Reviews of Maitre Choux South Kensington
T. B.
The best Choux I have ever had. The service was very good and the styleing was on point. It all made for a fantastic experience. We actually ended up going back twice! Very polite young gentleman behind the desk.
K. P.
Love their minimal presentation so much. I wanted to try all of them but unfortunately It was about 2pm in the afternoon on the day I came and only had 3-4 eclair choices remaining. I didn’t expect it to taste that great 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 But it did!! Also lychee drink was so so so good🥰🥰 10/10
T. T.
Fresh, delicious, beautifully looking and presented pastries - the perfect treat and gift for just about any occasion and celebration!
I.
Very beautiful artisan patisserie specialising in choux pastries, including eclairs and chouquettes. Sat inside and enjoyed an espresso and some pastries. The pastries are divine :) Highly recommended.

Found this place a few years ago and I always come back whenever I'm in London. The place is small but it hides true gems inside. The eclairs look and taste amazingly. I loved the one with caramel and popcorn. The puff with sugar is an additional delight. I will definitely come back here the next time I'll be in the city.
A. K.
Food eclairs, the hazelnut is great. Pistachio could be better.
Good coffee.
Chouettes - amazing.
A. L.
Not the average eclair. The price was questionable for me at first but once Ive had my first bite, I know it worth every penny. Beautiful dessert. Fine quality of ingredients. Everything is just so right. Will definitely go back if Ive a chance to visit London again.
K. P.
The shop is very small, but the shop window does entice you in, like a luxury shoe or bag shop. Just like those shops they don't include the price tag, but then you realise they costs about £5+ each (about 4 inch long), it will make you think twice to see if you really want it.
Although, I will personally suggest this is more of a treat rather than a regular indulgence.. the strawberry and Hazelnut & Milk Chocolate are very light (This takes skill) and flavourful (The shop assistant did say they liked the strawberry the best). The dark chocolate one had a bitter flavour as it was dark chocolate, but the flavour was intense so some people may not like it (It was ok rather than 'buy again' for me.)
Don't put them in the fridge to eat later, as it will change the texture of the pastry (I learned that when I previously bought these eclairs, the Persian Pistaschio ones are very good too), so you should consume them as soon as possible.
4 stars are for the "cost vs value" and the Dark Chocolate one was only ok.
R.
Hands down one of my favourite places for dessert in L-town! I cannot even bring myself to recommend one single flavour everything I have tried is extremely delicious 🤤 definitely give it a try!
C. M.
Excellent service, beautiful decor and outstanding desserts, especially the eclairs! Perfect place for a sweet treat! Enough seating inside if you’d like to sit and eat, but usually a place I take an eclair or two to go from. They give you lovely boxes for taking away treats, which make them great for gifts as well!
D. O.
Our favorite deserts for the last two weeks while we are visiting UK. It is the jewelry type desert where every bite is just perfect in any aspect. They literally reinvented the old boring eclairs. This is a tiny shop and a bit dark in the back. Only two tables, I wish they had more seating available. We picked a lot of goods to go, we had to have it all one more time before we live UK, until the next time.
The staff is friendly and very gentle handling the eclairs, I was very impressed. Glade to see young people working with smile and care for the product they sale. The guy even took an extra step to organize the box very beautiful with the eclairs. We love Maitre Choux!
A. L.
was so excited to finally visit Maitre Choux, the eclairs are so soooo beautiful, they are art! I cant get enough looking at them. I do feel it is a bit overrated and overpriced for what its worth. the eclairs did not taste as nice as I expected. They are on the tough side, the fillings are tasty but I would not rate is as heavenly. combining price, quality and taste, I consider them just a bit overpriced but i would recommend definitely a try! The staff were very friendly, classy and professional. i took my time in getting one piece of eclair each and some chouxes
M. S.
Jaw dropping and phenominally tasting pastries. Everything I could ask for in an eclair. It's pricey but it's worth every single penny. The box and bag designs are also genuinely beautiful and worth just keeping and reusing. The staff was so lovely too, she explained some things about the pastries and even gave us a little freebie! Genuinely lovely service, will 100% return again and again.
