Reviews of The Piemaker
e. v.
Have heard good reviews about The Piemaker, and it was no disappointment. Had amazing hot and crispy pies- tried the haggis pie and today's special steak ale. Both were different and tasted really good. Would definitely recommend to try The Piemaker if coming to Edinburgh.
J.
Lovely range of different freshly baked goods, good ol' sausage roll and Mac n cheese pie
Would've liked to try everything, only thing I didn't find too great was the outer crust on the mac was a tad dry
A. L.
Good quality food, reasonably priced and quickly served.
Great range of pies, pasties and pastry bakes including specialties that are hard to find elsewhere in the city centre like macaroni pie, haggis pie and tattie dogs.
Highly tasty and served hot unlike in certain chain store bakeries!
G. v.
While wandering around Edinburgh I hungry stumbled into this place.
And it is Great!
I ordered a macoroni cheese pie and a lemonade.
It was so good I came back each day I was in the city , and made sure to get food from here for my train journey home
J. B.
Great pies, great prices.
Some of the best meat pies I've had.
R. G.
Bought a chicken & mushroom pie on the way to the station. What a delight. Beautiful pastry, well seasoned and stayed crispy when I ate it several hours later, cold. Do yourself a favour and make this place a stop while you’re in Edinburgh. Good pies, done well.
R. A.
So tasty , fresh and delicious. Affordable, friendly staff.
Highly recommend.
R. B.
I stopped in for pies to eat on the train. 10/10 would recommend. The proprietor gave his recommendations and that ended up being my favorite. There was a good selection of veggie and vegan options, as well.
A. K.
I cannot express how much I adore this shop. Having stayed at a hotel nearby, it was my much preferred meal option -- a convenient, reasonably priced and filling meal option that stands out amidst the others in the area. A very big fan of their Steak Scotch Pie.
P. W.
My wife and I visited Edinburgh as part of a retirement/40th wedding anniversary vacation. We visited the castle. We visited the Royal Yacht Britannia. We ate at some wonderful restaurants. But today, as I plan my next visit from my home in Utah (some 4500 miles from Edinburgh), I know that my first stop will be The Piemaker. It was perfect--from the variety to the price but, most importantly, to the wonderful, flavor-full deliciousness of the food. Thanks to The Piemaker for doing it right.
R. C.
This was our FAVORITE place to eat in ALL of Edinburgh!! Easily, Scotland's best and freshest pastries and pies made on location. The steak pie was amazing and their turnovers were unreal!! So flakey, they fall apart in your mouth!! A must try when in Scotland!!
K. L.
This place was just okay. The pie dough was not very good. Very hard and not flaky like I was wanting. The filling in the steak pie was good but we did not like the mac and cheese filled pie nor the minced meat.
Just definitely not the best pies you can get in the city. The employee working was very kind.
J. B.
I love this place 😍 It was my first visit today and I will be sure to return. We both had the vegetarian haggis pie. Great value and tasty. Excellent range for vegetarians and vegans.
s. j.
What a great place for quick snacks and desserts. Good Hygiene and well behaved staff makes it even better. My go to place everytime I crave a pie😋
N. S.
Chose here when looking for a quick bite to eat before catching train home. Had a great experience. Food was great and staff friendly. Thank you!
J.
One of the best places for cheap eats in Edinburgh! The pies are perfect for a quick bite or snack, can't go wrong with a classic Scottish meat pie.
N. K.
Cheap, filling- you know what you’re getting!
Can recommend the haggis pie
So good you will fly.
Vegan options were dry
Change it or I will say bye!
A. W.
Good grub, friendly and knowledgeable staff. Popped here to pick something to eat for breakfast instead of getting breakfast at the hotel. Really nice grub, and not too pricey either. Good local food spot, with options for vegetarians and vegans. Hitting all the right notes here.
T. S.
My local friend suggested we go here for a quick bite after Arthur's seat, I wasn't disappointed. Really well-made pies in huge variety. The haggis and cottage pie were phenomenal. You eat it in the shop or take it away.
M. N.
I had the original Scotch and the chicken & mushroom pies, as well as the daily soup. Each items are around £2, and all are delicious. Good for a quick lunch stop.
