Reviews of Cottonrake Bakery

Limited seatings. Takeaway is a good option.
very good variety of baked goods, there is a thing for everyone’s preference. I believe they start serving sandwiches only after 12.00pm.
The almond croissant was a joyful treat.
Enjoyed a white chocolate and raspberry tart and a lemon tart, both were a delight.
Their coffee is good too.
B. L.
Absolutely amazing items, I keep returning.
Lovely sweet cakes, perfect brownies (really good like crispy outside, moist and firm inside)
Have I mentioned scones and pastries? One of the many good reasons living around West end.
Reminder: Go early for pastries, go later for lunch items like BLT, oh forget it, just keep going!
J. K.
Visited many times. Sandwiches, brownies and small cakes are amazing. But you should be hurry as the bread was usually sold out very quickly.
I. F.
Lovely bakery with great coffee (•‿•)
I purchased a chocolate tart and an iced mocha for £6.30
The chocolate tart was delicious but did not go well with the iced mocha. It would have been better with Americano
M. T.
What a fantastic find! Super friendly & helpful staff, and the pastries (sweet & savoury) were delicious. The coffee was really good too.
N.
This place has THE most amazing carrot cake! Wish there was more of the cake left to show you in the pic but it was just tooo good. Really great coffee too and lots of baked goods. You will not be disappointed!
C. B.
Delightful cakes and treats, ranging from £1.50 to £2.60 each and well worth the price. The white chocolate tart is fantastic.
M. A.
Excellent bakery. Probably the best croissants I’ve had in the UK. The tomato and cheese quiche and almond croissants were exceptional as well. Only thing is there are limited seating so best to arrive early if you are wanting to sit in.
U. M. G.
Been here for a couple of times. Coffee is pretty good. I'm mainly into their focaccias, there's usually a huge queue outside but the place truly deserves it. I didn't quite enjoy the aubergine focaccia, so I hope to get back soon, try something new and change my review. Staff members are pretty nice and welcoming. Not much space inside but there are some tables outside.
a. c.
Great artisan sandwiches and one of the best deserts in Scotland for me. Not too sweet, as most of the bakeries produce, and great taste. Visit it every time I'm in Glasgow
B. L.
It's beginning to look a lot like Xmas.. always good
Charlie Bucket would be happy with the Hot Chocolate. If you know what I mean
Y. W.
The carrot cake is the best I have ever had.
M. B.
Always coming in here for the filled sandwiches/baguettes. They’re really, really good. Only complaint I have is that they seem to sell out quite early, so make sure to get there before 2pm or earlier to avoid being disappointed.
G. S. E. F.
Friendly customer service, great cakes and treats. Midweek pick me up sorted. Thank you!
S. K.
Lovely food and even lovelier people! We came in just before close and were given extra baguettes! Best I’ve ever had.
S. C.
Awesome little bakery. Delicious 😋
M. S.
First really good bakery I found during my two weeks stay in Scotland. Not saying there aren‘t others but this one is great
M. S.
I went this morning and l had a really good costumer service and very good croissant .
C. A. M.
Truly auwsome chocolate tart with devine crisp pastry not to sweet just perfect. Service was also informative and friendly. I love the rustic look. Noticed they use amazing flour from @shipton mills
J. D.
One of the best bakeries in Glasgow. Delicious pastries and beautiful tarts and rolls. I recommend the fresh baked bread as well.
G.
Imagine going to a boutique, everything is so neat, classy, nice.. unique and particular. You are actually in a bakery! And it is oh so lovely! The sausage rolls are enormous, the various focaccia have so many things inside, the cakes taste insane and let's not forget the main reason you went in there for, yes you totally forgot but it was actually to buy a loaf of bread! I went with the sourdough and 2 days later, finishing up the remains, it still tastes fresh. Yes to all the carbs! Remember to wear your mask inside and to be patient, you might need to queue before being able to get in!
R. T.
This is a very good bakery which i go to a lot and would universally recommend it to people. Recommendations - the sandwiches but not the foccacia, the pear tart, the carrot cake. My only critique is that the baguette sandwiches bread is sometimes too hard which can make it slightly difficult to eat.
G. B.
Great cakes and coffee. You can’t walk without noticing the great coffee aroma.
L. B.
A five star review and a big thank you for a very delicious seasonal quiche and a raspberry frangipani tart made to order to feed a party of 10 for my wife’s 60th birthday. Both went down a storm!
A. E.
Unbelievably good cakes, pastries and coffee.
