Reviews of GAIL's Bakery Neo Bankside
A. B.
Great place to eat and chill or work, but I’m giving 3 stars just because of the music. Absolutely, terrible, I feel like living in the 90’s. Even 2 couples were sitting near us also commented on it. I am pretty often here and the last 3 days, it was same playlist on the repeat. As couples near by me said, you would never expect that such an expensive coffee shop would play such a terrible music. I would rather expect some chill, lounge music. I really hope that the management will find soon the solution and we would enjoy the full package of this great coffee ☕️ shop with the brilliant staff. Many thanks in advance and see you soon! :)
B. S.
We popped in here to pick up a tasty treat whilst walking to the tube from the Tate - served fast and with a smile. Cant really comment on drinks or anything because we didn't have any - but its Gails innit - its probably going to be cest bon

Edit: After a couple of extra visits I dropped my score. The consistency and satisfactory service is not always there. Twice I received very overcooked solid pale yellow yolks in 'soft' baked eggs, was also charged twice for an item and had to correct that. Their almond chocolate croissants are consistently great though! I would probably just recommend visiting another branch.
Great like every Gail's! This shop seems more geared towards sitting in for coffee and pastries rather than typical mainly bakery/ patisserie Gail's. But it is of no difference to me. The dark sourdough bread I got was still amazing as always and definitely fresh with crispy crust and fluffy inside. From pastries for first timers I would recommend almond chocolate croissant and a showstopper that is a Belgian chocolate and cherry bun. Its crumbly flaky perfection that is typically gone by midday , cause its so good! I tried a couple of coffees there , nothing to write home about , but paired with the pastry selection it will do. When eating in I also tried the two varieties of baked eggs and I would definitely get the lebneh, tomato and red pepper ones again. Runny yolks, crispy, cheesy top and flaky salt. Service was cheery and helpful in making choices too, keep in mind you might have to wait a bit to be served on weekends and lunchtimes, but nothing excessive.

Popular, high quality and cute cafe and light lunch spot. They always meet expectations, and this particular location is no different. Set in the leafy Holland Street it’s a particular nice venue. They do a hot made to order menu and then a counter of sandwiches and sweet goods. Teas are also very good.

I have not been much outside since the last year due to contracting Covid just before Christmas and now experiencing almost all long-Covid symptoms without seeing an end to them, but the customer service I received at Gail’s this morning left me simply speechless and truly in tears. THANK YOU! Thank you for the kindest, the most empathic and the most human approach I have ever had. I wish I asked the young lady’s name who truly made my day and the week if not the entire month to come. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Love you, Gail’s, for having such people in your team. ❤️
R. B.
I like this location of Gail’s. It has a cosy feel.
Their baked goods options are versatile but the consistency is not great, last time I was there the crustless pie was way too salty and the coffee wasn’t great. I hope they enhance their quality control.
Nonetheless, it’s a good place for a nice brunch.
S. G.
I like their salad pots and fresh sandwiches for lunch. Service is friendly and quick. Quite a few tables outdoors overlooking Tate Modern museum. It didn't have a busy feel, rather peaceful. I'd definitely return.
N. N.
Always come here for breakfast, it’s delicious and they so nice to me! Thanks
T. M.
Actually pretty cool cafe. Especially for a place so close to a tourist area. Food was great.
N. N.
Always come here for breakfast, it’s delicious and they so nice to me! Thanks
S. R.
Absolutely love this place. From fabulous bread, pastries, breakfast, coffee to great lunch, the place excels. Very friendly and super attentive staff that just make the place very welcoming. A nicely decorated cafe with window seats looking out the Tate Modern. Highly recommended!
T. P.
Tried to order food at 4.25 and the staff told me they couldn't serve me as they closed at 4.45. Not sure why (Gail's doesn't sell much that takes 20 mins to eat) and I also understood closing time was 5.30 from looking online. I understand cafes need people to clear out before closing time, but maybe not half an hour beforehand!
F. A.
It became my favourite place for breakfast when I'm up for an exhibition at tate modern. The place is nice and friendly very quiet and perfect for a little rest with a excellent capuccino and all kind of delicious fresh pastry.

4.5/5
Enjoyed their plain scone with clotted cream, jam and butter, and a cup of earl grey tea.