D. T.
Very cheap prices - but that doesn't mean it tastes cheap - bought three pies and all of them were very good. Would defo eat there again
S. A.
Where to start! Such an amazing array of pies and pastries! The haggis pie with mash was great. But the best was the macaroni cheese pie. We went there every morning for breakfast. And loved it so much we took a few pies to give to friends back home! Nom nom extra noms.
W.
Had the vegetarian Haggis pie and it was delicious 👌
Nice shop and friendly staff with variety of pie options!
No seating area, just grab and go
L. W.
Friendly people, pies are made daily. Still very hot when served! Plenty of choice and good taste.
R. S.
Dropped in whilst visiting Edinburgh for the first time. We had a Scotch pie and a Haggis pie, both were amazing. The service was 1st class. Will recommend this place to anyone visiting the city.
S. P.
Great shop with an extensive selection of pies, sweets and even soup of the day. Highly recommended 😋😋
P. P.
Quality pies for a quick, cheap bite. As someone not used to savory pies, I was obsessed. Very little seating room inside, so a good place to grab a pie to-go (they are well suited to eating with your hands).
H. S. o. S. S. B. T. W.
Best and cheapest place to eat in Edinburgh! They have wonderful pies! Also recommended in our blog post about Edinburgh :)
D. H.
Had the Steak Scotch Pie (diced shoulder steak and sauce) and half of my wife’s Traditional Pasty (with minced beef, potato, onion, swede & turnip), and both were fantastic! The crusts were flaky and perfectly baked, and the fillings were flavorful. We also shared a Cherry Turnover for dessert. It was also delicious! The prices were very reasonable, too! The seating accommodations are limited to about about 8 stools at counters in the front, so when it’s busy, take away will be the best bet. Either way, it’s well worth the short side trip off of Edinburgh’s Royal Mile.
K. F.
If you are in Edinburgh don't miss out on visiting The Piemaker on South bridge as they make the best pies ever😋. Best to just drop in and have a pie and a drink
D. S.
Very unassuming place with decent prices. Pies were hot and delicious, probably the best place in town for a hearty budget meal.
S. W.
Choose a delicious Moroccan spiced bean pastie ,they have a wide variety of pies and pasties to suit everyone, highly recommended you to visit
T. W. B. D.
It's a little shop, where you can get different types of pie, with feta, mushroom & chicken, haggis, and sweet as well. There are not many chair to sit in, but it's quite a nice place, where you can get a delicious snack while you're visiting the city.
A. A.
Amazing pies, we went there few times for breakfast. Had scotch and haggis Pies, they were so cheap, so i always got multiple pots before going around and exploring the city of edinburgh. I wouldn't mind having breakfast here everyday! Place always full. It's a quality food with reasonable prices! They even open till late, one time we bought pies when we were drunk after pub nights
M. L.
Despite the busy festival, Lukas greeted us with a smile every time we walked in. Nice, friendly, calm, and ALWAYS THERE ha ha! Well done Lukas and the team!!
A. W.
Delicious pies at a great price!
C. C.
The pies are yummy, filling, and affordable. Plus the shop stays open until late. What's not to love?
M. C.
Very tasty cottage pie, minced and mash, for less than £2.5. A must if you don't wanna spend and wanna grab a tasty quick bite in Edinburgh
K. W.
A must to eat at this little lunch spot! The very best vegan sausage rolls ever! In fact I had two! Flaky pastry and the filling was so delicious! If you have a chance to eat here when you are near the Royal Mile, please stop in! Friendly service and great food!
G. P.
Best pies in Edinburgh with good price. Very recommend to try. But the coffee was moderate.
B. G.
We really enjoyed the pies and specialties! The pieman Lucas is so welcome and his pie is delicious!
L. B.
Life-saver. 5/5, the pie with mash on the top is one of the best pies that I've ever had in my life. Low price, top quality.
A.
Amazing pies both savoury and sweet. Really tasty vegan menu and some unique popular treats like the tattie dog!
M. S.
Lovely amazing pice probably the best in Scotland.
We went to this place twice once in the morning and once again the next day when they had fresh pies in the morning. The Paisa absolutely delicious and I must say they are very heavy on the stomach so be careful.