N.
Food was delicious and staff were informative and friendly. They also have gluten free!
Cottonrake bakery also has a small seating area indoors and out
P.
Beautiful little find.
Pastries where unbelievable! Tasty, fresh and a great atmosphere
K.
Consistent high quality, reliable, great bakery - go to spot when I need something
A. S.
Fantastic bakery! Enjoyed our stop off here and would defo recco
M. R.
Pastries are amazing and chai latte is a lovely treat!
N. A. F.
Love this cafe
Best latte
And try the chocolate brownies so yummy
Staff are so niceee too
F. G.
Really tasty pastries and bakes, and the person who served me was lovely. If anyone asked me for a lunch recommendation this is where I’d send them. Only think I would say is there isn’t much indoor seating, your best off taking your croissant to go
L. T.
Absolutely amazing cakes and coffee, staff are always friendly and welcoming. Highly recommended.
L. J. W.
Good location, good atmosphere - only had a coffee (Flat white) which was reasonable. Will have to go back to sample the baked goods which looked very tempting!
N. M.
nice food but 20 minute wait for takeaway because of only one person with one till serving customers
I. L.
Wow! First place we stop to get a snack turns out to be the best bakery in the whole of Scotland!! The food is just delicious...we're coming back later!
S.
I feel qualified to write a review for this place given that I often consume 1 cake a week from here, sometimes more and I like to change it up. Good news is they're all excellent. The gluten-free brownie, pear tart, carrot cake, white chocolate tart, cinnamon bun, lemon meringue tart...all uniformly beautiful....all taste superb. And for all the millions and billions of their cakes I've consumed not one has been a bum. Not one bum note in this sea of confectionary delights. The sourdough and focaccia similarly taste like that they've fallen from heaven. 10/10 best bakery in Glasgow.
A. A.
I had a good breakfast here, good service delivery from the staffs also
f. a.
Very delicious croissants, especially the almond 😋
T. D. C.
Without doubt THE best pastries in Glasgow, maybe Scotland. Almond croissants and pain au chocolate is a must try!
H. C.
Friendly welcoming staff. Ideal location for people watching. Located at a corner you can watch as people bussle about their urgent tasks. While you sit and sip a very refreshing cup of coffee.
C. F.
By far my favourite bakery in the West End! Really nice cakes and home made bread. Missed you when you were closed and so glad it’s reopen now!
Good sandwiches at lunch time as well, simple and with quality ingredients.
L. C.
Pleasant coffee and cake stop!
J. G.
Was really looking forward to visiting Cotton Rake and finally got round to it. I was a little disappointed in some of the cakes, I felt they were a bit bland. Not all, the lemon meringue tart was delicious. I am not put off as if like to try their bread and pastries still.
I'll be back when things are a little less busy.
Friendly staff and couldn't fault the presentation.
A. P.
Favourite bakery in Glasgow. Amazing bread - the sourdough is out of this world and the pastries and cakes are phenomenal. The sit-in space is limited so it's luck of the draw whether you get a seat but it's worth the risk. Get a hot chocolate, a simple (but delicious) cake and watch the world go by through the windows.
A. M.
The best place for pastries and cakes in Glasgow😍 Go for the gluten free brownie, absolutely delicious!
R. C.
Fantastic bakery with an excellent selection of baked goods. The pain aux raisins was flakey, buttery, and beautiful. Their scones were superb
T. W.
Best coffee and bakery/tart shop in Glasgow - wonderful sausage rolls and sandwiches - don’t go anywhere else!!!!!
E. S.
Absolutely fabulous bakery and the queues tell tou everything you need to know about how good it is. Best sourdough in Glasgow. Lovely friendly staff and great cakes!
A. M.
Totally love this place. The breads alone are incredible, they make the best rye bread I've had and i've not found a better baguette in the UK. Cakes and pastries are every bit as good! To top it all off they make good coffee! Wish all bakeries in Scotland were like this.
b.
Some of the best cakes and baked goods in the area. I would literally sell my soul for an everlasting supply of their heavenly white chocolate tart.
L. L.
Sometimes queues for food can be over-rated - not here. We ate every last crumb! Beautiful baked goods and lovely service too!
W.
Great coffee, pastries and you've just got to try the sausage rolls! Nice atmosphere. Very popular place and can get crowded but attracts a friendly clientele who are always ready to squeeze over to give you room to sit
A. R. D.
That coffee! Flat white (oat milk). Really, really, really nice. That pastry too! I can recommend this place without reserve.
