J.
One of the nicest brunches I've ever had, had to wait for half an hour for a table but that's a testament to how valued by the community this excellent café is.
F. C.
Had the full vegetarian breakfast which tasted really good especially the sausages. Too bad they don't serve vegetariens haggies with it.
S. B.
Loudons is a good fun!
It is vibrant, friendly, familiar... It is like going back to the University canteen, huge place full of people from all ages and styles.
I felt very comfortable and no one looked at judgmentally. This is because the customer profile is super wide for a more than decent menu options for all budgets.
The staff were friendly and efficient.
The service was good and quick.
The food was full of flavour and the ingredients were mixed randomly in a way you could never imagine.
For example, I had my first baked goat cheese salad (around 150 g of cheese) with lentils, chickpeas and a hundred more things perfectly combined.
I definitely recommend this place.
Go Loudons!
R. W.
Come early to avoid the wait and you won't be disappointed with the food that is quickly served to you. Also, vegan breakfast food!!!
R. K.
We were staying at the Mercure Haymarket, and decided to book breakfast here because they had more breakfast options and were a 1/2min walk and we were a large group.
Best decision we made, it's a very bright and airy place. They were able to cater to coeliacs, and the gluten free caused no problems with our extremely sensitive coeliac. So if you're worried about contamination, this place is a good one to go to.
Plenty of breakfast options, and they were good portions. Exactly what you need to get your day started.

Top place for breakfast and friendly staff. Try to get there early, it can be busy.
A. T.
We'd heard this was among the best brunches in town and it didn't disappoint. Food was great, service was friendly, quick and professional and really liked the airy bright surroundings. We'll be back!
c. C.
Breakfast here was amazing, the eggs and avocado was VERY tasty. Great attentive staff too
D. H.
Enjoyed brunch at Loudons. I went for the Hoots Mon Benny which was substantial and set me up for the day.
K. D.
Very nice and friendly place 😊 full during breakfast and lunch. May have to wait for a little.
R. S. A.
Had a really enjoyable brunch here. Big fan of the Mediterranean avo and eggs and the coffee was great. Our waitress Destiny was incredibly attentive and made the whole experience very enjoyable. Clean and well spaced tables. A must for anyone in the area!
J. G.
A very tasty breakfast. I particularly enjoyed my freshly squeezed orange juice.
S. F.
What a find! Dropped a bollock at our hotel and so after a quick search we landed at Loudons. A very tasty breakfast, very fair pricing, and very friendly staff. Loudons is on our list "must do" list for Edinburgh now and we will be recommending a visit to all our friends. Thank you!
S. B.
Great restaurant for brunch! Was incredibly busy (booking ahead essential), but service was welcoming, friendly and attentive. Delicious food too! Highly recommend.
I. S.
Coffee is superb! Goat cheese and Loudon poached & avocado for breakfast is tasty.
J. L.
Polite and friendly staff, good breakfast and fairly tasty. Prices reasonable too.
J.
We visited on a morning and were asked to wait for ten minutes before being seated. Once sat down the service was fantastic. We were seen to promptly, and the food was on the table in 10 minutes - considering the place was absolutely packed the whole time. Decent selection of good, wholesome food, and probably the best gluten-free scone I've ever had.
L. C.
Had the most fantastic brunch here! When we arrived there was a queue out front but it moved really quickly (about 10 minutes) as the restaurant is actually huge. Service was polite and fast. I ordered the savoury pancakes (I think they were called superfood pancakes) and I'd recommend anyone try them - very yummy! Good tea selection too!
J. N.
top full breakfast ...haggis and black pudding 🍮
D. H.
Lovely place for breakfast. Ordered the fair fa, which is delicious. The coffee is bitter.
D. E.
Amazing breakfast with lots of it clearly homemade! One of the best I've ever had!
A. B.
The food is incredible. I had eggs benedict and American pancakes (separate visits). The smoothie was also amazing. Genuinely the best breakfast I have ever had, is here. The service is fantastic too and the atmosphere of the restaurant is perfect too. I can’t fault it. Just be prepared to have a 10-15 min wait on Saturday/Sunday morning.
L. H.
Best full breakfast in ages ..sorry no picture of food but better in than out.
R. G.
Good food, friendly service. A good place to start the day with a full menu from a full breakfast to smaller items. French toast was really good, as were the eggs. Nice bright space.
The only downside was the seats....they aren't the most comfortable. I also had a seat near where the food comes out...and the floor would flex every time someone passed...so avoid if possible.
J. M.
The people and service is impeccable. Great ambiance.
I would stick with the sweets/breads, as they are great. My veggie breakfast was a disappointment. Multiple items bland and not good: potatoe scone, veggie sausage, even the spinach wasn't good. Kuddos for the home cooked components, but it was all off. For the price, the meal should be at least okay.
Stick with pancakes or pastry and you'll enjoy a nice breakfast! Coffee is a good choice too!
B. G.
Delicious original Benny and laid back atmosphere / ideal first meal in Scotland
L. B.
Amazing breakfast! Visited whilst on a two day break in Edinburgh ended up going twice. Coffee was perfect and the vegetarian breakfast was delicious, my boyfriend had it on both occasions! Staff were really good and attentive, didn't wait long to order or for food/drinks. The place itself was bustling and had a constant turn over customers. Couldn't recommend it enough you can even see the chefs make the food on the lower level. Just a decent place to eat really!
E. C.
The place can get quite busy on weekends so plan accordingly. The food was good and the staff was helpful and prompt.
