Reviews of Comptoir Gourmand Bermondsey
Q. X. T.
Amazing coffee and baked goods! Especially love the brownies!
S. C.
A proper French bakery oughta be one of the best in all of London. The cinnamon roll is excellent, buttery, flaky, with just enough sugar. Simple sandwiches are just like in Paris. Sometimes a queue but well worth the wait.
As the French would say, c'est magnifique.
K. S.
Quite cosy place at Maltby Street Market. The staff members are friendly, the coffee are nice
S. k.
My fave go to for french pastries, the pistachio buns are divine, the croissants have soft buttery layers and the danishes have the right amount of crunch to fruit ratio. Walkable from London Br, great to pop in for an early morning coffee at 7.30am, some seating outside
M. C.
Lovely staff - tasty food. I popped in on my way home to console myself with pastries after I missed a flight due to broken rail while on way to airport on the Stansted Express. The person behind the counter saw my case and asked where I was going. When I told her the story she gave me a free chocolate brownie to cheer me up. What fantastic customer service. It can be a bit pricey here - but perhaps not for the location and worth it for a treat.
M. C.
The best almond croissant in London! Bit pricey at £2.70 for one, but so worth every penny! Beautiful pastry (not too hard and dry and not too soggy) with just amount of almond filling. Highly recommend. Will be back to try many more things here!
T. B.
Beautiful pastries, was really hard to make a decision! Here is the cinnamon bun (so sticky and moorish), and the pistachio beignet. We also tried the cookie which was massive and equally delicious!
D. O.
The best hot chocolate in London!!! They have tasty pastries & excellent service! Would highly recommend!
A. R.
Parisian bakery in the heart of London. I stumbled upon this cafe whilst staying with a friend in the area. Amazing pastries, lovely staff and some of the best coffee I have had in Europe.
A. V.
Excellent range of on-site cooked bakery products with friendly staff. Indoor seating with hot and cold drinks available and wifi too.
C. H.
Whilst I only had coffee, the bakery items and sandwiches that were being prepared looked delicious! The coffee was a great and full of flavour. The staff were very friendly and even at a busy time I wasn't waiting long before being served my drink. Seating is available both indoor and outdoor but is limited.
D. T.
Delicious sandwiches, pastries and great coffee. Friendly and smily staff too :)
P. L.
Bitter choc mocha is a winner! Huge selection of all sorts of cakes, pastries and sandwiches - you need to try by yourself! Be prepared to queue 😄😎
D. G.
A nice little bakery with French delicacies.
The place is pretty small and can get really packed in the evening and service quite slow but takeaway is always an option.
Their pastries are pretty tasty but slightly expensive.
The staff are super friendly and very helpful.
Y.
Picked up a Too Good to Go order yesterday as a way to check the place out. Wow--the woman who helped me was friendly, and she gave me so much delicious stuff! Having greedily devoured the pastries, I can definitely say that it's worth visiting. Tried out a lot of things, but I'm now curious to try out their other offerings since everything I had was excellent!
L. M.
Today I bought 2 BIG loafs of sourdough!
(One to slice & freeze and the other one to use straight away with homemade olives tapenade and hummus).
Thanks guys for your 5 days/week smiles while being on lockdown 🙏🏼
Stay all safe!
K. B.
FABULOUS croissants and above average coffee. The staff here are all lovely. Be prepared to wait in line in the mornings, but I promise it is worth it. Wish they had some tables out front to sit and watch the world go by.
D. J.
Simply one of the best eating experience ever.
First the quality of the menu albeit simple is outstanding. Both for foodstuff and drinks, from their savoury chous, the gougeres to their meat and desserts. The wine menu is diverse and of quality. And what is absolutely remarkable are the prices. In an area renowned for bloated price tags and designer look over substance (yes still talking about food here) the prices are nothing short of miraculous.
Then, there's the staff. Charlie was simply perfect, his passion for his place of work was evident and his earnestness and kindness made this one of the most pleasant meal I can recall. Ever. Full stop.
