Reviews of The Dusty Knuckle Bakery

Recommend to come here early. The pastries are sold out quickly!
I had to come again another day since my first visit was quite late, and it was definitely worth it!
The lentil&pumpkin soup was really delicious, especially with their breads! I highly recommend it. Morning bun was good also.
Plus the staffs are so nice and friendly! Had a pleasant time here☺️

Best bakery in London. Rapidly changing menu with various goodies such as toasties, sausage rolls, heaps of cinamon treats. Incredible coffee too, very consistent quality. Would recommend any day of the week, especially when you're a bit dusty post gig. Get in early to beat the lines and get the best seats in the courtyard!

Eclectic bakery and cafe tucked away off of Dalston’s High Street. We’ve visited here multiple times and can’t get enough. Most recently, we ordered the vegan Christmas sammie and it did not disappoint!

I decided to travel from London fro trying this bakery. The trip was completely worthy. I tried the pain au chocolate and a pastry with feta and honey. Both delicious. You can see and taste definitely a quality of the products and their ingredients. Entering on this shop and seeing the counter full of good staff, it is a very warm welcome. Highly recommended.

Oh my………!!!!!!!!!!
That Porchetta Sandwich is beyond anything I’ve ever tried. Truly the greatest sandwich I’ve had. I couldn’t believe it. The chewy but soft Focaccia with the tender and crispy Porchetta… the cress, aioli, sweet onions too - my lord. Not to mention the little bits of crackling to top it off. I’m obsessed and cannot wait to go back. What a sandwich!
j. m.
Best sourdough in London (I think - haven’t tried EVERY loaf in town but I’m pretty confident in my claim!)
The breakfast egg bun with sweet chilli jam is ridiculously extra for an egg bap (only time I eat coriander at breakfast).
Sandwiches served hot are so well thought out. Quality ingredients with creative interesting combinations of flavours. Huge amounts of filling and thick wedges of their tasty sourdough. Faultless.
Salads are insanely delicious for salad. Interesting added ingredients and beautifully grown fresh leaves that taste like they’ve just been picked after being lovingly grown organically.
Thoughtful selection of drinks and their coffee is consistently perfect. Been a customer for years. And if all that wasn’t enough - it’s a social enterprise to boot.
Travel here wherever you live - you won’t be disappointed.

Was lucky enough to get the truck in my local area! Honestly these pastries are amazing. The sandwich may seem like odd combinations but it works perfectly! The morning roll pastry dusted with the sugar was the best I have tasted, its flaky, soft and buttery. The honey and feta roll again phenomenal. Definitely visit the shop/truck its worth it.

If you’re gonna spend £10 on a sandwich do it here. There’s a lot of goodness behind the dusty knuckle not just in the bakes but in their ethos. I melted at their chocolate cookie. Just watch out as it’s popular and very much on the radar so it’s risky visiting after midday - they’d sold out of all but one cookie on our last visit. It’s also a touch trendy and more functional than comfortable so you don’t feel like you can truly put your feet up. But it’s a must if you’re in Dalston.

The Dusty Knuckle quickly became one of our favourite cafes in London. Absolutely delicious food. Great coffee. Good vibes :)
A. F.
Friendly people fantastic bread and cakes. I have to get the timing right right to be able to try the sandwiches but in the meantime try the potatoe sourdough and the cinnamon breakfast buns. One day I will have a job that allows me to have breakfast here..as the coffee looks good too.
J. S.
One of the best breads in London. Their sourdough potato is brilliant!
The place is quite hidden and a bit too cold in winter but their products definitely worth it.
C. P.
Amazing pastries and excellent coffee . We had to queue but it was worth the wait . We even got free focaccia as we had been eying it up !!
S. G.
One of my top places in London to get a sandwich. The focaccia is amazing and the fillings are always so tasty!!!
M. N.
Lovely outdoor space, uncovered, lots of herbs and other things being grown. Super busy at weekend and for good reason. Incredible breads and pastries. We had the BLT and breakfast focaccia which were stunning. Great coffee too.
Y. H.
The bread and pastry are so good.
Nice place to spend lunch time with friends.
Z. O.
Pastries were good, but not amazing. The orange and poppy seed pastry was the best, the feta and honey pastra was the second best, the cinnamon pastry was disappointing as it lacked flavour (needs a lot more cinnamon).
Given that they only sell a few items and they define themselves as a specialist bakery, I was expecting to be wowed but it wasn't the case.
The plain sourdough was impressive; nice spring, good crust, perfect balance of sourness. Would've been absolutely perfect if it was cooked for 3-5 mins longer as the inside was slightly moist.
Coffees were perfect and they offer various plant based milks.
Would I go back? Yes, but only if I was more local.
The staff were very friendly and helpful
C. K.
Delicious croissant and decent coffee. Fair prices.
F. O.
Location on streetview is outdated, you need to go past the entrance of Kingland's car park, at the end of Abbot St. They ran out of sausage rolls at 12.30 and I was told no more would come, frankly pretty odd, or to push the veggie rolls that nobody bought. £3 for the fruit custard pastry, tasted fresh but pricey, not worth the detour from central London.
