Picked up 4 cup cakes and a glazed brownie on 04/12. The chocolate cup cake and red velvet cup cake both tasted lush. The salted caramel and one with chocolate sprinkles along with the brownie tasted a bit dry and not too fresh. It’s a tiny shop, staff are pretty friendly. Clearly says outside that not more than 2 are allowed at one time. Me and hubby were selecting cakes with one woman behind us. All of us were wearing masks. Suddenly 3 non-mask wearing women barged into the tiny store as well with ZERO respect for the rules and zero ‘civic’ sense. Had to quickly leave without getting a chance to select more. ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED.

The BEST RED VELVET EVER. I have tried so many red velvet and honestly nothing beats Hummingbird’s one.
D.
Turned up at opening time and bagged myself the only 8inch red velvet cake they had. It pays to take a chance and see what they have on the day. Take note though, no telephone number for them at all so don't call the numbers that googles searches have, it will only lead to distress for a sweet lady who works from home 😊

I usually get a cake from here afew times for the year. Thinking to try something new I order the lemon raspberry cake, however I was really disappointed. The cake had a lovely taste and was very pretty looking but the middle wasn't cooked properly.... so sad to say, I may have to think twice if ordering from here again.

Super! Just went into the new hummingbird cafe and it’s lovely! The staff are super friendly and happy, you don’t feel like you are being rushed. Thank you so much 🧁 the cupcakes are the best!!!!
K. H.
Absolutely fantastic service. Me and my family have been baking from the hummingbird cook book for years and always wanted to visit! It did not disappoint. Amazing display of cakes and were even generously given a load of free gifts to takeaway. So kind! Made our day! X

We loved coming here because we've been working our way through the cookbook during lockdown. We were disappointed that there wasn't a wide variety of cakes to choose from, however the quality was everything we expected and the cakes are absolutely delicious.

Extremely happy. Very impressed with the service. I arrived and bought a rainbow cake for a birthday party. They wrote my aunts name on top and packaged the cake every well for transport. While they were doing that I enjoyed a coffee and a slice
The rainbow cake had the perfect balance of sponge, frosting etc. Very moist and not so sweet. Will return.

Amazingly easy service. Friendly, efficient staff. This was my first visit to this store as I usually visit the Portobello Road bakery. The cake met with my expectations. You can't go wrong with this bakery. Its one of the best. Well worth a visit.
P. B.
Never disappoints! Their red velvet cake is an all time favourite. However, it's purely a takeaway place that I didn't quite expect.

Came to this lovely little bakery for heir amazing cakes (anything with the cream cheese frosting is to die for). The variety is good, and they offer gluten free options - i'm nnot sure if there is a fully vegan option though. I was very happy with the service as well. The staff happily obliged to my preferences of which cupcakes went in which boxes. Oh,and they also sell last minute candles for £2. Quick and easy payment was made and i left with a smile on my face.
There are some seats in the shop but not many as it is quite cosy inside.
A. L.
Good coffee and excellent Carrot Cake.At £4.50 a slice, not cheap but more than enough for two to share with a coffee on their small terrace.
J. M.
Collected my pre-ordered birthday cake this afternoon and purchased some cupcakes to eat on the way home! Staff were absolutely delightful. Very warm and welcoming despite us being separated by Covid proof glass and wearing masks! The two girls that were in the store were chatty and gave me excellent customer service. The birthday cake (rainbow cake) looks delicious (will eat tomorrow!) and the cupcake I had on my way home (black bottom) was exceptional. Loads of icing, really moist and just delicious. I will be back, thank you Hummingbird Bakery for a wonderful experience! X
Е. М.
Greate cosy place to have coffee and some desserts! Very friendly staff, beautiful and delicious cakes.
J. D.
Amazing cupcakes and cakes! The staff were very friendly and super helpful, directing me to the black bottom cupcakes which is my new favourite! Thank you for brightening my day with your smile and warmth!
J. B.
Sit down still closed, cakes great but not a large selection unless you want red velvet.. original, vegan or gluten free, sadly not my favourite. Nicely packed so great for a small gift ☺️
T. H.
A great place for a laid back morning! I had coffee and ordered variety of cupcakes, I love the nutella cupcake and red velvet. I saw the cakes and they look very promising, i'll make sure to buy one another time. Highly recommend!
C. I. U.
I have ordered red velvet and chocolate caramel cake. They were too sweet, that hurt my throat. Be careful, if you don’t like too sweet you may not like them.
A. D.
Best cupcakes in London and probably the country. You have to go try it even in London otherwise you just missing out.
S. R.
My favourite bakery ever... Those cakes are heavenly, I've never had one I didn't love, I have my favourites and would live entirely on them if I could do so without gaining weight. Their cakes are so good that we went there for our wedding reception, yes they are that good.
B. H.
They do a great coffee here. Don't come here if you're on a diet, you will FAIL! The cake is to die for. Don't let your children have the cake unless you plan to make them jog behind the car on the way home(!); so much sugar, chocolate, hundreds and thousands, and other gorgeous things!
D. L.
We visited the Bakery on Saturday, 15 February and are in two minds about the experience. The cakes and cupcakes looked amazing and the staff are really friendly. However, we found the cakes rather dry and wish we had decided on cupcakes instead. We tasted Lemon Raspberry and Red Velvet. The slices are much too big. We would strongly recommend to lower the prices for the cake slices and make the slices smaller. This way more cake might get sold and would not sit as long under the cake coverings.

