It's a shame the shop front has gone and the direct customer experience removed. Knocking on a door hidden round the back to collect my cake isn't the same. I ordered a dozen photo cupcakes for a child's 12th birthday via their website. An email checking on progress went unanswered so I called to confirm collection time. I've ordered a few times from them before and the standard seemed to be about the same as before. The all important sponge was still on point and the photos on top were clear and well applied. Happy children, happy Dad.

I came across the cake store by chance and we ordered the construction site/digger cake for my son's 3rd birthday. It came packaged so well, it was easy to do the last few assembly bits and it looked amazing. It also tasted incredible! We were really pleased with everything and will definitely be using them again in the future.

Happily Ever After Cake Ordered a 10” round cake for our Happily Ever After Party on 1/10/21, the cake looked great and tasted fantastic. It was delivered on time, well packaged to the hotel, the design was simple but personalised and elegant. We choose lemon for the flavour and it was divine. Not artificial tasting but nice and tangy, the sponge was light and fluffy and kept well. However it didn’t last very long because all our guests went back for seconds. I would definitely recommend the Cake Store and will be ordering from here again.

Toy Story Success! My daughter turned 3 and wanted a Toy Story cake. After researching the internet a lot, I found a 2 tier. I went for 1 tier Victoria sponge and the other red velvet. I was worried about them being dry, I wasn't counting on taste when I ordered, but actually it was delicious, even the icing was soft. The little toppers are lovely keepsake toys. Highly recommended!

Brilliant Cakes express delivered us a beautiful gift box on time which featured a hand-tied ribbon. Inside was our corporate birthday cake – exactly as we had ordered. The cake was delicious – a moist chocolate sponge with light chocolate buttercream and covered in lovely icing. It was very well made and enjoyed by many colleagues. We ordered the rainbow cake with chocolate sponge - was beautifully presented and the sponge was moist and tasted fresh (even though we ate it the day after delivery). It's not cheap, but then you did get a product that feels premium, so good value. You also get a card inside with the full ingredient lists for the sponge and the icing, along with nutritional information. That's another nice touch, so you know what you're eating and particularly helpful for those with intolerances and allergies. Will definitely buy again.

I ordered 4 cakes (4 letters of name) for my sons 3rd birthday. 3 different fillings. Vanilla, chocolate and red velvet. No wonder why this company has been around for decades, my God one was better than the other. I loved the colours (icing) and the decorations of the cakes, exactly what I had ordered and had described. All my guests loved the taste and the whole presentation. I have ordered at nearly all of London’s top baker’s and they’ve been good but The cake store play at a whole different level. Been buying birthday cakes (several types), for over the last 15 years from these folk, including 2020. Never once have they got spellings wrong nor not fulfilled my order. I was dubious about purchasing this year but glad I went ahead. The quality, taste and decoration is always great, yum and lovely! Their prices have changed, and in the case of the cake I usually get doubled. But for that they are now offering free delivery, which was not the case before for purchases within the M25, and if my purchase helps keep them going then I am doubly happy I paid. The cake was also packed perfectly so that no movement in transit could ruin it, and they've managed to find a reliable delivery organisation too! Everyone in my family luvs these cakes - from the fussiest, to those with allergies.

Good cakes but.....The cake was very nice but unfortunately it wasn't delivered on time and was delivered a day later which meant me buying another cake in case it didn't turn up on time for my daughters birthday. I had to chase the courier a couple of times and was told by the cake company that it would be delivered before midday but it wasn't. Upon further investigation the company on companies House is dissolved so that worried me. Saying that, the cake was lovely and looked and tasted good too so thank you but I would be reluctant to order again.

Ordered 24 cupcakes for a birthday party. The presentation was good overall but a few of the cake toppers had slid off and onto other cakes, ruining the overall effect. The cakes tasted nice, moist, not too sweet, and the only thing missing was a bit more jam. However, the customer service we received was not good. We phoned on the morning of delivery to ask when the cakes would be with us. We were told 12-2. Great. We planned our day around this. 2pm came. No cakes. 3pm still no cakes. At 3.45 we called and were told they couldn't guarantee time of delivery beyond the fact they'd be with us before 8pm. Fine, but why tell us that they'd be with us between 12-2?? The staff were rude and would not see our point of view. They couldn't seem to communicate with the delivery team and blamed them, without offering a solution or apology. In the end we had to head out and ask a neighbour nicely to look out for the cakes. They arrived with no note through our door about who they'd been left with or when they arrived and we received no follow up call from the shop. A real shame as the cakes were good but the service leaves a lot to be desired.