F. G.
Opening time needs updating I thought it’s open at 9am but turns out it’s open at 8am. I reached around 9.15am and there was a queue already. The queue was even longer when I left the shop. A must try orange and poppy seed swirl one of the bakery classic. Don’t see much of this kind pastry in other bakery stores before. The cafe does look cosy and definitely great hang out place on a nice summer without any Covid restrictions. Would definitely come back in the future when things get better.
D. M.
Laid back and buzzing atmosphere and outstanding quality of ingredients. The bread is the best I’ve ever had and fairly priced. Evening meal there was fantastic; informal, delicious food and lovely people serving. Not the cheapest in the area but something different and a real treat.
T. F.
Nice place to buy. Outside eating space is definitely cool and very 'urban'. Potato sourdough is well worth the weekend queue. The patisserie stuff is excellent... However, 9 quid for a cabbage sandwich, albeit a delightful cabbage sandwich, is a bit steep...
K. P.
There is a reason why you have to pre-order sandwiches and queue for ages for pastries and bread from this tucked away bakery off Kingsland Road - it’s different gear.
The harissa chicken sandwich was delicious, the focaccia bread is second to nine. Stuffed with fresh and juicy chicken, spicy but flavoursome harissa, salad and sauce, you honestly can’t fault it. We had a selection of pastries: the feta, honey and sesame pinwheel was outrageously good. It reminded me of the thick Greek bread I was brought up on but in light pastry form.
Good coffee too.
O. L. M.
The DK never disappoints! We came today and it was near sold out, we took what was left and it was EXQUISITE! We shared a sausage roll, a Vada Pav sandwich and a leek and cheese toastie with coffees. All eaten while so focused on our pleasure that we forgot to photograph them. You'll have to go to try and see for yourself.
J. S.
Phenomenal veggie sandwich. I had the Roasted cauliflower, date and tamarind sauce, pumpkin tahini and green sauce. I ate the whole thing in a heartbeat. A 44-minute transport ride from Lewisham and I would gladly go again.
L. G.
Excellent hidden gem.
There is a little bakery at the end of a one way street where you can find an absolutely fantastic set of pastries, breakfast items, fresh juices, sandwiches and so on.
You can also enjoy these delicacies there in the sun on the terrace relaxing in a quiet area.
Finally, if you want to learn more about baking, they also offer workshops you can take part in!
This place is a great surprise!
C. W.
Don’t come too late. It’s so good, they often get sold out early !
U. Z. S.
X mas sandwich and Feta honey pastry is great !
S. M.
Excellent coffee, delicious pastries and bread. Beautiful, tasty and filling lunches. Lovely staff. Plenty of tables including outside under cover. One of my favourite places in the world!
C. S.
A sandwiches like you've never had them before! So much love and passion goes into making their food. Everyone who works here is lovely and I am so grateful for the effort they always make to make vegan dishes for me. I'd highly recommend!
M. M.
The Dusty Knuckle makes some of the best sandwiches I've ever had. Honestly, their bread is out of this world. Also, Harvey, John and the team provide some of the best hospitality in the business and I've actually considered trekking across London just for their sandwiches and pizzas/ excellent banter. Really good guys and phenomenonal food. Seriously, you won't regret it.
S. O.
Delighted I came here for lunch today. I saw a photo of the sandwiches on Instagram and hopped straight on the bus! It's not the easiest place to find, and you will think you're going the wrong way until you get there, but the space is wonderful. There is plenty of seating, both outdoor and indoor, and it is child and dog friendly.
I ordered the mozzarella sandwich and the ribolata. In hindsight it might have been a bit too much food, but I regret nothing! The sandwich had fantastic flavour and the ingredients were very high quality. The star of the show, however, was the soup. It is served with small pieces of the most divine homemade bread and the soup was just so good, I didn't want it to end!
In my opinion, the staff could have been a bit more attentive, but in their defence it was busy, and serving in these times can be stressful so I won't be too harsh. I look forward to coming back and trying some other items from the menu, and I'll have to bring some friends along cause the photo I posted garnered a lot of attention (and jealousy!).
k. y.
Lovely cafe with great coffee and pastries, also very welcoming, friendly, and cheerful staff. I had an excellent breakfast and will definitely return:)
S. P.
Best sandwiches in London, for my money, especially the vegetarian options. All made fresh to order and on their own bread. I need to pop by here on the weekend to check out their breakfast offerings.
N. K.
I joined a baking workshop today and am really content with everything. I was quite concerned due to Covid but everyone was wearing masks properly and followed the rules strictly throughout the workshop.
I can tell Tomek is a very organised, agile, and tidy baker and that was inspirational too while learning today (my own preference lol).
Workshop itself was very useful and fun. We made sourdough, 100% rye, focaccia and soda bread. Not only hands on baking skills but Tomek also explained us some fundamental knowledge about ingredients and baking including his own tips.
I just tried what I baked today and it tastes amazing :D I am so glad that I joined this workshop!
K. W.
The sourdough is unreal, definitely worth the £4! Nice pastries and sandwiches too, although £6.50 for a bacon sandwich hurts
E.
