Reviews of Sourdough Sophia
A. V.
Where to start?
-Queue is never an issue, they know how to manage it very well
-The products are freshly baked every day, brownies and cookies have a good shelf life. Bought them several times to snack when traveling.
-Bread selection is wide and it easily lasts for 4 days. It also freezes very good. Their Oat bread is our favourite.
-Pastries and cakes are the reason to wake up early in the morning. Almond croissants are the most filled you'll ever find in the Country (no joke!), Cruffins are the best thing to eat, followed by the baked cheesecake. Also the Christmas treats were incredible!
-Coffee is consistently good and they take it as seriously as a specialty coffee shop.
-Customer service is something you won't find anywhere else. They're warm and welcoming all the time. They go the extra mile for you without effort. Baking team is very passionate about their work and happy to talk about their products and give you tips for baking.
If you read it this far, don't believe much the lower reviews. People just exaggerate things and look for attention, seen it many times while waiting my turn to be served.

Today my sweet friend sent me to pick up a package she ordered for me, from her friends over at Sourdough Sophia. It was quite a trek away from where I live, but these sourdough yummies were 100% worth the trip! From what I’ve read about the bakery, they’re quite serious about perfecting their craft (they tweak and tweak to perfection) and it shows— every one of these was a delightful treat, down to the last crumb. I’ll be back for sure! 🤍

One of the nicest bakeries in the area! We've tried bread, cruffins, Donats and croissant loaves. All freshly made and delicious!! A must-visit if you are in the area!

Finally made it to this delightful little bakery in Crouch End. I have been following Sophia on IG and have been wanting to come and try her products for over year. Covid, a move to Devon and a 4 month trip to Canada delayed me but boy am I glad that at long last we made it. From IG you can tell how Sophia is very passionate about her sourdough and it clearly shows in the mouthwatering treats you can sample at her bakery. My husband had the chocolate babka with a wonderful coffee ☕ and I had a fantastic earl grey tea 🫖 with their famed cinnamon cruffin. I can’t say enough about them but wish I had one now - so delicious!! As we were travelling back to Devon by train we could only carry so much - a couple of loaves of sourdough 🥖- the best I have had, a couple of cruffins 🧁- wish I had bought more, the most delicious croissants 🥐 this side of Paris which we gobbled up on the train and a really tasty panettone 😋. As an Italian and as a lover of panettone , I can tell you this was way too good! I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the lovely, friendly staff - thanks to the young man who recommended the Earl Grey as it was delicious. I highly recommend you visit and enjoy - you will not regret it. The only complaint I have is that they are regrettably too far from Dartmouth so I will not be able to visit as much as I would want. I am begging though that they set up monthly subscriptions so I can get my fix delivered to me but the best thing would be for Sophia to set up a satellite shop in Dartmouth - pretty please! 🤞🤞🤞

