Very cosy place, super delicious food. Cannot wait to go back for a brunch again. Steak Benedict with Shiracha hollandaise was amazing.

Nice wee place at the less popular part of Duke Street a wee bit further east than the big hitters like Tibo and Coia's. There's limited seating but it's rarely crowded. We decided to try it because the cakes looked so good - and they are! While we were in we saw a member of staff putting the finishing touches to a gorgeous fruit gateau. The savoury pastries are also good, but unfortunately there was a wee mix up with the labels so we didn't get to try the feta byrek we were interested in. The man serving noticed later, apologised and corrected the labels. The coffee was very good, but it seems to be tea they specialise in as there were a variety of loose-leaf teas on display.

Have ordered several Birthday Cakes over the past 3 years, everyone was beautiful. Beautifully finished and tastes exactly like a traditional victoria sponge, I am a Cook but not a baker, I was very tempted to pass it off as my own 😁

One of the only reasons to go to Dennistoun voluntarily! The Red Velvet cake there has ruined other Red Velvet cake for other places. The pie was amazing, the Hot Chocolate outstanding!

I've been frequenting Akara for a couple of months now and feel like it's time for a review. I stumbled across it, its small, bright and welcoming. The cakes are genuinely brilliant and I'm not a big cake lover. I've bought them for my parents (and dropped them off at their door, completely social distanced) who are older and picky and my mum loves the red velvet and the brownies. My dad raved about the vanilla cheesecake and my personal favourite is the orange and amaretto bunt cake. I don't mind paying a bit more for quality and these are arguably the best cakes on Duke street, I'd say the east end. For a savoury option the burekas and sausage rolls are tasty and full of flavour and I can't write a review without saying that the pastrami sandwich is brilliant, really delicious, flavour combo and the toasted sesame bread is a really good touch. Anyway, overall brilliant, I think I might be a regular now!

Just happened to be in the Dennistoun area and decided idea to look for a cafe for a cup of tea and cake and came across Akara's Bakery on Duke Street. Wow, so glad I did as thisvplavevisva little gem. Lovey pot of tea ( tea leafs not bag) and a delicious slice of moist carrot cake 😋 There was also a great selection of other cakes and sandwiches on display so I'll certainly be returning again to sample some more of their other offerings. Give it a try as you won't be disappointed.

Birthday cake ordered chocolate and salted caramel 8inch. Dark chocolate cake with salted caramel icing and chocolate ganache . 3 layers. Its massive .. although I was told 12 pieces am sure it will comfortably share 24. Easy to order and reasonably priced . For some reason it tatsed better on day 2 and day 3 . Also bought some mini bundtlettes - amazing flavours- rose and pistachio, orange and poppy seed , so soft and moist . You must try this place!

Lovely treats! I got a pistachio and white chocolate cake for my birthday and it was delicious. Today I got a peanut butter and condensed milk brownie and it was baked perfectly;fudgy, crackly top and decadent flavour.

This is a lovely new cafe/bakery on Duke Street. Came in for a bite to eat and a drink on a Sunday afternoon and was blown away. The breakfast roll I had: delicious. The flat white: delicious. The chocolate raspberry gateau: delicious. And when I paid the bill I thought they had accidently left something off. Fantastic, will be returning soon for round 2.

I've probably been every week since the start of lockdown and the word that best describes Akara is heavenly. The coffee is the best of Duke Street (coming from a coffee addict that has tried all other places), the cakes are next level amazing (the babka, the PB and choc brownies, the doughnuts.. all of them) and the service is always so lovely, you're always greeted with positivity, lots of smiles and pleasant conversation. 12/10 could not recommend any more. :) A slight improvement would be more vegan cake options and perhaps bigger takeaway cups as I love my coffee massive, but that is only down to personal preference.

Amazing cakes, coffees and service as always but yesterday I had a breakfast roll for the first time and oh my god the BREAD it was the most delicious roll I have ever eaten, and there are some seriously good bakeries around here. What was that roll? It was dark like a pretzel roll but with sesame seeds, I could eat 500000 of them. Bury me with those rolls