Happy to pay 8.50 for an egg and bacon sandwich, but it better be pretty good. I'd even settle for ok. But the raved about foccacia that it was served on was either over-baked, or a touch stale. The upper crust was a hard brown shell that was tough to chew through.
The roasted grapes and goats cheese served on toasted sour dough was much better, but again, for over 8 pounds it makes you wonder what you're paying for.
Menu is really limited. There was just the one sandwich to choose - perhaps they sold out of the other one. And I'd say 4 plate options.
Must be just this cranky ol soul however, as the place was full up at 12 PM on a Saturday with uniform diners. Id wager all under 30s happy to dole out the dosh for a spot of atmosphere.
Personally as I was still unsatisfied, I visited the McDonalds down the block to fill me up on the way home.
M.
Incredible! A must for any pastry fan. The sandwiches and coffee are great too.
J. K.
Delicious sourdough! I had the house sourdough with jam & peanut butter. Great little outdoor area. The staff are all really friendly too!
M. G.
Nice vibe place. The location can trick you, you need to walk till the end of the road. This place provide:
- bakery (white, rye, wholemeal bread, crossaint and other pastry)
- restaurant, I suppose is more for a quick bite
- bakery classes
price are standard for the type of bread they do, for instance they have 4£ = 800g bread, they have also other bread weights.
A. G.
Lovely pastries and breads. The coffee was ok, and that bacon sandwich could be a bit cheaper for two pieces of bread and an “ok” portion of bacon. Staff was not in the best mood , hygiene not at it’s best as well.
b. m.
Best bakery café in London ? Dalston absolutely . super tasty !! great indoor/ outdoor area . Free very fast Wi-Fi. 140mbps excellent food , drunks and at very good prices for the real quality and TLC . super staff! Everything is much better than at poncy no Wi-Fi pricey slow Allpress Dalston! :-))
J. E.
Amazing pastries and bread every time. The morning buns are an absolute winner! Even in the afternoon.
Large outdoor seating area and places to lock bikes too.
Filter coffee was tasty.
J. J. A. K. K.
Absolutely love this place. Their breads are yummy and their breakfast and lunch menu always delicious. Great ambiance and staff. One of fav stops and a highlight for my first trip to London. Love from 🇵🇬
T. B.
Best bakery! best choice of sarnies, best bread, best foccacia, best pastries. And what’s important - super friendly people
M. M.
Fab bakery hidden off the Kingsland road. Delicious pastries, coffee and lunch offerings which vary from bacon sarnies to amazing salads and sambos. Definitely try their potato sourdough and morning buns! Since the pandemic they have also started a pastry milk float which travels around to various north easy london postcodes check their insta for more deets!
A. N.
Amazing spot. Coffee is top notch and the sandwiches are oversized and packed with delicious ingredients. Be sure to get there before they run out (sandwiches from 12-3) as the favourites go first. You've also got a choice of 3 different places to sit: inside where all the action happens, in the next sealed off vestibule/room or outside in the community garden (which is lovely if the weather permits.)
K. A.
I had iced coffee which was very, very good and I liked the taste and the creaminess of the oat milk.
But the sticky bun was disappointing... Dry, flavourless with tons of raisins in the middle. Didn't finish it. Maybe I choose the wrong thing to eat.
Staff is kinda uninterested. And you can only pay with your card. So if you are a tourist, make sure your card is accepted in the UK. I've had unpleasant experiences with this new "only by card!" movement before...
The location itself is very nice! If you are in the area, check it out, but traveling there just for the bakery isn't really worth it...
(Answer to the owner’s response as I haven’t found any other way: I’ve been there on the 3rd of July around 11.30am. I started to look for change in my wallet and wanted to give it to the employee.. The employee (I don’t know her name) placed the card machine in front of me without saying a word. That to me means that I can pay only with my card. She didn’t say anything else so I guess it was a misunderstanding. There are lots of places where you can only pay by card so I guessed it’s one of them. Regarding the food: as you can see on the picture i only had the bun which was dry. I can’t rate all the other stuff you have unfortunately. Thanks for the response!)
V. d. C.
Amazing bakery! I definitely recommend coming here for breakfast or lunch, or just to buy some of their wonderful sourdough.
K. M. L.
Croissant based pastry so delicious. Wonderful service. Definitely returning soon
C. P.
Pizza night 🍕. Pizza was great but the pudding was a bit disappointing. Service is super smiley and nice though! Will come back!! 😄
S. A.
Amazing eggy-foccacia! But super impressed with the coffee, pastry and sourdough loaf. Queuing worthwhile 👌🏽
S. H.
Picked up a delicious beetroot sandwich and pastry for lunch. Friendly service as well. Now my first choice spot in Dalston as long as they haven't run out for the day!
L. G.
Beautiful sourdough bread. Some of the best I have had. They also do coffees sandwiches and an assortment of pastries and other bread. It is quite pricey, but not more so than some of the hipster cafes (4 quid for sourdough, about 3 for coffee etc.) Plus they gotta cover rent for Dalston prices. Lovely courtyard to sit and drink in too (once it reopens outside lockdown)
R. L.
Went there for the croissant bakery course. Their croissants are lovely although I personally think the pain au chocolat is the real show stopper there.