I go to Sourdough Sophia regularly, their coffee is lovely and the cruffins are incredible! Staff are great, if there's a big queue they come out and grab your coffee order to speed things up and even occasionally bring you samples. For Christmas I pre ordered the ruby chocolate and pistachio panettone and it did not disappoint! Beautifully presented and so tasty 🥰
C. B.
My absolute favourite bakery in London. Doesn't matter what you get, it will taste incredibly good. The focaccia is amazing. Make sure to visit on a Sunday to try the brunch!!
K. S.
Great bread and pastries and the customer service is 5* too ! Thank you lovely people at “ Sourdough Sophia “ !
K. D.
Simply the best. Quality is amazing and service is top notch, and I mean top notch! Always smiling, always pleasant even in the busiest of times. My wife and I look forward to visiting here at least once a week. However the bread is usually eaten up by the second day, so we find ourselves regularly queuing up during the week. If you haven’t been here yet you won’t go wrong with anything you pick, however i recommend going for the porridge loaf - its textures are like nothing you’ve ever had - simply amazing!
H. S.
It is always an absolute pleasure to visit the Sourdough Sophia bakery! The staff are always attentive, friendly and helpful! The breads, pastries and selection of sandwiches, are beautifully displayed - always very tempting and the coffee is delicious! Definitely worth a visit!!
E. R.
My favourite bakery! The people working here are so friendly and lovely. Literally the best pastries I've had in London, definitely try the passion fruit cruffin and their incredible sandwiches!
S. K.
Best cruffins. Cookies weren’t as good as the cruffins but go for the cruffins alone. Also no queue when I went on a Saturday afternoon and still some choice.
B. I.
All I can say is it’s worth it. Worth the 45 min walk, with the wait, worth it all. I happily fill up my bakery cards when I visit here!! Absolutely LOVE this bakery. French onion danish is a must have as well as the babka cruffin. Swoon.
J. M.
I am a chef, I wanted to expand my bakery knowledge, so Sophia was kind enough to let me come and work with them for 2 days in the bakery. Everyone is so knowledgeable, kind and helpful. I did learn a lot and didn’t want to leave.
Everything they bake and prepare at the shop is top quality and delicious. 100% recommend!
I. S.
The pastries they have at the front are DIVINE!! the best pastries I've ever had, especially the cinnamon one. However their mince pies and pannetone were really disappointing, I couldn't actually finish more than a bite of each :(. Seems to be a bit hit and miss
M. A.
Extraordinary bakery. Everything is awesome, no exclusions! The bakes, the atmosphere, and the people. Your missing a lot if you haven’t been there! Thanks Sophia!
י. ב. ש.
Perfect Bakery! Kind workers and fresh stuff keep coming out constantly! Must have a visit!!💕🤍
R. A.
Honestly, the most delicious almond croissant!! Staff are really lovely. Can’t wait to be back to try more!
A. V.
It's always a pleasure going to Sourdough Sophia. The produce is baked to an excellent standard, the staff are friendly and helpful; and the general atmosphere is more than inviting. Also, they legitimately have the best green tea I've ever tasted!
S. G.
Their sourdough bread, pizza, pastries and… basically all their products are amazing. I really enjoy the olive sourdough loaf with a nice olive oil, next level. Definitely my go to bakery in London. Real bread 💚
o.
Absolutely amazing bakery!! Have been a few times now, travelling over an hour to get there, and have never been disappointed. Best bakery I've ever been to hands down
G. S.
Super friendly. They donated so many mince pies and stollen for the Union Church Christmas meal delivery, very generous.
Not cheap but nothing worthwhile is
S. O.
If you try their cruffins, you will want to visit again and again and again... great oat flat white and 5-star service!
I. F.
This place rocks! Jesse and Sophia have created a haven that produces some of the best bread and pastries to be found in the country. The sourdough loaves are next level and the team are rockstars. Make a trip you won’t regret it!
i. s.
Delicious bakery, with plenty of amazing products! My favorites are the chocolate babka (See pic) and the seeded loaf. I recommend to book online to skip the long queue that usually builds up.
L.
Went for Sunday lunch. Sat outside in the sun and we had the most delicious French toast and croque monsieur followed by excellent coffee and pastries. Highly recommend! Only wish there were more tables.
A. B.
Delicious bread 🍞 the almond croissants was amazing 👏 the bakery is brilliant with big variety of food and coffee ☕
N. S.
The best bread in London! Delicious and innovative pastries. We are all obsessed with the passion fruit cruffin. Lovely staff too.
J. H.
Best croissants in London. Wonderful Christmas panettone. Can't fault anything that comes out of the ovens here!
L. L.
Incredible pastries and sourdough bread! Lovely & friendly service too. A must try.
V. A.