The best Red Velvet Cake known to mankind!!!!
They have recently started a vegan range of cakes which are just as satisfying! No loss in taste or texture by dropping out the dairy products either!
I do worry about how much sugar, color and preservatives that might be used in the cakes... However, cake is cake.. if your trying to be healthy eat a carrot ! Not a fan of the rainbow cake but my Son loves the colors and treat! Slices of the Red velvet cake are huge and fair priced for the endorphin release it offers with a large black coffee!! You have never eaten Red velvet until you have tried the hummingbird red velvet cake :) perfect cheat day treat!
T. D.
Cake slices are generous, but cupcakes are unsubstantial for the price and also decorated in a slightly amateur fashion. I have seen much better at childrens’ birthdays. On the plus, the flavours are innovative and the quality from visit consistent. I am a returning customer, and do understand the cost difficulties in this location, though improvement in artistry does not add to the ingredient bill.
C. S.
Absolutely delicious cupcakes and brownies with very nice coffee. This little bakery is very welcoming and the staff are lovely. There is not much seating as it is so small so it is pot luck really. If you opt for takeaway the cakes are very well wrapped in pretty boxes and easily transportable. Delicious little gem well worth a visit.
H. A.
This bakery shop is absolutely awesome and a must try if you haven’t already. I almost always go to the Notting Hill Gate for treats and my sons birthday cake. The staff in South Kensington branch are awesome. Just when I thought this bakery shop couldn’t get any better I was treated with two free velvet cakes after a toddler vomited on me. Thank you for your sympathy :) Highly recommend.
S. B.
Cute bakery and good for take away. Cupcakes and cake are the largest part of their selection. Had the carrot cake and it was good just not 5 star. The frosting was not the strong cream cheese flavor I am accustomed to in the USA. I would go again.
A. A.
My friends and I stopped in this little shop by chance during a downpour while in South Kensington. We ordered a few cupcakes and a slice of cake to take with us back to our hotel room for a midnight snack. We had stopped in a few other bakeries while visiting the UK in the 2 weeks we were there, but none could compare to this one! We made a special trip back to the Hummingbird Bakery, which was 1.5 hours away in one direction from where we were staying, the day before we left the UK just to get more cupcakes and cake before we returned home. I am very sad we don't have one in the states!
S. D.
Hummingbird claim to make the best cupcakes in London and, several years after my first one (and, ahem, trying out several other chains), I'd still say they might be right. This cafe and bakery sells all the cakes they're known for, from the huge US-style Red Velvet cupcakes (with delicious cream cheese frosting) to Black Bottoms, cheesecakes, brownies and full-size birthday cakes. You can also custom order cakes here - once, I asked them to create something in the shape of a tube roundel for a transport-fixated friend. It wasn't cheap but their charming staff matched the brief perfectly, with 24 very special cupcakes.
T. D.
Awesome Cakes. Very Very Good. I'm From the US and made it a point to visit the Bakery because it said American Style. I love London food also but I just wanted a taste from back home. I loved, loved, loved the cake there and the staff were really nice, I would definitely go back there. This is now my number one Bakery in London. I just wish there was one in the states. lol.
Love you London.
A. M.
In my opinion, there is nothing better than a cup of good coffee in the morning. I always stop by this bakery before work. I love their cake. I am impressed with the service and the friendly members of the staff. Meeting smiling people is the best way for a good start of the day. That is the reason why I like this place.
R. M.
Really delicious cupcakes, friendly staff. Really great selection of cupcakes. Always a fun theme. I’m Only knocking it one star because they don’t make the biscoff cupcakes anymore!
K. P. (.
This is where I had my first London cupcake, sitting inside their tiny cafe. I'll always remember that it had lilac flavouring and I thought it was incredibly exotic. I was also pleasantly surprised that it tasted like I image sugar heaven would taste like if you could eat the walls there. I've not been back to this location since, but it still holds a special place in my memory and I've always recommended it when friends visit!
A. H.
The best cupcakery in London! This place never fails to satisfy your sweet tooth cravings! The staff are friendly and helpful, and are happy to give you a break down of each cupcake and their personal recommendations. my recommendation is to get the black bottom cupcake! it's dark chocolate sponge with chocolate chips and a cheesecake centre with a cream cheese frosting. the cupcakes are pretty affordable too. £2.60-3.
L. W.
On my first trip here we were greeted by friendly staff who were smiling and greeted us merrily.
I had slice of red velvet cake which was absolutely huge. The cake itself was moist and delicious with a beautifully light cream cheese topping. We also had a pot of tea for two which was delicious. All round a great experience.
H. W.
Cupcakes appear to be the current 'in' thing and Hummingbird did not disappoint! I visited with a friend who is a coeliac and often struggles to find yummy cake that she can eat. She was thrilled to discover that Hummingbird Bakery have their own 'made without' range, enabling her to enjoy the same food as everyone else without being singled out. The cupcakes are beautifully packaged in individual boxes making them ideal treats or gifts.
N. S.
Brilliant service and excellent cake and cupcakes
J.
A cute little place to enjoy unique cupcakes and cakes. Especially the Red Velvet cake is worth a trip. Usually quite busy you might have to wait a bit for your treat. The little outside terrace let's you enjoy a cup of tea along with your cupcake when taking a break from strolling through South Kensington.