S. B.
Some of the best éclairs I've ever had, but very very expensive. Service was just OK for this kind of money. Eating in is way too expensive, but there are only two small tables anyway, so you would need to be lucky to find a space. An experience, for sure, but too expensive to repeat.

Maitre Choux which is set in the heart of South Kensington and sells the most exquisite eclairs has recently opened a new larger sight in Soho this October.
The adorable little South Kensington shop displays visually stunning eclairs made from light fluffy choux pastry with delicious fillings prepared by award-winning pastry chef and co-owner Joakim Pratt. There is an assortment to satisfy most palettes including fruity, tangy or even tasting of dark chocolate.
As I entered the shop, the aroma of warm pastry had me immediately yearning for some eclairs and a pot of hot tea. My friend and I speedily shared two; Salted Butter with home-made caramel and the Tahitian Vanilla and pecan. The Caramel was creamy yet light and sweet. The Tahitan vanilla paired well with the intense flavour of the roasted caramelised pecans.
Served to us by very friendly women working there, one of them kindly gave us samples of free choquettes which we enthusiastically accepted. Choquettes are empty choux pastry casings that are traditionally eaten in France for breakfast or as a snack. As there is no topping other than the pearl sugar, the fluffiness of the texture of the choux was apparent. I devoured these at the “flash of lightning.” Amusingly the word “Éclair” in French means “flash of lightning.”
Covered in Gold sprays, glittery sprinkles and gold leaves are all indicative of the fact that this place is a rather ‘posh’ affair. £5 - 6 per éclair is outrageously priced to put it mildly and most certainly not for the faint hearted! And for those of you, like myself, who are easily mesmerised by those mouth-watering delicacies in the shop window, just make sure your eyes aren’t bigger than your wallet!
K. Y.
There are many flavors to choose from but the choux are overwhelmingly composed of a mixture of at least 2 (e.g. pistachio and raspberry). Filling was a tad sweet for my taste but the pistachio eclair was quite good. I thought the croquettes were better suited for my taste. The choux were crispy. Quite expensive (£5-6 per choux/eclair).
A. M.
This place is really small, they just have 2 tables. It’s expensive but the eclairs are top quality. They clearly use the best and the freshest ingredients. Joakim Prat is really an artiste, the flavours are just so well balanced, those eclairs are perfect.
H. R.
Very good Eclairs
Various tastes
Quite expensive
T. D.
Pretty and taste good choux. Quite expensive, worth the try. Love the Tahiti and pitaschio which is full of favor.
S. N.
These are the best eclairs I have ever had, out of this world. I really love this place, they have the best eclairs, choux and chouquettes!!!! Yes, it is a bit pricey but it is worth it! I highly recommend this place! The service was nice and friendly :)
J. T.
Absolument fantastique ! Il vaut y venir au moins une fois goûter aux pâtisseries! If you love French pastries and/or choux pastry then this spot is for you. A bit pricey compared to the price you would pay in France (but worth paying as the British do not have any pastries that compare). They only accept card by the way so no cash.
a. p.
The eclairs look irresistible from the window! Very much like the first time I saw my girlfriend. There wasn’t a price in the window or anywhere in the shop for that matter but I asked a fellow friendly customer and she told me that they were £5.20 each. If I had been on my own I would have probably left at this point but I wanted my gf to try one and so we chose Persian pistachio. It was very delicious and worth the experience but overpriced in my opinion. India (friend of my gf) had previously told my gf that if she buys one she will slap her, but my gf told me that my face was too pretty to slap :) So the eclair was worth the experience ... for it was more than just a dessert at the end!
Picture shows the aftermath.......
W. K.
Absolutely beautiful eclairs, best I’ve tasted so far. Pretty pricey, but worth for an occasional treat!
J. M.
Beautiful eclairs, packaged in a really cute box. These are a luxurious little treat and never fail to delight children or adults. For people who are comlaining at the price: gold coated eclairs are a luxury, not a necessity. The two in this photograph were 5 or 6 pounds each. A lot of skill, time and effort has gone into making these by hand, and that considered, the price is actually very resonable.
