Reviews of GAIL's Bakery Pimlico
S. I.
The chai latte is super good and the place always smells great. Still getting to know my local coffee places around but this one is pretty yum. I like the interior of this Gail's, although only the upstairs area seating was open. The table we sat at hadn't been cleaned.
R.
Great pastries and coffees as in every Gail's. I do agree with other reviews that the staff are not super friendly but that's fine it's a bakery so not expecting Savoy-like service. One to try is the custard and blueberry pastry, absolutely amazing! (See pictured)
麵.
Met super friendly staff Indy again in different branch of Gail’s Bakery. What a coincident!
Will visit again for sure.
M. U.
I really enjoyed the experience at Gail's. I had the opportunity to try some of their foods and drinks, being struggle to make a choices between them as everything is amazing. On the other hand, I would like to highlight the professional attendance of the staff, Constantino and Yonela between them. They were really friendly. I definitely will come back.
J. S.
Great friendly and fast staff service, always very attentive and asking about my allergies. Delicious and always fresh food. All of the different coffee choices makes everything even better.
M. R.
The quality of the bread is amazing. We sat outside and ordered brunch. I didn’t like the fact you have to queue in the same line as people just buying stuff from the bakery. No menus that I could see, only above the till area. So had to stand aside of the queue, pick what we wanted and then queue again! Our table wasn’t cleaned from the previous occupant, even when our food arrived!!! I had a cold drink which I bought with me after ordering, my friend had coffee which arrived after we had eaten!. She was also not given any cutlery!! Couldn’t even ask someone as the queue was out of the door by this point and our food would be cold. So she managed to find a plastic knife and folk. FYI they don’t work well with sourdough bread!!
Look I get that they were super busy and clearly need more staff but the whole queueing situation is very annoying. The bread gets 5 ⭐️ the service doesn’t.
C. F.
Lovely little branch of this bakery; nice range of pastries and other food; cute outdoor area and bright and friendly indoor seating.
Food: 5/5
Ambience: 5/5
Service: 4/5

Update 19 Jan 2020: tried the almond butter and fruit compote porridge, which was great and extremely filling.

I have never written a review, but Gail’s Pimlico deserves one, and particularly Candice!! My husband and I have been here twice in the last week, and have had the best customer service and experience at any bakery/cafe/restaurant ever ever been to - both times. Our first visit, Candice greeted us warmly, was patient with us contemplating all the delicious looking pastries, and even threw in an extra pastry I was eyeing but thought I’d save for next time, on the house! Everything was delicious, from the hot breakfast items to the pastries, and coffee and tea. We loved the pistachio rose lemon cake in particular, but honestly we’ve tried 5 different pastries at this point and have loved every single one. The second visit, Candice was working again, and she helped us put together a really nice box of pastries to take for a visit to a family get together. I can’t exclaim enough how wonderful Candice has treated us, always smiling, cheery, and hospitable. And the pastries are delicious! It’s taking everything not to pop in every morning, my waistline won’t appreciate it!

Most goods are baked fresh and look superb. Great seating space inside so don’t be put off by the small tables by the entrance or the queue (you to order at the counter before you seat). Their “toasted” scones with jam and butter with a flat white are a winner.
D. N.
a very pleasant and value-for-money place for breakfast! we came here three times during our visit to london because it's near the flat we were staying at, and the service was great on all visits! we loved the mushroom and caramelised onions quiche. there is also a good selection of breads and pastries! A for atmosphere as well — music choice was great and not too loud.
P. M. V.
Great bakery and pasticerie. Good variety and lovely products.
The place is really quiet and well decorated. Good for eating quickly or to stay to sudy or read.
Staff is nice, but sometimes you need to wait to much for them to deliver the food to your table.
I think is a bit overpriced.
B. W.
Yummy bread and pastries. Service can be a little hit and miss, usually friendly but people are often asking for help from other members of staff. It is popular so be prepared for them to have run out of stuff (freshly baked baguettes are great but hard to get!)
M. i.
Cannot go past Gail's for their sourdough bread. Try their mushrooms on sourdough when you've time to do for brunch/light lunch. Great selection of breakfast pastries with some really naughty looking treats as well.