L. G.
Best hot chocolate ever! Wow! Plus delicious proper butter croissant!
P. d. v.
Coffee and cakes are delicious. Cakes are pricey but soooo worth it!
Y. C.
All in average. Nice pastry, just not special enough since there are so many similar quality bakery in London.
M. S.
Absolutely love this place. Beautifully produced food and drinks. Perfect for a late evening bite with lashings of wine and cheese. Then desserts. Enjoy!!
E. R.
We stayed 4 days in London and came here 4 times!! 😍 We really love the croissants 🥐 the coffee, and the egg tart like cake that i couldn't catch the name 🤣 the servers are very friendly and fast.
C. M.
This is the best croissant in London. Please feel free to prove me wrong. Good coffee as well, a favourite of the neighbourhood.
A. L.
Favourite breakfast on Saturdays! Love getting a coffee and a Pain au Chocolat to start my days.
S. N.
Mouthwatering pastries - tried almost everything but definitely the favorite is almond croissant. If you like a bit of savoury, their ham and cheese croissant is good as well.
J. R.
The best pastries in town!!!!⭐ the range is amazing too!
S. M.
The staff was so humble n kind. It was a friend’s birthday and he was very sweet to take our pics, play the birthday song and offer treats from his end.
Was not that hungry to just ordered a latte and some cheese dough balls and a caramel chocolate pastry. Everything was rich n fresh in flavour.
Would definitely recommend and pretty affordable too!
J. G.
Beautiful display of patisserie and very tasty too :)
N. H.
Bermondsey's best approximation of a French boulangerie-patisserie hits almost all of the right notes. I like their execution of the classics: croissants, pain au chocolats, and millefeuilles. Their brownies are solid. Their cookies need a bit of work, being too large, flat, and having the wrong flavor profile in balancing butter, sugar, and chocolate. The bread is competently done. And their savoury croissants are a beloved quick lunch option. Staff is friendly, helpful, and efficient.
S. L.
Let's just say that there's a reason that there's regularly a queue down the street! Top notch delicious sweet and savory pastries. Definitely try one of their pistachio brioche donuts!
B. C.
A nice addition to Bermondsey street. The coffee is good, but missing that special something that some of the other local shops provide. Their pastries are also pretty nice. In the mornings they can get pretty busy and can be a bit slow about clearing a long line.
In the evenings they do wine and cheese - a really nice experience, and if I were rating just that, I'd go with 4 or 5 stars.
C. G.
By far my favourite French pâtisserie in all of London with their perfect cinnamon twist that combines the crunchy texture of the exterior pastry sheets to the gooey, cinnamon sweet interior. I also highly recommend the apricot twist and the brownies. Check this out— you won’t be disappointed! Staff are also always a pleasure.
M. M.
Very good pastries, coffee and really nice staff; we have had a yummy yummy breakfast. I haven’t bough the bread yet but looks very good too. Strongly recommended if you’re in the area. I’ll definitely go back.
C. M.
CG was alreadya favourite venue. So delighted with how they have adapted to lockdown and is now a required stop / treat after our runs (lockdown health project!) Amazing drinks and foods. Now moving into retail packaged items (coffee, yeast etc). Great service. Friendly staff working in challenging environment.
P. M.
Went for the pastries, will go back for the coffee!
Small place, lots of pastry options first thing and a lovely coffee too. Staff were friendly and the atmosphere very chilled when we dropped in on a Tuesday morning
N. M.
Pastry doesn't get better than this. Lovely croissants and other French pastries and candy. You can also get soups and sandwiches. And the staff is just lovely. There is a queue on weekends but worth the wait.
K. J.
This place is fantastic, we met the manager there and she was the most helpful and friendly person we ran into in London. The treats are no joke, I recommend the chocolate caramel tart, raspberry doughnut, or berry pasty. You can't go wrong with anything!
C. C.
They have the best croissants- I find myself going back there regularly!
J.