While the taste was 5/5, i would give a -0.5 for the service. One of the female workers there had a hard time understanding my order/communicating in general and forgot to heat my scone when I asked for it to be heated. Moreover, the said female worker and another male worker appeared as if it was their first day on the job...
Regardless, the scone was wonderful, and I especially enjoyed it with butter more so than with the cream. Their butter and jam selection were so amazing that i regret not having bought the jam by the jar and asked for the brand of butter that they use! As for their tea, they've got enough variety to choose from. I got the earl grey with milk in a separate cup, and even without the milk, it was the smoothest, most velvety earl grey tea I've ever had.
It's conveniently located by Tate Modern (I ate on the bench outside Tate Modern as seen in the picture because it saved me 0.50p- just eat inside please lol) so you can visit the two on the same day if you're planning a trip to London!
M. H.
Excellent affordable coffee and fresh bread with breakfast. The breakfast bun was top drawer. Good for client meetings if you can get a corner table out the way, otherwise a bit noisy/busy.
M. W.
Good coffee and pastries, but tables often left littered and plates not well washed. Staff appear way too inexperienced for a place with Gail’s pretensions.
R. F.
Located behind the Tate gallery. Ground floor of a residential complex. Bright and clean bakery brassiere. Amazing selection of pastries and breads and light lunch menu. Coffee is from Union. Recommend stop if you're visiting the Tate or millennium bridge south side.
R. R.
Friendly staff. Extensive selection of baked goods and delicious coffee. We really enjoyed the outdoor seating
A. B.
Lovely people and amazing sweets. Right behind Tate Modern this place is perfect to rest a bit after a long cultural adventure in the museum. They also have salads sandwiches and soups if you are looking for something to nibble on.
A. L.
Had a great coffee here, and the decor was incredible! It was absolutely packed while I was there, though. Staff was friendly, and I didn't have to wait long to get my drink. Saw many people there working on iPads/laptops, and it seemed like the kind of spot to be able to work at (albeit a little on the loud side right at peak hours).
Ö.
they serve yummy bakeries and coffee. the only thing I don't like about this place is that the tables are often dirty.
T. M.
Actually pretty cool cafe. Especially for a place so close to a tourist area. Food was great.
E.
Probably the best Gail's I've been to in terms of the venue. Lots of space and sunlight, good service with wide selection of cafe food. Free wifi.
L.
It can be a bit manic at peak time because it is in front of the tate but still an amazing place, as you can expect from Gail’s. Nice scones though.
H. K.
Great selection of pastries and especially of scones. Cute place for a coffee break
M. D.
The best chai latte I ever had! Everyone was super friendly and the cakes were delicious. Try banana caramel pecan cake. It’s to die for!
H. P.
Excellent coffee, pastries, snacks at this branch of the reliably excellent Gail's Bakery - which is just by the rear entrance to Tate Modern.
R. G.
I wouldn’t buy fresh bread here. Perhaps this location is fine for lunch, but they don’t have the bread selection of a normal Gail’s and the bread tasted about a day old. They also don’t have a bread slicer. It’s not what I’m used to when going to Gail’s but I suppose this location is more for tourists and people in town for a bite to eat.
p.
Great cinnamon and sausage rolls.
R. B.
So delicious food with awesome background. Friendly staff.
Coffee was really good.
I. M.
Can I just say that this place is a Gem. The staff are very friendly and extremely helpful. If you are looking for a extremely nice cup of tea and a friendly face then look no further. Recommended by one of London’s Black Cab drivers
A. L.
Very lovely place. Flat White Coffee is pretty much like capuccino, but tastes great. Do not forget to take a cinnabone bun.
A. Y.
Gail's Bakery serves good tea and coffee, biscuits and bread. It is very near to the Tate Modern which is good if you want to visit.
K. H.
Great food, nice atmosphere! Also possible to use as a workplace!
One of the best bakeries i have ever been to! 👌🏻
A. L. P. (.
Delicious treats to choose from and breakfast and more. Also very welcoming staff : ) whenever I am in the area I would love to visit again!
n. t.
The decor is lovely, lots of open space to let the (lack of) sunshine in. Scones were really fresh and fluffy. Pancakes (7GDP for 2 medium sized) were rather disappointing. Lovely waiters and waitresses.
K. P.
Great food and location but most importantly amazing treatment, I've never felt more welcomed and looked after with such nice conversation from the workers!