J. C.
Wow! If I could leave 10 stars, I would leave 11!! I have never been more touched by the amount of effort and service their staff provided for me over the past day with my order of eclairs from across the world!
So my girlfriend was visiting London the past few days and I wanted to send her something special as a surprise at her hotel. I came across Maitre Choux through my research online and decided their eclairs would be the perfect gift for her, so I called from the United States to place an order to be delivered to my girlfriend at her hotel for same day delivery. I was sent a tracking number upon ordering with real time GPS so I could watch as the eclairs were being delivered that evening. Unfortunately the hotel was unable to accept the eclairs that evening due to a technicality with not having the correct guest name, and so my attempted surprise delivery was actually a huge fail when she went to the concierge to retrieve her surprise, and nothing was there. :(
By this time in the evening, Maitre Choux was already closed and I was extremely disappointed and forced to wait until they opened the next morning. When I called in the next morning, I spoke with one of the staff who was able to forward my issue over to the manager, Karin, who was not quite in yet. Within 10-15 minutes I had received several email correspondences from both the courier company and Karin regarding the undelivered eclairs. I called back and spoke with a Patrice (I believe?) who was extremely kind and helpful and was able to take my contact information, and within the next hour or so received an international call from Karin to help with a refund for my original order.
As a gesture of their good will, Karin offered me a complementary box of eclairs delivered to my girlfriend that day, made arrangements with the hotel and everything, and really went out of her way to make sure this box would arrive there safely and in her hands this time.
Although I didn't personally try their eclairs, my gf's reaction when she received them was "Omg!!! They look out of this world!!!! (w/ 3 different emoji's here)" and "I'm on cloud 9!!!"...basically they were beyond amazing! From this experience, I can definitely say that I will be making time in my itinerary to stop there the next time I am in London to try them for myself now. :)
Thank you Karin and staff for everything that you did to turn this experience around for the better! What started out as a huge disappointment across the world ended up making both our days, and I will truly remember this place and all the extra help you offered me!
If you are reading this, please please please make a stop here and try some of their beautiful eclairs! It's businesses and people like this that deserve our support and our business! Thank you again for everything that you did!! You really made today a special day for both of us! :)

I love this place, bought eclairs for my friends and family and everyone loved it. Not for everyday if you don't have the budget, but great for a special occasion or as a little treat from time to time.
J. C.
Very small but lovely place with delicate looking desserts (both sweet and savory!) Also the staff are very patient and answered all my questions☺ Only two tables in the seating areas though.
L. A.
Amazing cakes but the South Ken cafe wasn't very cosy. Expected a beautiful setting but inside was very dull!
J. L.
Beautiful choux pastries and wonderful taste. Looks good and tastes good as well. Definitely worth the trip while in London.
B. C.
The display is amazingly colourful but éclairs cost more than £5 each ! They were tasty.
A. S.
A bit pricey but very good quality.
Better for takeaway as they only have 2 tables inside.
H.
Eclairs are nice, but not that nice - Paul's are fresher tasting and half the price. Maitre Choux are more for the gram.
A. A.
Pretty good but feels overpriced, I had a strawberry pistachio éclair and the strawberries on were stale and off. 5.80 for gone off strawberries is a bit 💔
V. L.
The raspberry eclair is exquisite! Will be back for more! However, there’s little room to seat!
Y. G.
Really good eclairs, but quite pricey. You can only pay by card. A must have place to visit.
K. A.
Worth each and every calorie!
D. V.
Clearly the best eclair I ate in my life. Usually I don't like eclair, except Eclair de Génie in France. But Maitre Choux makes the perfect eclair. Flavour, texture, taste,... everything is great. Love their chouettes too. The place is lovely and the staff very nice.
M. F. M. F.
While the looks are instaram-able, the taste doesn't match the prices paid for a short experience.
a. S.
Small, pretty place with instagramworthy and delicious at the same time desserts
K. C.
Best eclairs in London!
B. V.
Once in a while you come across one off artisan shop that will just make melt your heart and this is one of them! The eclairs look so beautiful that you just have to buy some. It is a work of art; a labour of love, a masterpiece of passion. Taste heavenly and looks stunning! What a shop!