T. P.
Really good food at reasonable prices. I had the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on sourdough toast and enjoyed every mouthful! Couldn't stop myself buying a chocolate and pecan brownie afterwards, which was also thoroughly delicious.
T. O.
First thing sunday morning my chef needs sourdough for the breakfast rush.. Candice helped get it all ready to go despite being understaffed and dealing with a long line! Thanks so much!
S. A.
It has a lovely sitting area.
Location is good as well.
I’m not 100% pleased with all of their staff mainly.. I had my own keep-cup and I did make it clear that I will stay so I was happy for them to charge the “stay-in” price but I wanted to use my cup cause there was a slight chance of me having to go quicker. Anyway, it’s not the best coffee you will have and staff is a bit different let’s say from your usual friendly coffee shop.. but I’m sure the overall experience people will have is great. Their bread is delicious anyway. I’m sure their pastries are great too !
M. L.
Goodness Gracious me. This is a warning to all Gails Customers. In this branch they close the kitchen most days whenever they fancy it. On multiple ocassions I was told the kitchen closes 3PM only to arrive at 12/1/2 and be told its closed. Do I look like I can chew an apple through a letter box? Why are you playing with me its making loco; you know lil bit unwell in the head. What is the reason? Is it because chef cant be bothered or is there a conspiracy going on here. Im not naming any names but someone is butchering my coffess. Hot enough to make steel malleable. I once drove off with this scolding cup and 30min later it was still very hot. Unbelievable.
S. A.
Really nice small bakery. The egg sandwich was outstanding while the pain au chocolate was okay. Their lemonade is also pretty okay
H. P. -. v.
excellent place. fresh a delicious stuff.
H. K.
I love your cinnamon rolls!!💕
And the carrot cake too! (in this season they don't have the carrot cake..😢)
Blueberry brioche and pecan cinnamon crumble etc.
Anyway, fresh bread and nice staffs:) lovely!
C. L.
I came in for the first time ever rather late in the day, and to my dismay, the hot foods had stopped being served! But the staff was very helpful and offered me wonderful advice on what to eat instead! Needless to say, they know their stuff and it’s DELICIOUS!! As per their suggestion, highly recommend the feta and dill escargot pastry!!
C.
Food: 5/5. All the baked goods are amazing. Savoury and sweet alike, everything tastes better than you'd imagine. I personally vouch for the tomato and feta brioche and the cinnamon bun. The coffee isn't quite as tasty, but it's not bad either.
Service: 3/5. When I went with a group, three out of six orders were forgotten. Upon asking about them, we found that one order was burnt--about fifteen minutes ago, and nobody informed us. We ended up waiting another fifteen so our coworkers could get their food and take it back to the office. When I went alone, I was served twice by different people who seemed a bit annoyed or like they'd rather not be there, but maybe they were having bad days. Another time, the person serving me was really friendly and sweet.
Ambiance: 4/5. Really beautiful décor; an exposed brick wall, hanging lights, and plants on the wall make for cosy surroundings. Sitting on the small tables can become invasive when a lunchtime rush nestles right before your table. Downstairs there are more seats, and you can see (and smell) the bread being baked.
B. B.
We ate breakfast here everyday. Never had a bad pastry. Fresh ingredients. You can tell everything was made in house and that day. Definitely a must-try! It's only approximately a 15 minute walk from Westminster Abbey.
C. K.
Lovely bakery for a breakfast and coffee. Ambiance is great, service is pretty good but it's a busy place so maybe a small wait. Overall highly recommended.
S. T.
There is a great selection of homemade style cakes, bread and pastries here. Most weekends there is a long queue out if the door and the seating area is very busy. Everything is freshly baked/cooked/ground, I would definitely recommend Gail's :)
N. B.
Best place for oats and a cinnamon bun, along with great service. Will be back next month! 11/11/21, Cally☁️
V. H.
My favourite place to go to for a weekend breakfast. I recommend their vegetable ciabatta, toasted, combined with dirty (or normal) chai latte. it's great!
I also recommend their sourdough breads 🍞🥖, they're all great!
It can get quite busy though during the afternoon, there's almost always a big queue, although they work fast, and worst case scenario there are seats downstairs where you can even watch the bakers at work. :)
Prices as you'd expect are higher than Tesco's or Sainsbury's, but it's well worth it for me.