Best cupcakes in town. The red velvet is to die for
J. B.
If your sweet tooth is itching for a fix, head to the Hummingbird Bakery, the shop behind the delicious cupcakes known worldwide. The South Kensington spot is small, but as charming as you’d expect. My friends and I stopped by for a quick treat to enjoy as we explored the city. The staff was so knowledgeable about each flavor, and very helpful.
The Salted Caramel cupcake was spongey and chocolatey, with caramel frosting dotted with chunks of sea salt that add a nice crunch. One of my friends enjoyed a classic Vanilla cupcake, which was anything but plain. The airy cake had a great real vanilla flavor, and the buttercream was perfect- not overly sweet. Another friend chose a delectable Cookies & Cream, perfectly resembling the flavor of the crushed Oreos on top. The cupcake I enjoyed most of all was the famous Red Velvet, topped with a rich cream cheese frosting. It was so amazing that I had to get a box of six to satisfy my cravings!
H. M.
I love the Hummingbird. I had a really good red velvet cake a few times, but recently have been branching out further. I would recommend the black bottom cupcake and the frosted brownies. I even had my wedding cake made and delivered by hummingbird. Stop in for a pot of tea and a treat. I would say the water is very expensivve however.
T. B.
The famous London bakery chain is a must for anyone with a sweet tooth. Cupcakes are their speciality (I'm not a fan myself), but the brownie cheesecake was excellent. This branch is tiny - there's room for about six people to sit - and it gets very busy (queue out the door) at peak times.
c. p.
There is very little seating at the south ken branch so be prepared to stand. I actually have gone off these American style cupcakes, the mile high frosting just makes them too sickly sweet for me (you get practically as much frosting as you do cake) and I have a very sweet tooth. But if you like this kind of thing you'll probably love hummingbird
A. J.
If you haven't tried a Hummingbird cup cake you are missing out! A little bit too much frosting for me but they are a delicious treat. The South Ken branch is quite small but staff are very efficient so you are never waiting long to be served. Always have what I want in stock. There are a couple of seats both inside and out if you want to eat in.
S. A. B.
Awesome bakery. The vegan cakes here are the best and most beautiful creations - absolutely delicious.
J. B.
Went to this brunch for the first time. The cakes looked so good. I bought the red velvet cheese cake was amazing. Staff was friendly, quick service.
A. V.
The brownie and cupcakes taste good but the staff is very unprofessional once you order with one person the next person on the cash opens the box of what you ordered to check if you are actually giving her the correct information. It's a messy system and staff was not knowledgeable of what the cupcake even contains ...
K. C.
I love Hummingbird cupcakes! I used to always pop into this shop when I lived in the area, the cupcakes are delicious albeit on the expensive side, but totally worth it :D I always buy some for friends' brithdays and other celebratory events. Definitely recommend this if you have a sweet tooth!
J. T.
The Hummingbird Bakery is famous for its freshly baked and absolutely delicious cupcakes. This branch in South Kensington is small and quaint and always busy. The service is great, their baked goods are legendary and its a decadent treat that you have to try!
A. S.
Another dreamy branch of Hummingbird Bakery, this time only a stone's throw from South Kensington tube. You're welcome to sit down in the small cafe to devour your sweet treat, but it's very small. Staff are exceptionally friendly, and just make the experience of buying cake even lovelier.
S. L.