A. V.
Amazing coffee place with great goodies. A lot to choose from and everything is delicious.
E. M.
Good choice of breads and pastries opposite the back of Tate Modern.
A. P.
While I normally love Gail's, this time wasn't the best. The barista taking my order kept asking to repeat myself to the point I had to shout it at him, which was frustrating. I understad communication in a busy space with face coverings is difficult but seeing as this has been the new normal for the last few months, I would assume staff would be accustomed to it by now.
The food was alright, the table we initially sat at did not get cleaned in a timely manner, although that may have been due to busyness.
E. C.
Have always loved this bakery and enjoyed a brioche with custard berries and crumble - so yummy! There’s some seating outside which was nice but there wasn’t as much spacing inside so you’re still back to back with some people. Also it was strange how they weren’t offering tap water. Otherwise it’s close to the Tate Modern (just behind it) so a good spot to get away from the crowds.
A. K.
Just what I needed. Wanted a light tasty lunch and coffee after going to an exhibition at Tate Modern and that's what Gail's offered. The options were interesting and delicious and service was quick and friendly, nice decor and reasonable prices for London. Also had some nice breads and pastries for sale which we were very tempted by.
O. M.
On our way to Tate we stopped for breakfast here, and what a great way to start the day. There are loads of vegetarian breakfast options, both hot and cold. The coffee is good, the baked goods are yummy, and the staff were friendly. I’m gonna integrate Gail’s into my Tate days from now on
M. K.
Amazing bakery, a little pricey, but can't complain too much. Really nice aesthetic too. Would certainly recommend in combination with Grilandia across the street.
N. M.
Really enjoy coming to Gail's. Food is good, very easy eating (who doesn't love breakfast at lunch?) and the coffee is so good. Gets pretty busy so seating is a bit of an issue inside when it is cold and wet outside. Service can be a bit hit and miss when busy but staff are helpful.
O. W.
Great bakery, love their sweets, would like it even more if they had more gluten free selection. :)
C. D.
it is ok. different kind of breakfast (sweet corn pancakes). Coffee is nice
A. S.
Perfect place for a nice breakfast before heading to Tate! We loved it!
N. J.
The cakes were very good and the latte was very good quality with the atmosphere being very relaxed and I would have given 5 stars but the service lacked a little. I had to ask for the clotted cream for the scone rather than the butter that was served even though it should have been served work the cream. I dislike having to complain but if I am in the area I will try the place again.
D.
My favourite Gail's - for two reasons:
1. Lovely staff - and of course, food!
2. An absence of laptop parasites; the kind who sit in a café for hours on end, taking up space with a cold cup of coffee they bought upon entering. How any business can operate with these people is beyond me! I would show them the door after an hour.
I was recently in Gail's Willesden Green and the ENTIRE space was taken up by these freaks!
m. v. m.
First time scone with clotted cream and i loved it!
R. H.
I picked a busy moment and joined a queue which moved quickly and my coffee was excellent. Lots of temptation on the bakery counter, nice live foliage decor. I noticed how popular this place is with solos on their laptops hogging tablespace but I was taking away so didn't have to negotiate a seat
J. R.
Good lord is Gail's overpriced but I still love it. A nice atmosphere, reasonable coffee and the cakes! Oh my the cakes. I have a particular soft spot for the reversed chocolate chip cookie but I do feel somewhat violated at £2.50 a pop. But I'll keep going, and you probably should too.
Yum.
J. K.
Easily the best bakery around. I may as well have been from another planet when I walked inside “Oh, you’re American?!” So exotic. I told them I had never been to Gail’s, and soon enough they were pulling everyone from the kitchen “Oye! What would you order if this was your first time. Sebastian, get out here!” Okay then. They gave me a free brownie (2-for-one) deal and I was on my way. Both choices were delicious and I scarfed on my walk back to the hotel while enjoying the classy London scenery. Beautiful company, wonderful staff.
A. C. C.
Gail's bakery is an amazing spot to spend a quite morning! Away from a cluttered life full of work, stress and running. Is a beautiful bakery to spend few minutes as well as the whole morning where you can fully concentrate on those tasks that you never have time for, while having an amazing croissant and coffee. Amazing staff that looks after you all the time while leaving you that enough space to fully enjoy your morning like you haven't in a long time.
Fully recommend to check it out and not only for an eat an run.