G. C.
Always a friendly smile from the lovely staff here.
The Danish spelt loaf is particularly nice. It's very dense, keeps for ages and freezes get well.
There's a nice selection of sweet and savory lunch options as well as fresh coffee.
T. M. M.
I could live on these croissants. This Gail’s has a little outside space as well as indoor seating.
T. P.
Really nice café in Pimlico ~ an area of London that is peaceful, leafy and has a good vibe.
h. s.
Great food and nice atmosphere. A little bit expensive but for us it was worth the tasty breakfast.
S. H.
Salads, cakes, sandwiches, coffee.. whatever you want and even nice juices and good coffee. Small cozy bakery which does great lunch and beautiful store with plants as decoration
A.
Artesarian bakery near to Victoria station
Great coffee.
Open monday to Friday 7:00 am to 7:00 pm.
Saturday and Sunday 7:30 to 18:30.
A. A.
Very warm and cozy place, staff are very friendly and the oats are great. 11/10/21, Callus
P. Z.
Super nice place. Everything what I like: stylish, healthy ( they have oat milk) and efficient.
A. S.
Great breakfast, pastries, coffee, bread, ambiance. There’s seating downstairs near the baking action. The mushroom toast is an excellent choice with the bureks. Unless you absolutely just need your avocado fix, I’d skip the side of guacamole because it’s tiny for the cost.
J. M.
They serve delicious sausage rolls.
And good looking flourless chocolate cake and honey cake.
S. F.
Great bread and pastries. I regularly have the quiches which are very tasty. The coffee is good too. An excellent choice for weekend brunch.
Try to sit outside or near the door though - if you get a table in the lower ground area or towards the back of the ground floor, your clothes may smell like food for hours. Happened to me twice! Deducting one star for this (perhaps ventilation can be improved?) but apart from that, no complaints and all praises for the delicious food.
C. M.
Outstanding coffee and range of baked foods available. It is very pricey, but well worth it and customer service too is generally really positive.
숑.
Had a fantastic scone here! ask for clotted cream its a must!!!
d. u. t. a. (.
Cute little spot for breakfast. Maybe a little bit pricey, but the atmosphere and quality of food made it worth it.
A. D.
Great little place with almost confusing choice of pastries, and yes, great coffee.
Staff is frirndly and ptofessional, and service is great. Will go again.
A. P.
Nice coffee. Nice bread but goes hard very very quickly so i have to put it in plastic bag. Also soooo expensive
J. S. (. S. L.
Thanks Candice and co for the nice warm hospitality:). Will be back soon! 👍👍👍
D. A.
Cute little buns and real Easter treat with the warm hot cross buns!
O. M.
Certainly standard Gail affair - bakery and cafe + cakes. Bread is welcomed given the recent lack of availability of decent bread during the lockdown, locally at least. Their coffee is not bad -perhaps a tad under extracted & milk often too hot; on the otherhand pastries are v good and scones and banana bread /cakes are simply divine!!!!
I must say that the staff attitude could improve - and that is a Gail's phenomena (at least for the ones I have been to). They are a little short, get stressed when busy and also could perhaps be a bit more polite when they have misheard what you have said.
S. T.
Good selection of breads and savouries, some cakes as well. Enjoyed a late tea and hot cross buns while the wife had chocolate brownie type slice. Not cheap but very good quality and service, even at 4.45pm on a Saturday. Not a huge amount of seating and a little narrow, too snug for some where the counter, people come in and tables opposite are. That said, it is a place I'd go back too.
C. B. C.
Love the pistacchio+lemon+rose cakes
E. “. M.
Very food selection for a breakfast either continental or English. cafeteria well prepared (cappuccino with too coffee by the way). not easy to choose. Nice ambient with a big familiar table in the middle, additional seating lower ground. and if you are not there early morning a long queue will be there for you. Good quality croissant
m. ş. K.
Love their sourdough bread and deli's at the counter.