Friendly staff, great atmosphere and delectable coffee.
L. G.
The potato sourdough is the best sourdough I've ever had, whilst the foccacia is a crispy, salty baked piece of heaven.
L.
Banging Sandwiches, sound staff but the bathroom has the smelliest diffuser. That clashing with the delicious sandwiches is not the one.
c. f.
Amazing food and great service by all the staff. Had a such great time. Was given a little treat on the house for my birthday. THANK GUYS FOR SUCH A GREAT EVENING!!
H. L.
Lovely hidden bakery and cafe. All the food is very tasty, especially pictured, yummmmm. A must!
J. C.
Dusty Knuckle team are responding brilliantly to the crisis - setup so all customers can queue safely outside. Also offering extras like eggs and milk from small suppliers, alongside their usual fantastic bread.
They say they’re working on home delivery - keep your eyes out on their insta for details - but support your local (and safe) business while you can!
A. M.
Best sourdough bread, best cinnamon roll in town but above all… best focaccia sandwiches! Worth a trip just for them. Highly recommend!
S. M.
The potato sourdough is a must! Our household is well and truly hooked on this incredible loaf. Perfect crunch, chewiness and taste ❤️
O. D.
Best place in dalston for bread or breakfast on the weekend. They also recently added salads to their menu. All their pastries (especially their sticky buns and apple turnovers) are delicious.
Dont miss it if you are around
Y. C.
Nice croissant, pain au chocolade, cinnamon roll, feta cheese & Honey swirl...😋😋😋
A. K.
To be quite frank, their potato sourdough is the best bread I’ve ever had in my life. Pastries are out out of this world. Worth the hype, worth the queue, worth every penny. One of those really special beloved little local spots that really just cares about giving the people amazing food!
A. J.
Wonderful community bakery and cafe with tasty pastries, sandwiches and coffee with bread to takeaway.
Only issue is price. At £3.12 a Cappuccino it’s the most expensive coffee I’ve had.
M. S.
Amazing place, pastries are super fresh and delicious. The egg chili cheese sandwich it’s amazing. Friendly service! Would recommend
R. S.
Great coffee, great bakes, loads of outdoor seating
A. M. C.
Best sandwiches in London, the potato sourdough also to die for
T. A.
If it was a tiny bit cheaper it would be an easy five stars, but it’s surprisingly fast how are you much your pastries will back up in price, easy to spend more than £10 on a couple of croissants.
j. g.
Best boulangerie I ever tried in my life.... and I am French ! The vieinoiseries are all delicious, my favourite is the orange and poppy seed roll that I need every week-end ! This place is so crazy good that I feel like I will never feel satisfied anymore with other bakery places. Thanks for the hard work and making my week-ends start with a WOWWW!
E. T.
Friendly, relaxes and with outdoor and indoor seating. Amazing quality bread and awesome sandwiches. Also do coffee and great fresh juice.
G.
Best bakery in town. Top quality. Efficient service. Highly recommended.
N.
Dusty knuckle is so good! Pick randomly and enjoy! Quench yourself with a 40ft brew before/during/after!
G. M.
Good place but the sandwich lacked flavor balance: it was mostly doughy and oily (which isn’t bad but it would have been ten times better with some sweet/sour/spicy notes added)
T. S.
Amazing. Well worth walking there 30 minutes each way twice a week. Everything I've had has been down right stupendous. Seriously it's really fracking good.
FYI Sunflower loaf is probably the best bread ever made. Great fresh with warm buttwr, but better yet for a BLT or deli meat sandwich.
R. C.
Good place for a simple breakfast. There's some inside seating but in good weather it's nice to be able to sit outside.
There's an excellent selection of breads to takeaway.
M. W.
Amazing food and coffee! Well worth the wait in line
O. K.
Freshly baked breads and pastries, Ozone coffee and a bustling but warm fit-out - recommend.
K. R.
Small bakery in a car park in Dalton. They are not currently doing sandwiches or food due to the lockdown. Only bread and pastries. The potato sourdough was really good as was the sausage roll. Definitely go here if you are in the area
A. M.
Best hidden gem in London for its amazing sourdoughs, coffees, pastries and sandwiches! Well worth a trip from anywhere in London. Their pizza nights are a winner and the best combo from their neighbour selling craft beer at the 40ft! Great service & their staff are always upbeat!
J. M.
My absolute favourite bakery in London... Their Potato Sourdough is delicious and their pastries kept us going through lockdown. The 'Morning Bun' with its cinnamon sugary dusting is a real winner along with their sausage rolls. In normal times their sandwiches and brunch menu is always on point too. Thanks for keeping all the baked goods coming over the last 14 weeks - my little trips every couple of days to you guys kept me smiling!
M. H.
The best bread in London. Absolutely my first choice! They generously donated to an event for a charity we organised and didn’t ask for any credit. Lovely food, lovely folks.
G. F.
Dusty Knuckle is my favourite bakery in London, simple as that. Try the super squishy and delicious white potatoe sour loaf, absolutely amazing. Their plain croissants are my favourite pastry but they have loads more. The sandwiches also taste divine. Staff are really friendly, and also, crucially very efficient when the queue forms at 9am in the weekend! Keep it up guys, you are doing an amazing job!!