N.
I have to say I'm surprised this place is rated so highly for food. We came here for brunch, and whilst the coffee was great, the food was average at best. Without wanting to be too critical but the scrambled eggs were close to being the poorest I've had in a long time. It was as if a beginner chef had made them for the first time and ended up with an omelette so chopped it up to make scrambled eggs. I'm no chef but a simple search on youtube could show you how to make scrambled eggs.....for a place like this I would expect much better, especially with so many brunch places around. Both my friend and I had them and they were the same, and bland. Disappointing but as I say the coffee was lovely and the surroundings were really nice
G. K.
We really enjoyed our breakfast at Loudons. We had a short wait for our table (which was a good sign - it was very busy!) but the staff were attentive. There were plenty of vegan, dairy free and gluten free options which was really great for my dairy allergy. Really delicious food and great atmosphere.
M. S.
We had a lovely brunch with the whole family here. Food was delicious (the coconut flat white was unreal) and the staff were nice and attentive! More vegan options would be great, especially since they had a lot of dishes that could have easily been made vegan (like the superfood pancakes that were gluten and dairy free but contained eggs). I liked that they didn't put any plastic straws in our smoothies!
C. W.
Can’t rate this place more. The service is impeccable, food is delicious and high quality and the atmosphere relaxed. I booked a table I’m advance after re-opening post-covid and there were no worries about space. I went with one of the recommendations from the server and had the haggis benny. Wow! Couldn’t fault the food and no rush to leave after eating, comfortably had a second round of coffees. Breakfast food is my favourite food and the all day brunch menu certainly doesn’t disappoint
C. T.
Great place to bring kids. Staff is very friendly. The food is great and you can find several options for your kids.
K. T.
Highly variable the first time I went it was really good in both service and food the second time , it was terrible on the same scores . Guy serving was coughing through his cheap disposable face mask as the droplets hit on to me I can only imagine the fabric of his mask had started to dissipate. The rude Spanish waitress shouldn't have been allowed to serve the public asked to place an order she walked away to another table came back and said yeah what do you want about ten minutes latter then got all stroppy and sweary , when I did not take well to her idea of service . . The Muffins tasted like they had been out of a fridge or frezar the ingrediants equally dead , non of the food was appetising the second time around in fact you'd get better out Sainsbury's . If it wasn't for the civic discounts at the moment I would have felt cheated . All service was slow and arrogant staff acting entitled and also customers are wall to wall standing around without their face masks half the time . I certainly wouldn't like to get back here in a few weeks time when the covid numbers start to spike . They probably try to do too much in the way of food options and poorly copied American service both of which they can't seem to keep consistent with . I tipped before didn't the last time because it was a battle to get served effectively and in a timely manner . Given it was a week day I was surprised do they think everyone who comes in is a tourist . ?
A. L.
Went for breakfast here and staff were fantastic and food was awesome. I have since been many more times with no drop in quality. When having a full scottish the food is premium quality, the sausages are 100% meat with very little water added if any, the black pudding is full of flavour and the potato scones are Gluten free. The lattes are some of the best i've drank.
I will never miss a chance to have breakfast here
R. B.
One of the best breakfast places in Edinburgh. Excellent standard of service/food/coffee every time I have been. Would be even better if they played some background music at weekends to add to the atmosphere
S. K.
Very nice place for breakfast. Very good dishes in lots of variation in a comfortable atmosphere, even though the interior is modern and simple. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and always watching out to support the guests. Highly Recommended!
D. V.
Good food and good service. Diverse menu that caters to both sweet and salty brunch types. Also good range of juices and smoothies. Pancakes are worth trying but I found the Mediterranean toast and avocado a bit less enjoyable with the avocado being pretty much purree and small amounts of olives and feta.
M. C.
Absolutely amazing lunch at 12:00 today. I had Spanakopita; Apple, pear and matcha juice; Viennese Biscuit and Green Tea.
If you can, go and enjoy the great food and drinks Monday to Wednesday in August, as up to 10 pounds discount automatically given. Booking online for seats advised.
I can only recommend the welcoming restaurant. Well done.
S. D.
Very nice food even the healthiest options. Good atmosphere with good service even when busy at lunchtime.
Returned and had an even better lunch. Had the breakfast power bowl with beans , pulled pork, avocado and perfect poached eggs on top. Service as before very efficient and friendly. Will be back.
E. S.
Excellent brunch and service. Good food quality for a good price. I had the 'Mediterranean poached eggs & avocado', great value for money. If I was to have the same dish in London or Cambridge I would have paid 15 pounds and not 10.95!
s. k.
Average full English breakfast, very expensive for what it was. The flavours were pretty bland, especially the sausages. The mango coconut smoothie was nice though.
E. L.
Lovely place, with a great selection of food for breakfast (good selection of GF as well).
Very understanding and attentive staff - they didn't hesitate when I asked for my meal to be changed when I noticed it contained chocolate (which I am allergic to).
If you are in Edinburgh you should definitely swing past!!
M. X.
Really nice café!!!!!!!!
Wonderful food with wonderful coffee.
Recommend coffee with coconut mike, it’s very nice.
J. G.
I wasn't as impressed as other people. The burger was just OK. The burger I had at Brewdog was way better. The staff were friendly and good. The place was nice. I had a carrot and ginger juice which was lovely. I didn't give it 4 stars as I was expecting much more of their food and all their burgers were blended with streaky bacon which I didn't want, but had to have as there wasn't another option.