A. W.
A lovely little bakery, hidden in a back street. Think more bread and sandwiches than cupcakes. But a delicious sandwich none the less in a lovely space. You can see the bakery downstairs where they're making everything. Highly recommend the sausage rolls. Ideal for a quick lunch, or a longer stay to chat over a coffee
V. Z.
Excellent café for a quick bite or full breakfast. I enjoyed their bacon maple french toast and their blueberry pancakes. This location can get busy. There is more seating downstairs. Large selection of sandwiches and pastries
S. C.
Tasty but pricey - had a small-sized flourless choco cake for £4.25. Ambience was nice, seemed to have a good selection of snacks and coffees. Decent crowd too. Good place to pop in and catch a breath.
G. C.
Amazing scones!! Honestly I didn't try anything else... coffee was average but they definitely make up for it in pastry and bread. A bit on the pricey side but hey...
K. C.
Don't agree with other reviews. Don't think that it's overpriced. High quality. Delicious. Served beautifully. Regular visitor with my 93 year old Mum who's in a wheelchair & has Dementia (mainly forgetfulness) and with friends too, mainly at breakfast time. Well done all.
K. M.
My favourite place for coffee, really good and consistent taste of milk (just perfect silky froth)
F. R.
Delicious coffee, a rather dry pecan, walnut and maple syrup scone and far too long a wait. Pleasant surroundings and pleasant personell a little under stress and surprisingly only one person attending while another person is behind the counter too. No Good morning or smiles.
C. P.
The hardest part about coming home was leaving this place behind. DELICIOUS!
G. G.
The food is always delicious although be prepared to pay £1-2 more than you think it's worth.
Atmosphere is very hit and miss. It needs better crowd control in terms of how people get seats (e.g. Those who are at the till paying should be guaranteed a seat ahead of customers at the back of the line; customers should be made aware there is seating downstairs; perhaps a barrier between queue and solo seats so dining feel so intruded upon; the menus should be at the door instead of at the front of the queue so people can choose ahead of arriving at the till).
Also a member of staff today was clearly very stressed (blonde hair in pony tail, grey t-shirt, perhaps Eastern European?) and snapping at customers when she needed to get past, rolling her eyes at colleagues... it just made the atmosphere very unpleasant.
When it's nice, it's great and when it's not, the quality of the food makes you not so bitter but questioning if you'll return! Fortunately it's local to me, so it's intermittently kept my custom
C. H.
A recent but welcome addition to the area, Gail's fits in wonderfully with the area of Pimlico. Offering an eye candy array of baked pastries and cakes as soon as you walk in, there's a seating area to the back if you're planning on staying longer. They serve well brewed and fresh coffee which compliments the cakes really well. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. You can also help yourself to free water!
j. C.
Have your patience especially in the morning to be asked what pastries you would like to have. This branch makes good coffee. Parents with babies seemed to be one of the regular customers. Local friendly. solo seating here is one of the things that is different from the other branch.
R. M.
Such choice and exquisite flavours makes Gail's an obvious choice when you want that something different even special. Bought one of every cake so that we could have an afternoon tea to remember! Try it and see for yourself....
f. m.
Lovely cafe. Went with some colleagues and had vegan hot chocolate and Christmas cinamon roll (not vegan but delish) - they do have some vegan cakes too though. Interiors are nice and cosy and the staff are friendly.
K. R.
Had smashed avocado on toast and it was delicious. Hot chocolate was a bit strong for me so probably wouldn't have that again but all the pastries and cookies looked delicious. Definitely will be going back!
A. E.
Wonderful staff and amazing food/drinks! They have the best chai lattes and delicious cookies. I highly recommend you visit this bakery if you are in London.
E. E. E.
Fortunate find in Pimlico. Comfortable place good WiFi. Great selection of food.
Coffee ☕ was fantastic. 👌
Food tastes excellent, only gripe, sandwich bread and cookie were starting to go dry and brittle, because they were pre made. 😔
L. B.
Delicious, I just took one star because on my toast there was a coriander not included in menu :( Beside that little inconvenient it was a pleasure to eat breakfast there. Will be back in the future :)
C. A.
Very slow. Always. Sat for coffee for 15 minutes today before I had to go and get it myself. The cafe was quiet. Queues out of the door at weekends. Even trying to buy bread is a mission.