Although really tiny making it impossible to ever get a seat, it cannot be denied that the Hummingbird do absolutely amazing cupcakes. They also shut quite early so don't look for cupcakes after 6pm. You can't go wrong with a red velvet cupcake!
S. L.
I initially came here because I had made some amazing cakes from their recipe book but was disappointed to find the cakes were not as nice from the store. However, many of my friends love the cakes here.
C. L.
Unicorn dreamy rainbow layered cake plus a big cup of Americano brighten up my day the colorful sponge cake layers are very yummy rich and dense. Together with a bit of very sweet icing perfect combination!
Outer seating has good view of the marble white buildings as well relaxing street view observing busy passerbys. Interior is average as a cafe
M. F.
Lovely bakery with even more delicious treats. Red velvet whoopie pie! It's pretty good as far as whoopie pies go. They have great drink options as well for coffee fiends. The bakery is small, but comfortable with tables and chairs inside and outside cafe style. Bonus is the free wifi.
J.
Best brownies and red velvet cupcakes. Great coffee too. I've come here many times with friends and there always is room to sit even though it's small.
J. M. P.
Going in and ordering a red velvet cupcake is a sure way to bring a smile to your face. Perfect pit stop to start a great Saturday in South Kensington, or as a reward at the end of a long day showing people the museums, Harrods and the like. The coffee (Illy) is not bad either.
K. B.
Best red velvet cakes ever!!
They also have a nice selection of other cakes which are just as amazing. Staff are generally very friendly and helpful
M. L.
The things that make me happy early in the morning are black coffee and Mississippi Mud Pie from this bakery. I've always enjoyed their mouth-watering cakes and brownies. Ideal place for sugar addicted people as I am.
R. H.
Awesome cupcakes which require 2 sittings as they are rather large to eat all in one go!, Fabulous displays and flavours. Nice to have a 'home made' feel. Welcoming and friendly staff.
M. R.
Cake really isn't good enough to write home about. The icing can be too thick and is incredibly sweet. 4*s for the excellent birthday cakes on offer.
B. S.
Lovely cupcake. Yummy.
N. P.
Wish they had more seatings, bit narrow and can't really stay long. Lovely cakes and coffee. Also staff is very welcoming. A loyal customer.
O. F.
I have come here 4 times now, coffee can be a bit hit and miss here. Brownies are not the greatest. But if you manage to find a seat it is a nice place to disconnect from the busy surroundings.
E. V.
Love the place, they are warm and welcoming. Whoever complains of prices - check where you are. It’s South Kensignton, hello!
In my opinion, with service like that I don’t mind spending 20£ for 2-3 delicious cakes and good coffee for 2.
j. l.
visited hummingbird bird bakery after buying the cookbook. lovely experience. same the coffee shop isnt bigger. would say that the prices are a bit steep but would recommend a visit if you are visiting the museums nearby.
S.
I liked it here. Loved the ambience of the store. Cupcakes taste goooood.
The lady who helped me over the counter was soooo kind and lovely. Thank you.
Oh, and there’s no racist here. *great respect*
N. R.
the only thing that's good here is the red velvet, nothing else. it is unbeatable but they need more seating. only a few chairs outside when the weather is good and not much room inside. need to open a bigger better location very soon! that could change things.
S. W.
Nice cakes but its a bit overpriced and overrated. I struggled to eat my red velvet cup cake as the butter cream was way to sweet.
M. M.
Best carrot cake in town ! Coffee is good too
Staff are very friendly
Only downside is the limited seating
P. B.
Visited the South Kensington branch this evening. Very polite & helpful staff, and beautiful cakes!