A.
Great place for traditional Scottish pies. We tried the Haggis, Steak and Chicken. The pies are very fresh and warm. Always busy with locals.
s.
Everything was excellent that it's
I highly recommend, if you want to try Scottish taste !
V. H.
i got the spinach verges and it was absolutely delicious! the best thing i have eaten in scotland. i definitely recommend coming here
B.
Popped in to try the traditional scotch pie and was overwhelmed with choices. If this was on my door step I'ld be going here everyday for lunch.
Was able to sit inside and eat the pie however the seated area is small (3/4 chairs). Would say its more of a take away than a stay and eat. Enjoy
雪.
My friend suggested me that this has the best pies around here !! I really enjoyed the meal, thank you 😊
m. f.
Love the piemaker always visit when in Edinburgh. Quick eats of great original pies.
M. L.
I had the Haggis Pie and it was quite peppery, but I'll be back to try other flavours :)
D. M.
Really nice deep filled pies and pastries fairly prices however worth it due to the size.and taste. Had the large steak slice which was really tasty, big chunks of meat and it was nice and peppery. Would recommend if in need for a pie
C. B.
Absolutely incredible pies. Best value for a quick bite in Old Town.
K. P.
So fresh and hot pies, the best street food I had in Scotland.
M. C.
Stumbled on this little spot, and had to come back. Very tasty meat pastries of various kinds at very very reasonable prices.
C. G.
I have eaten here a few times and rate it as average. The rude personnel must have been replaced as the people who served me have been perfectly polite. As far as I am concerned the best Scotch/mince pies are made by Mathieson's the butcher in Ratcliffe Terrace.
B. G.
Excellent pies, one of the best I have had.
It was piping hot and fresh - the traditional scotch pie, chicken n mushroom pie, chilli cheese dog, apple pie are exceptional!
Marcello's service was incredible. He was thoughtful and excellent with his suggestions. We will return for sure.
E. “. A.
Don't think I've been to the Piemaker in over a decade and honestly I've been missing out.
Freshly baked handmade pastries are so so good. And that's before we even get to the Tattie Dogs.
Not somewhere to go every day if you like your wallet being full and your clothes loose, but definitely worth sampling their food
N. B.
Now I know why this shop is super famous. Love their pie except mac&cheese pie.
A. A.
If you’re visiting Edinburgh for the first time, this place is a must!
A. P.
Steak pie was absolutely delicious! And the staff very accomodating and friendly. Strongly recommend.
m. i.
Having used piemaker since it opened on and off, I took my son for the first time and he loved it, just miss yohans banter.
H. V.
If you’re looking for a traditional scottish pie, this is your place! The chicken and mushroom pie was amazing!
M. H.
Good pies, friendly service. Only downside is the small size of the place and plastic cutlery that are easily broken.
A. M.
I had a original scotch pie, it was delicious. I do recommend this place.
L. K.
Absolutely exceptional scotch and haggis pies!
D.
Very good traditional scottish pies
J.
Had the steak pie and mince meat pie here, and both were awesome. Toasty, crispy, fresh dough and the fillings were juicy and flavorful. Prices were very reasonable as both were around £2-2.50. Looking forward to trying their other flavors such as chicken and Mac n cheese. Highly recommend this place for an essential British food!
T. T.
Very tasty haggis pie as well as the scotch one.
M. T.
Fantastic customer service. Website said open 10.30am. Got there closed . I called them and a gentleman said we open 11am I said website says 10.30am. He asked what we wanted and he let us have some of their lovely steak pies. Hubby gutted thinking he
wasnt going to get his pies before train came
J. H.
A nice location to stop by for a quick pie. Good quality for a fair price and friendly staff. I tried the haggis pie here first and it was pleasantly good. This was my first taste at the start of my first vacation here so I don't have any other to compare it to but nonetheless was quite good. I've already went back a second time for another bite and I'll surely be back again in the following days.
D. F.
Pies, pies and pies. With bridies and turnovers for a bit of variety. If pastry wrapped fillings are what you are looking for, these are your guys. I had the steak scotch pie, very nice, not stingy on meat or gravy
V. M.
Great selection of pies at really great prices! The macaroni cheese is my absolute favourite! Small but nice space for sitting in to eat. Really great quality and good veggie options. I visit whenever I'm after a simple but filling and tasty bite to eat!