M. G.
A lovely hidden place in South Kensington. Their hot chocolate is rich and thick and their choux pastry is to die for. I get a simple vanilla custard choux usually (reminds me of Japanese cream puff which is unavailable in the UK!). Happy to hear of so many new branches opening up.
L. P.
Maitre Choux offers an amazing selection of the most beautiful Choux pastries you have ever seen from eclairs, Choux buns and chouquettes. The eclairs are the star of the shop, each one beautiful decorated and lovingly lined up in the shop window to entice you in.
The pastries aren't cheap but they taste delicious and given the amount of time and detail that goes into each one they are worth it.
Get there early as they can fly off the shelves and you do not want to be disappointed.
S. L.
A little pricey and barely any seating but the food is a complete experience. Amazingly tasty!!!
A. R. K.
I. Love. This. Place. Yes, it's a bit expensive, but you can taste that they use fresh ingredients. The fruity éclairs really taste like fruit and not some artificial nonsense. The French staff are all lovely and helpful. There's a £5 chouquette and coffee deal if you're on a smaller budget.
N.
Visually, the eclairs are stunning. The flavors are also great. However, the choux pastry was far too dry. In fact, I would say my eclair tasted like it has been sitting out a bit too long. Disappointing. For the same price, I think I'd rather go to Pierre Marcolini, whose eclairs are always top notch.
T. B.
Good, but not worth the price paid. It gave the appearance of an abnormal accumulation of moisture in the dough. Absurd situation with 20% higher price when you decide to eat on the spot. Even you want to do so, there were only few places to sit at the table.
M. N.
This place is a Eclair paradise! The pastries are by far the best i've ever tried! They have so many awesome flavours! They just melt in your mouth! If you are in London, you MUST come and try :)!
T. G.
Stunning and well-crafted eclairs and choux by pastry chef Joakim Prat! The eclairs are light, not overly sweet and decadent at the same time. Although on the pricier side, you get what you paid for - high quality pastry items that have been crafted to perfection.
N. O.
Really good eclaris but careful it's pricey and they only take cards!
A. A. A.
Maitre Choux is located in South Kensington and specializes in doing eclairs of different flavors and decorations. Although the eclairs are good, I believe they are overpriced in comparison with other famous pastry shops which have an established brand equity with more than 50yrs in the business.
T. R.
We had seen this place on Instagram ages ago and had coveted the eclaires for quite some times. The only thing that stopped us from heading over was the fact that there was no other reason to go to South Ken at the time. For months we looked longly at pictures and today we finally made it there.
The shop itself is so pretty and with a case full of delicious eclaires and choux buns you are spoiled for choice. However, if you plan to sit in you should expect to be disappointed as there are only two tables there so you have to be lucky to find them empty. Luckily, despite being a group of four we managed to sit in. They have a quiet playlist on in the background but overall the atmosphere is just a bit... quiet. It isn't somewhere you would settle for long.
They serve Monmouth coffee but I don't think beverages are really their strong suit. But the eclaires are great. When you see how much work has gone into them... they're little masterpieces! I had the tahitian vanilla with hazlenut eclaire and a salt caramel choux bun and both were really delicious. They're really light so they're not too sickly.
On the whole I loved our visit and wish I could have tried more flavours but at £6 an eclaire this will definitely be a rare treat! I will just have to wait until I have a reason to visit South Ken again to try other flavours.
J. R.
Really good- really small shop. It is a bit on the pricier side but well worth it.
L.
From the window the Choux’s look absolutely stunning! You can really tell it has been thought about and made to look like that. The actual store was quite small so there was a bit of shuffling around and working out what you wanted and remembering the name of them. Of course it also came at a price with a box of four to take away came up to £21.10. It was pretty delicious but one doesn’t feel enough! Maybe that is just me and my big appetite.
A. K.
So gorgeous decor and the chou display was sensational. Although it looks like a lot of work has gone into decorating each Chou, the price of almost £6 per chou is excessive. The taste was good but the texture of the Chou was not fresh. At that price, I expected more
O. F.
Visually stunning, however doesn't compare to the eclairs of Paris. If my eyes were blindfolded I would never have guessed I was eating a coffee flavoured eclair, also the size was alot smaller than I was expecting for the price.
l. m.