R. D.
Fantastic high quality freshly prepared food. Excellent service and ambience. Haggis is exquisite !
A must visit for sure
M. J.
Salami Milano brioche bun and spinach pancakes 👍🏻
A. J.
Get the pancakes! Coffee is incredible and the staff are really friendly and know their stuff. Great for gluten free and veggie folk and really nice inside. Very relaxed atmosphere and never too busy to get seated. Bit pricey but worth it for the quality of food and service.
M. N.
We ate a Saturday breakfast here around 9 am. It was fairly quiet with plenty of staff. My husband had the traditional Scottish breakfast which was fine but I had the Power Bowl. It was so fresh and delicious I truly felt like it was powering my body for the day.
M. V.
Breakfast was amazing. Went back twice!
J. E.
Enjoyed a large vegetarian brunch here, with delicious coffee. Homemade garlicky beans, potato cake and sausages, served with thick wedges of bread and eggs how you like them. Perfect. Service was friendly and efficient. Nice, airy modern decor.
P. t.
food is good in both quantity and quality, love the special touch of the bake bean. Worth a visit!
A. d. s.
Busy and bustling but got a seat within 5 minutes, iv just become a veggie and their veggie breakfast made me not miss bacon and sausage! the host was great and took my order which was served within 15min. it was delicious and so was the mixed juice too! will definitely recommend and be back whenever I can. thanks!
J. C.
Quite enjoyed the Eggs Benedict (fine...the “Benny”) I had, and its presentation was especially noteworthy, mixing in colors not always seen at breakfast — purples, greeens, and turmeric yellow. We had to wait a bit for our table of 2, and there was a little confusion with our initial service, but it was a crowded Sunday and easily forgivable. Excellent breakfast/brunch option, and from the looks of it popular with groups large and small.
J. M.
Large cafe/restaurant with excellent coffee and light meals. Very helpful staff.
C. (.
Great breakfast, pancakes, teas and coffee. Polite waitress'. The kitchen is open to the restaurant so the smells were fantastic! There was a queue outside at 10am when we got there, which showed how good it must be. We were not disappointed. We will definitely be visting again when we are back in Edinburgh. 5 stars.
S. A.
Had a lovely experience here. The staff were very patient and understanding when we asked lots of questions (our toddler has many allergies) and it was family friendly - lots of room around the sofas for the little one to move around and a box of toys to keep him busy. Food was great too so will definitely be going again.
N. H.
Most stunning breakfast, to die for hollandaise sauce on my black pudding! and lovely tea and coffee, nice chatty vibe, light bright and great service
D. C.
splendid representations of standard fare plus several gastronomic creations, attentive and accommodating staff, and plenty of vegetarian and gluten free options.
C. D.
Everything homemade, friendly atmosphere and staff with smiles. Probably the best coffee and tea we found in Edinburgh!
The food was delicious, the only problem was trying to choose from their extensive menu, there's plenty of choice.
Highly recommended and well deserves its accolades.
J. G.
Loudons is fantastic for brunch. If you need (or want) gluten-free options, this will be your dream place! I have tried many items on the menu (sweet breakfasts or more salty, big fry-ups) and have loved all of them so far! The place is clean, with a big south-facing bay window which brings in plenty of light. Be careful though, it can get really busy!
R. B.
One of my favourite places to go for breakfast at the weekend, or afternoon cake with friends.
Food is always freshly made. Great breakfast choices, lovely coffee and the cakes are out of the world, similarly to Bite Me! near by, Loudons offers a good choice of dairy and gluten free cakes and meals.
Very comfortable surroundings and nice and bright. Good place for meetings or catch up with friends
M. D.
Very tasty coffee and pleasant posh cafe environment.
I really enjoyed the poached egg roll I had, and the latte was good, even if the milk was slightly overheated.
Quite a mix of people go there and it is great for people watching as well as for the food.
M. B.
Amazing menu choices and great price. Highly recommended.
S. D.
Posh, busy restaurant. Not the cheapest, but good to go if you want to treat yourself. Went here for lunch on a Friday in summer, arrived at noon. Had to wait ten minutes for a seat. Looking around, there were many groups and few solo diners like myself. I ordered the Loudon Benny's (initially I wanted the Louisiana, but they said that they had just changed the menu) and carrot and ginger juice. The Benny's had some flavour. A little less salmon than I expected (shredded under the eggs), but lots of spinach, which was nice! The carrot and ginger juice was alright, but for 4 pounds, they should give a larger portion/use a bigger glass, to increase the value. I'm an introvert, so I am more comfortable in cosy cafes where I can sit in a corner, rather than a large restaurant with light and people everywhere. Still, a good experience - attentive waitstaff and quick service. Recommended
B. M.
Very satisfying food, friendly staff l.
It’s rather busy worth reserving a table before hand.
I got a cooled dish and they charged it for me and didn’t charge me at all.😀
M. S.
Great place for breakfast, brunch and lunch. Flat white was definitely the best I've ever had in Scotland/Great Britain. Cakes were delicious. Loudons benny was superb even though the hollandaise sauce was a bit too sour. The toast with avocado and spinach was perfect. The service was outstanding.
D. W.
Great location for breakfast/brunch but be aware that it gets very busy at weekends because it's so good. You may find yourself waiting in a queue for a table.
Great menu, excellent coffee and generally efficient service. Good selection of baking too. Staff are friendly, and all in all you really can't go wrong with Loudons. We've used it many times with friends and family and are yet to be let down in any way. Try the Eggs Benedict!