V. C.
Delicious steak scotch pie and original scotch pie. Very reasonably priced. Can sit in and eat
J. S.
I love me some pies. I think one of my favourite foods in general is mini, savoury pies.
I got the flaky haggis, the steak, and the mac and cheese!
My favourite was the haggis, then mac and cheese, and last the steak.
They were all so delicious though. Warm, tasty, and filling.
You can pay by card but only over a certain amount.
Montreal equivalent: Ta Pies!
V. C.
Amazing little pie shop that is also cheap! They have tons of options, including vegan and vegetarian pastries. The potato roll is incredible! Definitely my favorite place to grab a pie from in Edinburgh. Delicious with super friendly staff and great prices.
E. F.
Great pies—especially the Macaroni cheese pie! You can’t say you have been to Edinburgh without visiting here! 5 out of 5!
D.
Lovely pies in a friendly environment. Try the tatty dog :-)
L. M.
Here I found the most delicious pies for such a reasonable price! I got several meals here, each very filling and usually less than £2. Great place if you're on a budget or if you just want some delicious traditional haggis pie!
F. M.
Good a usual , it was couple of years since last I been there and It's still good as always. It may go a little edit up in price ,, but fair enough
A. N.
I've been going to this baker for many years and it has an undeniable quality that few other bakers in the city can match. It's small and has limited seating, but it's all about the takeaway option- especially in the summer or during the festival.
My favourite is the cheeseburger puff: a light pastry, with relish and sausage centre flattened to look like a burger.
R. H.
This is my favourite place for pies and pasties in Edinburgh. Lots of veggie and vegan options, both salty and sweet. Ability to sit in or take out. The seating area is small but cosy, and looking out onto the busy street outside is part of the experience. They only take cash, so make sure you're prepared!
S. G.
The pies we had were of a good size and had tasty fillings. The soup, while it could have been a few degrees hotter, was also very good and wholesome, unlike the blended mush that passes for soup in many other places.
Amazing value for money given the city centre location.
E. L.
Best pies there!!! Recommended highly
D. P.
I love this pie shop and make a point of visiting it a couple of times every year at the Edinburgh Fringe. My favourite is their fiery cheese dog. I also really like their cherry pies. My only complaint is that they always seem to sell out very quickly of the cherry pies so you've got to visit there early in the day to get them!
C. L.
Delicious pies at the best price. Try the haggis pie.
M. L.
I had read a lot of good things about Piemaker and I had just been walking up Arthur's seat and was hungry and decided to pop in.
The place is small, but the smell when you enter is very enticing. The smell of Baking pies fills your nose and your mouth starts watering. The place was quite full of locals having their lunch and I went to the till and ordered. I had an pizza roll, a steak and ale pie and a cup of tea.
The pizza roll was great, a lovely tomato sauce inside with perfect pieces of pepperoni. The steak pie was divine. A delicious, thick gravy, nice big chunks of steak and you could really taste the ale. The tea was good too, strong and brisk.
It all cost just £5! Just a fiver. Cracking value.
F. S.
The best pies we have had in a long time! We understand why the place has such great reviews. We got three pies - the scotch (like a sausage roll in pie form), the macaroni cheese and a shepherds pie. Our only regret was that we didn't buy more.
G. B.
Great quality pies and pastries at reasonable prices. Fillings very flavoursome and not greasy and stogey like they can often be. Very small amount of seating so not ideal to sit in. Late opening hours so especially good for a snack at the end of the night.
L. C.
My experience at the Pie Maker was Awesome. My Man had a Traditional Scotch Pie and A Tattie Dog both with a bit of Brown Sauce. He scoffed them down and said they were Tastey. Far better than Gregg's as the food was Freshly cooked and at a Perfect Heat ready to Eat.
A. M.
Probably the best Scotch Pie I've ever tasted
J. s.
Good selection of pies and other pasties. Food is tasty and always warm. Decent prices too!