K. G.
Carla and Gabi are the best, they deserve a pay raise!! Excellent costumer service.
E. A.
Can't fault the place. Been having coffee here every day since I started working in the area and quite often lunch too. Good people as staff, always friendly and accommodating. Lovely interior decorations, true quality in the heart of London!
B. G.
Wonderful ambience. Big glass floor to ceiling windows. Amazing selection of baked goods. Prices are somewhat high but maybe typical for London (visiting from USA). Best scrambled eggs I've ever had, but small plate.
R. H.
Easily the best bakery around. I may as well have been from another planet when I walked inside “Oh, you’re American?!” So exotic. I told them they had never been to Gail’s, and soon enough they were pulling everyone from the kitchen “Oye! What would you order if this was your first time. Jennifer, get out here!” Okay then. They gave me a free brownie (2-for-one) deal and I was on my way. Both choices were delicious and I scarfed on my walk back to the hotel while enjoying the classy London scenery. Beautiful company, wonderful staff.

I had a lovely coffee and pain au chocolat from here but there's only one coffee machine so there was quite a wait for it. They also seemed a bit understaffed so were rushed off their feet. That said it was nice and I'd go back; however if you're in a rush I'd go somewhere else.
F. P.
Really nice coffeee and good stuff. recomanded
L. W.
Really lovely lunch here, avocado on toast and soup. Quick, friendly service, great space. Only thing I hated is that if you want a salad it comes in a plastic pot which they then tip into a bowl. Completely unnecessary #singleuseplastic
I. T.
Love the food and cakes! My fav cafe❤️
H. B.
Great service, very friendly and efficient at this Gail's. I always love the fresh food and variety of healthy & naughty options!
The yoghurts always seem to sell out, maybe they could make some more ;)
E. Y.
Food is fine. The coffee is great, at least it's the best latte I have taste in London in last 30 days. Have no idea why people will say it's average or even bad. BTW I come from Melbourne, the Melbourne with great coffe.
H. M. G.
Charming shop with great coffee and beautiful pastries. The clerk was a bit uninterested and hard to hear (despite me asking her to repeat herself many times) but other than that a lovely spot for breakfast!
P. T.
Much nicer food here than Members' Room at Tate. Sadly not a huge choice for vegetarians though the menu may be incorrectly marked - I couldn't see why a couple of dishes were not vegetarian but not so identified.
P. H.
Nice food and great coffee, just a shame about the stroppy barista
D. J.
Really good food, here. A vast selection of hot and cold food. There's a small amount of outdoor seating, but if you get your good to go, there's lots of seating around the Tate Modern, just outside.
B. J.
Met a work colleague for a coffee and a catch up. Coffee was very good and had a chocolate brownie, one of the best I've ever had. Planning to try more baked goods from here so will review as appropriate 👍
R. M.
Quite a big queue on a Sunday morning but we didn't wait long & could still get a table. Tasty & simple brunch made with great fresh ingredients & quick service.
H. M.
Yummy
A. P.
Great breakfast, 2 fried eggs and crispy bacon on a muffin and a lovely cappuccino followed by an almond muffin, yummy😃.
Only waited a couple of minutes for it to arrive, excellent service, I would recommend.
V. O.
It became our Saturday morning tradition. Pretty location, tasty bakery, nice simple breakfasts and good quality coffee. All you really need from a cafe, just wish it wasn't so busy at times.
M. S.
Good and fast service, great food. Nice and modern cafe near Tate modern, cool place to have a break from art😉 All the desserts look really good!
A. B.
Best cinnamon bun ever!!
T. C.
Let me think eaten and had thing from here a few times now always good. Staff welcoming lovely
M. K.
By far the best sausage roll I have ever eaten.
I was literally walking down the street moaning out loud while eating it.
Ebded up back for another within 5 minutes of eating it.
Seriously, give it a try, just make sure you have a change of underwear as you'll likely need them they're that good
D. B.
Super nice bakery that also does great salads and lunches. Good selection of teas and the usual coffee choices. The sweet pastries are amazing.
박.
Scone is soft and well baked!! It is perfect with strawberry jam and clotted cream served with it
Gail's bakery was an oasis for me after looking around Tate Modern❣️❣️
Love this place!!!