P. H.
Went the vego option and was not disappointed. Super crusty and fluffy roll loaded with all the good stuff. Fried shallots were a winner!
P. V. L.
I go here weekly, super busy on the weekends but the bread is the best in dalston for sure
n. C.
Incredible sandwiches and bread to eat in and take away. Consistently good coffee and great variety of drinks sold. Quality ingredients and made with so much care (I think the almonds in my courgette sandwich were fresh and activated?). Super friendly staff, wonderful indie local business to support. My fave recommendations are: any of the veggie sandwiches (menu changes daily), house sourdough, almond croissants, mackerel salad and egg breakfast bap. I would travel here even if I wasn’t local. It’s that good.
I. M.
Staying in the area, coming from SW London and was keen to try the much hyped DK! I was a little sceptical after some recent not-so-positive reviews on here but no need. The house sourdough was excellent, as was a selection of the croissants and pastries. Personal favourite was the Orange and Poppyseed. Yummy coffee and service with a smile. Top notch stuff.
j. e. (.
When a friend brought a loaf of Dusty Knuckle sourdough round and told me that it had been made by ex-offenders at a social enterprise bakery, I rolled my cynical eyes so hard I thought they might pop out. One taste of the bread knocked the cynicism right out of me.
Honestly, everything I've bought from there has been great - the sourdoughs (the potato sourdough is my favourite), the hot cross buns and the morning buns are all brilliant. And yes, you are doing some good when you buy them. Worth searching out, queuing up for, ordering online and savouring.
T. H.
If you need some more bun in your life why don't you stop off at the Dusty Knuckle? Outside seating available, as well as a range of buns and pastries. Some of the buns are giant and some are more reasonably sized. They also do nano-coffees which is weird considering the scale of the buns. You can also get nice trendy bread and sandwiches and things like that. You might have to queue if you go at an obvious time but that's not their fault, it's a London fing innit.
f. s.
Sad and happy at the same time to see this amazing business thriving - sad because it’s become soooo busy at all times, happy because these guys seriously deserve all the success! All baked goods are incredible, from the different sourdough breads to the pastry creations, with a special mention to the brioche which is out of this world. Their breakfast offer is phenomenal, with rotating dishes that are always interesting and very filling. Great coffee too. The location is very simple, as the tables are arranged in a yard. As I said it can get incredibly busy so perhaps not the most relaxed atmosphere. But the quality is stellar!
H.
Fantastic bread. The focaccia was perfect, and the breakfast sandwich had beautifully balanced flavors . Get there early if you want the option to try anything on the menu
K.
Best sourdough bread in all of London, hands down! 🥖🍞 Also fantastic coffee! Love this place!
T. M.
Just stopped by on Saturday morning. Place was packed. Busy atmosphere and nice seating outside.
H. D.
Excellent place, very good sour dough bread.
S. K.
Extremely well crafted breads and pastries, great dishes and well made coffees to boot. Their croissant has gone into my all time top five, their cinnamon sugar morning bun into my top two. Rustic setting off the main road adds to the atmosphere. A new favourite.
S.
Grown from a van selling breads in a backyard into a year-round mini-restaurant and bakery. There's lots of outdoor seating for the pleasant days. Amazing sourdough breads and buns to buy from the shop or stay and eat in. Their fried egg & chilli on sourdough never disappoints. Sardines with potatoes was delicious too. Portions aren't big so you may want more than one dish. The menu changes from time to time. Good fresh coffee too!
M. A.
My favourite bakery in London - super friendly staff and the best bread & pain au chocolat in London. Can't wait to do the bread making workshop once th classes resume :-)
B. R.
The sourdough at the Dusty Knuckle is the best hands down- and the food scrumptious, I’m a regular since the old days. But I want to say it’s upsetting that they have a new policy of “not slicing your bread loaf on the weekends”. I get that they’re busy, but running the bread through the industrial slicer takes literally six seconds, a lot less than placing a food order, and it is such a bonus service that makes this place a little bit extra special. They don’t want to- fair enough- but I think it’s a mistake.
N. G.
Love their bread and bakes! A perfect spot for coffee and breakfast, or a nice sandwich lunch.
Try their breakfast buns - delightful cinnamon goodness that are made for dipping in your coffee or tea.
Take home their potato sourdough for yummy sandwiches or toast. It's so good that shops around the area fight to get their hands on it too.
M. S.
By far the best breakfast I've had in London. Fresh bread/foccacia with still warm bacon, egg and cheese, topped with cilantro(?). Just amazing. The coffee was excellent, surprisingly so for being filter. Will come back next time I'm around.
L. W.
Hands (or knuckles) down, the best bread in London
H. H.
The best coffee, bread and pastries in Dalston (well... London really!!) definitely a must if you're in the area... the warmth and welcome from the team is always amazing.
T. L. R.
Easy going, friendly staff serving fresh and delicious food 💥
C. M.
Brilliant cakes and coffee, lovely staff
k. j.