B. B.
A group of friends and I visited Edinburgh last year. We went to this shop every day. They are still talking about it and how I need to learn to make these pies (I am the group baker). Any chance you'd be interested is selling or trading recipes? Beverly of Fortune"s Cookies USA
m. I.
best pie shop in town and really good value, the staff are really lovely folk and i love being a regular at this place. its really good for take aways and quick snacks and beats Greggs any day with similar pricing too at that! 😁 whats not to like, a big 5 stars from me ☺️
A. H.
Its cheap and cheerful, the staff are friendly, the coffee is strong (just how i like it) and the food is tasty. Been here 3 times now and its always nice. Cheeseburger is huge and awesome, the tattie dogs are amazing, as is the chocolate doughnuts
B. S.
Average meat pie shop. Had a wide range of offerings. I liked the pasty! But did not care for the Mac and cheese or the mashed potato and steak pies.
Very small place with somewhat uncomfortable seating. It has a great local/hole in the wall vibe and very friendly staff. I think it was cash only too.
B. G.
Great pies, both sweet and savoury!
N. l.
Nice products, easy to get to and a good selection including macaroni pies and scotch pies.
G. H.
Fantastic pies. We split 5 different ones and they were all great. My 6 year old son only gave it 5/10 stars but then explained it was only because it was really 15/10 and it was that good. Very friendly. We are out pies inside so I'm not sure what that 1 star review is taking about. Most people did take away though.
F. H.
Being Australians my partner and I have been on the hunt for a fair dinkum meat pie and stumbling on to the Piemaker has made us obviously very happy. Great priced pies and a good selection. Get there earlier in the day to snap up more from the selection as its not uncommon in the afternoon to discover they've sold out.
Highly recommended
I. F.
Lovely little shop specialising in bakery pie products including the infamous Scotch Pie. First time trying one but it was absolutely delicious. Cheap too at just £1.45 for a thick meaty pie.
A. F.
Cheap, delicious and quick... just like pies should be... what more can I say? You might think mac and cheese in a pie is not a great idea, but it is amazing! and for less than £2!
N. C.
If you love a good pie at a good price this is your place. They offer cutlery and plates for those who like to eat neatly and free sauces (which I think is compulsory for a good pie shop). Definitely hit the spot for a quick lunch!
T. S.
Went here today and was disappointed. Pies were dry and not full of flavour. Their sausage rolls on the other hand were very good.
L. W.
Mon the pies!! If ever a lover of a hearty, hot & crisp pie then this is the place for you. Always a vast selection of delectable & crunchy pies that brim with delicious fillings. Big fan of the chilli dog, just an utter joy to grab n go and will likely have you turning back for more. A great pie is truly an unappreciated art and The Pie Maker have got it down to perfection. If ever hungover, grab an iron bru n head into these local legends. Ye shan't regret it. If on a strict diet, ignore that diet and get a pie 😄
T. B.
Flakey, buttery pastry for a bargain! My gluttonous self ordered about 4-5 items and paid no more than £7. The employees are very amicable and eager to help! (Except for this one guy, but the baked goods were so scrumptious I forgot about his attitude as I walked out the door.)
J. C.
Ultra cheap but good quality pies, amazing for the price. Haggis pie was awesome. Staff didn't seem happy to see customers though, but hey, its not a restaurant (there are some seats though) so it didn't matter much.
L. W.
It's been something like four years since the last time I was here, and yet I still remember the bacon baps. In fact, the only reason I'm even writing this is because I was talking about some of my favorite places in Edinburgh, and while there's some much "nicer" food spots that I remember, the first thing I will always think of are the bacon baps. My sister and I stopped in here for a light lunch, and were somewhat limited by the fact that they only took cash and we only had a few quid on us. However, we had enough for a two bacon baps, and they were fantastic. We sat down, ate, and went on our way. After a few minutes of walking, I rerouted us back to the apartment to grab more cash so that I could go back and get another sandwich. The people working laughed a little bit, and then loaded it up with around twice the usual quantity of bacon. I was ok with this. It ruined the "light" part of lunch, but I'll remember this place fondly forever, and always try to stop back in when I'm in Edinburgh. Love their foods!!!
T. N.
We do not recommend this place.