In the middle of the pouring rain, cosy warm, watching the water on the panes and the people hurry by - it's a real treat. Especially if you bite into the amazing and decadent almond croissant. Try it!
M. M.
Lovely fresh backery a bit expensive but worth it nice coffee
J.
Absolutely delicious Ayrshire ham and Gruyère cheese croissant, and black pudding sausage rolls.
S. D.
Both sandwiches and cakes here were excellent. It is very tiny inside so we opted for takeaway. Not cheap but every morsel was good especially dark chocolate tart and carrot cake. Very popular so you need to go early or they do sell out of lots of stuff.
A. M.
Fantastic little bakery which also serves good coffee. Busy so you might not always get a seat.
A. M.
This is a wonderfully talented local bakery that provides fantastically tastey treats with good and friendly staff. Just the kind of place you might be looking for but you have to be quick and incidentally and unfortunately they never do macaroni pies.
R. D.
Worth the queues! Savoury or sweet you can’t go wrong with a trip to cottonrake!
K. T.
A must for Glasgow resident or visitor. Try the sourdough or rye and then treat yourself to the pear tart, no treacle tart, no brownie...wait no try the meringue. Too many treats.
r. m.
Top,macchiato was delish, had the maplenutty cake,it was as promised
Awesome..must search place
l. s.
Where do I start? The pastry? It s the highest level I found in Glasgow. To die for!! Believe me !! The coffe is good .definitely I recomend this place
Let's no forget about the bread: real true, properly made bread reminds me of home Italy. It smells right it s taste right it's right. What a place. I love it I try To go every day.
Thank you for your hard work !!
N. B.
Very beautiful place. I got there early on Saturday morning and the staff was very friendly and the place quiet. Not expensive for the size of the baked goods and they were absolutely delicious! Highly recommend.
s.
For the Frenchie that I am, this place and beefcake are the only two places in Glasgow who know how to make a great croissant. Love it!!
M. S.
Best tartlettes and cookies in Glasgow imho. Teency tiny so you may be out of luck if you plan to sit in. Great coffee also available and their bread is suitably of good hipster quality (lovely almost crumpety sour dough with a seriously thick crust). Not to be missed if you are in the area.
M. H.
Favourite place to come on a Friday for some treats for the family. Lovely staff, fantastic tasty cakes/pastries and although a bit pricey it’s worth it for the quality of the product.
L. S.
The queue says it all ! Everything is to die for , but my fav is the walnut choc cookie!! Just wonderful!
D.
The white chocolate tart was excellent. I'll definitely be back to try more of the pastries soon.
T. M.
Was delicious and fairly priced! Was at the Cottonrake Bakery and was really pleased with the cakes, rolls and coffees i received. Was a bit more expensive than other Bakeries, but wasn't too dear and was well worth every penny!
P. A.
Probably the best cakes in the west end! Certainly the best almond croissants.
Y. S.
A cute little bakehouse with extremely delicious baked goods, try the treacle tart and their famous sausage rolls. You can watch them freshly bake behind the counter and they always run out of baked goods everyday. A must try if visiting Glasgow!
P. K.
One of our favourite West End bakeries. Have never been disappointed. The hard part is making a choice from all the yummy options!
e. o.
Love this place as a take away. It is a shame, because the coffee is very good, but the lack of the toilet in the place serving diuretic beverage is something i can't understand. No public toilet within a mile.
A. H.
The lengthy queue on a copy day was a good sign of the quality on offer. Our pastries and brownies were as good as ever from Cottonrake. Recommended.
L. M.
Selections of new bakes and new ideas beautifully presented with fresh ingredients. Mozzarella baguettes, aromatic coffee, leek and cheese tartlets were all making Cottonrake smell great the day I stopped by. I'd highly recommend the Stornoway black pudding and herb roll, it's easily the nicest roll I've had in the UK and makes a delicious filler for such humble food.
W.
Pecan tart & white chocolate tart are really worth trying! Tried them multiple times, the same taste in every time 👍🏻
S. L.
Purchased the MOST delicious individual quiche here... also an individual lemon meringue pie with a fabulously delicious lemony zest...Will definitely be back...
R. A.
Good coffee, exelent pastry and sandwiches of all kinds in in-house made bread.
The place is small but the food is good and the architecture in that area of Glasgow is exquisite.
J. R.
Great bread but having to queue for over 30mins to get it left a sour dough taste in my mouth.