I bought bread here during lockdown. The bread was tasty, but at £6 a loaf, it's overpriced. We normally buy our bread from Maltby St Market and the bread I bought here was almost identical (not sure if it comes from the same bakery) - there it costs £3. They said it was a "large" loaf, but it's exactly the same size you can buy at Maltby St. There are also tons of other places local where max I've been charged is £3.50. Overpriced items are unjustified
n. f.
Delicious sandwiches,lovely lady
S. B.
Simply the best French bakery in town...in my view. Genuine proper buttery pastries. Yum!
Z. M.
Outstanding!! Probably the best pastries in the area, and the hot chocolate was next level. Standing Room Only but worth it! What heaven smells and feels like.
j. g.
Pastries and cakes are the best and very reasonably portioned, priced
M. C.
Nice cafe at the end of Maltby market. Comfy place to relax from the busy market lane. Timber and tiled interior isn’t for everyone but it more than makes up for it through its Greta tasting coffee and pastries.
S. T.
Not the cheapest place in the world, but I had the best (and biggest!) white chocolate cookie I've ever had. I'm still thinking about it days later, and it's a good job I don't live close to them or I would eat nothing else.
M. S.
This is a very small cafe with limited seating and it's usually very busy at lunchtimes but worth queuing. I got the rustic brie baugette and also the spinach and cheese croissant both of which are great. I wouldn't recommend the pastel de nata as the pastry was quite poor, on the other hand the pistachio brionut is a delight!
J. J.
ham and cheese croissants are amazing, coffee delicious too. Recommend if you’re in the area. Not much space inside. More of a takeaway place.
L. T.
Food and coffee is alright, but every time I’ve been there, the staff are so rude or short with you. When there are so many other patisseries and coffee shops on Bermondsey street who are super happy to serve you, it makes you question why you’d go to Comptoir
G. F.
Amazing little bakery with incredible pastries, very good sandwiches and bread.
They also do coffee and during Xmas period they are opened in the evening for tartiflette, cheese and wine. Recommended!
S. B.
Wide range of fresh pastries, sandwiches, rolls, baguettes, drinks and coffees
I. S.
One of the nicest breakfast places/bakeries in Bermondsey. Amazing croissants, hot chocolate and eclairs, the staff is so kind and friendly. Totally worth it to pay it a visit.
E.
Great little gem with nice selection of pastries and savoury snacks.. friendly staff and nice cosy interiors. Low prices for the quality you get.. plus it gives you that nice feeling of friendliness.. recommended!
l. ..
Love it, everything is fresh and delicious. The only thing I would prefer if the space inside was bigger but I understand this place is more "buy and take away". 4.5 stars;)
R. P.
The place I love most in London. Sweet and salty stuff are great! And the staff is always so kind! Even if they're iper busy, there is always time for a smile! Gooooood job!
M. R.
We had 48 hours in London and we went here 4 times. We almost squeezed in a fifth for a glass on wine in the evening. The pastries, bread, and coffee were all excellent.
N. M.
French coffee shop, everything you expect - nice croissants & pain au chocolat, croque monseuir, etc
A. M.
Fab place with an amazing quality - price ratio!
R. R.
Good sourdough bread. They stock Mons cheese as well and wine so you can buy all your essentials. Du pain, du vin, du boursin
W. A.
Lovely staff and amazing pastries, sandwiches, lasagna, cookies and coffee . I’ve never had something here that wasn’t delicious.
M. W.
There is no other cafe I want go back to more than this place. The latte and pastry were awesome! Great job guys.
F. C.
I absolutely love this place. Small, cozy, super friendly staff and ... best pastry selection in London - in that area at least.:-)
a. v. e.
Our 'to go to' place for coffee, bread and delicious pastries. Super friendly service! They also serve wine, cheese and charcuterie from 5pm onwards.
M. S.
Great little place with good quality French pastries, savouries, coffee and more importantly still had a selection of items available mid afternoon after I missed lunch!