I had the steak and ale and scotch pie. Husband had the Mac and cheese pie along with some sort of potato wrapped sausage. Mac and cheese pie was good. Steak and ale was just slightly above average. I did not like the scotch pie. The customer service from the man behind the counter was absolute trash. For whatever reason, I guess I rubbed him the wrong way from the moment I spoke to him. He was utterly rude with every word out of his mouth dripping with animosity. I gave this place three stars because the pie is simply slightly above average. The lack of good customer service and hostility will make sure we don’t ever come back.
My husband and I are nice and kind people. If we experience poor customer service, more often than not, we are understanding that some people just have bad days. In this instance, we sat and ate at the window and watched one customer after another come in and was greeted with an entirely different and more kind attitude by the man. For whatever reason, his unwarranted animosity was just geared at us.
Bottom line? We won’t come back, that doesn’t mean you won’t get treated differently. Food is just average.
C. T.
Probably the best handpie I have ever tasted! I had the scotch pie and it was delicious. The pastry was crisp and had a good flavour and the meat inside just fell appart. Just the right amount of sauce/gravy inside. The puffpastry topped steak, ale and mushroom pie was also very flavoursome. The guy who served us was welcoming and friendly. Would definitely recommend for a quick bite for lunch
M. B. F. E.
From Calgary Canada, just gotta say I wish there was a place like this back home. Bought a couple different meat pies wasn't sure if one was going to be enough, correct choice. I could've eaten three right there and then. Cramped little place so dinning in isn't ideal but worth the visit.
B.
Super fast service on crazy busy day. Pies were outstanding and right temperature. Inexpensive comfort food. The chili cheese was so good I had to get another one!
S. G.
Some of the best pies I've ever had at a very good price. The haggis pie is amazing. Highly recommended!
D. J.
There is a Pie for everyone here and they are delicious!! You can eat in or takeaway. Coffee is available. They also take orders if you want to cater for larger numbers. Great staff!! Give them a try.
N. B.
A delicious, upmarket Greggs that sadly doesn't open as late as it used to (it was an ideal lighter alternative to a kebab or chips upon leaving the pub). Still very well-made pies and pasties, with lovely flaky pastry and wholesome fillings.
P. M.
Very good experience. Tasty food, pleasant staff and fair prices. Great view of next door's sainsbury's bananas 🍌👌
A.
Lots of options to choose from, friendly folks.
J. K.
The cheese and onion bake is a heavenly experience. Quick, easy, and affordable.
L. B.
This place is great! It has delicious and various pies to choose from the amazing tati dog (a hotdog in a potato covering) to vegan/vegetarian options too! Nice a chill place to sit in and eat but there is limited space. Great prices and tasty food! Highly recommend!
J. K.
Very tasty, filling
Honestly and fairly priced.
Cottage pie was super yummy
D. R. F.
Great variety of pies, both meat and vegetarian, hot and cold drinks, all at very reasonable prices. Open late weekends and during the festival. The tattie dog is a testament to deliciousness.
K. B.
Best pie ship in Edinburgh for speed and value. Jam packed during the festival. Very good value pies and they're always warm. Steak pie is actually hotter than lava.
k. t.
One of the best choice in Edinburgh city for freshly made pies. Traditional Scottish choices and some mainstream. Excellent taste and professional behaviour. Must go
T. c.
No bad cheap and always warm but they do seem to make them by the numbers and the casing had a funny taste to it like bi Soda carbs or something , some of the stuff struggle with English.
If your looking for something cheap , British grub quick and warm in modern Edinburgh this is as good as it will get though.
G. a. S. M.
Good scotch pie, pasty (make sure you pronounce it right!) and cherry turnover! Loved being able to sit for a bit at the window and people watch. Not a lot of room to sit, but worth it.
T. P.
The most delicious pies and pastries in Edinburgh. Maybe the world. Plenty of vegan options too. :-)
P. M.
Good quick food. Irritable rude disinterested staff. Poor guy wants to correct everyone's pronunciation of things. Reasonable but doing it with poor manners ruins the lesson. If you can't handle being around tourists, don't open a shop in a tourist area. Feel bad for how angry he is.
W. T.
Lucas was awsome inside who severe us our food. 🥧 Pie's were outrageously good!!! Highly recommended!!!