AMAZING BREAD LITERALLY ONE OF MY FAVOURITES IN ALL OF LONDON. Problem is, coffee might be one of the worst I've had in London but definitely go for the bread you won't be disappointed, plus reasonable prices. Just get coffee nearby like cafe oto :)
F. R.
5 stars aren't even enough to rate this place. Very good coffee, outstanding pastries, sandwiches and bread and great great staff. The pizza nights are also amazing.
J. R.
Best sourdough bread in London, if not the World! The lunchtime food is fantastic (with the added bonus of free extra bread) and staff are always super friendly.
R. H. E.
Best bread in town and the sandwiches are to DIE for
K. G.
Still my top favourite bakery after being a customer both by visiting the shop and online delivery. All items delivered are always freshly baked and tasteful.
Having in mind that the current situation with covid is complicated, yet I wish they had available more sweet or savory pastry options or change the items offered regularly.
One more thing worth mentioning is that they have partnered with quality product suppliers such as Fenton farm eggs (love their eggs), 40FT microbrewery, Cann mill (I made a 100% wholemeal homemade sourdough bread and it came out great), etc..
By the way, so happy that they have a plastic free packaging for deliveries.
At last but not least their team is fast on responding to queries.
Hope this covid situation ends soon, so we can visit the shop again as normal. Stay safe and keep up the good job!
H. v. d. D.
We love the dusty knuckle for the excellent bread and great dalston hipster outside atmosphere. If you want the sandwiches, make sure to be on time as they do run out.
M. O.
The sandwiches here are incredible. You really can't beat them. I've never had some of the flavour combinations I've experienced here and the quality is exceptional. They've really grown into the new location which is great. The breakfast rolls are a staple in my house. However, it continues to let itself down by not letting people know what the daily options are. A simple Instagram shot of the board before opening would be a huge help - and an obviously powerful marketing tool. Because of this I tend not to go down after 1:30 at the risk of ending up with a lamb sandwich being the only remaining option (which seems to happen a lot).
H. P.
Great bakery, lovely pastries, but unfortunately I have real hygiene issues with this place. Everyone else seems to love it though so I guess it's just not for me. Glasses don't look great, I had a hair in my toastie and the outdoor toilets are so grimy.
T. S.
I like their bread and have come to Highbury Fields on a wet Friday to buy some from their bread float. 12.30pm they say. It’s now 12.40, pissing it down and no sign of a bread float. Small gathering of disappointed hopefuls. Can’t stand it when people leave you standing around in the rain when they give you a time to meet them. Not cool
S. A.
Travelled all the way from a completely different part of London. Was skeptical due to the weird location and appearance of the place BUT THE BREAD was phenomenal! Got the sour and the seeded ones. Definitely worth the trip for me and will be going back soon.
J. L.
The only thing better than their name is their cinnamon bun. Delicious bakery serving the local area that includes a rustic cafe area if you're coming in off of the street with both indoor and outdoor spots. If you like funky and eclectic - the opposite of big chain coffee - this is your new home.
T. C.
Aaaaamazing bakery, visit immediately. I come here far too often now for my bread and frequent breakfast treats. THE best pain au chocolat, unreasonable chocolate brioche and sticky buns like no other. Lunchtime is as much a delight with proper sausage rolls, sandwiches and the hotly anticipated tart-of-the-day.
Excellent coffee also available.
D. H.
Best sandwiches in London, hands down! Discovered Dusty Knuckle about 6 months ago and haven't looked back, the sandwiches and service are excellent along with a really nice outside area to eat in the summer! I'd definitely put this in my 'London's best kept secrets' list.
T. L.
I've been going to dusty knuckle quite a lot for the past months for bread and pastries which are amazing, apple pastrie and morning bum are the BEST! but my unfortunately I've been served by the old lady a couple of times and it's quite disappointing.. she has no idea how to treat people, always in a rush, always being rude and with no manners, I honestly don't understand how's she still working there. The other staff are very friendly but sometimes far too relaxed, need to give a shout to the girl who wears glasses, dont know how she manage to keeping smiling and working well after the unbelievable queues on weekends. This bakery is amazing, you just gonna need luck to be served by the right person.
A. D.
The potato sourdough is my fave, but I also like getting a bag of foccaccia offcuts and munching through them. Everything here is great.
A. C.
Love this place. Its small but cosy has a good lively atmosphere. Team are super efficient and friendly. Coffee is good as was the chilli egg sandwich I had. But the sausage roll and homemade mustard is just to die for!
c. d.
Why is the bread always burnt? I keep hoping it’s a one off as it’s obviously tasty but so disappointed that they are consistently burnt. I chose the least burnt one and as you see it’s still quite dark
M. O.
Just to balance out the other reviews a little. For one it would be nice if cashiers didn't handle the food with their bare hands.
Personal ratings:
Rye - 4/5, e.g. Ole & Steen does it better (with a big selection as a bonus).
Potato sourdough: 4/5 but might be the best thing there. I used to buy a much better one in Antonin bakery in Prague (for third of the price).
White sourdough - 3/5, it tastes like the one I used to make from no-knead dough. Pavilion bakery does it much better I think, flavourful bread with thinner crust (they stock tasty eggs too). Fabrique also has nicer sourdoughs.