The best red velvet in the world
M. M.
What a great discovery!! It has changed my life haha!! First time to taste RED VELVET cupcakes and definately won't be the last!!!
If you want to have a real treat this is the place to go..... or why not make someone else's day!!
H. R.
I loved the little cupcakes from here. Perfect spot to take a break! We got a salted caramel and chocolate one.
B. K.
Very friendly and helpful staff, fantastic cakes! It's very small with only a few seats so better for takeaway cake than eating in.
V. L.
I was not into cupcakes until I tried the red velvet cupcake from the Humming bird bakery. Despite being chocoholic, their red velvet cupcake is still my favorite!
J. C.
Great cupcakes! I can only manage one - must try the red velvet. Staff always pleasant and helpful.
A. A.
The coffee is great ! The red velvet cake is delicious. The only downside is that there are only 10 seats.
S. P.
My wife loved her red velvet birthday cake =D
H. G.
Really beautiful bakery with great colours and attractive cupcakes. Brownies are to die for and the worst thing about this bakery is the fact I can never choose!
J. N.
One slice of cake is too much for one person, I'd get a cupcake in future. They're delicious though!
L. D.
these ladies provided service with a smile..... after you try their cakes, you'll be smiling too! Their prices are competitive for their calibre.
M. A.
I ordered a carret cake there for my friend's birthday ,and it was wonderful!
L. M.
I used to go here while I studied abroad in London. I love the cupcakes and the atmosphere. The cupcakes are moist and yummy.
L. C.
My favourite place to meet friends locally for a chat. Cakes are amazing and always satisfy my sweet cravings.
Y. T.
The place is quite small so would be better to buy it for take-away. If you love tea, Hummingbird cupcake goes really well with it.
N. S.
The salted caramel cupcakes are worth dying for.
J. T.
The gluten free cake I had was simple looking but absolutely delicious. Very pleasantly surprised.
l. y.
amazing cakes and drinks lovely staff but very little seating♡♡♡
O. O.
Definitely a great design. Eye catching sweets, but no place to sit and neutral saff. Overall average experience.
D. O.
Nice , beautifulvand warm staff
G. E.
Slightly biased by the American approach to pastry, this place makes some "mammamia" cakes and cupcakes.. A bit pricey but really good quality!
A. S.
We had amazing cup cakes here after visiting the museums. Gorgeous.
S. A.
Slightly overrated and expensive. The cupcakes were a tat too sweet. Great service tho.

(Translated) Obviously I wanted to try the famous carrot cake, all choco and red velvet cupcake ... I highly recommend this last, the cream of the icing was just OMFG.
If these 3 flavors do not tempt you, or if you prefer to try something more British, they also make a huge chocolate cake, and of course, a rainbow cake. Otherwise, there are plenty of other cupcake flavors too. In short, it is an unmissable address for pastry lovers.