I know there’s a hype for this place. I think mostly because they are the only ones offering something a bit more hybrid/hipster in terms of flavours in the area. Dunns is old school traditional, while here you can see they are actually trying to be innovative. However some products can do with a bit of improvement- like the focaccia. It should not be so high, and when I tasted it it was not soft but chewy. Cruffins are OK - albeit I admit the passion fruit custard is amazing - but the cruffin per se it’s OK. Coffee is nice and the service is very friendly. If in the area, and keen on trying, then go ahead. Not worth a trip from Central London thou.
A. M.
Probably one of the best bakeries in London. Delicious food, lovely staff, reasonably priced.
S. B.
I mean. It’s incredible! The bakery is a dream and I spent so much feeding everyone at my work. The cruffins are to die for. The staff were all lovely and chatty but were totally on the ball as there was growing queue onto the street outside. That’s when you know it’s good!
C. C.
Absolutely fantastic bakery. As a Frenchie, I can say it’s the only place in Crouch End where you’ll get a true baguette. Well done to Sophia and her team for achieving such a successful business. I personally love the fact that you’re keeping your clientele engaged by trying out new flavours/toppings/fillings everyday. It’s little details like these that make a bakery go from great to excellent. Would HIGHLY recommend.
J. P.
Best pastries and sourdough in London. I love coming back here, I really hope you open more locations!
M. L.
Amazing sourdough bread, focaccia, baked goods, sandwiches and coffee. They innovate and offer new and super tasty things on a regular basis so there's always a reason to go back! One of the best bakeries I have been, if not the best, and they are super nice too which is what you'd want from any business and so odd to find these days, but is what makes the difference! I Good job, keep it up and never change! (Except the innovative side of the food, of course!)
G. W.
I've just had a passionfruit curd cruffin from here and it's the best thing I've eaten in my life, not good for the waistline but very good for the tastebuds, be careful if you buy one it may result in addiction.
M. Z.
Really impressive selection of baked goods. I only bought the titled sourdough bread. It was worth queuing up, for sure. Would reccomend.
L.
Best sourdough bread in London. Croissants and cruffins... heavenly scrumptious... please move to Harrow!
I. G.
OMG this place is everything...It is heaven on earth, I can't express how much I love this place and everything they make is suuuper delicious.
P. S. Staff is friendly, adorable, fantastic, brilliant and the list goes on ❤️
K. H.
Best croissant and baguette I have eaten since I moved out from Paris! Love how creative this place is.
S.
Amazing pastries - especially the warm almond croissant - probably the best I had - ever! Great coffee too.
Yet to taste the sourdough but looking forward to it.
One niggle : why why why are you closed on Sunday???
F. W.
Absolutely incredible bakery , not cheap but the best sourdough, almond croissants and cheese cake in London.
B. O.
Fabulous bread and croissants. Nice, helpful staff. Thoughtful organisation: I was impressed by the way they manage the queue and prevent coffee orders from creating a log-jam.
The sourdough is flavourful, with a good texture - and, by contrast with a famous artisanal bakery, the slices are not as much hole as bread.
J. M.
Found these guys on the home cooks website - really amazing food and delivered right to your door! keep supporting local.
D. E.
Anyone who values fantastic bread has found their heaven with Sourdough Sophia! BEST bread and pastries you will find. If you have followed Sophia's journey you know her expertise, experience and dedication. This really shows in this lovely new bakery and anything her team and she bake. But don't take my word for it and stop by to check it out yourself. You will not be disappointed. Thanks again Sophia for the great service and sourdough bread.
R. P.
My new favourite in Crouch End, wonderful service and the sourdough and sweet treats are worth my long walk to Crouch End!
L. T.
Wonderful selection of breads - we had the beetroot and potato focaccia and the olive sourdough and both were delicious. Really friendly & lovely staff too. And great coffee! Lovely bakery - planning to return again soon!
R. R.
The best croissant and sausage roll I think I have ever had (and I've had a lot!) and the cinnamon cruffin is quite possibly the best thing I've ever eaten. I'd happily eat 5. I've yet to try the bread but I will do very soon (I have high hopes).
So glad this great new bakery has opened in Crouch End!
O. L.
I am OBSESSED with Sourdough Sophia. I happily join that queue down the street on a Friday or Saturday lunchtime, determined to get in in time for a great sandwich and a cronut. Inventive with flavours, friendly with service. Generous with loyalty card stamps! I used to live right round the corner, and I'm glad I don't anymore or I'd have no money left from going every day. Queen of Crouch End, I love it here.
R. R.
Best bread I've had in years! If you have to queue, it's worth the wait.
As a French person who has also worked in a bakery in France, I know I'm a pain as I'm picky : trust me, I'm not going anywhere else for bread or pastries anymore. THIS IS IT.
I've tried delivery, pickup & just going to the shop, every time the products & service have been impeccable!
Going to regret this review if it gets too popular & sells out before I can get anything...