Brioche loaf - 0/5, not ok, don't buy cardboard for £5. You'll do much better with Tescos's overly sweet brioche (2/5) or M&S/Waitrose brioche rolls (4/5).
Morning buns / croissants - 5/5 not too sweet, get them fresh, my family liked them.
Overall this cafe/bakery is amazing if your frame of reference is the UK. Keep up the good work.
I. T.
Well hello to this little hidden gem 💎 Take a right down an ominous back alley next to McDonald’s and you’ll be led to this Brooklyn-esq hipster hangout. Artisan sourdough Bread and fresh local produce is the order of the day. Sure it gets super-busy and the speed could be improved, but the food is worth the wait and the bread is some of the best I’ve had in London. Get a sunny day and sit in the courtyard with an iced coffee and delicious jam-packed ciabatta sandwich and you’ll be laughing 😆
L. P.
Amazing food, great ordering service. Hard to find but nestled out the way of the busy high street. Lovely place to meet a friend for brunch/lunch & a coffee
A. D.
Really excellent!! But I am pretty sure I got charged the eat in tariff.
E. C.
The pork meatball sandwich was amazing, a nice kick from the sauce and the lovely focaccia bread really takes it to the next level!
R. R.
The Dusty Knuckle is the best bakery in London. It's bread is in a whole other class and something like their focaccia is a meal in itself. Aside from the loves the sticky buns are amazing and the sandwiches are a lunchtime treat.
Get there early though as the stock goes fast, particularly on a Friday.
R. J.
I was having a drink at the dalston rooftop, then as I was walking by the alley, I smell a bakery. We walk to the back and the guys at dusty knuckle had just finished baking loads of bread for their hotel clients. They were not open for service but I couldn't help but negotiate to take a fresh warm loaf of bread. After some hustling, they agreed to give me one and didn't even have to pay. Since then I go there every weekend to get my bread! Yum.
G. H.
Fantastic bread and pastries with friendly service
a. r. p.
Great bread, but I was a bit disappointed because the girl at the till didn't want to slice my bread as "they don't do that because it is too busy". I found it quite strange since they have sliced my bread in the past. Staff at the till were much nicer before.
L. C.
Amazing sourdough bread but lunch/brunch dishes are swimming in butter/oil. The polenta today was inedible and this has been my experience on other occasions also. There are other ways to flavour food! Algreasenegates the fact
R. P.
Decent if rather expensive cafe. Came here for the peperonata and bean stew with salsa verde, which tasted nice. But it came in a small soup bowl that was definitely not worth the £9. Unlimited bread was free though. The small flat white was good, but with 20% added for drinking in, the price went from £2.60 to £3.12. So much for saving the planet by avoiding single use cups. There are definitely better cafes nearby, such as AllPress and E5 who provide a superior experience without charging you over the odds.
A. M.
This place is amazing. The bread is just perfect, the sandwiches out of this world and the sweets amazing as well. Atmosphere so friendly!
S. M.
Awesome little hipster bakery down a back alley in a car park in Dalston. Has the most incredible bread and offers a small selection of revolving sandwiches, pastries, coffee and fresh drinks. A real winner.
J. C.
A very delicious spot. Their focaccia bread and sandwiches are incredible. This is a very special place.
T. S.
Great bread and pastries, coffee not great. It can sometimes feel quite disorganised compared to other similar places
S. J.
I almost don't want to write this review because this is like one of those secret jems, hiddden away and only those who've been told via a friend where it is and what it is get to experiance the best sandwich in Dalston, and I'd go as far as one of my favourite sandwich makers of all time! Dusty Knuckle is predominately a bakery but they do breakfast and lunch and tasty sweet snacks. We worth a visit if you can find it! Nice work team Knuckle you deserve all the success to get.
É. L.
Excellent bread and sandwiches, cute yard. Great for a date :) But be prepared to wait in line for a long time - unless you order online!
P. H.
Great place for some breakfast. Their bread is amazing and so are the cakes. Can be a little tricky getting a seat but it is worth it!
H. J.
Really incredible bread to take home, and delicious food to eat in with a nice atmosphere. I recommend the white potato sourdough ... or the pig's head toastie special if they have it.
M. C.
Absolutely lovely sourdough. A little bit overpriced, but you pay for a good quality and a nice garden
M. B.
Best bread in all of London
M. P.
The Dusty Knuckle has the best bread, pastries, sandwiches & staff in the whole of London. Watching it grow from a container in the yard to the amazing cafe & school it is today has been a treat 💗💗💗
J. W.
Great bakery, fantastic bread and delicious pain au chocolate! Hidden little gem behind Dalston a high steer whet tou can relax in the rustic courtyard. Beautiful hidden gem!
A. S.
My lunch time favourite. There is a daily menu of fresh sandwiches plus soup and salad. Yummy veg and meat option. Also sells bread to take home, of course!
S.
Ok so the food is great that’s for sure, but unfortunately those guys open about 20 minutes late every day... they probably don’t care because people are coming in numbers anyway but for me this is incredibly irritating. Would have been a 5 star otherwise.
I. R.
Best brunch food I’ve had in London for long time!
Such a lovely atmosphere and beautiful flavours all over the place.