J. H.
Every time I've been in Edinburgh for the Festival Fringe, I think the majority of my meals have come from here.
The huge selection of pies are inexpensive and very tasty; and for some reason I start to crave them months after I've left the city and returned home. Stopping by here becomes one of the first things I have to do when I visit.
T. F.
The pies are great! We tried around 5 or 6 pies (except the mac & cheese one) and all were really good and we end up going there twice in two days
J.
Piemaker is No1 for Pies and other pastry filled delights... Though you must try the Tattie Dog if you visit too obviously as a side to your pie. 👍
A. F.
I tried the haggis, neeps and mash pie and it was awesome. Also had a taste of the Scottish pie which was very good as well. My dad really enjoyed his steak and ale pub special. Great food at a great price.
J. W.
Epic pies at epic prices. Best I've had in a long long time
A. L.
Summary: Tasty pies at a decent price; perfect fast food, and unique to Edinburgh.
The Piemaker can be found just off the Royal Mile in Edinburgh's City Centre. Since 1995, it has sold a wide variety of pies and pasties, catering for meat-lovers and vegetarians alike, and even to those with a sweet tooth. In addition to its famous pie-centric fare, the shop also sells baguettes, rolls, burgers, soup, cakes, doughnuts, coffees, soft drinks, and more, making it a perfect pit-stop when you're on the move, especially as it opens to 11pm from Thursday to Saturday. Though a small shop, a few window seats are provided if you need to have a sit as you tuck in to your food.
The Piemaker is definitely worth a visit if you're looking for an alternative to the ubiquitous Greggs bakery. However, be aware that lunch-time queues can be long.

Delicious pies and good options for vegetarian and vegan food also.
A. G.
Great place to get a snack! There are a lot of veggie options and the prices are great. You can get a cheese and macaroni pie for £1.20. I usually stop by on my way to princess street
H. O.
Great pies! Really nice and great price (about £1-£3 per pie and a good size). Good range of meat ones and veggie & vegan too!
S. M.
Just great great pies!
A. O.
Amazing pies and a great soup. Awesome combination when you need a quick bite, and it's also quite affordable!
P. M.
Between the 6 of us over a weekend in Edinburgh we tried the Scotch pie, the Scotch steak pie, the Haggis pie, the Haggis roll and the fiery cheese dog. All fresh, red hoy and delicious. Highly recommend.
B. W.
Locals and visitors come for the delicious pastys this place has to offer. All for £1-3 each. Limited sitting space but suitable for takeaway. Mac and cheese pie is a top seller.
A. D.
The potato pastry and tomato rings were great. The spinach turnover had too many layers of uncooked pastry and not enough filling. More vegan pies would bring me back.

I returned here last week, the people were lovely and food amazing - rectifying my previous experience:
Ilove the food here. I was bitterly disappointed today when I went in for a couple pies and a couple drinks and I had a very unpleasant experience. The man gave me an Irish tenner change - I politely requested a Scottish one (fully ready to be turned down and willing to accept the Irish one). Instead of stating "no, this is legal tender" and turning me away, he began questioning my nationality and saying "No this is legal tender- What are you English?! Well I know to not try to hand notes to an English person in the future!" .
I'm not English, however wether I am or not is irrelevant, I wasn't confrontational at all during the transaction, and feel disappointed that my pie eating experience and day were ruined, and that I didn't stand up for myself more. It was a shame to see that after being a long standing customer that the service, and quality of pies, has gone down.
I. D.
I enjoyed my minced pie! I will recommend it to anyone who is in Edinburgh - go have a real taste of Scotland! Freshly baked pies including the Scottish Pie. Oh, and really affordable.
D. W.
Edinburgh legend. Even now, I've moved out the city, if I don't get a "Tattie Dog" when I'm in town, it's a wasted journey. Also hate to admit that the "firey cheese dog" is just as good, despite lack of actual dog (veg friendly). They use to make a "Lasagne Pie" years ago, should get that badboy back as well!
K. m.
Delicious Scottish food.
The guy called Javier was very polite and friendly.
One of the best store clerk I ever meet, very funny guy.
S.