Popped in to pick up a sweet treat for us. Was served by a very helpful girl. Bought two of the raspberry eclairs. Yummy, naughty. A lovely treat.
M. m.
Wow ! What an amazing surprise....they taste as good as they look. It is just unbelievable and so gorgeous. I'll treat myself more often from now on.
Perfect for birthday gift, my friends loved them.
Very nice staff who knew how to describe the flavours and helped me to choose the best box for me. I even had a chouquette to try!
I highly recommend this place. Modern, chic, cosy, best Choux pastry that I had for a looooooong time !!
Thank you Maitre Choux to exist !
M. G.
Tasty and pretty to look at but not much to eat. More about the art in this case.
C. N.
Pastry made in heaven … It’s not just food but colourful art meets Haute-Couture meets happiness wrapped in delicious light eclairs … These masterpiece come in a wide variety of exiting flavours and just one mouthful will be the start of a long lasting love story! A true paradise for your taste buds and a wonderful way to release endorphins for your spirit! The product is the star of the show, but the staff has that same trendy wow factor and the Clientele oozes cool... These are the cakes dreams are made of: so go ahead and indulge yourself :-)
E. L.
love the pumpkin edition during Halloween. def not just instagram worthy fancy pastry. if you must choose, pick pistachio & raspberry
E. K.
Very attentive & helpful staff! I highly recommend the Spanish raspberry pink eclair, which is almost too pretty to eat. The chocolate choux is also a must, which has a more interesting texture than the eclair.
T. P.
Really nice place and nice staff. However when I went there specifically last week (as google maps said it was open) it was closed which resulted in a wasted journey, wasted time and a very good friend without a gift. This happens all too often stores not updating online whether they’re open or not. :(
Z. N.
Love the eclairs even if they are not always fresh. But the staff is really so unprofessional. Anytime a deliveroo guy arrives both of the waiters are preparing for the order and completely forget about the customers they are queuing. It’s a lack of respect just because of a deliveroo order. Sorry but I can’t accept this anymore.
P. F.
This is one amazing pace, not only do the deserts taste heavenly they are also a visual delight Willi Wonka would be proud of. The owners have amazing drive and exquisite taste in making customers feel welcome. Jeremie is especially dedicated and is always jetting around the world looking for inspiration and new ingredients to sweeten his clients lives,
C. L.
Finally a real taste of french eclairs in London.
Shop is very cute, staff generous and attentive, chouquettes are the best I ve ever had, and of course the eclairs are amazing.
My fav: the Hazelnut, the coffee and the salted caramel choux
Will go again
N. A.
The Maitre Choux the best place to eat sweet there . I love the Tahitian Vanilla & Pecan Eclair & Caramel Eclair & Chouquettes.
The only not good they don't have enough table and you should take your order take away.
E. H.
The food looks amazing and tastes great too. The coffee is brilliant and the staff are nice. Expect to pay top dollar for simple pastries. You'd need a fortune to go here regularly.
S. A.
Very tasty little treat but very expensive!
R. M.
Great experience, everything I tried was made to perfection. The freshness of the products can be felt with the first bite. The presentation is simply exquisite. I was transported back to Paris! Well done and thank you for providing us a taste of divinity :-)
A. M.
The eclairs look absolutely beautiful, like little pieces of art, and they taste heavenly. My boyfriend and I got three eclairs each and we also got the five chouquettes plus hot drink deal. I chose the hot chocolate and it was hands down the best hot chocolate I've ever had. Coming from Switzerland, I've had lots of hot chocolate in my life! My boyfriend ended up stealing my hot chocolate so we went back and bought the chouqettes plus hot drink deal again. The chouquettes as well as the eclairs were absolutely perfect. I also like the box the eclairs came in. And I just cannot stop thinking about that hot chocolate!
M. L.
Delicious choux, very helpful staff explained everything, including new flavours coming next week.
Coffee is rich and delicious served in China cups, such a nice change of pace.
Highly recommended !