Y. H.
A huge selection of freshly baked goods, small sandwiches, croissants, and cakes, great coffee.. indoor and outdoor seating. Great for a small bite or a quick breakfast dine in or takeaway. Convenient for travellers staying near Pimlico
C.
Me and my friends went here for breakfast twice. The Greek yoghurt and granola was out of this world. I had a chia pudding, which was exceptionally good. The baked croissant was sublime and I must admit, it’s hard to chose what to eat because you want to eat it all. Took two pies for take away lunch/dinner, and they were almost as good as in France (quiche Lorraine and another with croguette and chèvre). Perfect place for breakfast or lunch or coffe. Just go here, you won’t be disappointed.
A. B.
Good chain bakery, coffee and brunch type food.
Staff - friendly
Prices - above average
Ambiance - 4/5
Food - generally good - economic portions
Would I go back - I keep going back. It is one of my preferred chain cafes.
E. B.
Fantastic team, always happy and bubbly even at the busiest time! Their flat white is the best in Pimlico.
T. T.
Food was good, great vegan options. But they should pay more attention to details like, cleaning the tables before serving new customers.
But the did was
M. L.
Nice coffee and baked goods. Service is quick and friendly. Can be tricky to get a seat at peak times and WiFi is not the fastest available around.
L. N.
One of my favourite places in Pimlico. Amazing for business meetings. Welcoming staff, great food. Try the capuccino with oat milk and the avocado toast. Very tasty and fresh.
W. T. L.
Great espresso and pastries. Lovely staff
K. D.
Cute little bakery in a great location! The scones and muffins here were delicious, and the staff were very friendly and kind.
D. Z. L.
Fantastic food, coffee and atmosphere at crazy reasonable prices. It has the class and quality of a high end cafe @ prices that were startling. I'm a good way :)
N. S.
Great Breakfast, friendly Staff.
L. P.
Good but a bit inflated prices for such small cakes.
B. D.
Good baked goods and a good place to sit work and have a coffee. Have had a few breakfasts here and it is worth it. The staff are friendly and helpful.
R. F.
Great place, bigger than it looks (more seating downstairs)
E. M.
Great staff, great coffee, great cinnamon buns, great salads. My favorite weekend spot for a delicious treat! 10/10.
D. M.
Everytime I make it back to London Gail's becomes my local. Great staff. Coffee and the bakery goods are out of this world good
A. B.
A bit big price difference between take away and sit in but overall great place . Highly recommended. If I was living near definitely would be my breakfast to go place
P. R.
Had a wonderful breakfast with lots of good selections. Loved the Rosewater pistachio lemon cake. Thanks for the excellent service.
A. G.
This shop is awesome. Amazing selection of pastries(not the boring classic ones) , snacks, perfect bread and cozzy atmosphere. Great choise.
A. R. B.
I have been living here for long now and I can say this is, by far, my favourite place to jave a lunch/brunch/coffee.
I can't wait to get out of work to go there and grab a chelsea bun to eat on my way home.
A must in London.
R. M.
Usual delicious array on offer. It's so popular there is often a queue at the weekend. Larger premesis might help.
R. W.
Nice shop food is absolutely 1st class cakes are brilliant taste like nothing else you've tasted staff polite and helpful if u passing I would recommend it I would have given it 5 stars but the only downside is that it's expensive and the portions could be bit bigger or am I being greedy.
M. G.
Good bread and coffee ,good selection for cakes and sandwiches but not the best place if you fancy eggs for breakfast
f.
Nice decor with good food. Coffee was not very warm though. Food can take a while so not good if your in a hurry.
M. E.
Delicious bakery, perfect sourdough
Quite Expensive
P. M.
Wow, I wish I had come more hungry. This place was awesome. Everything looked amazing. I just got a pastry but wish I had been there for lunch.
j. j.
The pastries are fabulous. Coffee also. We just popped in for a quick cup of joe but thoroughly enjoyed our experience.
D. H.
Nice building but the coffee isn't for me. Too milky.
A. B.
Really good place but a bit small. Lot of choice. Fresh food. Smily cashier. A bit expensive but I think it's the price when you want good food 😊.
D. B.
Lovely cakes, croissants and breads to have with a coffee
T. R.
Lovely little bakery, offering sweet and savoury treats. Great coffee too!