J. W.
Chicken noodle soup was amazing 🤩
B. N.
Clean good kitchen, courteous staff and good cooked food. Very good prices.
M. L.
I had scones and pain au chocolat and both were really good. Good job!
Plus their social and community values are just the best!
N. M.
Great place with incredible bread! Have a seat and a sandwich at the window, had an excellent experience repeatedly bumping elbows with the gent next to me. Can understand why it's always full!
A. P.
Fresh baking. Really good sandwiches but limited choice. They only have five different fillings and depending on the time you may only have two to chose between.
M. M.
Really disappointed with my last purchase. Ham hock salad. Bread as delicious as always, but the filling was woeful. Small portion of ham hock, two lettuce leaves and a blob of mayonnaise. Not impressed.
A. M.
Really nice sourdough bread. The lady serving us had a bit of an attitude though. Doesn’t take much to smile and be pleasant.
L. D.
High quality tasty food and very nice coffee great for you daily rations or a quick pot stop.
M. H.
Lovely bread but person that served me could do with cheering up. After queuing for 10 minutes I'd like to be greeted with someone a bit more cheerful thanks.
R. T.
Very recommendable place to grab a coffe with some tasty pastries.
A. N.
Best bakery in Glasgow. Consistently excellent bakes and coffee. Small place but can usually wait around for a table if needed.
L. P.
Amazing bakery with great food. Sausage rolls are fantastic as are pastries. Try to go whenever I get the chance.
F. d.
Lovely experience at Cottonrake Bakery! The staff are friendly and helpful as always, and the coffees, pastries.. the lot was amazing! Will be back soon.
I. O.
Small cosy cute and food plus coffee is excellent! A little pricey but oh so good!
m. s.
It has got to be the best bakery in town. Try the custard tarts... Amazing. I come in almost every day since I moved to Kelvin bridge
N. S.
Okay, so the queues are outrageous. But then so are the fresh pain au chocolat, macarons and pastries at the end of them. Worth the wait, but being a jacket.
N. K.
Great place for your morning coffee. There are plenty choices of pastries here
S. J.
Absolutely delicious stuff. Friendly customer service, great cakes! Thank you!
P. M.
Popped in with the kids. Had fantastic sandwiches, loads of fresh bake breads and pastries. Highly recommended
D. S.
Bravo! The bread is amazing, the cakes are even better. The perfect fusion between a bakery and patisserie.
S. M.
Excellent cakes and pastries served by pleasant helpful staff. We'll worth queuing for.
P.
Excellent coffee and baked goods. Always busy but on the small side so often crowded unless you are taking away
C. N.
I absolutely love their croissant and coffee. My daily morning starter
K. K.
Their freshly baked croissants and plain au chocolatare amazing
M. P.
Pricey but I guess worth it. Lemon meringue tart is... Heavenly. One star down because of prices. Otherwise, top bakery.
S.
Top rate food. Prices are high but are worth it.
M. A.
Fantastic sandwich and sausage roll, all fresh and well made.
E. M.
Probably the best bakery in Glasgow, with a broad range of mouth watering sweet and salty food/pastries
V. D.
The best hot chocolate I’ve had in the UK. Dark, thick & not too sweet
P. S.
Great sandwiches, amazing helpful Staff, great coffee, it's a bit bitter sometimes, but very well brewed. Pooches welcomed!
A. B.
There are just a few times in life that you have that magic coming together, a perfect moment. Try a raspberry frangipane with your cup of tea, so unbelievable good.
A. J.
Very nice place with really good food! The staff are helpful and nice to talk to. Only downside would be the space constraints. Other than that, very nice place!
R. “. R.
Famous for the Donut Repair- the best pastries you'll get before you get to Byres road and then maybe still the best.
G. M.
Great quality and choice, slightly overpriced in comparison with other places offering a similar quality of product.
R. P.
I had a mocha here, it was unusual but quite nice. The pastries are excellent!!
c. a.
Was walking past this place the other day when i was for a walk and grabbing lunch for work. Great little place with good selection. Nice coffee too
R. N.
nice selection of cakes - few tables to sit down - usually very busy - servive is ok - give it a try you might like it.
L. P.
Great little local bakery making incredible breads and pastries. There are a few seats to sit in or they offer takeaway. Their breads are always delicious and I would highly recommend their sausage rolls or almond croissants. Everyday they have a selection of their usuals or something new to try.
The staff are also so friendly and helpful.
G. T.
Both Coffee and bakery are very nice.