T. Z.
Saw the beautifully decorated choux on Instagram and this summer while I was on vacation in London, Maitre Choux was on top of my list. These choux are piece of art really and they taste delicious, I certainly didn’t feel that these were over priced but I was over charged by the pretentious server!
J. E.
Pretty small and pretty expensive, but also really tasty and beautifully presented. I can really see why they often sell out before closing time. If you can't get all the way here, I believe they've recently started selling in the Selfridges Food Hall too. Worth giving them a go.
k. W.
Not to sweet, light and great textures. The only down side is the cost, they are not cheap and can easily set you back £20 but a nice treat once in a while.
e. n.
Absolutely amazing eclairs and choux!!
I was blown away by the taste, the beauty and the freshness of the pastries!
It's a real art.
If you haven't been there yet, it's an ABSOLUTE MUST!
c. e.
Their chouquettes make for the best snacks! Buy 10 eat all
V. S.
I LOVE maitre choux. The eclairs are amazing and the choux is to die for. The only thing that could be improved is the coffee. i've had a few and sometimes they are delicious and sometimes disgusting. I think not everyone working there knows how to work the machine. If only they were always good I would go for coffee every day!
G. H.
Very cute place!!! The cakes are delicious but sooooo pricey. 😱
i. “.
We went to London for our honeymoon and this shop was very close to our hotel, Absolutely fantastic shop! Customer service was excellent and the Choux was equally excellent. We rave about this place to anyone who will listen
K. N.
A bit on the pricey side for what you get, but the staff are amazing, the pastries are good enough and the tea and coffee are great accompaniments too. If you’re in the area, you can try it for yourself. Otherwise, not something to travel for or write home about.
G. U.
Beautiful eclairs and good selection. Taste wise, a bit hit and miss - Ie some delicious and some are very average tasting. Consistency is not there.
S. i. A.
The eclairs are delectable as well as gorgeous. My two favourites are the pistachio and the praliné. A bit overpriced given the size, even by London standards.
s. l.
Five stars overall! Pretty to look at, taste to die for! Well done on bringing us such a great guilty pleasure! Trying to avoid sugar in general, but maitre Choux is the only treat I'm looking forward to have when I can, never a dull moment with the new flavours and the fun fact that we can have it at chirlten!
C. P.
How anyone gives this place less than 5 stars, I don't know.
Yes, it's delicious. Yes, it's overpriced. Is it worth it? Every single pence.
A. J.
Beautiful, delicious but bit overpriced eclairs.
E. W.
Amazing choux pastry shop. Eclairs to die for! Some.many flavours and beautifully decorated. Not cheap but we'll worth it!
B. M.
Hi Joachim,
You don't know me, but your friend (from the U.S.) stayed with me when he visited for the opening of your shop. He brought some samples back with him, and offered some to me.
You are an artist, and an amazing chef. I will certainly be visiting you as a customer, and can't recommend you highly enough.
A. K.

My absolute favourite desert in the world - their plain tiny choux balls. Always amazing. Would eat them day and night.

Highly recommend this placpl, those eclairs are to die for, good customer service..you can even sit down and have a very tasty coffee accompanied with fabulous eclairs
D. F. W.
I came for the amazing assortment of eclairs, but I didn't for a moment expect that if also be blown away by the world class coffee they had here.
A.
I suddenly realised it was the Joakim Prat who passed me the choux 2mins after I left Maitre Choux. I was so regret that I didn't have a proper chat with him this brilliant pastry master. The Choux is absolutely unrivalled. Absolutely indulged!
A. E.
Location and taste is amazing.
Δ.
wow
high price but worth any penny ..
C. O.
Monmouth coffee and the best pastries in London.
H. T.

(Translated) Very good lightning, relatively rare in London. An excellent taste, similar to Éclairs de Génie in Paris. The prices are rather high (about € 6.50 per flash), which will not be suitable for all purses. However if you are amateur, I highly recommend it!

(Translated) In the trend of pastries mono product Paris but this time it combines the lightning genius with the house of cabbages.
It is good and very well controlled in a delicious setting is perhaps a little too "candy box" in terms of color and too sweet in the tastes.
Really close to 5 stars by working beautiful products.