א. ח. ט.
Very Very good frash and tasty coffie breakfast and pastries....

C. M.
Was a very nice and kind services... With fresh and warm food...I will definitly eat there again
A. M.
great selection of baked goods, light lunch options and free wifi. great place to take a friend or chill with a coffee and book
L. M.
Absolutely fantastic coffee, and you can’t beat the smell of fresh baked bread
D. H.
Great food and coffee. Though every outlet I've been too has outrageously poor service and is so slow.
S. G.
Nice to see a Gail's come to Pimlico. We's goin' up in the werld! Great bread, great pastries and the coffee's not bad neither!
U. A.
Nice spot for breakfast. Coffee is okay but the food is excellent especially the French toast
S. A.
Nice place. Great pastries. Sandwich selection is small but good
c. l.
Love Gails and always enjoyed talking to the staff on my Friday lunch time visits. Sadly moved jobs but would recommend this place.
M. V.
Absolutely lovely bakery with different variety of things to eat and great environment.
E. W.
I didn't actually have any cake but it all looked DELICIOUS! Tasty coffee and good ambience.
지.
Very popular with local people. Have to wait for a long time to get a cup of coffee but it tastes great.
F. B.
Nice breakfast but upstairs is a bit cold and downstairs you sit in the kitchen... Meh
E. T.
it's a newly oppened cosy coffee shop with great coffee. It looks like its also open after 7PM if you are into an evening boost :D
V.
The coffee was great the service wasn't that much.
W. B.
Excellent for coffee and cake or savoury deligjts. Can get busy.
K. S.
Lovely place where you can get good coffee and bakery. And off course, nice stuff.
Z. B.
Excellent quality, delicious bakeries however a bit expensive compare to similar places
g. C.
Had the hot cross bun, spinach roll, and avocado egg sandwich. All were very delicious
C. D.
Great to have another cafe option in Pimlico. Coffee is generally good, as are the breads and pastries.
J. H.
Don't mix a take away item with something you plan to eat in. It will all sit in a bag by the register waiting for you rather than be delivered to your table
D. T.
A huge variety of pastries to choose from, their cookie and maple scone was pretty good
A. R.
Great spot for a pastry and coffee. Even though it's a chain it feels like a local cafe.
S.
Just the right balance of quiet and busy, the scone and clotted cream and jam could not have been more perfect 💖
P. Á. F.
Nice bakery in the heart of the neighborhood. Great selection of freshly made breads.
C. B.
Very nice place to go for a coffee and Muffin.
o. o.

Really great coffee and bakery selection. Americans must try the scone and clotted cream.
L. B.
Huge selection of savoury and sweet all made on the premises, nice ambience, good coffee.
T. P.
The cinnamon rolls are super tasty and, while it is at a premium, it is worth it and the staff are friendly
D. A. d. O.
Small and cosy cafe place with decent selection of small snacks to grab with coffee.
M. Z.
Cannot get enough of them. Great value too!
B. M.
Such slow service, but if you prepared to wait then you'll enjoy what they bring.
O.
The bread and pastries are amazing. The staff is top notch as well.
J. S.
Fantastic mouth watering if you are in the area you must grab a pastry or two.
L. H. C.
Good branch - excellent bread and cakes, efficient and helpful staff. Good value for money.
J. L.
Lovely porridge, fresh croissants and excellent coffee!
R. S.
Great bread, although they do run out of the san fran sourdough too often...
M. L.
Gorgeous food and great variety.
Music ghastly and too loud.
Z. R.
Food here is really good, really enjoyed the coffee and pastries
N. S.
Meh. No one was even fake pleasant, the croissant was overdone and the coffee was OK. Overrated.
O. W.
Really tasty sandwiches and breakfast options, and great staff!
C. D.
A really well put together chain of bakeries providing delicious food and good coffee.
a.
Nice little spot to have a bite to eat. If you're in the area and looking for brekky then stop in here.
D. J.
Atmosphere 5 stars
Food 5 stars
Time for food service could use some improvement
F. L.
Had a really good lunch and their coffee is exceptional.
t. n.
Its a brilliant workout with a real community vibe among the staff and clients.