A.
Excellent bakery.....products go way beyond any expectation......panettone was A M A Z I N G!!!
D. O.
We had the baguettes and rye loaf which were absolutely amazing. Great quality and delicious. The best sourdough I have ever had! Also purchased the book which I am really enjoying and is really well written and structured.
K. G.
Worth the long walk to the bakery. Wide range of bread, as well as pastries (look and taste good). The bakery has an amazing smell coming from the freshly baked goods.
Friendly staff (smart casual attitude), fast service.
Will visit again!
a. v.
I work just down the road and love coming for my morning coffee! Gives you the perfect caffeine fix for the day, also excellent food all round
T. S.
Always a treat to come here! Come for the bread, but don’t miss out on the French Onion Soup pastry for the journey home 😊
Delicious goods, friends staff, worth the queue.
B. S.
Such an amazing bakery!! Sourdough Sophia oozes quality. How wonderful to have such a gem of a place open up in Crouch End. Their sourdough bread is simply to die for, the pastries are scrumptious and the coffee is heavenly. Highly recommend.
c. v.
over priced but tasty just wish they could warm up the pizza and also put more cheese on it as there was hardly any.
R. s.
This Sourdough Bakery is a wonderful new surprise, and a high quality addition to the neighbourhood! 5 stars for sure! Everything looks, feels, smells, amazing - you can see the actual baking going on at the back, and there is a wide choice of delicious fare at the front. Attentive, friendly and efficient staff; it was such a pleasure to go in and get something. Very satisfying ... The word will spread quickly!
M. H.
I've been here several times over the last few months, everything has been fantastic. One of the best breads in London. Well worth the wait if you do encounter a queue.
z. c.
Love this place and clearly so does everyone else! Sophia is a genius! Their pizza is outstanding. Also love the pretzels and the panzanella. So glad this place is nearby!
M. S.
Outstanding produce -- including a very special Stollen cake.
R. F.
Delicious sandwiches! I love the cinnamon roll. Absolutely a lovely place to grab some food at anytime
F. O.
Best sourdough I've found in London, and such nice and principled owners too - they pay their staff a living wage, take care in sourcing ingredients and are friendly & helpful even at the busiest times. (NB. I've no link to the business other than being a very happy customer!)
A. J.
Shame they don't have more than one paypoint so more than one member of staff can serve. Had to wait ages just to get a loaf of bread while someone was being served with loads of salad and other orders.
D. B.
The cruffin is the best pastry I've had in years!
C. W.
Great new bakery. You HAVE to try the sausage rolls as they are delicious! We had an s.roll, pain aux raisin and a cappuccino. All served by friendly staff.
J. S.
Easily the best bread and pastries I’ve ever eaten.
Everything is made fresh in the bakery and you can see it all happening behind the counter. Sophia is clearly a master of her craft. Go check it out!
L. A.
the most incredible sourdough bread you'll ever try. Soft, squidgy, it almost melts in the mouth! we've been every Saturday for the past month now and it makes every week bearable! I finally got my hands on a cruffin today (they usually sell out way earlier) but with it being valentines weekend, there were special limited edition ones! It was raspberry with a white chocolate ganache and I don't exaggerate when I say it was one of the best things i've ever eaten. I actually can't stop thinking about it! AMAZING selection, really kind and friendly staff who seem genuinely passionate and excited about each product! Definitely worth the queue ;) give it a try!
J. D.
Genuinely the best sourdough I have ever had. I absolutely love the service they offer and most importantly the cruffins are out of this world! I can’t wait until we can actually sit in after everything is back to normal
A. B.
A great new opening in Crouch End. Such amazing croissants and lovely coffee. I can’t wait to try more of their delicious items. Everyone in the shop was so friendly too.
A. M.
Very busy little cafe. The coffee is decent but not the reason to visit. The bread and pastries are clearly the star attraction and you should definitely visit to buy that
T. A.
Sophia's bread is amazing, highly recommended. Great story as well - started baking in her flat during lockdown now on the Crouch End high st!

Delectable. Really should stop telling everyone about this place so I can have it to myself but I can’t help it.

Good selection, covid friendly, but a little pricey! They take your order while you queue outside to keep things moving
S. F.

I was worried this shop wouldn't live up to the hype (and very long Saturday queue), but i have to reluctantly accept that all the products I bought were very good.

Gorgeous bakery with equally pretty and mouthwatering treats! I did not have to wait at all at around 11am on a Sunday morning, and the staff were very nice and helpful. I had the sausage roll, cheese pretzel, chocolate pecan croissant, and the chocolate babka, and they were all divine. Sourdough Sophia is most definitely one of the must-visit bakeries in London 👏🏼