K. M.
Lots of gluten free breakfast choices! Which sadly really excited me! (muffins benedict, pancakes etc). Service was good and they were on it with regard to me being a coeliac, which was nice for a change. We had two young girls serve us and they were smily and lovely. iI would definitely recommend Loudons for a casual but delicious meal.
P. C.
Bright airy place. Great for a relaxed breakfast. Friendly crew.
A. A.
Excellent food and service, and great coffee too!
F. M.
Great place for coffee, cakes, juices and light lunch.
They bake excellent bread (various types) and delicious cakes. Many of the cakes are also suitable for vegans or gluten-free. The choice is great. Nice atmosphere, you can bring your laptop to work. Few places are with a power plug nearby.
R. W.
Bright and airy. Good service. Food very fresh and flavoursome. My portion of Eggs Benedict didn't look so large but was filling enough. Prices quite high but it you pay for quality.
E. S.
The best Breakfast in Edinburgh! We are kind of regulars there, although sometimes it is kind of difficult to find a seat. Especially during weekends, as it seems a lot of people, tourists and permanents residents of the area, consider it a great idea for breakfast. My favourite pancakes in town.
A. E.
Very busy place but plenty spaces between tables and all staff wearing masks. Food was first class - fry up and 3 different Benny's ordered. Very tasty and will certainly be back.
I. M.
Grand large space makes this cafe feel very airy and bright. It seems to be popular with a mix of business people and mum's with kids which makes sense due to the space. I've only ever been here with a 'yummy mummy' friend for coffee and cake and each time it's been a good experience. There's a good range of cakes, even some gluten-free options for those that need them. Love the lemon cake. Has some sofas where people can get more relaxed if there for a longer period.
Good spot in a part of town that has not really been catered for in the past, recommended.
Z. S.
Was a bit of a wait for food but was a Sunday at 1pm so a busy time. Once the food arrived it was amazing! Went with a vegan and there was stuff they could eat without any changes which can be a bit awkward to ask for. Freshly squeezed juice is amazing too x
A. B.
This place is great for anyone vegan or who needs gluten and/or dairy free foods. Being gluten and lactose intolerant I always find it so hard to find places where I can eat out but this place has many breakfast, lunch and cake options which are very tasty. They are also happy to adapt any other options on the menu. The staff are also very friendly and accommodating!
O. S.
Amazing brunch spot with some outdoor seating and lots of GF options
D. D.
Had the Loudon’s Avocado toast or whatever the dish was called - avocado on homemade raisin bread with poached eggs and greens, and I asked for smoked salmon on the side.
The bread didn’t work with the avocado as it had a specific flavour that is overwhelming - not necessarily bad, but wasn’t to my taste. Eggs seemed like they’d been poached earlier in the day, not to order. The salmon arrived ripped up into pieces in a little pot, which I found an odd way to serve. Overall it was edible, but I could make much better at home so I don’t think it was at all worth the price.
R. A.
Coffee is good, food seems a bit overpriced for what you get (ie two bits of toast, two bits of bacon drowned in maple syrup was £11...).
Nice staff and decent Covid setup though!
B. P.
Best breakfasts/brunches in Edinburgh. Covid preparations OK - Handwash, limited outside seating, some inside table distancing, some staff with masks. But saw customer repeatedly sneeze into hands and then open door. Would recommend staff do more, regular cleaning. Not just of table tops but seat backs, menus, door handles, payment devices, etc. I may be being too picky but I noticed other families watching precautions being taken.
k. N.
Simply amazing food. Had the full Scottish breakfast and everything from the sausages to the black pudding was absolutely delicious. The service is great and so is the ambience. A must visit cafe in Edinburgh.
L. C.
Great tasting food, everything was made fresh and the bread was from the bakery downstairs. The service was great and the menu had plenty of options including vegetarian and vegan. Highly recommend.
E. M.
Great eggs Benedict with salmon - lovely. Although, the food took a while and came before the coffees we ordered (that we also had to chase up many times). I think my coffee was given away to many people before I got one. Probably best to pop in if it's quiet, because I don't think they perform all that well under pressure.
R. A.
The full Scottish breakfast here was superb. Great wholemeal bread toasted perfectly sets of egg, bacon, sausage, home made beans, potato scone and black pudding.
Superb selection of tea and coffee.
B. R.
I have breakfast here every morning . . . one of the delights is that there is no music blaring at me as I eat my breakfast at early o'clock in the morning . . . the waiting staff are a little too cheery and insist on calling customers "guys" . . . apart from that, a well run restaurant with a pretty good range on the menu . . . and they do tea in a pot!
K. H.
Food was tasty, although portions were fairly small for the price.
K. Š.
Great menu full of veggie and vegan choices, also good for gluten free foodies!
M. O.
Wonderful cafe for brunch - quick service, friendly staff, and a great range of delicious food to choose from. Brilliant vegetarian and gluten-free options which aren't just lazy substitutes. Also dog-friendly!
O. B. (.
Good food and friendly staff!
A. A.
Fantastic place, great food, friendly staff. For such a large place they have done a great job of making it feel cosey and bustling. Always a staggering selection of homemade cakes, and inventive and delicious hot and cold food. The homemade granola and yoghurt is exceptional, especially with a flat white and a fresh orange juice while sat in one of the big squishy sofas. Highly recommended.
P. A.
Great food, friendly staff and a bit of a buzz about it! Worth the short wait for breakfast!