V. F.
Good backery with limited selection of dessert and sweety stuff. Average ex
espresso. 4 backery pieces 3 espressos and a succo for 26£
A. R.
Love their breads. Coffee is a bit on the heavy side and if that's your style then you'll love it. Nice ambience for a quick snack.
D. C.
I like the cheese and ham croissants in these cafés. But I specially love tis local, because it has a lot of light and it is near the Thames
M. S.
This is a busy but we'll designed cafe offering some great cakes and biscuits. I enjoyed a lot of tea and the range of food is unusual and worth trying.
K. T.
Really good, fast service, i found it a bit pricey for the portion size, but itally worth it occasionally. I noticed it was laptop friendly, a lot of people were working from there.
K. k. S.
Wonderful salads. Used to love their cinnammon rolls but they have been stale recently. They make too many and leave out. Loosing its homemade feel.
Z. Z.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff. One of my favourite places to sit down, relax and get some work done
L. H.
I have called once to save some carrot cake for my lady's birthday. When arrived all the pieces were nicely packed and good to go. Very nice and professional staff.
K. H.
A bit pricey, but delicious and addictively moreish food in an always cosy, warm atmosphere, one of my favourite spots in London for cakes, hot chocolate and herbal tea
I. A. R.
Lovely atmosphere but above all wonderful staff - accommodating, kind and friendly. If you have a chance, try the scones - they are delicious!
M. W.
Cozy place to enjoy coffee or lunch break. So many choices of healthy food to choose from. Walking distance from Tate Modern Museum.
B. P.
Really lovely decor but the service took a long time for a take out Tea and my colleague's order was wrong. Maybe just a one off mistake and will go back.
B. l.
Good service... generally if you catch the odd lull. Nice cakes and coffees
I figured the refit was to make the space bigger as it is so busy. But looks the same.
s. m.
Very good place for a weekend brunch, next to the Tate. Go early as they don't have many table and it gets really busy
R. G.
Fairly small coffee shop/bakery. Ideal for small groups due to communal type seating arrangements. Excellent fresh breads, cakes & pastries
A. R.
Went there for a quick bite, had a very nice salad with vegetarian cakes, and elderflower juice. I'd like to come back for their baked goods.
H. J.
Lovely relaxed place to stop and eat, nothing was too much trouble for the staff and the coffee is good. Highly Recommend.
I. N.
Great coffee and cakes .... and even though lock down ...... an open toilet and service with a smile.
C. M.
I'm always really impressed with the welcome here, they are also clearly dedicated to providing high quality produce. Great layout in this branch in particular!
N. B.
Best cinnamon bun in London! Lots of seating, light and modern also great place for brunch.
I. T.
The best almond and chocolate croissants, bread and lovely strong coffee.
A. J.
Always love Gail's Bakery. Great coffee but Barista on her own...17 minute wait for an Americano today 😥
A. G.
Nice place but cakes are overrated...
S. P.
The lady behind the counter was really nice. The mozzarella sandwich was incredibly good an they had a nice cappuccino!
s. v.
Nice food, as usual for a Gail's on the expensive side, but the staff were nice to my daughter who was not feeling well
J. W.
Efficient and friendly customer focus. Chicken and vegetables soup so good on a ghastly day as was rose pistachio cake.
J. M.
Great iced tea. Cool inside on a hot day
K. A. B.
My favourite breakfast place. Best coffee in town, great atmosphere, good people!
A. L.
The borekitas are always a delight. The focaccia is pretty decent too. A bit too expensive.
G. V.
Two Words: Cinnamon Buns. This place is insane and takes pastries to the next level. Best coffee in Chiswick by a country mile.
F. M.
Service is super slow, prices are high, and often not many places to sit, but vibe is really nice, so keeps you coming back if you are based locally.
A.
Nice staff and beautiful ambiance. Gail's is always a good choice although you have to pay a bit more than other places.
L. M.

E. C.
Great coffee and pastries. Friendly staff, very cool and young ambiance.
T. B.
Great food, great bread but most of all really nice friendly staff!
J. L.
Decent food and coffee with a good atmosphere away from the chaotic tourist traps of Southbank.
A. K.
A fantastic place to work from, grab a healthy lunch, tea or coffee. The breads are out of this world.
E. G.
Good food, a bit slow (but they were very busy).
C. L.
This is a great place to sit, read, have a drink and take a break. Near the Tate and Southbank but away from the crowds.