This was my first meat pie in the UK. I went back the same night and got 2 more. Man talk about delicious! Get the Scott steak pie. And bring an extra for me!
A. A.
Quick, in the city centre, cheap, very good, you can seat inside if you want, drinks also. The best choice for me is the Fiery cheesy dog, awfully tasty and vegetarian!
C. B.
Delicious fresh hot pies, perfect for a snack whilst having a windy walk round Edinburgh!
The shortbread is great too!
o. s.
I tried cheese pie. Nice pie for reasonable price
N. V. d. B.
I recommend this to everyone that I know is going to Edinburgh. Already planning to come here for my 30th birthday to place a candle on my pie!
Edit after my 30th birthday: I did enjoy my birthday pie but forgot to bring my candles :'(
F. M.
Love their pies!
B. B.
Simply GREAT!! I stayed 7 days in Edinbr and almost 5 I ate a pie so I can say all the pies are incredible. Good taste and good price. Very kind workers.
E. D.
Delicious pies at a great price! Service and atmosphere leave something to be desired. But can’t complain at the price!
j. r.
Brilliant pie place, wish they would bring back the cheese burger pie..
L. O.
Good place to know about for a late night supper enroute home from an evening out. I has a macaroni pie and it was tasty.
Nice to see veggie options too. good value.
A. L.
Several vegan options. For me, the best of them is the potato roll. Good option if you decide to eat on the street and spend little money.
A. P.
Possibly the best pies I've ever eaten. Good price to.
H.
Real Scottish meat pies. They taste great!
W. E.
Nice place here, the pies are not from a conveyer belt they taste home made and are fastastic. If you are a vegan I recommend the potato pie it's really good. 🌱🌿
M. M.
We were in Edinburgh for just over 24 hours and we went twice. So that should tell you what you need to know.
T. B.
This is hands down the Best Pie in Edinburgh. The Scottish Steak is my favourite but honestly haven't had a bad bite from anything I have tried.
L.
Enjoyed a haggis pie today. It was delicious. Can't wait to try more.

D. A.
Delicious pies, ready made. We had three different pies, and our favorite was the traditional steak, delicious!
R. D.
Rude guy behind the counter. Needs to chill a wee bit. If you can ignore him the pies are half decent for the cheap price and worth a visit to get your fill of pies. 3 stars for the rude guy behind the counter
N. R. N.

Good sized portions at a cheap price with vegan options cleared marked. Worth a visit if you just want a snack.

Probably the cheapest eats near the Mile. We shared the Steak and Ale Pub Special pie for under 3gbp. Delicious and took the edge off our hunger.
M. H.
Excellent pies, good range including vegetarian and vegan.
J. M.
Simply delicious and an outstanding price.
Walked in ten minutes befors closing and received two extra pies on top!
S. M. H.
I've been to Edinburgh 2 times and both times I made sure to drop by this place. The pies are fresh and delicious and they spoil you with the choices.
Z. L. R.
Cheap and cheerful for a quick bite. Only faulty is the bottom crusts wwre too dry to cut with plastic cutlery. The fillings were nice.
G. W.
Friendly service, delicious pies. I had haggis, tatties and neeps one. 😁
L. N.
The cheese burgers are mouth wateringly good!!! The pizza rolls and the sausage rolls are epic also! The staff are also very nice and friendly :)
S. V.
It's very cheap store they preferred a lot of people for the fresh products, they had few sits for 10people, is located in the old down of Edinburgh.

L. M.
Quick, affordable, and great quality of food! Really love all the vegetarian options available too. Would definitely come again for a nibble!
B. G.
A small warm place with some really cheap and yummy food. A minor issue for me would've been that there was machine card but it's a minor thing compared to what you get!
A. B.
Fantastic Pies and super friendly staff!
Try the Steak and Scotch Pie! It‘s stunning good!
E. D.
Low priced, traditional pastry pies. I wasn't a fan if some of the fillings, but it's good for a quick, authentic bite.
D. M.
Used to be cash only but now you can use card if paying over £3.00, which you always will as you can't go and not have the cherry pastry as well as a pie....
T. H.
They make good pies. I tried the haggis and the macaroni pies, haggis was really nice while the macaroni was fine.