S. H.
Really great friendly and welcoming staff, the food and coffee was amazing! Nice atmosphere too.
S. T.
First of all i want to be clear that i give 3 stars because of the vegan options. (I would give 2, but this is unfair as for meat eaters it is maybe a good option)
It's so strange that they don't have indications in the menu of what is vegeterian, what is vegan etc. Even for meat eaters this is confusing as someone would maybe need to know if the dish is vegeterian-so they wouldn't order it. This was very confusing and you had to read all the dishes. We ve asked the waiter what were the vegan options and they showed 2 dishes, i picked one and then i doubled checked with another waitress if this is indeed vegan and they said that this contained egg. How is it even possible that the waiters don't know what is vegan and what not?! Anyway, so i chose another dish, the "vegan benny" (the only vegan savory option for breakfast-and there is a sweet one as well, the superfood pancakes), which was very very small and not filling at all. I m not expecting to pay £11 and feel like i have not eaten anything. And i also don't expect that i m in Scotland in 2018 and from a supposedly great breakfast establishment like this, that the menu is so poor for vegans and that the waiters don't even know what it is. I don't think i'll go again.
D. C.
Loved this place! Visited Edinburgh with friends and we went two mornings in a row and bought cakes for our trip home to London. Great service and food; especially for gluten-free and vegetarian people.
C. S.
I've been watching Loudons with interest since they opened but as I no longer spend much time in that part of town I've only recently managed a couple of visits - and was rather impressed. Any time I had tried to visit previously it had been absolutely packed, which says a lot about how much people like the place.
Lots of seating,in a variety of forms, with adequate table space. Coffee, tea, a bunch of soft drinks... but that's not the important thing, the important thing is the food!
I had long been aware that Loudons would often have interesting gluten free fare but it seems that this has expanded and now comprises a relatively massive part of their menu. There is generally a CHOICE of gluten free cakes and cookies. ALL of the quiches are gluten free. There is bread made on the premises, there are specials... it's a GF haven!
L. D.
Each time I come here, I am always impressed with the flavours they produce and the hospitality that comes with it. Any of the eggs benny will be incredible. A light, bright and friendly place to be in Edinburgh!
m. c.
Maybe I ordered the wrong thing. The avocado on toast was disappointing given the £9 price tag. Avocado was not ripe and was an ungenerous portion. Coffee was overpriced. Other people seem to like this place but I'm personally not sure what all the hype is about.
C. S.
Loudons is a nice little cafe offering breakfast, lunch or just coffee and cake. The selection of cakes on offer are brilliant and they taste lovely. The breakfast options are also good, non greasy and well made, the potato scone I had looked and tasted home made. The coffee is very good quality and the baristas are well trained. The lunch option are great too with hot and cold food available, the quiche is lovely. The service is also prompt so ideal for a lunch out of the office or pre work breakfast.
Y. E.
Lots of interesting things on the menu - can't wait to come back and try more! Considering claiming (on their website) their "food is simple and healthy" I expected more GF/DF-options (like the porridge!). Would also love vegetables in the smoothies (the juices have it). Atmosphere is a bit cold and Ikea-like, but very friendly staff! :)
E. K.
Very nice and fast service. Friendly staff and a nice choice to have breakfast. It's verry popular place so if you are having a late breakfast here you might have to wait in line to get seated. Nice toilet to. :)
T. N.
We are a group of 8 people and having breakfast here at the moment and the experiences so far are WONDERFUL ( thats why i have to give you guys 5* while I'm still eating). Food is so tasty, drink is so good also but what all we love about Loudons is your customer services. The team is super friendly, caring and polite. We cant ask for more. Keep going and we will definitely come back here next time.
A. S.
Fantastic food, great for brunch. A little crowded but personally I don't mind it. Just make sure to book beforehand !
D. L.
Loved it so much, we ate here everyday of our stay in Edinburgh. Great selection and fantastic flavours. I'd never tried haggis before and this place converted me!
R. H.
Light and airy with a comfortable but modern atmosphere. Coffee was smooth strong and rounded. Food was tasty and flavours were balanced well. Definitely worth a shot for a guaranteed tasty breakfast or a snack.
C.
My family and I were over the moon about the reopening of Loudons Fountainbridge. We went along for Brunch today, and it was as great as usual. Great food, great atmosphere, friendly service, and great quality for a decent price.
A. A.
Best breakfast spot i found while in Edinburgh for a week. Cozy atmosphere, great wifi, friendly staff, killer pastries, and *the most perfectly poached eggs I've ever enjoyed*.
Came back for 3 mornings, tried something new every time, it was a great find.
S.
Amazing food, great and efficient staff. The service is very quick. I have been eating here regularly for more than a year and I still have not found any issues.
I would definitely recommend it.
M. M.
Introduced to brunch at Loudon's by a friend, it's now become my favourite place to get coffee and catch up on the week's gossip.
Their sandwiches are a little pricey for everyday lunch-breaks from work, but as an occasional treat, they're perfect, with fresh, delicious ingredients that deviate from your standard cafe selections. But it's their weekend brunch where they really excel. I often find myself craving their Crombie's sausages, poached eggs and home-made toasted bread, served with cherry tomato salad dressed in olive oil. Even writing that is making me salivate.
It's the perfect venue to grab a quick Artisan Roast espresso with a friend, get taken in by the welcoming surroundings, and end up staying long enough to order a bottle of wine.
