Reviews of Gail's Bakery Maida Vale
F. C. D.
My local one! Relatively new. And you can come across new staff every now and then. Though I prefer this branch over its sister branch in St Johns Wood which has exhausted staff. You can read 'GIVE ME A BREAK' sign all over their faces. Coming back to my local one. The ladies behind the coffee machine are made of steel. THEY DELIVER YOUR cup of COFFEE without mistake. What I am not used to is their baking schedule. Some crucial items are not there when you need it.

It is an amazing place, the bakery is unbelievable and the attention is very good.
I don't know how to avoid buying something every day.
R. D.
Very good service, I like the salmon bagels.
A. K.
Too slow - 10 min wait for a coffee take away, that’s way too much you need more barista
S. M.
Gails management team,
Bring back the toaster please. Nothing ruins customer day more than cold toasties with hard cheese :(
M. Z.
Shocked to see one of Gail’s barista’s not wearing a mask at all. This is the second time I’ve seen this guy and has stopped me from going in. Otherwise love the food and coffee and would give it 5 stars. Please make sure all of your employees wear masks!!
E. s.
Tasty pastries and nice coffee, but a touch slow on the surface and quite pricey

Amazing coffee ☕
And the best olive bread in London so far.
Well done guys,thank you 😁☕

So I've got mixed feelings about Gail's as a bakery. I can't really fault any of their products: good coffee, lovely cakes, great sourdough bread. But (and I know it's taken over the whole world) I'd kind of like a bakery that has a couple of not-sourdough options. Am I crazy? I like sourdough, but don't want EVERY bread to be sourdough. Perhaps I'm flagging from the lockdown, but it feels like any non-sourdough options in Gail's have just faded away entirely in the last year or two. Maybe I'm just a luddite for wishing for an occasional simple white or brown cob..
P. L.
just love their cinnamon rolls and banana cake, needless to mention their quiches and other googies...

Good collection of breads and salads. They could improve in coffee if the barista puts in a little more effort. The quality is good, but the preparation needs improvement as extra hot coffee request still typically gets you luke warm coffee.

High quality and prices to match but I guess in maida vale n one cares about that

Great treats and coffees. The Christmas buns (seasonal) are very addicting. The space is very tight so if you want to eat in best to go at a quiet time. Please don’t whinge about there being prams and babies. Parents need coffee too and if you are by yourself you can’t really leave them outside can you? It’s no one’s fault the space is small.

Really lovely place to grab a coffee. Maida Vale has such a lovely vibe about the place. This is taken facing away the Gail's. To the left is Maida Vale tube station. Further down this road you can see in the picture is Elgin Avenue, heading towards Notting Hill area. To the right is Paddington Green.

Great cup of coffee ☕ today served with a smile.

I love Gail's and was so exited that we now have one in Maida Vale. I have stopped by a few times already and while all of the lovely cakes are absolutely delicious and just plain beautiful to look at, the staff is extremely inexperienced in handling them. Twice already when I came to buy about 10-15 items such as pistachio/lemon/rose cake, honey cake, chocolate cake etc. either for my guests or as a present for my friends the staff ladies that were packing them did it in a very haphazard manner piling one on top of the other and I twice I had to ask them to lay them out in a box nicely. They are so beautifully decorated, so delicate and not exactly cheap. I ended up having to present my Gail's cakes crumpled and semi smashed last time because they did damage them on the first go while piling up but then said that it was ok and they laid them out nicely. Very disappointing, especially since this is a repeat lack of care for appropriate presentation and packing when selling Gail's products. Staff should really be better trained. If you go to Paul and buy even a couple of cakes they take great care to ensure they are packaged nicely and not damaged. I expected the same from Gail's. The standard and quality of Gail's products is so high, but a big let down on service for me. Hope it gets better.

Our favourite place to go for coffee. Their sourdough is lovely and their sausage rolls are out of this world! Well worth a try if you are in the Maida Vale area.

So excited to have an upmarket place near home. The only downside is the layout. You are practically walking into people when you enter the premises. Far too crowded so I never stay there, only get a takeaway which is a shame as I would love to sit there and soak up the atmosphere but it's too noisy and crowded. If I want to stay in Gail's, I usually venture down to Gail's in Queens Park. Much more spacious and calmer :)

Need a baguette, sweet or the kick starter coffee before of after a commute on the TFL? - sorted. This Gails is just across the Maida Vale tube station which makes it very convenient. It has all the great Gails products and also adequate seating space.
M. S.
Its decent, however, I wouldn't rate it 5 stars, Its just convenient. However, very tight space. Food and drink standards are normal for Gails and consistent. Its just the really tight space. Toilets are available and downstairs, so not the best for wheelchairs users. Toilets are usually clean. Its not a bad shout to go to Gails to maybe pick up a coffee and sit outside on a nice day out

Always loved Gail's but do so even more now. This evening their employee contacted the North Paddington food bank to donate the bread at the end of the day to make sure there was not wastage. Really appreciate companies trying to do right in this difficult time - thank you!

Perfect coffee and fresh almond croissant
A. K.
I'm very pleased with their sourdough breads!
Great job during Covid as well - despite high traffic, you've kept hygiene standards high and continue to serve the community well. Thank you
D.
Lovely bakery, with delicious food. Main problem is that it's too small and when there's 5 pushchairs hitting you from every angle it can get incredibly annoying. Need to have more of a organised rule of how many prams can come in at a time so other customers have a chance to even walk into the queue.
E. S.
The Waiting Line system is terrible!
I get cut off by people suddenly jumping forward of the line as they have no idea where the waiting line starts. Should put one or two pole as a sign of a line so people know where to start.
Aside from that, the food and coffee taste how Gail's make them... Delicious!
I. D.
Very slow service. Was waiting 10min for the coffee although was first one in the queue, however they've decided to serve person who arrived after me first. Been few times now and it seems that sometimes there are so many staff members that service should be much faster and organised.
C. M.
Excellent Coffee and Salmon Avocado thingy!

Amazing place and the food is so good. The staff is very friendly, especially the manager, she's been so kind and walked us through the various foods available. Will definitely come back
A. B.
Friendly efficient service. Fabulous food. Great coffee. Really glad to see they’ve opened in Maida Vale - we really needed a bakery & cafe like this one! 5*

Food and coffee were great, the menu choice wasn't vast, it was difficult to read the menu once inside as the shop is narrow and it was busy.
Some menus on the table would have made my visit more enjoyable and relaxed.
M. J.
Well presented store, organised system to ensure distancing and great quality products served by friendly people
M. L.
Place to spoil yourself on confectionary and unusual savory treats. Large range washed down with Smooth coffee delights.
j. n.
Friendly staff. Quality bread. Good coffee. A treat to visit during lockdown.
J. S.
Cakes anad pastries are awesome, service is friendly though inexperienced, the one star missing is for how super busy this place is, tho not Gail's fault.
K.
Beautiful quaint bakery, loved the soup of the day (chickpea lentil) and their sourdough bread!
S. P.
My favourite coffee&cake place
R. M.
Very good bakery. Good coffee.... there's a lot to like in the new place
P. M.
My favourite cappuccino is there but few seats are outside
A. K.
Can't complain. Good food. Good service. Normal price.
K. D.
Service is really slow. It is about a ten minute wait for a coffee. Items appear to be more expensive than other branches.