D. H.
Great little bakery and coffee place hidden around a corner. Recommend the cinnamon rolls and the sourdough!
N. C.
The most delicious sourdough I’ve tasted...!!!!!! Plus the food is delicious too.
M. k.
One of the best coffee shops in London
M. J.
Very stylish and positive venue. Open seating, plenty of space to explore and cool to be able to see into the food preparation and baking area. Also has great coffee
B. C.
I've been living in Dalston for over a year and only discovered this place today. The best places are hard to find. Just enjoyed a delicious egg and bacon sandwich and coffee. The staff are very friendly.
V. A.
Best cinnamon buns ever!
G. d. V.
Really nice! I heard about the place and went last minute when they were closing. I got the last apple pastry... delicious!!! I can not wait to come back and try more things.
A. R. M.
One of the best sourdough bakers in London. Get their sandwiches early. They close at three and are sold out well before then.
M. J. C.
Absolutely terrific bakery which became our East London go-to. Luke making the coffee is amazing, satisfying even these fussy coffee lovers. Can’t wait to return.
I. M.
This little gem of a hidden bakery will blow your mouth away with their baked stuff... and the coffee brew! Wow!
P. S.
Great little used to stop in for lunch. Every changing menu of daily sandwiches for £5. They are chock full of ingredients and the bread is delicious!
J. W.
Coffee is great, and the bakery even better - great spot next to 40FT Brewing to boot!
T. L.
Simply one of London’s best bakeries. The feta and honey swirl 🤤
L. M.
Staff are so nice! Their sugar strand donuts are delicious! ❤️
B. G.
The mammoth sized and super-tasty focaccia sandwich is a must. Uber-cool setting, lush coffee and service with a smile. The dream.
d. m.
Lovely bread and croissants. More reasonably (relative) priced than some other local bakeries.
S. K.
Now open for brunch on Sundays!!! 9am-4pm. The porchetta mojo green sauce with fried egg over buttered toasted sourdough toast, and borlotti beans and farro soup...sooo goooood.
D. T.
As 3d gen Baker, I am very happy finding bakeries working the proper way. The bread and the croissant I tried were excellent.
C. D.
Yessss
J. S.
Had a tongue sandwich, was absolutely delicious but too juicy to be contained by the brioche bun. Good spot to sit if it's nice out.
K. M.
Amazing food! Bread is deliciousssss. Coffee great. Highly recommend. Busy understandably because it’s great.
宜.
Really tasty pastry and brunch.
Enjoyable meal but really busy on wkd.
But after all the pastry is worth the time.
E. D.
Best sandwiches, best outside seating area, best vibes. Good line/Covid mgmt too.
L. L.
This is an unsuspected hidden oasis where you wouldn't normally dare to tread. I understand they started life in a shipping container trying to do something for the locals. Whatever the negative effects of gentrification on communities, when you see this setting you'll probably agree that, in this case, it is nothing but positive.
D. P.
Best bread. Loved the sandwich with eggs, bacon, coriander, chilli and coriander! Coffee was exceptional. Highlight.
A. L.
Amazing authentic East London bakery. Ample space indoor and outdoor along with a community garden. Must visit if you're in the area.
J. D.
Too cold in there at ths time of year. Egg sandwich still delicious, I just ate too quick as I was keen to get out and go somewhere warm!
J. A.
Blown away by the morning buns & potato sourdough
P. J.
Potatoe sourdough bread is a must. Oh, and the focaccia bread sando's are always a good choice.
L. W.
Incredible bread and interesting pastries. The egg chilli cheese breakfast bap is 🤤
N. H.
Phenomenal bread in fairly central London. It’s slightly off the beaten path, turn right at McDonald’s (if you are walking away from the city), down the ally way, all the way down. Can’t miss it.
P. S.
Awesome food and coffee. Super busy on weekends
O. H.
The best bakery in east London. Quality, Unassuming and well-priced. Keep up the amazing work!
M. B.
A very fine bakery, tucked away behind the main road. Excellent products to eat in or take away although a little pricey
B. V.
It’s an unbelievable bakery. I think they’re struggling with their success though as they’ve outgrown the space. When queues form on weekends it becomes unbelievably crowded in a small space.
M. S.
If you feel like getting in a time machine to experience the cost of a sandwich in the year 2050, then check out Dusty Knuckle.
The price hikes are out of this world!
J. O.

(Translated) A bakery famous for pastries and sandwiches. Morning buns are popular for breakfast, sandwiches for lunch, and pizza for weekend dinners. On Mondays, only pastries and bread are sold. Although the quantity is small, the coffee is really good and the Feta & Honey swirl pastry is recommended.
Tried their breakfast pastries and lunch sandwiches. Feta & Honey swirl was my favorite and their coffee is right on point. I have to go back to try their pizza on weekend evenings. Note that they only offer pastries on Mondays. Beware there's likely to be a queue on weekends.

(Translated) Bakery well hidden in the back of a car park. Do not be surprised when you arrive by the driveway to see only garbage cans and containers! But you will be very quickly reassured because you will meet in all directions these bikes that deliver at home, his families who come to sit among the plants (also in jars of recovery). Excellent TV, very nice big cool. If you are Hackney a place not to be missed.