C. P. (.
We sat in the sun and enjoyed sweet fresh orange juice and the most amazing coffee. I loved the home made pizza! I recommend this café for a relaxing brunch. And they have WiFi, brilliant!
L. W.
4 of us went for lunch, all the food was amazing and their gluten free range was very extensive and superb tasting, however 2 of the party didnt get their food until 40 mins after wed ordered and chased 3 times which was very unfortunate however the manager did take our drinks off the bill which we were more than pleased with.
The food was delicious and would defo recommend and return
M. S.
Very family-friendly and lovely staff. A varied menu too - not the average breakfast stuff, it's creative. Looking forward to returning.
L. H.
We've just had a fantastic breakfast here today. Eggs perfectly poached, freshly brewed coffee . Loads of options for all the family. We'll be back tomorrow.
D. S.
This is a great spot to meet a friend for lunch, or just to pop in and have one of their amazing cakes! Loudon's has plenty of room which is dead handy in town, and their food is always made with great, fresh ingredients which makes it really tough to decide what to have. If you don't try anything else, try their brownies - amazing! They even have lovely little mini cake boxes so you can take the cakes away with you if you're too full!
M. B.
If you can eat one of their big plates at breakfast (>£10), it should keep you going all day. Light and airy. Unexpectedly expensive orange juice, but it was about half a pint.
A. R.
Cakes and tea with a homemade feel. Brilliant place if you want to read your book or catch up with emails and have tasty cake at the same time. It has lots of seats and tables but can get a little busy around lunch time, but still relaxing vibe.
E. E.
Very good coffee. Some nice meals. Haggis Benedict options are great. Full breakfast was a bit boring but fine. Not bad.
G. G.
Amazing food & fantastic customer service. Extremely baby friendly!! Bbq pulled pork power bowl & burger were delicious. Will definitely go again.
J. D.
sweet cozy place :) worth visit
C. H. T.
Great coffee. Delicious food.
U. A.
Super tasty breakfast, great sized portions (which you can take away if you can’t finish it all). Highly recommend the French toast and the pancakes!
C. R.
Went here for lunch this week and wow! If you like eggs benedict (or Bennys they are on the menu), this is the place for you. The Hoots ‘Mon Benny is out of this world, can’t wait to return to try more and maybe also a slice of cake!
C. W.
When we were in Edinburgh a few weeks ago we ate breakfast here twice. Food was lovely and service excellent. Highly recommended.
s. l.
I'm a bit of regular(ish) here, visit at least once every 1 or 2 months. I like the airiness of the cafe, big and open plan. Comfy sofas if you get there early or reserve. The cafe is always busy with a variety of people, mums meeting with their toddlers, businessmen using the free wifi, girlies gossiping, couples having a late breakfasts and knitting groups err... knitting!
Amazing homemade cakes on display on a large oak table, which you help yourself to and pay at the counter. Try the gamon eggs benedict - heaven! Food and drink is a little expensive here, I would have given them 5 stars if it was more reasonable. A glass of OJ costing £3.50! Hmm... is there vodka in that?!
Anyway, I do like it, the interior is clean, fresh and funky! Two elevations with floor to ceiling windows makes it great for people watching. They have a good stock of newspapers available to browse and the staff are friendly. Good for weekend catch-ups.

It's not a bad place at all - but never quite what I'm looking for. It's a modern cafe, tons of seating, and huge windows with a view of never-quite-sunny Fountainbridge. At the weekend, it seems to become a hub for parents-and-children, and cyclists.
The coffee and food are fine, although a little on the expensive side. Food's served till around 3. Though there's wifi, the open-plan space doesn't suit finding a cosy corner to concentrate on some work.
C. T.
Lovely sandwiches; pulled pork, pulled beef and tuna all great. Eggs benny was very good. Bright and airy space, just right for a weekend brunch
J.
A nice breakfast/brunch/lunch spot with a large selection of 'Bennys' (Eggs Benedict) with unique and delicious flavors. If you love an Eggs Benedict then look no further! Based on the Bennys alone it would be 5 stars but sadly the bloody mary's were horrendous!
h. h.
Staff are friendly and good food here.
M.
Delicious breakfast, almost all competely homemade even down to the baked beans. Gluten free options available for almost all of the menu however it was quite expensive paying £10 for a full English.
S. M.
Easily one of the best brunch places in Edinburgh. Coffee is brilliant, cakes are brilliant, and the eggs benedict is to die for. I mix up mine with pulled pork and salmon together - greedy old me!
C. B.
Food was great, me and my fiance had the full breakfast and it was really lovely, not too expensive and all the staff were really friendly, would highly recommend.
T. J.
Great food with attentive staff.
Z. P.
The first thing you see when you walk in here is that table of cakes... beyond tempting! If you're here for lunch and can manage to resist the cakes, you'll find some great lunch options – soups, pizza, quiche, sandwiches. Beyond the food, you'll notice that Loudons is both family friendly and freelancer friendly... with ample space for prams and free wifi for those with laptops.
J. B.
It was good the food but we didn't expect to get charged for toast
H. D. K.
Amazing brunch!! The buns are to die for!! Coffee and cake were brilliant. Plus, excellent service. Definitely the best brunch in Edinburgh.
J. R.
Well organised re covid measures. Felt safe. Very friendly staff. Excellent choice for breakfast with great quality food. Well done everyone at Loudons. 👍🙂
E. F.
farmily friendly, this cafe is also a favourite of the local office workers. the salads are delicious topped with a toasted seeds, the cakes are varied and scrumptious. plenty of gluten free options
E. T.
This place is simply fantastic. Baby friendly and just the thing we need when travelling .