After about 10years of getting cakes from these guys, I think it's time to try elsewhere. Designs are still lovely but there's less cake in their cakes and too much icing. I ordered two cakes for my son's birthday recently. A two tier round cake and a figure 1 cake. The cakes were ultra tin layers of cake in a mishmash and you just have to wonder if cakes are baked in some large industrial tin and patched together in some messy Frankenstein manner as round cakes did not even have even layers. I went to a friend's daughter's birthday a week later and the quality of the cake design and actual cake at a better price drove home to me what a waste it had been to have been loyal to the Cake store. So given how many cake makers are out there with amazing designs too, The Cake store is no longer worth the spend.

CAKES EXACTLY AS THEY SHOULD BE! I see some negative reviews, very few and I'm sure they must be talking about somewhere else! This store provides the best cakes and the best ever customer service. They did a perfect cake for my daughter's birthday literally two days before her birthday after another store completely screwed us over. Delicious and perfect in every way. Highly recommend them!

3/11/20 - update Since the onset of the Pandemic, this shop has closed its cake store on Sydenham High Street. However the good news is that they are still making cakes for delivery, we are talking cakes of the large celebration variety not one or two jam doughnuts! You can place your order via their website to get your bespoke cake delivered to your door. I have been using this Cake Store for many years and feel fortunate to have it so close to home. I believe the goods are cooked on site as they are often still hot when bought. They do a very impressive range of cakes / gateux for special celebrations and I have had many of these over the years delivery available if required . Some of the more elaborate cakes are quite costly but there is nowhere else in SE London that can provide such beautiful and memorable goodies. Really highly recommended

This is a traditional cake shop of the old school, wonderful hand made celebration cakes made to order. Mouth watering cakes, pastries and savouries hot and cold. However, having tried a selection of their offerings I do think that sometimes the things look much better than they taste and they are not particularly cheap. It really is hard to find quality with price in this day and age, pity!!

I recently ordered a simple birthday cake for my aunty's 70th. I gave the order on Thursday afternoon to collect by Saturday. The cake was beautiful and tasted AMAZING! Also, they have very good delivery service so when I feel lazy or I have guests I just order in. Until now I have never receive a cake not in a good condition which is impressive!

Some people write malicious reviews, could they be competition or just purposefully have nothing better too do than bad mouth a experienced well establish bakery. I've brought cakes from this store for all of my beloved sons birthdays (each and everyone same standards, excellently made and with care and consideration) not anyone of the cakes in the last seven years have ever resembelled anything to what some of the handful of poor sad (doubt genuine) reviewers are. Several times I have gone to pick up the cakes and whilst i have waited picked up some food from the clean and immaculate shop, never a server without gloves. Astounded at the poor clearly untrue reviews that are here and at a handful, I would seriously not trust these few people. Everytime family and friends are amazed at how beautiful and the details and the texture and quality of the cake is made. The cake store is not only a high end bakery but a pleasent store with great friendly servers who have always gone out of their way to help serve me (each and every time i have gone to the immaculately clean bakery with amazing sausage rolls and cakes!) Some people have nothing better to do than write fake reviews (Shame on you people!) I will continue to buy my sons birthday and family members cakes because they are reliable and professional. Thank you cake store and I wish you continued success in what you achieve and create!

The Cake Shop is a proper British bakery with all the treats and delights you would expect from Coronation Chicken to a proper fruit tart. I love this place. Great place love they're donuts, sjame thet don't do apple stuffed donuts any more though used to luv them when I was a kid in Sydenham. Been Closed since 20th March 2020 because of the worldwide Covid-19 alert, not sure if they ate doing cakes to order ?

Used to get my birthday cakes from Patisserie Valerie. But now getting it from this shop. Taste excellent. Perfect for young and old given that their sugar level is minimal. Value - probably around £20 less than P.Valerie like for like for a 110" gateaux. Service - great. Final add on - cakes are of very high quality. True, for the gateaux - you don't get kiwi fruit, star fruit etc which u get from P.Valerie cakes. But then gain P.VAlerie only put a few slices - certainly doesnt jusitfy the price tag! Great cake shop overall

I'm live in the USA and was in London visiting my friend. We took a walk and I saw The Cake Store. Its very appealing from the outside. How could you not go inside. Of course we did and I was pleasantly surprised to see such a nice selection and how nicely displayed everything was.. I let my friend order because I don't think they understood my strange American Accent. lol We got some donuts and pastries and then walked to the Sydenham Train Station. I don't know about the cakes, but I thought the sandwiches here were pretty nice and good value for money, and oh boy the cheesy bacon puffs are delicious. The service is pretty slow, but it's never that busy and they're all very nice, it's more endearing than frustrating.