N. L.
Absolutely superb breakfast made with excellent produce. Much better than a standard greasy spoon.
H. N.
There food is always good and creative, and their coffee too. I haven't found their staff particularly personable, but it's spacious and bright. It is far more expensive than most of the places around it.
M. M.
Good coffee, loads of space, tasty baking and damn comfy sofas! Only grumble is the price of food, it's certainly at the top end of cafes, but other than that, can't fault it. Flat white is a triumph.
W. A.
Lovely atmosphere. Welcoming staff. Food was delecious.
E. L.
a warm place to have breakfast !!!!!
Originally i would like to try the veggie english breakfast , but i wanna have something "scottish" instead :) thats porridge!!!! The banana porridge is super!!! I m so satisfied with the whole bowl of porridge, first time having a bowl of porridge that makes me full, :) nice!!
Also the smoothie with peanut butter in it is a must try, its not a very common way to add peanut butter , it surprisingly tastes so good , super comliment haha i m so happy because Breakfast is so important to me and i m fulfilled :)))))) of course the cheese scone, yummy i wanna come back to have breakfast at your place !!!
C. F.
Outstanding, If I ever come to Edinburgh again I'll be revisiting
R. V. W.
Atmosphere a tad soulless but Bennies were great. Good range. Coffee was good, but not world beating. Good GF options if you're into that sort of thing. Would break fast there again. 3.8 stars with a round up.
C. H.
Loudons bakes its own organic bread and cakes on the premises, and has lots of Gluten free options too. Their ethically sourced coffee is lovely and the water is available FOC to help yourself. Onb a weekend they always have the newspapers scattered about, even some outdoor tables. They serve an all-day brunch (9am to 3pm) at weekends includes eggs Benedict with smoked salmon which is awesome, warm spiced quinoa with dried fruit, and specials such as blueberry pancakes with fruit salad.
D. W.
The egg Benedicts here are really good. Make reservations. On a sunny day, this place gets really packed. After a good meal, take a walk along Union canal which is just nearby.
L. B.
Delicious food and coffee
J. J.
Large, spacious café.
Good coffee and excellent cakes.
Great for families, with babies, or professionals and students with laptops.
Not great for a cosy coffee chat with someone due to large open space.
J. O.
Excellent food, great service, fantastic atmosphere
a. a.
Good place serving breakfast
G. M.
Excellent place to go. All seems home made with fresh ingredients. Would strongly recommend making a reservation as at peak times there's always a queue.
E. P.
Friendly environment. Food was fine and reasonably priced. Pretty run of the mill brunch spot, fairly busy at 10 on a Saturday morning, as one might expect
J. H.
Went here the last three times I was in Edinburgh and it's a great breakfast. A bit on the expensive side for what you get but a nice place with good food and a quiet atmosphere regardless.
G. M.
Tasty homemade cakes and veggie pizzas, delicious teas and a comfortable space to either meet with friends or work in comfort (free wifi). Great choice of gluten free and dairy free cakes, too.
M. M.
Friendly staff, good food and quick service! :)
N. P.
Highly recommended if you are in the area. Huge range of breakfast meals. Very delicious. The place is huge so seating should not be a problem.
J. B.
One of the best vegetarian breakfasts I have ever had. Also really good if you are gluten intolerant as they provide really good quality alternatives.
L. A. R.
I ordered the fruit of the forest pancake. It was so good that I'm sitting here writing the review right now. Amazing food, portions were perfect size and service was incredible
L. B.
I absolutely love Loudons! It is my favorite place in Edinburgh, they have great food and lovely coffee. The cafe is a lovely space, there is a lot of light and I just really love hanging out there,
K. S.
Best place to have a breakfast or brunch in Edinburgh. Plenty of options, amazing food and super cool staff. Great place for couples, family and even for larger groups.
S. H.
The best place for brunch in town, we are regulars here and love the coffee and pancake specials in particular. There can be a queue at busy times but its worth the wait!
許.
Delicious !!! I will come back :)
A. K.
Best breakfast in Edinburgh, helpful and polite stuff
T. F.
Bright and airy cafe. I had a decent lunch, well cooked. Prices reasonable given location. Staff really on the ball. Worth going back to.
D. M.
Having been to Loudons a few times, I can thoroughly recommend going at the weekend, their breakfasts - particularly their eggs benedict are fantastic! When I went on a weekday, I was disappointed to find that their big breakfast menu is weekend only, but I pretty soon got over that by perusing their giant table of cake!
The variety of people in Loudons always makes me smile, from mum's with buggies, to older couples in for coffee and to read the Sunday papers, to people who sit writing furiously on their macbooks. Loudons really does have something for everybody.
F. D. K.
A bit too noisy for me. Packed in the weekend. Their portions are huge, so you will be full. But it tasted really good.
M. H.
Lovely place with amazing food.
J. T.
Great breakfast and a decent portion. The coffee was probably the best one we had while staying in Edinburgh aswell!
E. H.
They have glutenfree options! A great place to eat a big breakfast, the tea from PekoeTea is also amazing.
Y. M.
Wasn't a lot of choice on the menu, but the food was lovely and staff very pleasant and friendly
A. B.
They have an amazing selection of gluten free, dairy free & vegan plus a great selection of cakes. The staff were very helpful and my meal was excellent!!
S. D.
I'm sure everyone has already commented on the wonderful Eggs Benedicts that you can buy here... So I guess that's a fairly useless addition on my part... They've got a really sexy orange squeezing machine too 😀 🍊
A. d. M. C.
Awesome breakfast place. The vegan options are very tasty, but I would love to see more options on the menu.
E. R.
The Vegetarian breakfast was incredible - highly recommended.
Great place to have breakfast in for our first morning in Edinburgh
M. L.
Service friendly and warm. Had the full breakfast. Hot and delicious! I didn't touch the blood sausage, that always freaks me out.
K. P.
Yeah... right.... we wanted to try something different and.... we did ;) quite interesting menu.... meals nicely presented , fresh and tasty . Highly recommended for new visitors of the Edynburg !
E. P. L.
Friendly staff, clean, nice atmosphere and menu. Food (brunch) was very tasty. Baby and child friendly.
F. G.
Was here for the first time on Saturday with a group of friends, everyone was really happy with their choice but I found my pancakes very stodgy. I would come back but would choose something else.
R. B.
Stopped by in the afternoon for some cake but they had very little selection. Coffee was alright but the banana cake ended up tasting a bit dry.
J. A.
I loved the place great service, tasty food very well done presentation. Our waiter Claudio was fabulous and my children love him thank you Claudio.
P. C.
Lovely food, service slow & eggs cool
C. P.
Lovely cafe with great food and friendly staff. Many gluten free and vegetarian options. The coffee is fantastic.
P. D.
Friendly staff and great food! I had the French toast with bacon and maple syrup and it was delicious!
T. A.
What happened to the huge menu? Also no more vegeterian options for Bennys, which were why we used to go in the past... Disappointed :(
Z. 6.
This place is superb! The breakfast was great, and the guys who looked after us, was fantastic!
C. I.
Amazing eggs benedict. The Cajun Benny with crayfish, avocado and bacon is incredible. Great coffee too.
H.
Easily one of the best venues I have been to this year, great food, fast and friendly service. Would highly recommend
J. R.
Recommended place for a daytime meal. The decor is clean and fresh and great staff providing excellent service.
G. G.
Spacious cafe. Good light meal and breakfast menu, more imaginative than than usual.
R. P. V.
Coffee is good and this cafe has a very bright atmosphere. One of my favourite places to spend a few hours working. Staff are very friendly as well.
M. L.
Really nice place for brunch/lunch, the pork meat bowl was amazing.
A. L.
Coffee was not as good as I expected in Edinburgh, but the food and service was good. Great big space so you're likely to get a table.
E. M.
Excellent place with super service and great food. I come here every time I visit my son in Edinburgh. Lovely, smiling, helpful staff! A no brainer!
K. T.
Really good service, tasty food. Good selection of coffees and teas. Try the La Perla bean if you like a sweet latte
G. W.
Pricey, but the food and service are both usually very good. It can get incredibly busy especially at weekends, when there are often queues to get in and there can be a bit of a wait for orders.
A. M.
Felt a bit underwhelmed since the reviews are generally so positive. Breakfast was ok but can't say I would rush back.
T. S.
Superfood pancakes outstanding. Plus two very good GF cakes. Highly recommend.
J. C.
This is my favorite breakfast spot in Edinburgh. Great gluten-free dairy-free options and loose leaf teas.
小.
Good breakfast, serves vege option and flat white was good. Try the pan cake, something different. Friendly and atmosphere.
S. B.
Yummy Mummies and geeky be-headphoned programmers aren't normally seen together, but they appear to make an exception for Loudon's. An airy, bright space, Loudon's has a modern feel not often found in Edinburgh cafes, and with free wifi and friendly staff it's brilliant place for both working and chatting. The cakes are amazing and the food good too, but meals are only served until 3pm so this is not the best place to go for a late lunch - and the vegetarian options sell out quickly, so planning is recommended! There is one big problem with Loudons, though, which might worry pronounciation pedants enough to put them off their cake, and that's the name: is it "Loo-dons" or "Low-dens"?!
A. T.
Unreasonably expensive for basic dishes and such small portions. Not cozy atmosphere: no music, smell of cooking food left on clothes. Basic.
L. C. W.
Absolutely loved my breakfast there and the staff was super friendly. Especially Jack was great and really funny :)
H. M.
Caters for (multiple) dietary requirements wonderfully. There are a wide range of food and drink options, most of which are well labelled with common allergens in the menu.
M. B.
Fantastic breakfast. Hubby said it was the best eggs Benedict he has ever had!
n. t.
It was nice, great service , but I've had better breakfasts in Edinburgh, coffee needs to be changed though !

N. K.
Fantastic breakfast. Fast and friendly. Good options for allergies. Perfect.
J. D. B.
Great cafe. Lovely coffee and good food, a little pricy and portions small but still a good find

Great place to get brunch at the weekends - one of the best places to get Eggs Benedict in Edinburgh - although go earlyish - it gets super busy at the weekend!
B. N.
Food was OK, apart from the plastic in the veggie sausage... Overpriced and not a great atmosphere. I wouldn't bother

L. H.
Amazing! Well recommended, couldn't ask for better staff or food.
P. I.
Wonderful food and service.. very clean, safe and spacious.. Will be back.

You would expect that paying £10,95 for breakfast you would at least get a full mushroom..that wasn't the case. disappointing
A. S.
Great gluten and dairy free options! Extremely helpful staff and tasty food!
S. N.
Amazing breakfast great coffee - eggs and haggis wow! You must go here on a stop to Edinburgh!
